6. Theoretical Proposal of Taxonomy of Ibero-American Universities from the Form of Appointment of the Rectors

Abstract

The university is faced with tensions and demands resulting from the transformations that society demands. The new public management (NGP) imposes new paradigms as far as university administration is concerned. Concomitantly, the international rankings of universities establish standards and classifications, placing the focus on access to information that should be available to interest groups. This work has been proposed as a central purpose, to describe the ways of appointing the rectors in Latin American universities, with the purpose of elaborating in theoretical terms a taxonomy that allows to differentiate and classify the universities of the region, opening the discussion on what is the most appropriate mechanism to provide the position of the highest university authority. The information used for this study was obtained from a primary source: the database of universities in Latin America; which consists of the Laws, decrees, statutes, regulations of election of authorities among others that regulate 1080 institutions of the Ibero-American region. This information establishes a taxonomy of four types that attempt to simplify and demonstrate the different forms of organization of the institutions. These allow to describe the degree of participation of the interest groups in the process of appointing the rector. The proposed taxonomy confirms the existence of dissimilar mechanisms for appointing the rector and that these are dependent on the type of ownership of the institution.

Abstract

A new multimodal biometric database, acquired in the framework of the BiosecurID project, is presented together with the description of the acquisition setup and protocol. The database includes eight unimodal biometric traits, namely: speech, iris, face (still images, videos of talking faces), handwritten signature and handwritten text (on-line dynamic signals, off-line scanned images), fingerprints (acquired with two different sensors), hand (palmprint, contour-geometry) and keystroking. The database comprises 400 subjects and presents features such as: realistic acquisition scenario, balanced gender and population distributions, availability of information about particular demographic groups (age, gender, handedness), acquisition of replay attacks for speech and keystroking, skilled forgeries for signatures, and compatibility with other existing databases. Abstract

PURPOSE We investigated whether lung ultrasound (US) performed in primary care is useful and feasible for diagnosing community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) compared with chest radiography, as most previous research has been conducted in hospital settings. METHODS We undertook a prospective observational cohort study of lung US performed in 12 primary care centers. Patients aged 5 years and older with symptoms suggesting CAP were examined with lung US (by 21 family physicians and 7 primary care pediatricians) and chest radiograph on the same day. We compared lung US findings with the radiologist's chest radiograph report as the reference standard, given that the latter is the most common imaging test performed for suspected CAP in primary care. The physicians had varied previous US experience, but all received a 5-hour lung US training program. RESULTS The study included 82 patients. Compared with chest radiography, positive lung US findings (consolidation measuring >1 cm or a focal/asymmetrical B-lines pattern) showed a sensitivity of 87.8%, a specificity of 58.5%, a positive likelihood-ratio of 2.12, and a negative likelihood-ratio of 0.21. Findings were similar regardless of the physicians' previous US training or experience. We propose a practical algorithm whereby patients having consolidation measuring greater than 1 cm or normal findings on lung US could skip chest radiography, whereas patients with a B-lines pattern without consolidation (given its low specificity) would need chest radiography to ensure appropriate management. Lung US was generally performed in 10 minutes or less. CONCLUSION Point-of-care lung US in primary care could be useful for investigating suspected CAP (avoiding chest radiography in most cases) and is likely feasible in daily practice, as short training programs appear sufficient and little time is needed to perform the scan. 40. Leadership trends in institutions of Higher Education: A bibliometric review

