BackgroundAlthough social rejection is among the strongest proximal precipitants of major depressive disorder (MDD), little is known about the underlying neurobiological mechanisms and whether neural sensitivity to social rejection may help explain differences in MDD risk. To address this issue, we tested whether neural responses to social threat differed in female adolescents at high vs. low maternal risk for MDD.MethodFemale adolescents with (high-risk; n = 22, Mage = 14.68) and without (low-risk; n = 30, Mage = 15.07) a maternal history of depression were experimentally exposed to negative and neutral social evaluation while undergoing an fMRI scan. Neural responses were assessed by event-related activity and functional connectivity, as well as multivoxel pattern analysis. Activity and functional connectivity analyses focused on a priori-selected regions of interest implicated in self-referential processing and emotion regulation.ResultsCompared to low-risk female adolescents, high-risk female adolescents exhibited greater increases in self-reported depression and social disconnection following social evaluation. Moreover, compared to low-risk female adolescents, high-risk female adolescents exhibited greater amygdala responses to negative social evaluation and a differential pattern of functional connectivity in brain regions related to emotion regulation, self-referential processing, and negative affect. Additionally, these markers of neural threat reactivity were related to depressive symptoms.LimitationsA cross-sectional study design and relatively small, Western sample.ConclusionsThese results suggest that exaggerated neural reactivity to social threat-and an atypical pattern of related functional connectivity-is evident in individuals with a preclinical risk factor for depression. Targeting such responding may thus be a fruitful strategy for preventing depression in at-risk youth.

Street networks allow people and goods to move through cities, but they are vulnerable to disasters like floods, earthquakes, and terrorist attacks. Well-planned network design can make a city more resilient and robust to such disruptions, but we still know little about worldwide patterns of vulnerability, or worldwide empirical relationships between specific design characteristics and resilience. This study quantifies and measures the vulnerability of the street networks of every urban area in the world then models the relationships between vulnerability and street network design characteristics. To do so, we simulate over 2.4 billion trips across more than 8,000 urban areas in 178 countries, while also simulating network disruption events representing floods, earthquakes, and targeted attacks. We find that disrupting high-centrality nodes severely impacts network function. All else equal, networks with higher connectivity, fewer chokepoints, or less circuity are less vulnerable to disruption's impacts. This study thus contributes a new global understanding of network design and vulnerability to the literature. We argue that these design characteristics offer high leverage points for street network resilience and robustness that planners should emphasize when designing or retrofitting urban networks.

Summary: Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) are essential in environmental monitoring, healthcare, and industrial automation. Persistent connectivity and coverage challenges in WSN stem from intermittent node connectivity due to obstacles, signal interference, node failures, and compromised data reliability. Existing solutions, while useful, exhibit limitations in fully addressing these concerns. To confront these challenges, a proposed system introduces the Hybrid Grey Optimizer–Harmony Search Algorithm (Hybrid GWO‐HSA), merging adaptive routing protocols and efficient deployment techniques. The Hybrid GWO‐HSA system conducts an initial environmental analysis to pinpoint factors affecting node communication. It strategically deploys additional nodes to bridge coverage gaps, using the Grey Wolf Algorithm's capabilities to optimize node placement. Moreover, it employs the Harmony Search Algorithm to dynamically adjust communication paths based on real‐time network conditions, ensuring robust data transmission. The system workflow involves an environmental assessment followed by node deployment guided by the Grey Wolf Algorithm. Subsequently, the Harmony Search adapts communication paths to enhance connectivity. Simulations and practical experiments across diverse environments validate the Hybrid GWO‐HSA system's effectiveness. Results showcase substantial improvements: network lifetime of 13,200 s, a network delay of 37 ms, a coverage rate of 0.88, and an energy consumption of 590 J. This Hybrid GWO‐HSA‐based system establishes a resilient and efficient WSN infrastructure vital for reliable data collection and transmission in challenging settings. The Hybrid GWO‐HSA system offers a comprehensive approach to WSN connectivity and coverage issues by leveraging firefly and genetic algorithms, and it significantly enhances WSN performance and reliability across multifaceted application domains. Investigating the spatial and size distributions of fracture structures formed by various external stresses in coal is essential for understanding fracture evolution and methane percolation behavior in coal reservoirs. To estimate the characteristics of microscale fractures in three-dimensional space, X-ray computed microtomography was used to establish digital reconstructed fracture models. Two algorithms that reflect topological features were applied to quantitatively characterize coal fractures. The results show that tectonic stress negatively affects the anisotropy of fractures, reducing the frequency of fractures that are approximately parallel or perpendicular to the main direction. A new fracture connectivity evaluation parameter, calculated by the integral average of the linear fitting curve between the coordination number and the corresponding average radius of many maximum spheres in the pore network model, is proposed. This method is more objective for evaluating fracture connectivity. The results indicate that with increasing tectonic action, fracture connectivity improves. Based on skeleton model data, we found a power-law relationship between the equivalent diameter of the fracture and the cumulative volume. Using this relationship and the capillary model assumption, we rederived expressions for total gas seepage flux and permeability applicable to fractures that do not conform to the tortuous fractal theory. Additionally, we discovered that the fracture aperture follows a log-normal distribution and derived an improved cube model's mathematical formula based on this. These findings are significant for revealing how different fracture structures affect gas seepage and provide a foundation for developing theoretical models to predict gas seepage in coal reservoirs. Higher cardiorespiratory fitness has been associated with improved cognitive control in preadolescent children, with various studies highlighting related brain health benefits. This cross-sectional study aimed to provide novel insights into the fitness-cognition relationship by investigating task-related changes in effective connectivity within two brain networks involved in cognitive control: the cingulo-opercular and fronto-parietal networks. Twenty-four higher-fit and twenty-four lower-fit preadolescent children completed a modified flanker task that modulated inhibitory control demand while their EEG and task performance were concurrently recorded. Effective connectivity for correct trials in the theta band was estimated using directed transfer function. The results indicate that children with higher fitness levels demonstrated greater connectivity in specific directions within the cingulo-opercular network (average effect size, d = 0.72). Brain-behavior correlations demonstrated a positive association between the majority of these connections and general task accuracy, which was also higher in higher fit children (average correlation coefficient, ρ = 0.34). The findings further support a positive relationship between fitness and cognitive performance in children. EEG findings offer novel insights into the