This paper presents a technology for Over the Air(OTA) updating that allows software updates in consumer devices such as mobile phones and car-navigation systems that are connected to networks, and it adopts NAND flash memories and demand paging technologies. Software updates for these kinds of consumer devices are carried out using the binary difference that minimizes the amount of update data, software construction technologies that minimize the rewriting of flash memories, and fast compression technologies that enables rapid rewriting. This paper focuses on Byte Pair Encoding (BPE), which is one of the most efficient methods of compressing program code in consumer devices that adopts NAND flash memories and demand paging technologies. We describe a fast method of compressing BPE and evaluating it. Index Terms--Software Updating, Program Code Compression, Byte Pair Encoding, NAND Flash Memory

The goal of the cycle time synchronization and its specific implementation described in this article is to ensure a sufficient accuracy and fidelity of the streamed multimedia contents transmitted between networked IEEE 1394 clusters via UWB (Ultra Wide Band) over Coaxial Cable in HANA (High Definition Audio Video Network Alliance) and AV/C (IEEE 1394 Audio/Video Control protocol) consumer's home digital multimedia networks. The implementation of this synchronization mechanism, based on the standard 'Networking IEEE 1394 Clusters via UWB over Coaxial Cable', solves two specific potential problems, which would arise without a proper synchronization method and which otherwise would damage the quality of streamed content enough to avoid the success of the HANA networks in its just and only target, the consumer electronics market. This mechanism avoids buffer under- and overruns in sink's clusters as well as prevents phase difference artifacts when transmitting streaming data through the consumer's home network. Film Bulk Acoustic Resonator (FBAR) is widely used as an individual component RF filter in RF circuit because of its very high Q factor and low temperature coefficient. However, the RF pads and bonding wires of FBAR component will lower its Q factor. This effect is modeled by a new model named as PMBVD based on the traditional Modified Butterworth-Van Dyke (MBVD) model in this paper. PMBVD model can describe FBAR individual component more exactly than MBVD model, especially near FBAR operating frequency, as proved by test results. The influences by different kinds of RF pads are also analyzed based on PMBVD. The simulations based on PMBVD show that optimized RF pads can enhance whole device Q factor to meet demands. This paper presents a comparison between the scalable extension of H.264/AVC (SVC) and transcoding, in terms of Rate-Distortion(RD) performance and computational complexity. Both bitrate and spatial resolution reduction cases are included. Simulation results show that, in the aspect of RD performance, SVC performs significantly better in bitrate reduction and slightly better in spatial resolution reduction. Meanwhile, SVC adaptation through bitstream extraction has negligible complexity compared with transcoding. A new series resonant sustainer is presented to reduce the cost and power consumption of PDP TV, which employs address-and-display-period-separated (ADS) driving method. The proposed sustain driver can reduce the number of components compared with the prior approaches. It also improves the energy recovery efficiency about 3 %. The operational principle and its features are illustrated and compared with the conventional approaches. The high-performance of the proposed sustain driver is verified by computer-aided simulations and experiments using a prototype equipped with a 7.5-inch diagonal panel, which is operated at 200 kHz switching frequency. Restricting children access to materials unsuitable for them such as violence scenes is very important for parents. So there is a feature named Parental Control in devices such as televisions and computers to define the contents children can access. The parental control setting must be protected from children and is usually done by a password. In this paper, we propose a new method for distinguishing between adult users and child users based on human speech. In our proposed method, the user must say a word and the adult users are identified by processing the speech. Our current implementation has 92.5% accuracy for distinguishing adult users from children. Index Terms--Parental Control, Speech Processing, Spoken Interfaces, Support Vector Machines (SVM).
