The objectives of this study is to analyze a large amount of data that often appears to create a knowledge base that can be utilized by firm to enhance their decision support system. The authors used the association rules with rapid miner software, data mining approach, and predictive analysis that contains various data exploration scenarios. The study provides important evidence for adopting data mining methods in the industrial sector and their advantages and disadvantages. Currently, a numerous errors often occur due to the accuracy in computer maintenance which has a major impact on production results. Purpose The purpose of this paper is to investigate the cause–effect relationship between vocational support and the levels of acquisition of practical skills via learning self-efficacy during a training intervention in computer maintenance technology among vocational electronic technology students. Design/methodology/approach Quasi-experimental research was employed. The participants were 84 undergraduates of vocational electronic technology education in Nigeria. The study applied the modified stages of the Dreyfus model of skills acquisition as the training model. The study proposed a four-simple mediation models based on the first four stages of the modified Dreyfus model of skills acquisition (namely, novice, advanced beginner, competent and proficient stages) via practical skills learning self-efficacy. Findings The result showed significant effects of perceived vocational support in practical skills training on the levels of acquisition of practical skills in computer maintenance technology. Learning self-efficacy mediated the relationship between perceived vocational support and three levels of practical skills acquisition (advanced beginner, competent and proficient). Research limitations/implications All possible mediation pathways were not covered in this study. However, the study x-rayed the tendency of pathways in training intervention in vocational education and allied fields of study. Practical implications This study has empirically provided evidence to support the Dreyfus model of skills acquisition, as a plausible practical skills training model. Hence, the study can serve as a model for other researchers for replication in other fields of study. Originality/value To the authors’ knowledge, this is the first study that revealed potential pathways in work-related practical skills training interventions. The study has also validated the Dreyfus model as a potential skill acquisition model for practical skills training.

Quite a few computer users who lack sufficient knowledge of handling hardware damage result in a computer or an institution that spends no small amount of money just to repair damage to computer hardware. Therefore the application of the damage monitoring system on the RaharjaCollege Lab computer was made to help monitor computer users in detecting damage to computer hardware along with solutions to deal with the damage. With the problem of damage to the computer Lab at Raharja College, each Laboratory consists of 5 laboratories each Laboratory computer, each class has 30 computers and a total of 150 computers. The current system is still using a manual inspection system using media laboratory computer damage checklist. Therefore, in improving maintenance services in the Lab, an application system should be developed that supports the accuracy and accuracy of the maintenance lab so that it can assist technicians in monitoring the lab, both software and hardware.

In the recent time, utility tunnel has been operated via computer maintenance management systems (CMMS) or building automation systems (BAS). However, CMMS or BAS lack of convenient visualization and interoperability. This paper aims to propose an integrated system of building information modelling (BIM) and geographic information system (GIS) to improve the performance of current maintenance management system. A system framework of BIM-3DGIS is proposed and required maintenance management functions are also developed based on practice demands. A real case of utility tunnel is used to demonstrate the system. Two scenarios and a questionnaire survey are conducted to validate the applicability and practicability. Results show that the proposed BIM-3DGIS system can ensure effective maintenance works and have well potential applications.

Este trabalho possui como objetivo, apresentar as possibilidades e os limites da materialização dos pressupostos do Ensino Médio Integrado no contexto da Prática Profissional Integrada (PPI), a partir da análise do desenvolvimento e da elaboração de produtos pelos estudantes do terceiro ano de um curso técnico em Manutenção e Suporte em Informática, do Instituto Federal Farroupilha/RS Campus de São Vicente do Sul. A metodologia utilizada neste estudo foi de cunho qualitativo, caracterizando-se enquanto pesquisa-ação. Esta ação da PPI foi dividida em quatro etapas: 1) planejamento inicial com os professores; 2) apresentação e sensibilização aos alunos; 3) construção pelos alunos dos produtos, a partir do uso de resíduos eletrônicos; 4) a exposição destes produtos no Dia de Campo, o qual é destinado à comunidade externa. Entre os resultados obtidos, destaca-se o comprometimento entre os alunos e professores envolvidos, a interdisciplinaridade alcançada, criticidade e a potencialidade da própria proposta da PPI como articulador entre a formação humana integral, educação omnilateral e a politecnia.