potential brain mechanisms underlying the fitness-cognition relationship. The study suggests that increased task-related connectivity within the cingulo-opercular network may mediate the cognitive benefits associated with higher fitness levels in preadolescent children. In this paper, we extend the results for connectivity and convex hulls of Sierpiński relatives whose convex hulls have right isosceles triangle boundaries to the relatives corresponding to equilateral triangle version. Furthermore, we use a particular subclass of the relatives called trapezoid-shaped relatives to build new hexagonal fractals, which helps to visualize and distinguish the subgroups of symmetries of the hexagon. Objective: Vestibular function is controlled by interactions between various neuropathways that have different effects on balance and are connected to various brain areas. However, few studies have investigated the relation between changes in VN connectivity and aging using neuroimaging. We investigated neural connectivities in the vestibular nucleus (VN) and ventralis intermedius (VIM) nucleus of the thalamus in young and old healthy adults by diffusion tensor imaging. Methods: This study recruited twenty-three normal healthy adults with no history of a neurological or musculoskeletal disease, that is, eleven old healthy adults (6 males, 5 females; mean age 63.36 ± 4.25 years) and 12 young healthy adults (7 males, 5 females; mean age 28.42 ± 4.40 years). Connectivity was defined as the incidence of connection between the VN, VIM, and target brain regions. Incidence of connection was counted from VN and VIM to each brain region. The subjective visual vertical (SVV) and the Berg balance scale (BBS) were used to assess vestibular function and balance. Results: The VN showed high connectivity with brainstem (dentate nucleus, medial longitudinal fasciculus, and VIM), but relatively low connectivity with cerebral cortex (parieto-insular vestibular cortex (PIVC) and primary somatosensory cortex) at a threshold of 30 streamlines. In particular, VN connectivity with PIVC was significantly lower in elderly adults (> 60 years old) than in young adults (20–40 years old) (p < 0.05). VIM showed high to mid connectivity with brainstems and cerebral cortexes at a threshold of 30, but no significant difference was observed between young and old adults (p > 0.05). SVV and BBS showed no significant differences between young and old adults (p > 0.05). Conclusion: We investigated incidences of neural connectivities of VN and VIM in young and old healthy adults. Fluvial networks are characterised by spatial and temporal transitions as geomorphic and ecological processes within these systems are mediated longitudinally by sediment and water fluxes which vary spatially in magnitude and variability. The aim of this special issue was to shed light on the nature of source-to-sink fluvial transitions associated with spatial and temporal variability in geomorphic and hydrological processes. We encouraged contributions that considered fluvial transitions at any spatial or temporal scale, and invited research that addressed the implications of such transitions. The number of submissions was limited, which was potentially indicative of the lack of field-based studies being conducted at a catchment- or source-to-sink scale. Two of the published submissions considered longitudinal transitions in sediment sources using a sediment finger-printing approach, while the remaining two articles combined traditional fluvial sedimentology techniques with optically stimulated luminescence chronology to deduce controls on river reach flood dynamics. As we enter a time of unprecedented human impact on the environment, there is a clear need for future research to focus on the catchment as a holistic unit as the interconnectedness of landscape pattern and process has implications for biodiversity, water quality, ecosystem service provision and thus catchment management. For most quadrupeds, locomotion involves alternating movements of the fore- and hindlimbs. In birds, however, while walking generally involves alternating movements of the legs, to generate lift and thrust, the wings are moved synchronously with each other. Neural circuits in the spinal cord, referred to as central pattern generators (CPGs), are the source of the basic locomotor rhythms and patterns. Given the differences in the patterns of movement of the wings and legs, it is likely that the neuronal components and connectivity of the CPG that coordinates wing movements differ from those that coordinate leg movements. In this study, we used in vitro preparations of embryonic chicken spinal cords (E11–E14) to compare the neural responses of spinal CPGs that control and coordinate wing flapping with those that control alternating leg movements. We found that in response to N-methyl-d-aspartate (NMDA) or a combination of NMDA and serotonin (5-HT), the intact chicken spinal cord produced rhythmic outputs that were synchronous both bilaterally and between the wing and leg segments. Despite this, we found that this rhythmic output was disrupted by an antagonist of glycine receptors in the lumbosacral (legs), but not the brachial (wing) segments. This position statement aims to present the current situation around biosensors, their perspectives and importantly the need to set the framework for their validation and safe use. The resilience and adaptability of complex networks is crucial in ensuring their functionality against disruptions. Particularly, maintaining network connectivity under various attack scenarios is a key aspect of such resilience. Network connectivity refers to the degree to which nodes within a network are interconnected and able to exchange information or resources. Its robustness reflects the ability of a network to maintain connectivity under various attacks. Such ability has profound physical significance, ensuring the stability and reliability of real-world systems. Currently, connectivity robustness assessments rely heavily on very time-consuming attack simulations. This paper introduces a graph neural network framework for network connectivity robustness learning (GCRL) to advance the study of network connectivity robustness. GCRL transforms initial degree distributions and network topology into informative embedding vectors, which are then processed by a robustness learning module mainly composed of multi-layer perceptron, achieving both high speed and precision. Our extensive experiments demonstrate the superior performance of GCRL obtained in less time compared to existing methods, especially in tough scenarios where test data distributions significantly differ from the training set. Freshwater connectivity and the associated flow regime are critical components of the health of freshwater ecosystems. When freshwater ecosystems are fragmented, the movements and flows of species, nutrients, sediments, and water are altered, changing the natural dynamics of freshwater ecosystems. The consequences of these changes include declines and loss of freshwater species populations and freshwater ecosystems, and alterations in the delivery of certain ecosystem services, such as fisheries, buffering of flood events, healthy deltas, recreational and cultural values, and others. Measures exist that can maintain and restore connectivity or mitigate against its loss in the face of constructed barriers or other habitat alterations. These measures include system-scale planning for energy and water resources that includes options for limiting loss of freshwater connectivity; putting in place protections for keeping critically important freshwater habitats connected; mitigating impacts on freshwater ecosystems via barrier design, fish passage, or implementation of environmental flows; and restoring freshwaters via barrier removal and reconnection of rivers, wetlands, and floodplains and via active management of groundwater recharge. We present case studies of measures applied in Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Americas and reflect on the next generation of innovation needed to further enhance and advance the implementation of restoration and protection and the mitigation of freshwater connectivity impacts. We initiate the investigation of