​This open access book presents the outcomes of the symposium “NEW METROPOLITAN PERSPECTIVES,” held at Mediterranea University, Reggio Calabria, Italy on May 26–28, 2020.Addressing the challenge of Knowledge Dynamics and Innovation-driven Policies Towards Urban and Regional Transition, the book presents a multi-disciplinary debate on the new frontiers of strategic and spatial planning, economic programs and decision support tools in connection with urban–rural area networks and metropolitan centers. The respective papers focus on six major tracks: Innovation dynamics, smart cities and ICT; Urban regeneration, community-led practices and PPP; Local development, inland and urban areas in territorial cohesion strategies; Mobility, accessibility and infrastructures; Heritage, landscape and identity;and Risk management,environment and energy. The book also includes a Special Section on Rhegion United Nations 2020-2030. Given its scope, the book will benefit all researchers, practitioners and policymakers interested in issues concerning metropolitan and marginal areas.

Immer stärker rücken die Herausforderungen und Probleme beim Prozess der Bewerbung von Städten und Regionen um internationale Sportgroßveranstaltungen in den Fokus der Aufmerksamkeit. Dieser Band präsentiert Beiträge aus unterschiedlichen wissenschaftlichen Disziplinen und aus der Praxis, die im Rahmen des 16. Internationalen Hamburger Kongresses für Sport, Ökonomie und Medien vorgestellt wurden. Vor dem Hintergrund der geplanten Bewerbung der Hansestadt um die Olympischen Spiele 2024 und die Folgen nach dem gescheiterten Referendum der Hamburger Bürger werden die Formen und Möglichkeiten der Partizipation der Bevölkerung bei der Bewerbung und Konsequenzen für zukünftige Bewerbungsprozesse diskutiert. Zudem werden allgemeine Problematiken rund um Bewerbungen sowie deren Einfluss auf das Marketing der Bewerberstadt thematisiert. Zudem wird die sich schnell wandelnde Welt der Sportgroßveranstaltungen auch in Hinblick auf ihre politische Bedeutung oder auf den Einfluss von veränderter Kommunikation untersucht und die möglichen Auswirkungen beschrieben. Weiterhin wird der Einfluss auch kleinerer Sportereignisse oder von Wettbewerben und inklusiven Sportprojekten auf das Marketing von Städten thematisiert.

Containing the proceedings of the 9th International Conference on Urban Regeneration and Sustainability this book addresses the multi-disciplinary aspects of urban planning; a result of the increasing size of cities; the amount of resources and services required and the complexity of modern society. Most of earth's population now lives in cities and the process of urbanisation still continues generating many problems deriving from the drift of the population towards them. These problems can be resolved by cities becoming efficient habitats, saving resources in a way that improves the quality and standard of living. The process however, faces a number of major challenges, related to reducing pollution, improving main transportation and infrastructure systems. New urban solutions are required to optimise the use of space and energy resources leading to improvements in the environment, i.e. reduction in air, water and soil pollution as well as efficient ways to deal with waste generation. These challenges contribute to the development of social and economic imbalances and require the development of new solutions. Large cities are probably the most complex mechanisms to manage. However, despite such complexity they represent a fertile ground for architects, engineers, city planners, social and political scientists, and other professionals able to conceive new ideas and time them according to technological advances and human requirements. The challenge of planning sustainable cities lies in considering their dynamics, the exchange of energy and matter, and the function and maintenance of ordered structures directly or indirectly, supplied and maintained by natural systems. Ces contributions explorent les relations entre l'entrepreneuriat et les territoires, principalement les villes, exposent expériences et points de vue sur les dynamiques entrepreneuriales associées aux espaces urbains. La ville y est appréhendée comme lieu privilégié de l'effervescence des cultures entrepreneuriales dont le décryptage est indispensable pour une meilleure pédagogie d'accompagnement de la part des décideurs publics et des acteurs de la société civile locale.

Urban areas produce a series of environmental problems arising from the consumption of natural resources and the consequent generation of waste and pollution. These problems contribute to the development of social and economic imbalances. All these problems, which continue to grow in our society, require new solutions.