With the rapid development of transportation technology, the application of railway transportation is more and more widely, which has become an important livelihood project. Therefore, we need the railway department to continuously strengthen the maintenance work of Railway public Works (hereinafter referred to as RPW) technology. Compared with the operation efficiency of railway, the operation efficiency of common speed line is higher, which requires us to strengthen and improve the maintenance management of common speed line. Through computer technology, the railway department can fully implement the mode of “maintenance and repair”, which will avoid the current situation of high wear and tear of heavy haul railway. By gradually improving the maintenance level, we can improve the equipment support ability, which has a certain promotion value for the railway line workshop maintenance. First of all, this paper analyzes the key points of RPW maintenance, and then, this paper analyzes the construction of comprehensive data platform of RPW maintenance plan. Finally, some suggestions are put forward.

The major issues discussed in this paper are related to the problem that teachers teaching history lessons are teachers who are less skilled in handling the computer for teaching sessions. In addition, there are other constraints constrained such as inefficient computer maintenance systems and adequate of computer room in schools . The above issues are one of the causes that causes historical teachers not to use Web 2.0 in History. The rapid development of computer technology in hardware, is currently developing non-volatile computer storage media Solid State Drive (SSD). SSD technology has a faster data access speed than Hard Disk and is currently starting to replace Hard Disk storage media. Freezing software on computer systems is often carried out by computer technicians, because it can save a computer maintenance costs due to errors, be exposed to computer viruses or malware. This software is used to prevent unwanted changes to the computer system, when the computer is restarted changes that occur in the computer system will not be stored on storage media. When this happens, what should be done by digital forensic investigators. This study discusses experimental forensic investigations on SSD media storage with frozen conditions or in this study said the frozen SSD. Frozen SSD is the condition of the drive that is locked so that there is no change in the computer system. Software used to lock and prevent changes such as Deep Freeze, Shadow Defender, Windows Steady State, and Toolwiz Time Freeze. Forensic research stages using methods NIST. The result shows that from comparative analysis conducted with Deep Freeze the results of the RecoverMyFile gives 76.38% and Autopsy gives 75,27%, while frozen condition with Shadow Defender the results of the RecoverMyFile gives 59.72% and Autopsy gives 74.44%. So the results of this study indicate the drive freezing software has an effect obtained can be an obstacle in the digital forensic process.

For large network communication equipment are in need of real time computer maintenance and management, the traditional manual management can't meet this need, so this paper designs a set of real-time data acquisition, intelligent alarm and remote control, large computer room environment monitoring system based on Zigbee. The system is composed of terminal monitoring subsystem, control subsystem and management terminal. The terminal monitoring system consists of ZigBee node through the network, and its data acquisition include temperature, humidity and smoke environmental data; MSP430F1611 and Ethernet module monitoring subsystem are responsible for packet analysis, Ethernet connection, and Web intelligent remote switch control when monitoring data reaches a threshold. The system also can be used in street lamp remote intelligent control, intelligent irrigation control system of greenhouse vegetables and so on. Therefore, it has good application value.

To realize the maintenance management system in the near future, this paper presents a development of on-line computer maintenance system to manage and record the maintenance information in the database for the plastic injection machines by utilizing the computer networks via the wireless system. The on-line computer maintenance management system is friendly use and easy to check the equipment problems, the production wastes and the production efficiency via the mobile phones and also the computer networks. Whenever a malfunction happens, the alert message will be sent to the operator and the maintenance manager to respond it immediately. In addition, the developed energy management function by selecting the heater insulator and reducing the mold clamping pressure can help to calculate the energy consumption, the breakeven point and the payback period which have not been done in the computer maintenance management system. The developed program can automatically generate the next schedule of the preventive maintenance, which leads to the higher efficiency. The developed system is examined and implemented in the plastic injection machines, which have never been used the on-line computer maintenance management system. It has been proved that the proposed and developed system increases the overall equipment effectiveness about 6.42% and the mean time between failure of 37.17% while the mean time to repair decreases approximately 16.26%.