the parameterized complexity of Diameter and Connectivity in the streaming paradigm. On the positive end, we show that knowing a vertex cover of size k allows for algorithms in the Adjacency List (AL) streaming model whose number of passes is constant and memory is O (log n) for any fixed k. Underlying these algorithms is a method to execute a breadth-first search in O (k) passes and O (k log n) bits of memory. On the negative end, we show that many other parameters lead to lower bounds in the AL model, where Ω (n / p) bits of memory is needed for any p-pass algorithm even for constant parameter values. In particular, this holds for graphs with a known modulator (deletion set) of constant size to a graph that has no induced subgraph isomorphic to a fixed graph H, for most H. For some cases, we can also show one-pass, Ω (n log n) bits of memory lower bounds. We also prove a much stronger Ω (n 2 / p) lower bound for Diameter on bipartite graphs. Finally, using the insights we developed into streaming parameterized graph exploration algorithms, we show a new streaming kernelization algorithm for computing a vertex cover of size k. Managing the explosion of data from the edge to the cloud requires intelligent supervision, such as fog node deployments, which is an essential task to assess network operability. To ensure network operability, the deployment process must be carried out effectively regarding two main factors: connectivity and coverage. The network connectivity is based on fog node deployment, which determines the network's physical topology, while the coverage determines the network accessibility. Both have a significant impact on network performance and guarantee the network quality of service. Determining an optimum fog node deployment method that minimizes cost, reduces computation and communication overhead, and provides a high degree of network connection coverage is extremely hard. Therefore, maximizing coverage and preserving network connectivity is a non-trivial problem. In this paper, we propose a fog deployment algorithm that can effectively connect the fog nodes and cover all edge devices. Firstly, we formulate fog deployment as an instance of multi-objective optimization problems with a large search space. Then, we leverage Marine Predator Algorithm (MPA) to tackle the deployment problem and prove that MPA is well-suited for fog node deployment due to its rapid convergence and low computational complexity, compared to other population-based algorithms. Finally, we evaluate the proposed algorithm on a different benchmark of generated instances with various fog scenario configurations. Our algorithm outperforms state-of-the-art methods, providing promising results for optimal fog node deployment. It demonstrates a 50% performance improvement compared to other algorithms, aligning with the No Free Lunch Theorem (NFL Theorem) Theorem's assertion that no algorithm has a universal advantage across all problem domains. An n-dimensional folded spined cube denoted as F S Q n is one of the new interconnection networks. It is a new variant of hypercube, and it can be generated from spined cube by adding a perfect matching. Folded spined cube has lower cost and less diameter compared to some interconnection networks like hypercube and spined cube. Additionally, it is necessary to study some properties regarding to connectivity for a novel and valuable network. Doha, the capital city of Qatar, has experienced remarkable urban growth over the last two decades. This raises concerns regarding the city's fulfillment of compactness, complexity, and connectivity. This paper considers transit-oriented development (TOD) as a potential tool to attain a sustainable and diverse urban landscape in a situated context. Qualitative research methods, which include observations and mapping, are employed to gain a deeper understanding of the physical aspects of a situated context in the neighborhood of Al-Slata, Doha. Specifically, this paper aims to investigate the implementation of TOD in metro station precincts within Al-Slata based on five design aspects: (1) walkability; (2) balance of ground use; (3) mixed-use spaces; (4) intermodality and transportation hubs; and (5) a public transportation network. The findings include a lack of complexity and connectivity between urban activities and spaces adjacent to the metro station. In addition, these findings demonstrate the potential of metro stations to preserve the cultural heritage and social identity in a rapidly developing city like Doha. The recommendations include a layout design proposal to increase connectivity and complexity within the situated context and suggestions on how transit nodes and metro stations could become active hubs within the city. Stream drying is increasing globally, with widespread impacts on stream ecosystems. Here, we investigated how the impacts of drying on stream ecosystem connectivity might depend on stream network size and the location of drying within the stream network. Using 11 stream networks from across the United States, we simulated drying scenarios in which we varied the location and spatial extent of drying. We found that the rate of connectivity loss varied with stream network size, such that larger stream networks lost connectivity more rapidly than smaller stream networks. We also found that the rate of connectivity loss varied with the location of drying. When drying occurred in the mainstem, even small amounts of drying resulted in rapid losses in ecosystem connectivity. When drying occurred in headwater reaches, small amounts of drying had little impact on connectivity. Beyond a certain threshold, however, connectivity declined rapidly with further increases in drying. Given the increasing stream drying worldwide, our findings underscore the need for managers to be particularly vigilant about fragmentation when managing at large spatial scales and when stream drying occurs in mainstem reaches. This study describes electroencephalography (EEG) measurements during a simple finger movement in people with stroke to understand how temporal patterns of cortical activation and network connectivity align with prolonged muscle contraction at the end of a task. We investigated changes in the EEG temporal patterns in the beta band (13–26 Hz) of people with chronic stroke (N = 10, 7 F/3 M) and controls (N = 10, 7 F/3 M), during and after a cued movement of the index finger. We quantified the change in beta band EEG power relative to baseline as activation at each electrode and the change in task-based phase-locking value (tbPLV) and beta band task-based coherence (tbCoh) relative to baseline coherence as connectivity between EEG electrodes. Finger movements were associated with a decrease in beta power (event related desynchronization (ERD)) followed by an increase in beta power (event related resynchronization (ERS)). The ERS in the post task period was lower in the stroke group (7%), compared to controls (44%) (p < 0.001) and the transition from ERD to ERS was delayed in the stroke group (1.43 s) compared to controls (0.90 s) in the C3 electrode (p = 0.007). In the same post movement period, the stroke group maintained a heightened tbPLV (p = 0.030 for time to baseline of the C3:Fz electrode pair) and did not show the decrease in connectivity in electrode pair C3:Fz that was observed in controls (tbPLV: p = 0.006; tbCoh: p = 0.023). Our results suggest that delays in cortical deactivation patterns following movement coupled with changes in the time course of connectivity between the sensorimotor and frontal cortices in the stroke group might explain clinical observations of prolonged muscle activation in people with stroke. The resting-state paradigm is frequently applied to study spontaneous activity of the brain in normal and clinical conditions. To assess the relationship between brain activity and subjective experiences, various questionnaires are used. Previous studies using Amsterdam Resting State Questionnaire were focusing on fMRI functional connectivity or EEG microstates and spectral aspect. Here, we utilized Global Field Synchronization as the parameter to estimate global functional connectivity. By re-analyzing the resting-state data from 226 young healthy participants we showed a