Introduction: The marine economy has played an important role in stabilizing national economic growth and ensuring economic security. Achieving high-quality and sustainable development of the marine economy is a strategic task for China to build a maritime power. Confronting various risk factors such as financial crises, natural disasters, geopolitical conflicts, industrial transformation, and public health security, etc., marine economic resilience (MER) has received widespread attention in recent years and is considered to be crucial for high-quality and sustainable development of the marine economy. Methods: This study takes 11 coastal provinces in China as cases, integrates 6 condition variables by building a Resistance capability-Recovery capability-Renewal capability (3R) configuration model, and uses the fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis (fsQCA) approach to empirically explore the configuration effect between multiple land factors and MER. Results and discussion: (1) None of the 6 conditions in the three dimensions of resistance capability, recovery capability, and renewal capability alone constitute the necessary conditions for strong or weak MER, indicating that a single condition has weak explanatory power for MER; (2) There are two configurations for strong MER: Strong Resistance-Recovery Type and Comprehensive Strong Type. Industrial structure, governmental capability, and digital economy are the core conditions for strong MER configurations; (3) There are four weak MER configurations: Comprehensive Weak Type, Weak Recovery-Renewal Type, Weak Resistance-Recovery Type I, and Weak Resistance-Recovery Type II. This studymay expand the research scope of MER influencing factors and enriching the research perspective of land-sea integration, as well as providing decision-makers with practical policy implications. IntroductionOvarian cancer is one of the three most common gynecological cancers, with the highest mortality rate among gynecological malignancies. Previous studies on the environmental and socioeconomic (ESE) factors that affect ovarian cancer incidence (OCI) have generally only considered the net effects of single variables, while the synergistic effects among multiple factors have yet to be explored.MethodsBased on a sample of 30 provinces in Mainland China, an ESE configuration model was constructed in this study, using a fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis approach to empirically explore the configuration effects of multiple ESE factors on OCI.Results(1) Education, marriage, income, insurance, urbanization, and environment alone do not constitute the necessary conditions for high or low OCI, indicating a need to comprehensively consider the configuration effects of these six conditions. (2) There are two configurations for high OCI: “configuration of environmental pollution under low socioeconomic development” and “configuration of insurance deficiency under high socioeconomic development.” (3) There are two configurations for low OCI: “configuration of insurance adequacy under low socioeconomic development” and “configuration of insurance adequacy under low urbanization.”ConclusionThe main contribution of this study is its focus on the configuration mechanism of ESE factors, enhancing understanding of the synergistic effects among the multiple factors that affect OCI. The study also provides valuable policy implications for decision-makers to formulate comprehensive health policies for the prevention and treatment of ovarian cancer.

Based on system theory and the configuration perspective, this study uses the panel data-based qualitative comparison (PD-QCA) method in R and the panel data of the energy systems of China and the ‘Belt and Road’ countries from 1998 to 2020 to analyze the driving factors that affect the green development of energy systems in various countries and the configuration effect on the vertical axis of time and its synergistic promotion path. The research results show that： (1) the driving factors for the green development of the energy systems in various countries are characterized by multiple synergies and the same goals. Factors such as the energy supply side, demand side and basic development level cannot be the necessary conditions for the green development of the energy structure alone, and it is necessary to give full play to the synergy among various factors; (2) in the sufficiency analysis, seven configuration paths are found for collaboratively driving the green development of the energy system, which can be further refined into energy supply-driven, supply-demand-driven, demand-technology-driven and supply-demand-technology-driven paths; (3) capital input, the labour supply level, government support, technological innovation and the environmental regulation level constitute the core driving factors of the green development of energy systems, and there is a potential substitution relationship between capital input and environmental regulation levels.；(4) In the temporal dimension, the Chow breakpoint test verified that the countries along the “Belt and Road Initiative” had a sense of green development to energy after 2013; in the spatial dimension, the implementation effects of each collaborative path showed obvious regional applicability differences.