When a limited number of network operators have to manage a large number of maintenance tasks, they often lose the sense of what is more important and end up focusing their time on lower-priority issues. As a result, operators may react slowly to critical tasks, increasing network downtime and maintenance costs. We propose a system that estimates the relative importance of different maintenance tasks. According to this estimation, network operators can prioritize their reaction, for example, by spending more time on avoiding disruption caused by high-impact tasks. In particular, we focus on configuration tasks related to BGP sessions. BGP sessions are frequently modified for maintenance operations, such as policy changes, router upgrades, and the addition of peers. These maintenance operations cause route changes, often leading to a huge amount of data loss. The proposed system estimates this amount of data loss by simulating the behavior of BGP. We implement the proposed system and estimate the impact of 372 sessions in a nationwide ISP network. We observe sessions with a wide range of impact, from those with nearly zero impact, to those that can result in 1000GB of data loss if not properly protected. We also observe that these measures change over time, often in unpredictable ways (e.g., from 50GB to 0 over a month period). According to this observation, we suggest that network operators perform periodic audits with the proposed system and classify sessions by highlighting those with a large impact. Operators can then prioritize the level of responses to the classified sessions accordingly and significantly reduce maintenance costs (i.e., by giving priority to the advanced protection of sessions with a large impact).

Do ICT skills of freshmen change in 6 months at the university? What is the contribution of learning styles (or patterns) to the explanation of the variance in self-perceived ICT skills and the possible change in these skills? And what is the contribution of learning styles and of gender, social class, and ICT course attendance to the explanation of the variance in these skills? To answer these questions, data were collected in a panel research project that recruited 714 freshmen at a large Belgian university. The data show that the ability of the students to maintain a computer and to develop a website improves at the university but not the ability to use the Internet or to apply basic ICT skills. The analyses show that there is a link, albeit weak, between learning styles and self-perceived ICT skills. Learning styles can partially explain differences between groups of students with different characteristics. The goal of this study was to conduct preliminary research to inform system design for an advanced NASA assembly task. The primary objective of this research was to compare procedure-based task performance with three common mobile screen sizes: Ultra Mobile Personal Computer (7in/17.8cm), Personal Data Assistant (3.5in/8.9cm), and SmartPhone (2.8in/7.1cm). Study participants used these three screen sizes to view and complete a computer maintenance procedure. Results from 65 student participants indicated a significant difference in completion times between the three screen sizes (F(2, 120) = 690, p < 0.050), but no differences in subjectively-assessed cognitive workload, errors, or performance time. This research aimed at designing and developing an intelligent program to simulate and develop the computer maintenance for the Egyptian universities students to face and manage the computer labs crisis, that result from the student less experience with the basic maintenance skills especially in the computer labs in the Egyptian universities. This could lead to the possibility of infecting the computer devices with virus, defects, non protection for the documents. Many software programs are used to design this intelligent program to simulate the maintenance such as: Adobe Photo Shop, Flash, Screen Virtuoso Pro, Adobe Director and Sound Forge. Research sample was selected from the fourth year students in Educational Technology department, which amounted to (30) students from the Faculty of Specific Education, Ain Shams University.Some tools are prepared to assure the efficiency of the maintenance simulation S/W program as a model that can be applied in Egyptian universities such as: 1- A questionnaire: to identify the skills of preventive maintenance of computer to face crises in computer labs for Educational Technology students from the viewpoint of experts and specialists. 2- A training card: to determine the training needs of students to identify their training skills in Ain Shams University. 3- The proposed simulation S/W program: to increase students skills of preventive maintenance of computer in the Egyptian universities to cope with and manage crises in the computer labs. 4- A prepared test: to measure the extent of the achievements of Educational Technology students from the information contained in the simulation S/W program. 5- Performance observation cards: to determine the level of students performance in Educational Technology and the skills of preventive maintenance of computer to face crises in computer labs.The researcher used the experimental designing, (T.test) to treat the data that obtained from the pre and post application of the study tools on the group, Black's method was used to measure the efficiency of the test analysis and observation results. The results showed that the efficiency of the proposed intelligent program to simulate the computer maintenance skills on the higher education students. It recommends the necessity of using it inside the Egyptian University Labs to avoid the student troubles and the need of providing the computer labs with simulation programs which designed it professionally.