strong evidence of relationship between ARSQ domain of Comfort and GFS values in the alpha range (r = 0.210, BF10 = 12.338) and substantial evidence for positive relationship between ARSQ domain of Comfort and GFS in the beta frequency range (r = 196, BF10 = 6.307). Our study indicates the relevance of assessments of spontaneous thought occurring during the resting-state for the understanding of the individual intrinsic electrical brain activity. Tropical dry forests are the most threatened of all the major tropical forest types and less than 25% of TDF currently remain worldwide. They are located mostly in South America. Parameters such as habitat loss, fragmentation and loss of connectivity have been identified as the main threats to biodiversity. This research aims to discover the forests changes, the evolution of connectivity and fragmentation of the South American tropical dry forest between 1992 and 2020. Land uses layers provided by the Copernicus program were employed, and land uses change, fragmentation and structural connectivity were analyzed in GIS systems. To calculate the functional connectivity, the Graphab software was used. The results showed a loss of forest surface, where fragmentation increased and a loss of functional connectivity between 25% and 49% occurs depended on the parameter analysed. On the other hand, some areas were recovered. Brazil is the country that recovered the most forest area and Argentina, Paraguay and Bolivia those that lost the most area. Only 31% of the area was not altered between 1992 and 2020. Human activities such as deforestation, agriculture expansion, and urbanization have led these forests to become increasingly fragmented and worse connected impacting on both ecological and socio-economic aspects. As for an operation system, having a solid and reliable composition structure is the basis for the effective implementation of combat tasks and the prerequisite for giving full play to the system effectiveness. In order to estimate the continuous running capability of the operation system architecture in case of under attack or faults occurrence, starting from the perspectives of point connectivity and edge connectivity, a reliability analytics method for the operation architecture is proposed based on the connectivity among its components. Sediment connectivity indexes serve as a diagnostic tool for investigating the overall hydro-geomorphological functioning. The primary factors influencing sediment connectivity are rainfall and changes in land cover. For the period 1995–2016, we investigated changes in sediment connectivity in two ca.1000 km2 catchments located in the Ethiopian Highlands and evaluated the potential sediment sources of the catchment. These catchments are characterized by severe land degradation and high sediment yields. The sediment connectivity of the catchments was computed using SedIn-Connect, incorporating variables such as a digital elevation model, rainfall erosivity, soil erodibility, surface roughness, cover management, and surface runoff to formulate the weight factor. Rainfall variability was calculated using TAMSAT data, and land cover maps were derived using Landsat data in Google Earth Engine. The findings show substantial spatial variability in sediment connectivity across the two catchments. The modified index of connectivity value has a positive correlation with sediment yield from two stations whereby the sediment connectivity is higher in the Gumara Catchment than in the Rib Catchment. In both catchments, bare land, cropland, shrubland, and grassland exhibited higher connectivity, whereas forest and rural settlements displayed lower connectivity. Croplands registered the most pronounced increase in connectivity, mirroring similar trends observed in shrublands and grasslands. Conversely, forested areas demonstrated relatively stable connectivity patterns. Notably, croplands nestled in steep slopes and proximate to rivers emerged as potential sediment sources capable of influencing sediment connectivity within the two catchments. Background: The above studies indicate that the SCZ animal model has abnormal gamma oscillations and abnormal functional coupling ability of brain regions at the cortical level. However, few researchers have focused on the correlation between brain complexity and connectivity at the cortical level. In order to provide a more accurate representation of brain activity, we studied the complexity of electrocorticogram (ECoG) signals and the information interaction between brain regions in schizophrenic rats, and explored the correlation between brain complexity and connectivity. Methods: We collected ECoG signal from SCZ rats. The frequency domain and time domain functional connectivity of SCZ rats were evaluated by magnitude square coherence and mutual information (MI). Permutation entropy (PE) and permutation Lempel-Ziv complexity (PLZC) were used to analyze the complexity of ECoG, and the relationship between them was evaluated. In addition, in order to further understand the causal structure of directional information flow among brain regions, we used phase transfer entropy (PTE) to analyze the effective connectivity of the brain. Results: Firstly, in the high gamma band, the complexity of brain regions in SCZ rats is higher than that in normal rats, and the neuronal activity is irregularity. Secondly, the information integration ability of SCZ rats decreased and the communication of brain network information was hindered at the cortical level. Finally, compared with normal rats, the causal relationship between brain regions of SCZ rats was closer, but the information interaction center was not clear. Conclusion: The above findings suggest that at the cortical level, complexity and connectivity are valid biomarkers for identifying SCZ. This bridges the gap between peak potentials and EEG. Participants underwent diffusion tensor imaging and parents rated children’s behavioral and adaptive function on the CBCL and ABAS-3, respectively. Probabilistic tractography quantified streamline density. Group differences were analyzed for structural connectivity and behavioral outcomes.Groups differed in structural connectivity within regions of the default mode and central executive networks (ps < .05, FDR corrected). The msTBI group displayed decreased connectivity relative to cmTBI and OI, whereas the cmTBI group displayed increased connectivity relative to msTBI and OI. Similar patterns emerged in several behavioral domains. Ordinary least squares path analyses showed that structural connectivity mediated the relationship between injury severity and multiple parent-reported outcomes for msTBI.White matter structural connectivity may explain unique variance in long-term psychosocial and adaptive outcome in children with TBI, particularly in cases of moderate-to-severe injury. Summary Understanding the drivers of assemblages of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) is essential to leverage the benefits of AMF for plant growth and health. Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi are heterogeneously distributed in space even at small scale. We review the role of plant distribution in driving AMF assemblages (the passenger hypothesis), using a transposition of the conceptual framework of landscape ecology. Because rooting systems correspond to habitat patches with limited carrying capacity that differ in quality due to host‐preference effects, we suggest considering plant communities as mosaics of AMF microhabitats. We review how predictions from landscape ecology apply to plant community effects on AMF, and the existing evidence that tests these predictions. Although many studies have been conducted on the effect of plant compositional heterogeneity on AMF assemblages, they mostly focused on the effect of plant richness, while only a few investigated the effect of configurational heterogeneity, plant connectivity or plant community temporal dynamics. We propose key predictions and future prospects to fill these gaps. Considering plant communities as landscapes extends the passenger hypothesis by including a spatially explicit dimension and its associated ecological processes and may help understand and manipulate AMF assemblages at small spatial scales. Behavioral strategies for survival rely on the updates the brain continuously makes based on the surrounding environment. External stimuli—neutral, positive, and negative—relay core information to the brain, where a complex anatomical network rapidly organizes actions, including approach or escape, and regulates emotions. Human neuroimaging and physiology in nonhuman primates, rodents, and teleosts suggest a pivotal role of the lateral habenula in translating external information into survival behaviors. Here, we review the literature describing how discrete habenular modules—reflecting the molecular signatures, anatomical connectivity, and functional components—are recruited by environmental stimuli and cooperate to prompt specific behavioral outcomes. We argue that integration of these findings in the context of valence processing for reinforcing or discouraging behaviors is necessary, offering a compelling model to guide future work. Evidence accumulates that the cerebellum's role in the brain is not restricted to motor functions. Rather, cerebellar activity seems to be crucial for a variety of tasks that rely on precise event timing and prediction. Due to its complex structure and importance in communication, human speech requires a particularly precise and predictive coordination of neural processes to be successfully comprehended. Recent studies proposed that the cerebellum is indeed a major contributor to speech processing, but how this contribution is achieved mechanistically remains poorly understood. The current study aimed to reveal a mechanism underlying cortico-cerebellar coordination and demonstrate its speech-specificity. In a reanalysis of magnetoencephalography data, we found that activity in the cerebellum aligned to rhythmic sequences of noise-vocoded speech, irrespective of its intelligibility. We then tested whether these "entrained" responses persist, and how they interact with other brain regions, when a rhythmic stimulus stopped and temporal predictions had to be updated. We found that only intelligible speech produced sustained rhythmic responses in the cerebellum. During this "entrainment echo," but not during rhythmic speech itself, cerebellar activity was coupled with that in the left inferior frontal gyrus, and specifically at rates corresponding to the preceding stimulus rhythm. Nature‐based solutions (NbS) have emerged at the science, policy and practitioner interface to address environmental challenges facing society. NbS involve people working with nature to protect, restore or manage ecosystems. Yet NbS vary to the extent they support biological diversity which has implications for ecological resilience. We reviewed how ecological resilience has been conceptualised in the NbS literature. The literature included reference to both resilience to specific disturbances and general resilience to future environmental change. We found reporting of resilience mechanisms was limited except for afforestation efforts where there is increasing recognition of the role of species diversity in contributing to resilience. Reporting was limited for resilience mechanisms that operate within species and populations (e.g. genetic diversity) and at the landscape scale (e.g. connectivity). Resistance was overlooked despite the prevalence of NbS intended to address climate change. From the broader ecological literature, we distilled resilience mechanisms that have been identified for native and experimental ecosystems and suggested interventions for the emergence of resilience mechanisms in NbS. Synthesis. Interventions to conserve biodiversity such as retaining and restoring ecosystems, are critical given that biodiversity, within and across scales of biological organisation, underpins several ecological resilience mechanisms in NbS. Understanding the impacts of human behaviour on large carnivores in shared landscapes is thus important but is often overlooked in habitat assessments or conservation planning. We employed an integrated approach that considers human behaviour and landscape structure metrics to assess the potential for human‐puma (Puma concolor) coexistence in the Chaco region, a global deforestation and defaunation hotspot.Argentine Dry Chaco (~490,000 km2).We identified suitable puma habitat patches and movement areas using occupancy modelling and combined it with a spatial human‐puma conflict risk model based on interview data to identify ‘safe’ and ‘unsafe’ habitat patches. We then used resistance surfaces to identify ‘safe’ and ‘unsafe’ movement areas, as well as ‘severed’ movement areas where anthropogenic land conversion inhibits movement.Safe puma habitat patches (i.e., suitable and safe) covered 29% of the region, whereas attractive sinks (i.e., suitable but risky) represented 12%. Movement areas corresponded to 60% of the region, while conflict risk and high landscape resistance undermined connectivity: unsafe and severed movement areas covered 10% and 11% of the region, respectively. Nearly 98% of safe habitat and movement areas occurred outside protected areas.We provide an integrated conceptual framework and spatial explicit template for a three‐pronged conservation strategy to (1) protect safe habitat and movement areas, (2) mitigate livestock depredation in attractive sinks and unsafe movement areas and (3) restore landscape in severed and matrix areas to improve ecological connectivity. This would allow pumas to maintain viable populations while reducing negative impacts on local people. The hypothalamus in the mammalian brain is responsible for regulating functions associated with survival and reproduction representing a complex set of highly interconnected, yet anatomically and functionally distinct, sub-regions. It remains unclear what factors drive the spatial organization of sub-regions within the hypothalamus. One potential factor may be structural connectivity of the network that promotes efficient function with well-connected sub-regions placed closer together geometrically, i.e., the strongest axonal signal transferred through the shortest geometrical distance. To empirically test for such efficiency, we use hypothalamic data derived from the Allen Mouse Brain Connectivity Atlas, which provides a structural connectivity map of mouse brain regions derived from a series of viral tracing experiments. Using both cost function minimization and comparison with a weighted, sphere-packing ensemble, we demonstrate that the sum of the distances between hypothalamic sub-regions are not close to the minimum possible distance, consistent with prior whole brain studies. However, if such distances are weighted by the inverse of the magnitude of the connectivity, their sum is among the lowest possible values. Specifically, the hypothalamus appears within the top 94th percentile of neural efficiencies of randomly packed configurations and within one standard deviation of the median efficiency when packings are optimized for maximal neural efficiency. The neocortex and striatum are topographically organized for sensory and motor functions. While sensory and motor areas are lateralized for touch and motor control, respectively, frontal areas are involved in decision-making, where lateralization of function may be less important. This study contrasted the topographic precision of cell-type-specific ipsilateral and contralateral cortical projections while varying the injection site location in transgenic mice of both sexes. While sensory cortical areas had strongly topographic outputs to the ipsilateral cortex and striatum, they were weaker and not as topographically precise to contralateral targets. The motor cortex had somewhat stronger projections but still relatively weak contralateral topography. In contrast, frontal cortical areas had high degrees of topographic similarity for both ipsilateral and contralateral projections to the cortex and striatum. Corticothalamic organization is mainly ipsilateral, with weaker, more medial contralateral projections. Corticostriatal computations might integrate input outside closed basal ganglia loops using contralateral projections, enabling the two hemispheres to act as a unit to converge on one result in motor planning and decision-making. To understand the phase behaviors of polyelectrolyte