Focusing on 50 representative Chinese cities and applying the ecosystem theory of the business environment, this study employs the fuzzy set qualitative comparative analysis (fsQCA) method to detect the synergistic mechanisms through which the business environment ecosystem of cities affects the manufacturing upgrading. The findings show: First, none of elements in the business environment ecosystem alone could constitute the necessary condition for high manufacturing upgrading. Second, there are three paths for the configuration of high-level manufacturing upgrading, which can be summarized into two modes: "public & innovation" driven mode, and "public & market" driven mode. Third, there are six paths in the configuration of low-level manufacturing upgrading, which can be summarized into three modes: "government & innovation" restricted mode, "human & market" restricted mode, and "government & high rule of law" restricted mode. Furthermore, there is an asymmetrical relationship with the configurations of high manufacturing upgrading performance. Finally, under certain conditions, there are substitutive relationships between elements in the business environment. Overall, this work contributes to the literature on the synergistic mechanisms of business environment ecosystems, and provides practical information for manufacturing firms pursuing upgrading from multiple paths. The digital era leads the digital transformation of firms to become a significant way to drive innovation. However, the existing research has not deeply discussed how digitalisation empowering firm innovation breaks the game. Through configuration thinking and holistic perspective, using technology-organisation-environment (TOE) framework, this study explores the multiple concurrent factors of digitalisation empowering firm innovation. Based on the cases of 30 Chinese high-tech firms, this study investigates the configuration effect of six important factors on firm innovation ability by fuzzy set qualitative comparative analysis (fsQCA). The results show that three conditional configurations or innovation paths can contribute to high firm innovation ability, namely technology-organisation driven innovation, organisation led innovation and comprehensive collaborative innovation. Among them, digital infrastructure is the underlying support for digitalisation empowering firm innovation, and cross-boundary cooperation plays a key role in such innovation. Patent commercialisation in the age of knowledge economy shows unique features, such as involving more diverse participants, requiring a more rapid flow of innovation resources and a more inclusive innovation environment. Hence, it is necessary to consider the causal complexity of patent commercialisation from a macro-perspective. Based on the regional innovation ecosystem (RIE) theory, this paper uses qualitative comparative analysis (QCA) to explore the paths to realise patent commercialisation, with 31 provinces in China as samples. The findings pinpoint that the paths to realise patent commercialisation are different according to the enrichment or scarcity of elements in RIEs. Particularly, for RIEs with wholly enriched elements, it is crucial to avoid the loss of elements and retain competitiveness on patent commercialisation; for RIEs with partially enriched elements, it is crucial to supplement elements with scarcity; for RIEs with wholly scarce elements, the primary task is to cultivate its innovation ecosystem, instead of promoting patent commercialisation. Numerous vanadium–titania composites have drawn significant interest as efficient photocatalysts for the photocatalytic oxidation of alcohols into valuable aldehydes or C–C coupling compound intermediates. In this comparative study, the photocatalytic potential of two conformations of vanadium–titania catalysts was analyzed, including a vanadium–titania solid solution of VTiOx and vanadium oxide supported on titania VOx/TiO2. The distinct structural interfaces among the components of these catalysts resulted in notably divergent catalytic performances. The VTiOx catalyst is superior to the corresponding supported VOx/TiO2 catalysts in the photo-oxidation of benzyl alcohol. The vanadium incorporated into the titania lattice influences surface oxygen vacancy defects, examined by a series of technologies, thus distinctly improving the photocatalytic activity. The experimental phenomena supported with density functional theory (DFT) studies indicate that incorporating V into the TiO2 lattice can effectively lower the activation energy for the lattice oxygen, thereby improving the generation and repair of oxygen vacancies and thus promoting photo-oxidation. To investigate the net and configuration effects of human, social, and psychological capital on college students' career adaptability. 312 college students were investigated with human capital scale, social capital scale, psychological capital scale, and career adaptability scale. The results demonstrated the following: (1) The net effect showed that psychological capital had the greatest effect on career adaptability, followed by human and social capital. (2) The configuration effect identified four configurations for achieving high-level career adaptability, which reflected the causal asymmetry. The study showed that psychological capital is the most important variable affecting career adaptability, followed by human and social capital. [Purpose/Significance] Emotional experience is a purely subjective feeling of the interaction between users and products. Exploring user participation behavior and influencing factors in online health communities under the influence of user emotional experience has obvious significance for retaining users. [Method/Process] A total of 25 users of the online health platform were selected as the research objects. The semi-structured interview method was used, and the basic information