As modern information professionals, we are increasingly required to manage not only information itself, but also its supporting technologies. The primary aim was to study associations between duration of computer and mouse use and musculoskeletal symptoms among computer users. A questionnaire was delivered to 5033 employees in 11 Danish companies and institutions and 3475 subjects responded (69%). Logistic regression analyses on 2579 full-time working employees showed that working almost the whole working day with a computer was associated with neck symptoms (OR=1.92, CI: 1.21–3.02) and shoulder symptoms (OR=1.83, CI: 1.13–2.95) among women and hand symptoms (OR=2.76, CI: 1.51–5.06) among men. These odds ratios were adjusted for psychosocial factors. Among respondents working almost all of their work time with a computer the gender and age-adjusted odds ratio for mouse use more than half of the work time was 1.68 (CI: 1.22–2.31) for hand/wrist symptoms. Call center and data entry workers experienced the lowest possibilities for development at work. All work tasks involving computer use, except computer maintenance, were characterised by a higher frequency of movements than desk work without using a computer. Call center work was characterised by the highest level of repetitiveness as both work tasks and movements were perceived as repetitive. Relevance to industry Computer users with a long daily duration of computer use and mouse use experienced more musculoskeletal symptoms than those with a short duration of computer use. Computer work in general seemed characterised by repetitive movements, which may be a risk factor for musculoskeletal symptoms.

This article reports on the gender differences in self‐perceived computer competencies among distance education learners at the Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM). Four aspects of competencies that are related to computer usage and its applications were studied; these were competencies in the usage of general computer software, usage of networking software, handling of computer hardware and performing computer maintenance. The results showed that there are no significant differences between the genders in terms of the competencies in the usage of general computer software as well as networking software. These are directly linked to the educational purposes needed to support and facilitate learning in distance education. However, gender differences are observed regarding competencies in their handling of most aspects of computer hardware as well as performing computer maintenance.

Object from this research to get pattern of association between symptom and root cause, to prove relation those variable. Previous research prove any relation between that two variable when use Association Rule and Pearson Chi-Square but many rule must eliminated because not ineligable from Pearson Chi-Square. The meaning of this research to confirm proof of test relation between symptom and root cause in CMMS. And hope with this result of test can make strength hypothesis from previous research.

IT Helpdesk is a service unit that is responsible to help in overcoming the problems related to the usage of ICT facilities at Universitas AMIKOM Yogyakarta. IT Helpdesk provides some form of services that can be utilized by academic community at Universitas AMIKOM Yogyakarta in usage of ICT services. This unit services include installation, troubleshooting software, service and computer maintenance. This research discusses about how information system development for user, consumer and manajamen IT Helpdesk. IT Helpdesk of Universitas AMIKOM Yogyakarta currently has an information system that includes the management of user registration and financial data. However, there is no information systems that provides detailed information from the consumer, which can be utilized by consumers IT Helpdesk itself in tracking the services status. Additionally, the current system has not been able to support management requirements in monitoring and evaluating the performance of technicians. The results of the research is a system that can provide information with a fast and accurate to the consumer and management of IT Helpdesk.

Fundação de Amparo a Pesquisa do Estado de Minas Gerais Developing Serious Games for teaching and learning has currently emerged as research field-fertile. In the context of computer maintenance, educational institutions lack of updated hardware and that makes preparation and implementation of practical assessments difficult to teachers. In this scenario, learners face some problems in developing activities related to computer maintenance. This project proposes the development of a game to recreate situations that require practical knowledge of computer maintenance in a virtual simulator. The student is given a number of tasks, such as fitting the processor, and both a RAM and a video card modules. The game is conducted in three levels, i.e., basic, intermediate and advanced. The user steps through the process according to the conclusion of each phase. The teacher prepares and gives the student a questionnaire that changes from one level to another, according to the knowledge acquired. One of the advantages of this work is related to cost reduction in maintenance and acquisition of hardware, such as working with the latest processors. Furthermore, working with the solutions developed facilitates asynchronous learners training in environments which are adverse to the traditional teaching laboratories, as it does not require the physical hardware. Aspects related to simplicity of use, graphic quality and flow were considered in the context of the solution development, in order to reach the teachers and learners target audience. Neste cenário, aprendizes enfrentam dificuldade no desenvolvimento de atividades correlatas à Manutenção de Computadores. Este projeto propõe o desenvolvimento de um jogo, para recriar situações onde são exigidos conhecimentos práticos de Manutenção de Computadores em um simulador virtual, onde o estudante recebe uma série de tarefas, tais como o encaixe do processador, módulo de uma memória RAM e de uma placa de vídeo. O jogo é feito em três níveis, a saber, básico, intermediário e avançado. O usuário avança de acordo com a conclusão de cada fase. O aluno responde a um questionário (alimentado com perguntas e respostas elaboradas pelo professor), mudando de nível, de acordo com o conhecimento adquirido. Um benefício deste trabalho relaciona-se com a diminuição dos custos referentes à manutenção e aquisição de equipamentos de hardware, como por exemplo, trabalhar com todos os processadores mais recentes. Além disso, com uso das soluções desenvolvidas, propicia a condição de treinamento, por parte do aprendiz, de forma assíncrona, em ambientes adversos aos tradicionais laboratórios de ensino, uma vez que dispensa o hardware físico. When everyone starts using these systems, guess what? They expect them to work and to be easy to use. So this era will drive system design toward greater availability, maintainability, and scalability, which will require a real refocusing of current research directions.