solutions, we provide two analytical methods to formulate a molecular equation of state for a system of fully charged polyanions (PAs) and polycations (PCs) in a monomeric neutral component, based on integral equation theories. The mixture is treated in a primitive and restricted manner. The first method utilizes Blum's approach to charged hard spheres, incorporating the chain connectivity contribution by charged spheres via Stell's cavity function method. The second method employs Wertheim's multi-density Ornstein–Zernike treatment of charged hard spheres with Baxter's adhesive potential. The pressures derived from these methods are compared to available molecular dynamics simulations data for a solution of PAs and monomeric counterions as a limiting case. Two-phase equilibrium for the system is calculated using both methods to evaluate the relative strength of phase segregation that leads to complex coacervation. The brain connectivity‐based atlas is a promising tool for understanding neural communication pathways in the brain, gaining relevance in predicting personalized outcomes for various brain pathologies. This critical review examines the robustness of the brain connectivity‐based atlas for predicting post‐stroke outcomes. A comprehensive literature search was conducted from 2012 to May 2023 across PubMed, Scopus, EMBASE, EBSCOhost, and Medline databases. Twenty‐one studies were screened, and through analysis of these studies, we identified 18 brain connectivity atlases employed by the studies for lesion analysis in their predictions. The brain atlases were assessed for study cohorts, connectivity measures, identified brain regions, atlas applications, and limitations. Based on the analysis of these studies, most atlases were based on diffusion tensor imaging and resting‐state functional magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Studies predicting post‐stroke functional outcomes relied on the atlases for multivariate lesion analysis and region of interest identification, often employing atlases derived from young, healthy populations. Current brain connectivity‐based atlases for stroke applications lack standardized methods to define and map brain connectivity across atlases and cover sensorimotor functional connectivity to a limited extent. In conclusion, this review highlights the need to develop more comprehensive, robust, and adaptable brain connectivity‐based atlases specifically tailored to post‐stroke populations. Depression is one of the most prevalent mental disorders worldwide. This study examined the effect of a spiritual connectivity intervention on individuals with depression in a randomized waitlist-controlled trial. Fifty-seven participants with mild or moderate depressive symptoms were randomly assigned to either the intervention group (n = 28) or the waitlist control group (n = 29). The intervention comprised eight weekly sessions focusing on divine connection, forgiveness and freedom, suffering and transcendence, hope, gratitude, and relapse prevention. The outcome measures included depressive symptoms, anxiety, hope, meaning in life, self-esteem, and social support. Participants completed self-administered questionnaires at baseline (week 0), post-intervention (week 8), and 3-month follow-up (week 20). Repeated-measures ANOVA and one-way ANCOVA were used to compare the within-group and between-group differences in the changes in outcome variables. Participants in the intervention group showed significant improvements in depression, anxiety, spiritual experience, hope, self-esteem, and perceived social support after the intervention. Effect size statistics showed small to large differences (Cohen's d, 0.308 to −1.452). Moreover, 85.71% of participants in the intervention group also experienced clinically significant reductions in PHQ-9 scores from baseline to immediate post-intervention. Winter flounder Pseudopleuronectes americanus (Walbaum 1792) are a coastal flatfish species of economic and cultural importance that have dwindled to <15, % of their historic abundance in the southern New England/Mid‐Atlantic region of the United States, with evidence indicating near‐extirpation of certain local populations. This species exhibits intricate behaviors in spawning and migration that contribute to population complexity and resilience. These behaviors encompass full or partial philopatry to natal estuaries, the generation of multiple pulses of larval delivery, and partial migration. The patterns of genetic diversity within and among estuaries and cohorts presented here carry important implications in understanding the susceptibility to demographic shocks, even if the full extent of genetic diversity within and among winter flounder stocks on the US East Coast remains unresolved. Our findings reveal connectivity between estuaries in Long Island, New York, suggesting the potential for genetic rescue of depleted subpopulations. Family reconstruction and relatedness analysis indicate that split cohorts and migration contingents are not the result of genetically distinct lineages. We found no evidence for genetic structure separating these groups, and in some instances, we were able to detect closely related individuals that belonged to different migratory contingents or cohorts. Characterizing the spatial and behavioral organization of this species at the population level is crucial for comprehending its potential for recovery, not only in terms of biomass but also in reinstating the complex population structure that supports resilience. The search for generality in winter flounder spawning and migration behavior remains elusive, but perhaps the lack of generalities within this species is what has allowed it to persist in the face of decades of environmental and anthropogenic stressors. This study aims to understand the connectivity characteristics of construction land during the spatial evolution of historic urban areas. The complex network analysis method is employed to examine the evolution of the spatial structure of construction land in the four periods of the Changsha historic urban area. The results indicate that the spatial network morphology of construction land follows a repeated development pattern resembling a cluster–mother–child relationship. Additionally, the vulnerability in the evolution of land use spatial relationships is very low, while the overall stability of the land use network structure decreases. The spatial equilibrium of land use shows a downwards trend, the accessibility of land where existing cultural relics and historic sites are located is generally moderate to low, and some plots require improvement. In the evolution of connectivity in the construction land of historic urban areas, the main development challenges are the uneven growth caused by imbalanced land value influenced by capital and the need to balance the preservation of land use patterns with improved accessibility to cultural relics and historic sites. There is widespread evidence that plants can facilitate associated species through microclimate moderation. These effects can act locally, by increasing vital rates via direct effects on the conditions experienced by the beneficiary, or at the landscape scale, by enhancing population persistence via environmental heterogeneity and connectivity. Despite linkages between microclimate moderation and the consequences of climate change, few frameworks apply the concepts of facilitation, connectivity, and heterogeneity through this lens. We highlight the utility of expanding current research on facilitators to better understand how their ability to buffer abiotic conditions, promote heterogeneity, and enhance connectivity could shape beneficiaries' response to climate change at multiple scales. We additionally suggest tools and methods for enhanced incorporation of facilitators into models of species response, centered around the integration of facilitator‐moderated microclimates and species responses with the goal of better defining the scenarios under which facilitators could mitigate the effects of climate change. As climates continue to change, the consequences of microclimate moderation at local and landscape scales will become increasingly important to predict, understand, and manage biodiversity