of the interviewees was combined with the questionnaire. With the help of grounded theory, the original interview data were coded, and the factors influencing user participation in online health communities were analyzed. Then, the emotional experience and feedback mechanism model of user participation in online health communities was constructed by combining the "emotion-cognitive recursive model". Finally, effective cases were screened from the questionnaire, and the configuration of the influencing factors of user participation behavior and affective feedback was explored based on the principle of qualitative comparative analysis and calculation of fuzzy sets. [Results/Conclusions] Through the grounded theory coding, six factors affecting user participation behavior are obtained: risk perception, platform cognition, demand motivation, platform experience, user emotion and environment. Then combined with the cognitive-affective model, the seven main categories derived from the rooted coding were divided into three dimensions: cognitive assessment, affective experience and participatory behavior. The feedback mechanism of emotional experience after participating behavior is further studied. It is found that the cognitive evaluation including risk perception, platform cognition and demand motivation affects the emotional experience of users, thus affecting their actual participation behavior. In the process of user participation in online health community, the factors of cognitive assessment, emotional experience and participation behavior interact with each other, and have a two-way effect on user participation behavior and user cognitive assessment. Further verification by fuzzy set qualitative comparative analysis (fsQCA) shows that among the six factors affecting user participation behavior, platform experience and demand motivation are the core conditions affecting user participation in online health community, and the three single factor variables of user emotion, environment and platform cognition do not necessarily affect the generation of user participation behavior. The extraction of influencing factors and the definition of user behavior are not comprehensive, and some real variables and key engagement behaviors may be overlooked. In addition, there is an imbalance in the number of samples on each platform. Follow-up related research can improve the pertinence of the platform and expand the sample capacity.

The goals and transformation of sustainable urban development require fundamental innovation; however, urban innovation is a cyclical process, the paradigm of innovation itself needs to be dramatically transformed, and all innovation key elements need to be coordinated with each other to achieve sustainable urban outputs. Based on this, this paper uses the absorptive capacity theory to construct a model of the relationships between the acquisition dimension, digestion dimension, conversion dimension, utilization dimension, and sustainable development in the innovation process of smart cities and uses the fuzzy set qualitative comparative analysis (FSQCA) method to investigate the configuration mechanism in depth to show how the innovation process of these cities affects their sustainable development, taking the top 72 cities in China in terms of innovation capacity in 2020 as the research objects. The results of the study form three complex configuration paths that affect sustainable urban development, centered on the transformation of technological achievements, innovation management drive, and smart cities, and reveal that the economic and market foundations as the dimensions of urban innovation acquisition are not the core conditions for sustainable urban development. Based on this, this study develops a configuration classification for innovative cities that can achieve sustainable development, i.e., industrial paths, governance paths, and technology paths, and proposes strategic directions for sustainable urban innovation development. The optimization of the business environment helps to create a good market ecological environment and promote industrial development. Based on the theory of institutional complexity, this study constructs the evaluation index system of China's urban business environment and analyzes the influencing factors using the NCA method. It is found that there is no necessary condition for a single element to constitute the high-level development of the tourism industry, but improving public service, total market volume, and innovation environment play universal roles in promoting the high-level development of the tourism industry. Using fsQCA for configuration analysis, two business environment configuration paths with high-level development of the tourism industry are obtained, which shows that there is no single path to promote the development of the tourism industry. In addition, the antecedent paths of high- and low-level tourism industry development are not the opposite, presenting an asymmetric causal relationship. The above findings reveal the realization path of the business environment for the development of China's urban tourism industry. In practice, technological innovation has increasingly become an important means for enterprises to cope with global competition and obtain sustainable development. An increasing number of companies are relying on supply chain resources in the technology development process. Based on the framework of knowledge resource orchestration and the survey data of Tier 1 and Tier 2 suppliers in China's automotive industry, this study comprehensively analyzed the influencing factors of technological innovations in supply chain enterprises. The analysis of the research by the Bootstrapping method found that supply chain relationship quality (SCRQ) positively impacts corporate technological innovations, in which knowledge sharing and knowledge integration play a dual