Surf is probably one of the steadiest-growing sports in the world, maybe because surfing isn't just about sports or physical activity. It's about a culture, a newborn tribe, and a collective identity that thrives within the strength of a global outdoor community. This sense of belonging is reinforced by philosophical assumptions besides a political and economic evidence: the ocean is freedom, and the sea is the last free place on the planet. You can go to the beach and the only thing you need is a board. This fact implies, and relies, on other significant determinations regarding phenomenological and spiritual dimensions. This book reflects a wide and heterogeneous set of essays that will give the reader a wide range of perspectives that depart from the Philosophy of Sport and expand also to cultural, anthropological, medical, poetic, and existential insights.

Technopolitics is a follow-up book that intends to depart and expand the concept of Cyberpolitics to all the dimensions and effects of technology in our lives but placing politics at the center of debate and thought. Most investigations in the fields of Humanities have highlighted the impact of digitization and social virtualization and mapped the transition from the Industrial Revolution, and mass disciplinary society, to the digital revolution, telework and social atomism. The fusion of disruptive technologies is changing the fundamentals of our world almost roaming on its own towards a near future with unprecedented and unpredictable outcomes. This new technological reason implies a rupture and a paradigm shift in the radical transition from an instrumental reason (auxiliary) to an autonomous reason (essential). This means the impossibility of further sustaining the illusion of technological neutrality. Science, culture and technology appear to be merging and in combat simultaneously. And all fields of knowledge are alert to a main idea: how deep is technology shaping our societies and politics? Regardless of the outcome, an age of instability is also an age of challenges. In our era of uncertainty, and while our civilization moves forward toward a hyper-technological future, we should not forget to discuss and reflect on the values and ethics we would like to survive the ruin of time and to pass on to the next generations.

Talvez a única coisa verdadeira e necessária na vida seja prestar homenagem às coisas belas que amamos, sabendo que outros também as amarão muito depois de partirmos. Este vínculo que é criado entre os vivos e os mortos, e os que virão, é a raiz de nossa sociedade, nossa cultura, nossa civilização. A história da humanidade está ligada há muitos séculos à relação desenvolvida com o cavalo. Essa relação permitiu-nos construir as bases da nossa sobrevivência e prosperidade, criando uma aliança com vários animais domesticados, entre os quais o cavalo é o mais paradoxal, nunca perdendo a sua autonomia. Uma homenagem é uma celebração. E, nesta conferência, buscamos celebrar a beleza do cavalo, a sua liberdade, força, gentileza, carácter e todos os atributos e características simbólicas que admiramos no seu espírito indomável. Celebrar o cavalo e a cultura do cavalo significa tentar dialogar com todos os mundos que habita, desde as pastagens onde ainda trabalha, ao desporto, à terapia, numa palavra, pensar e pesquisar em toda a sua multidimensionalidade.

Incitatus, o cavalo transformado em cônsul por determinação do imperador romano Calígula, é trazido aqui como um símbolo da relação profunda, mas ainda carente de maiores explorações, entre humor e política. Os artigos que compõem esta coletânea, originalmente apresentados em simpósio internacional on-line de mesmo nome ocorrido em maio de 2021, trazem reflexões de acadêmicos do Brasil, de Portugal, da Espanha, da Itália, da Argentina e da Inglaterra sobre assuntos como humor e esfera pública, memes, utopias e alegorias literárias. Incitatus, the horse turned into consul by order of Roman Emperor Caligula, is brought here as a symbol of the deep (but still open to further exploration) relation between humor and politics. The articles that are part of this collection, originally presented in an international on-line symposium that took place in May 2021, bring reflections from scholars from Brazil, Portugal, Spain, Italy, Argentina and England on topics like humor and the public sphere, memes, utopias and literary allegories.

Esta proposta de investigação procura esclarecer o fenômeno do humor, das suas múltiplas derivações e consequências. Como forma global, procura-se esse esclarecimento através de diferentes análises filosóficas, acompanhadas dos respectivos problemas centrais aí envolvidos, na tentativa de identificar os elementos base do humor, bem como na análise de estudos de caso estético-políticos.