response. Dispersal is a complex series of movements before an individual establishes a home range. Animals must travel and forage in unfamiliar landscapes that include anthropogenic risks such as road crossings, harvest, and urban landscapes. We compare dispersal behavior of juvenile mountain lions (Puma concolor) from two geographically distinct populations in California and Nevada, USA. These two sites are ecologically similar but have different management practices; hunting is permitted in Nevada, whereas mountain lions are protected in California. We used GPS‐collar data and net‐squared displacement analysis to identify three dispersal states: exploratory, departure, and transient home range. We then compared each dispersal state of the two mountain lion populations using an integrated step selection analysis (iSSA). The model included explanatory variables hypothesized to influence one or more dispersal states, including distance to forest, shrub, water, hay and crop, developed lands, and four‐wheel drive roads, as well as elevation and terrain ruggedness. Results revealed consistent habitat selection between sites across most landscape variables, with one notable exception: anthropogenic covariates, including distance to developed land, distance to hay and crop, and distance to four‐wheeled drive roads, were only statistically significant on modeled habitat selection during dispersal in the population subject to hunting (i.e., Nevada). Results suggest that hunting (pursuit with hounds resulting in harvest) and non‐lethal pursuit (pursuit with hounds but no harvest allowed) increase avoidance of anthropogenic landscapes during dispersal for juvenile mountain lions. The insula is often considered the fifth lobe of the brain and is increasingly recognized as one of the most connected regions in the brain, with widespread connections to cortical and subcortical structures. As a follow-up to our previous tractography work, we investigated the resting-state functional connectivity (rsFC) profiles of insular subregions and assessed their concordance with structural connectivity. We used the CONN toolbox to analyze the rsFC of the same 19 insular regions of interest (ROIs) we used in our prior tractography work and regrouped them into six subregions based on their connectivity pattern similarity. Our analysis of 50 healthy participants confirms the known broad connectivity of the insula and shows novel and specific whole-brain and intra-connectivity patterns of insular subregions. Objective biomarkers have been a critical challenge for the field of psychiatry, where diagnostic, prognostic, and theranostic assessments are still based on subjective narratives. Psychopathology operates with idiographic knowledge and subjective evaluations incorporated into clinical assessment inventories, but is considered to be a medical discipline and, as such, uses medical intervention methods (e.g., pharmacological, ECT; rTMS; tDCS) and, therefore, is supposed to operate with the language and methods of nomothetic networks. The idiographic assessments are provisionally "quantified" into "structured clinical scales" to in some way resemble nomothetic measures. Instead of fostering data merging and integration, this approach further encapsulates the clinical psychiatric methods, as all other biological tests (molecular, neuroimaging) are performed separately, only after the clinical assessment has provided diagnosis. Translational cross-validation of clinical assessment instruments and fMRI is an attempt to address the gap. The aim of this approach is to investigate whether there exist common and specific neural circuits, which underpin differential item responses to clinical self-rating scales during fMRI sessions in patients suffering from the two main spectra of mental disorders: schizophrenia and major depression. Background: Performing transopercular frontal approaches to the insula, widely used in glioma surgeries, necessitates a meticulous understanding of both cortical and subcortical neuroanatomy. This precision is vital for preserving essential structures and accurately interpreting the results of direct electrical stimulation. Nevertheless, acquiring a compelling mental image of the anatomy of this region can be challenging due to several factors, among which stand out its complexity and the fact that white matter fasciculi are imperceptible to the naked eye in the living brain. Aim: In an effort to optimize the study of the anatomy relevant to this topic, we performed a procedure-guided laboratory study using subpial dissection, fiber dissection, vascular coloration, and stereoscopic photography in a "real-life" surgical perspective. Methods: Nine cerebral specimens obtained from body donation were extracted and fixed in formalin. Colored silicone injection and a variant of Klinglers's technique were used to demonstrate vascular and white matter structures, respectively. We dissected and photographed the specimens in a supero-antero-lateral view to reproduce the surgeon's viewpoint. The anatomy related to the development of the surgical corridor and resection cavity was documented using both standard photography and the red-cyan anaglyph technique. Results: The anatomy of frontal transopercular approaches to the insula involved elements of different natures—leptomeningeal, cortical, vascular, and fascicular—combining in the surgical field in a complex disposition. The disposition of these structures was successfully demonstrated through the aforementioned anatomical techniques. Among the main structures in or around the surgical corridor, the orbital, triangular, and opercular portions of the inferior frontal gyrus are critical landmarks in the cortical stage, as well as the leptomeninges of the Sylvian fissure and the M2–M4 branches of the middle cerebral artery in the subpial dissection stage, and the inferior fronto-occipital, uncinate and arcuate fasciculi, and the corona radiata in establishing the deep limits of resection. Conclusions: Procedure-guided study of cerebral hemispheres associating subpial, vascular, and fiber dissection from a surgical standpoint is a powerful tool for the realistic study of the surgical anatomy relevant to frontal transopercular approaches to the insula. The neurocardiac circuit is integral to physiological regulation of threat and trauma-related responses. However, few direct investigations of brain-behavior associations with replicable physiological markers of PTSD have been conducted. The current study probed the neurocardiac circuit by examining associations among its core regions in the brain (e.g., insula, hypothalamus) and the periphery (heart rate [HR], high frequency heart rate variability [HF-HRV], and blood pressure [BP]). We sought to characterize these associations and to determine whether there were differences by PTSD status. Participants were N = 315 (64.1 % female) trauma-exposed adults enrolled from emergency departments as part of the prospective AURORA study. Participants completed a deep phenotyping session (e.g., fear conditioning, magnetic resonance imaging) two weeks after emergency department admission. Voxelwise analyses revealed several significant interactions between PTSD severity 8-weeks posttrauma and psychophysiological recordings on hypothalamic connectivity to the prefrontal cortex (PFC), insula, superior temporal sulcus, and temporoparietaloccipital junction. Among those with PTSD, diastolic BP was directly correlated with right insula-hypothalamic connectivity, whereas the reverse was found for those without PTSD. PTSD status moderated the association between systolic BP, HR, and HF-HRV and hypothalamic connectivity in the same direction. While preliminary, our findings may suggest that individuals with higher PTSD severity exhibit compensatory neural mechanisms to down-regulate autonomic imbalance. Additional study is warranted to determine how underlying mechanisms (e.g., inflammation) may disrupt the neurocardiac circuit and increase cardiometabolic disease risk in PTSD. Identifying areas expected to remain buffered from climate change and maintain biodiversity and ecological function (i.e., climate refugia) is important for climate adaptation planning. As structurally diverse transitional zones between