Abstract

This Investigation aims to analyze scientific production and thematic trends in the field of leadership in institutions of higher education. This is a documentary type review which seeks to shows how a bibliometric analysis of the Web of Science database is conducted. Information processing was carried out using the Biblioshiny and VOSviewer tools. The criterias for the searches and analysis were: The evolution in publications by areas of knowledge, countries, affiliations, authors and their collaborations, relevant journals and articles, as well as topics, with emphasis on the areas of education and management. The results suggest a considerable increase, 120% between 2017 and 2018, with an impact on related areas such as psychology and sustainability. Production is concentrated in the United States and England, however, when it comes to authors, attention needs to be paid to groups from the United Kingdom, China and Norway. In terms of themes, competencies, soft skills and well-being stand out. It is concluded that scientific production on leadership in higher education is expanding, which represents a research niche with development possibilities, whose interests in recent times have leaned towards practices necessary to guarantee success when exercising leadership., Esta investigación tiene como objetivo analizar la producción científica y tendencias temáticas en el ámbito del liderazgo en instituciones de educación superior. La revisión es de tipo documental, y realiza un análisis bibliométrico de la base de datos Web of Science. El procesamiento de la información se realizó utilizando las herramientas Biblioshiny y VOSviewer. Los criterios para la búsqueda y análisis son: Evolución en publicaciones por áreas de conocimiento, países, afiliaciones, autores y sus colaboraciones, revistas y artículos relevantes, así como también, las temáticas, con énfasis en las áreas de educación y gerencia. Los resultados sugieren un incremento considerable, 120% entre 2017 y 2018, con impacto en áreas relacionadas como psicología y sostenibilidad. La producción se concentra en Estados Unidos e Inglaterra, sin embargo, en lo que respecta a autores, se requiere poner atención a los grupos de Reino Unido, China y Noruega. En cuanto a temáticas destacan las competencias, habilidades blandas y el bienestar. Se concluye que la producción científica en liderazgo en educación superior se encuentra en expansión, lo cual representa un nicho de investigación con posibilidades de desarrollo, cuyos intereses en los últimos tiempos, se inclinan hacia prácticas necesarias para garantizar el éxito al ejercer el liderazgo.

Abstract

“Una nación es la colectividad humana que tiene voluntad de actuar como una identidad social, más allá de la familia, el clan o la ciudad natal, manifestando el deseo de conformar los pactos sociales adecuados para gobernarse” (Carrau, 2006, p.11), mientras que la música logra establecer relaciones simbólicas e incluso tiene el poder de transmitir identidad, por lo cual, puede representar una nación. En el trabajo presente se analizará la presencia de la música en publicidad, En particular, se realiza un análisis comparativo de la música de distintos anuncios publicitarios de la misma marca emitidos en diferentes países para determinar si la música de los anuncios seleccionados cambia según el país de emisión y con qué finalidad… Para llevar a cabo este análisis, se toman como muestra tres categorías de anuncios publicitarios, cada categoría de la misma marca: la primera, aquella en los que la marca utiliza la misma canción, con versiones distintas, para diferentes narrativas visuales sobre el mismo producto; la segunda, aquella en los que la marca utiliza canciones y narrativas visuales distintas sobre el mismo producto; y la tercera, aquella en los que la marca usa una narrativa visual distinta y canción distinta para promocionar la imagen de marca y un producto de la misma. Este estudio investiga si los estereotipos nacionales que tienen las marcas influyen a la hora de seleccionar la música para un anuncio publicitario y así representar la identidad de la nación en la que se emite.

Abstract

El presente estudio construye un análisis cualitativo sobre la experiencia inmersiva en el espectador que se lleva a cabo en Dogville, película dirigida en el año 2003 por Lars von Trier, uno de los creadores del género cinematográfico Dogma 95. Entendemos como inmersión cinematográfica la capacidad de absorber y transportar al espectador a un mundo ficticio de forma emocional y cognitiva, reduciendo en su psique la distancia entre realidad y ficción. A lo largo de esta investigación, examinaremos desde la semiótica, cómo se hace un uso específicamente estudiado de los elementos pertenecientes al lenguaje cinematográfico en la película Dogville. La intención de estas decisiones tiene como principal objetivo la creación de una experiencia inmersiva en el espectador, aunque existen algunos elementos que obstaculizan dicha experiencia. La dificultad que presenta Dogville se proyecta en su peculiar escenografía, ya que se trata de una escenografía teatral prácticamente desnuda de atrezzo y decorados, a través de la cual conocemos la historia de un pueblo y sus habitantes. De esta forma, se aleja de aquellas fórmulas arquetípicas a las que estamos habituados, dando paso a un cine más experimental mediante el cual, de forma inevitable se transgrede en mayor medida con las fórmulas inmersivas tradicionales en la cinematografía. Por último, se procede a analizar mediante una encuesta de percepción el efecto inmersivo en una muestra específicamente seleccionada, concretamente a 10 espectadores. Con este estudio se busca obtener una posible solución o aproximación a la siguiente cuestión: ¿De qué depende el efecto inmersivo del espectador en Dogville?

Abstract

This research aims to centrally analyze the impact of state and federal public funding allocated to public state higher education institutions in Mexico on the performance of scientific research. Through the review of previous studies, international indicators, and government official data, a database of indicators was created for comparison and correlation. The findings presented highlight the importance of allocating adequate resources and contribute to the understanding of how funding can influence performance in scientific research, innovation, social impact, and, consequently, the continuous improvement of the quality of education in the universities under analysis.