Monitoring of computer-based systems by a supervisory computer is common for high-availability systems. Expert-based supervisory systems are being proposed which are able to use dynamic information of the system to operate them with increased reliability. This paper brings out the functional capabilities of expert-based maintenance, and presents an analytic model to evaluate the effectiveness of the expert system in maintenance. The abilities of the expert system to maintain the host are parameterized and their effects on the performance of the system are studied. The results show possible improvement in the performance of a host due to expert-based maintenance.

Reliability Centred Maintenance was introduced in the USA during the sixties in the civil aviation industry. This framework is known under the acronym RCM. The use of RCM for more classical production plants is not yet well developed. In order to obtain a generic and efficient tool, 15 foundries which are very different in terms of type, size, level of technology and geographic location, were chosen to set up an adapted approach of RCM for this specific industry. The use of this “RCM method for SMEs” has proved to be a particularly well adapted approach for the organisation of maintenance in such organisations where the lack of resources is a major constraint. In addition, RCM has permitted the analysis and use of trade knowledge concerning major types of machinery in this industrial sector.

Information Technology at The University of Montana provides free technology training to faculty, staff and students through the IT Short Course Training Program. Each semester, courses are offered on a variety of topics including: accessibility, Banner, Moodle, MS Office, general computer maintenance, and web technologies. Course registration was available through the program website and worked well for both registrants and administrators. However, new technologies prompted us to redesign and update the process.Beginning in fall 2011 we rolled out a new online registration process. Registrants log in to a Short Course Manager using their NetID, the login credential for UM centrally accessed services and applications. Once in the system, they create a user profile and can register, view, and cancel their current courses. Additionally, transcripts are available for all courses completed.This new system has been well received by campus. For administrators, system improvements include: online registrant record-keeping, a permanent library of course offerings editable and available for future semesters, more flexible mid-semester course additions and changes, and automated course confirmation and cancellation notices. New features for program instructors include online roster availability and access to instructor policies and procedures necessary for lab preparation and shut-down.What went well? What still needs improvement? As we move forward with this new system, we will continue to assess its functionality ensuring that the process allows convenient and smooth course registration for University members and efficient, easy management for administrators.

The use of collaborative Augmented Reality can solve, or at least reduce, the cost of these activities. This paper proposes a protocol for the transmission of visual cues, represented by Augmented Reality elements, in collaborative applications. The protocol focuses on a client-server communication, where the client has the role to remotely supervise the activities, possibly sending interest points or instruction to the server. A prototype application was developed in order to demonstrate the advantages of a real application usage.

Computer laboratories in large computer centers play an important role for the computing education in higher education institutions. Due to heavy usage, there are often hardware or software problems on these computers. Thus computer laboratories management and maintenance is a very important and long-term task. For a computer laboratory, the computers' monthly used time follows the normal distribution, which is verified by the chi-square goodness-of-fit hypothesis test. According to probability distributions based on the normal distribution, a statistical method based computer fault prediction model for public computer laboratories is presented. Computers' health state is divided into four classes: the Normal state, the Concerning state, the Warning state, and the Fault state. For different levels of computer fault, different methods are used to maintain it. The experiment and application was conducted in a university computer center with hundreds of computers in 9 computer laboratories. The experiment and application results show that it is an effective way for finding fault computers. It can be used to guide computer maintenance. Computers maintenance workload is greatly reduced by using this fault prediction model.