terrestrial and aquatic environments, riparian areas are often biological hotspots and provide critical corridors for species movement, particularly in arid and semi‐arid regions. In our study region in the western and central USA, identifying riparian areas that could serve as climate refugia is a priority for wildlife managers. We mapped areas with connected riparian habitats that, based on landscape diversity and projected changes in summer temperatures and landscape runoff, are expected to serve as climate refugia. To incorporate uncertainty and balance the need for near‐ and long‐term planning, we mapped potential refugia for 2 future time periods (2040–2069, 2070–2099) based on 2 climate models that represented divergent but plausible climate outcomes. The approach we developed is not constrained by physiology or behavior of target species and can be used to identify areas expected to fare comparatively well under a wide range of future climate scenarios. Aim: Synthesize literature on genetic structure within species to understand how geographic features and species traits influence past responses to climate change. Location: North America. Time Period: We synthesized phylogeographic studies from 1978 to 2023, which describe genetic lineages that diverged during the Pleistocene (≥11,700 years ago). Major Taxa Studied: Mammals. Methods: We conducted a literature review to map genetic breaks in species distributions, then tested a set of geographic hypotheses (e.g., mountains, rivers) to explain their position by comparing break locations to a grid within each species' sampled range using logistic regression. We then conducted a meta‐analysis using species‐specific model estimates to ask if life‐history traits explained variation in which barriers were most important in species' past response to climate change. Results: Our findings reveal heterogeneity in both where North American mammal phylogeography has been studied and the density of genetic breaks across 229 species. We found relatively high concordance among carnivores, ungulates and lagomorphs, where breaks were associated with mountains, major water bodies and relatively even terrain. In contrast, we found high variability within rodents and shrews, and no evidence that intrinsic factors related to dispersal ability explained the importance of hypothesized barriers across all species. Main Conclusions: Southern Mexico is a hotspot for genetic breaks that has yet to be integrated into the broader story of North American phylogeography. We show that mountains and major water bodies play particularly important roles as barriers, but substantial variation across species within orders suggests that there is more to the story besides shared climatic or phylogenetic histories. Thus, understanding the phylogeography of individual species will continue to be important given that our results suggest high variability in how species may respond to future global change. Aim: Quaternary climatic shifts can explain the current distribution of ancient ecosystems as well as the current distributions of gradients that hold species richness and diversity of several lineages in old, climatically buffered, infertile landscapes (OCBILs) as inselbergs. Thus, the combination of phylogenetic approaches and temporal landscape connectivity allows disentangling the mechanisms involved in the origin of the disjunct distribution of plant species and the evolutionary heritage of Neotropical inselbergs. Location: Brazilian Atlantic Forest and Caatinga. Time Period: Pliocene until the current period. Major Taxa: Angiosperms. Methods: We used a compiled data set of 42 inselbergs across the Atlantic Forest and Caatinga biomes in eastern Brazil to describe their structure and phylogenetic diversity and map the landscape resistance distances and the effects of resistance on their phylogenetic beta diversity. We also aimed to identify the effectiveness of protected areas and gaps in the conservation of plant species in Brazilian inselbergs. Results: We found evidence of dispersal limitation in the inselberg species pool and a latitudinal gradient in plant species richness and phylogenetic diversity across the Neotropical inselberg landscape, with greater isolation between the northeastern and southeastern core areas. Our findings indicate that inselbergs can lead to a high turnover of phylogenetic diversity, thus imposing distinctiveness on the evolutionary lineages of the inselberg flora. Main Conclusions: Our results suggest that the current distribution of inselberg's flora in isolated ecosystems may result from a more connected distribution of this flora in the past, as postulated by the Pleistocene habitat fluctuations. However, the patterns of diversity have probably been influenced by events much older than Quaternary climate shifts, due to inselbergs climate stability areas (refugia) since ancient periods. Brain mechanisms underlying creativity are largely unknown and few studies have involved exceptionally creative individuals. We examined functional MRI (fMRI) connectivity in a "smart comparison group" (SCG; n = 24), and in exceptionally creative ("Big C") visual artists (VIS; n = 21) and scientists (SCI; n = 21). Groups were matched on age, sex, and estimated IQ. FMRI scans were acquired during the resting-state and performance of two tasks: (a) alternative uses test (AUT), putatively measuring divergent thinking; and (b) remote associates test (RAT), putatively engaging convergent thinking. Graph theory measures of functional connectivity were compared across groups using generalized linear mixed models. Global connectivity measures included small-worldness (indexing efficiency), clustering coefficient, and characteristic path length. Local connectivity measures included local efficiency and clustering coefficients within default mode, dorsal attention, frontoparietal, salience, ventral attention, and visual networks. During the resting-state, global small-worldness was lower for SCI than SCG; VIS had intermediate values. Relative to SCG, the Big C groups had higher local clustering coefficients during the resting-state conditions but lower local clustering during the AUT condition. No significant differences were found during the convergent thinking test (RAT). These findings suggest that Big C creativity is associated with more "random" rather than more "efficient" global network functional architecture, with condition-dependent variations in local clustering and efficiency. Large condition-dependent correlations between global and local clustering measures deserve further examination in exceptionally creative and other groups to more fully characterize the functional topology of brain networks most relevant to creativity. The study aims to develop an analytical framework for assessing cycling infrastructure from adolescents' safety perspectives, facilitating the prioritisation of areas based on effectiveness and existing conditions. Through an online survey (n = 323), we explored the perceived safety of Australian adolescents with different types of cycling lanes. The majority of survey participants prefer physically separated or protected cycleways. However, only 8.8% of the adolescent population in Greater Sydney has continuous cycleways to their catchment high-schools through these types of cycleways. Our study found a larger number of adolescents (28.1%) have access to nearby parks via safe cycleways. Although this difference appears to be due to the greater number of parks available, it could potentially contribute to significantly higher rates of recreational cycling participation in Sydney. This study also introduces an evaluation metric that combines the composite cycleway connectivity index, adolescent population density, and home-to-school distances to assist high-level selection and prioritisation of future infrastructure projects aimed at promoting active school travel. • A framework to assess cycling infrastructure from adolescents' safety perspective, aiding investment prioritisation. • Most adolescents prefer separate or protected cycleways, but limited access exists in Greater Sydney, Australia. • An evaluation metric for assessing adolescent cycling infrastructure was introduced at the school catchment area level.