mediating role. The investigation of the fuzzy set qualitative comparative analysis (fsQCA) revealed that individual elements do not constitute a necessary condition for high-tech innovations in supply chain firms. Mutual commitment among supply chain members plays a more pervasive role in generating high-tech innovations. The term "reinforced soil" refers to a composite material with high tensile-strength components that enhance the soil's tensile strength. One of the most common kinds of geosynthetic fabric utilized for soil reinforcement is geotextiles. This article investigates woven geotextile's potential benefits in enhancing the maximum loadcarrying capacity of footings resting upon silty sand soil. The foundation was constructed of a 10 mm thick strong carbon steel plate of 100 mm×100 mm. The factors examined in this research were the first geotextile layer's depth, the geotextile layer's width, the number of layers of reinforcing material, and the vertical spacing between geotextile layers. The impact of geotextile strengthening configurations on the loadcarrying capacity of strengthened soil foundations was also studied. The results of the experiments indicated that geotextile reinforced soil could help to grow the soil bearing capacity. The testing findings revealed that the system with three geotextile layers, 0.25B vertical distance among geotextile layers, and a geotextile width of 5B, B denotes the plate's width, achieves the most significant bearing capacity. The test findings also revealed that the reinforcement configuration greatly impacted the reinforced silty sand on the foundation's behavior. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Enterprise innovation (EI) has become an important means to promote the sustainable development of enterprises in the new era. This study aims to explore the multiple concurrent factors and causal complex mechanism of the configuration effect of five conditions in the environmental and organizational levels and their influence on the differences in EI activity. Taking 20 information technology enterprises as case samples, this study uses the qualitative comparative analysis method of fuzzy sets. The main conclusions are as follows: (1) The ability to identify opportunity is the necessary condition affecting the high innovation activity of enterprises; the lack of internal innovation culture, the low innovation activity. (2) The driving mechanism of high EI activity can be divided into three paths, and the different configurations of the five factors can produce many paths to achieve such activity. (3) The driving mechanism of low EI activity can be divided into two paths, and it has an asymmetric causal relationship with the driving mechanism of high EI activity. This study is helpful in expanding the innovation perspective of environment and organization matching. Entrepreneurial activities constitute a critical antecedent to urban innovation (UI), which reflects the levels of innovation and creation activities in cities and is strongly related to their economic development. Existing research on UI focuses on the net effects of individual explanatories in isolation while leaving the synergistic effects between these factors under-examined. Drawing from the entrepreneurial ecosystem (EE) theory, we constructed an entrepreneurial ecosystem composed of market, finance, human capital, internet access, transportation, and government, adopting the fuzzy set qualitative comparative analysis (fsQCA) of 34 representative cities in China to analyze the combined effects of multiple elements underpinned UI. Consequently, the following findings were observed. First, no single entrepreneurial ecosystem element constitutes a necessary condition for a high UI level. Second, large markets and well-designed government services correspond well to high UI levels. Third, the lack of mature transportation and a large market lead to a non-high level. Diffusion behavior of narrow fractions of three residues and subfractions of a residue through four polycarbonate membranes was investigated using a diaphragm cell at 308 K. The results show that the diffusivities of fractions with similar molecular weight behaved differently. Comparisons among SAR subfractions (saturates, aromatics, and resins) of the same fraction show that saturates has the largest diffusion coefficient, followed by aromatics, and then resins. The diffusion coefficients of fractions fall among that of their subfractions. The regular variation of diffusivity along with the properties for fractions with similar molecular weight is an indication of the difference in their diffusivities resulting from the difference in their compositions and structures. Hindrance factors of the subfractions through membranes with small pores have a similar variation trend as their diffusion coefficients. The hindrance factors of the feedstocks in 50 and 80 nm pore size membranes are mostly larger than 0.90, but the values in 15 nm membranes range from 0.55 to 0.81. The study not only indicates that the diffusional limitations are significant in pores with the typical hydrotreating catalyst size but composition and configuration have an effect on the hindered diffusion of residue molecules. © 2012 American Institute of Chemical Engineers AIChE J, 59: 1369-1377, 2013 [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The article discusses a study on the effective diffusion coefficients of five supercritical fluid extraction and fractionation (SFEF) cuts for Athabasca oil sand bitumen vacuum residue (AVR) which were measured by a diaphragm diffusion cell using polycarbonate membranes. The residue was obtained from the Syncrude oilsand plant in Fort McMurray, Alberta. It indicates that the diffusion of AVR molecules is hindered across pores of typical hydrotreating catalysts and that the hindred degree of the five SFEF cuts is larger than the predicted value.
