Utilisées fréquemment en mer et en lac pour échantillonner les poissons, les techniques hydroacoustiques se développent de plus en plus dans les milieux de faible profondeur. Le nombre de poissons qui franchissent l'écluse de Beaucaire-Vallabrègues, premier obstacle rencontré sur le Rhône, est estimé à l'aide d'un sondeur SIMRAD EY500, fréquence 70 kHz, à faisceaux partagés(split-beam). Deux transducteurs échantillonnent une tranche d'eau évaluée à environ 35 % de la section de l'écluse. Le nombre de poissons franchissant l'écluse est calculé pour chaque éclusée dite à poissons. Les caractéristiques de franchissement des poissons (dates, position, durée de sortie) sont observées. Les analyses actuelles ne permettent pas de faire la distinction entre les deux principales espèces qui franchissent l'obstacle, l'alose (Alosa fallax) et le mulet (Mugil cephalus).

Sex differences in immune responses impact cancer outcomes and treatment response, including in glioblastoma (GBM). However, host factors underlying sex specific immune-cancer interactions are poorly understood. Here, we identify the neurotransmitter γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) as a driver of GBM-promoting immune response in females. We demonstrated that GABA receptor B (GABBR) signaling enhances L-Arginine metabolism and nitric oxide synthase 2 (NOS2) expression in female granulocytic myeloid-derived suppressor cells (gMDSCs). GABBR agonist and GABA analog promoted GBM growth in females in an immune-dependent manner, while GABBR inhibition reduces gMDSC NOS2 production and extends survival only in females. Furthermore, female GBM patients have enriched GABA transcriptional signatures compared to males, and the use of GABA analogs in GBM patients is associated with worse short-term outcomes only in females. Temporal interference electrical neurostimulation (TI) is a relatively new method of non-invasive neurostimulation that may be able to stimulate deep brain regions without stimulating the overlying superficial regions. Although some recent studies have demonstrated the success of TI in modulating task-induced BOLD activity in humans, there is limited information on intended and off-target effects of TI during resting-state. We simultaneously performed TI stimulation with the set-up optimized for maximum focality in the left caudate and collected resting-state fMRI data to investigate the effects of TI on human BOLD signals. We found increased BOLD activation in a part of the mid-orbitofrontal cortex (OFC) and parahippocampal gyrus. Results indicate that TI can induce increased BOLD activation in the region that receives the highest magnitude of TI amplitude modulation in humans, with good safety and tolerability profiles. We also show the limits of spatial precision and explore the nature and causes of additional off-target effects. Vaccine hesitancy could become a significant impediment to addressing the COVID-19 pandemic. The current study examined the prevalence of COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy and factors associated with vaccine intentions. A national panel survey by the National Opinion Research Center (NORC) was designed to be representative of the US household population. Sampled respondents were invited to complete the survey between May 14 and 18, 2020 in English or Spanish. 1,056 respondents completed the survey-942 via the web and 114 via telephone. The dependent variable was assessed by the item "If a vaccine against the coronavirus becomes available, do you plan to get vaccinated, or not?" Approximately half (53.6%) reported intending to be vaccinated, 16.7% did not intend, and 29.7% were unsure. In the adjusted stepwise multinominal logistic regression, Black and Hispanic respondents were significantly less likely to report intending to be vaccinated as were respondents who were females, younger, and those who were more politically conservative. Compared to those who reported positive vaccine intentions, respondents with negative vaccine intentions were significantly less likely to report that they engaged in the COVID-19 prevention behaviors of wearing masks (aOR = 0.53, CI = 0.37-0.76) and social distancing (aOR = 0.22, CI = 0.12-0.42). In a sub-analysis of reasons not to be vaccinated, significant race/ethnic differences were observed. This national survey indicated a modest level of COVID-19 vaccine intention. We conducted a longitidinal assessment of 806 respondents in March, 2020 in the US to examine the trustworthiness of sources of information about COVID-19. Respondents were recontacted after four months. Information sources included mainstream media, state health departments, the CDC, the White House, and a well-known university. We also examined how demographics, political partisanship, and skepticism about COVID-19 were associated with the perceived trustworthiness of information sources and decreased trustworthiness over time. At baseline, the majority of respondants reported high trust in COVID-19 information from state health departments (75.6%), the CDC (80.9%), and a university (Johns Hopkins, 81.1%). Mainstream media was trusted by less than half the respondents (41.2%), and the White House was the least trusted source (30.9%). At the 4-month follow-up, a significant decrease in trustworthiness in all five sources of COVID-19 information was observed. The most pronounced reductions were from the CDC and the White House. In multivariate analyses, factors associated with rating the CDC, state health department, and a university as trustworthy sources of COVID-19 information were political party affiliation, level of education, and skepticism about COVID-19. The most consistent predictor of decreased trust was political party affiliation, with Democrats as compared to Republicans less likely to report decreased trust across all sources.

Infectious diseases with epizootic consequences have not been fully studied in marine mammals. Presently, the unprecedented depth of sequencing, made available by high-throughput approaches, allows detailed comparisons of the microbiome in health and disease. This is the first report of the striped dolphin microbiome in different body sites. Samples from one striped female edematous dolphin were acquired from a variety of body niches, including the blowhole, oral cavity, oral mucosa, tongue, stomach, intestines and genital mucosa. Detailed 16S rRNA analysis of over half a million sequences identified 235 OTUs. Beta diversity analyses indicated that microbial communities vary in structure and cluster by sample origin. Pathogenic, Gram-negative, facultative and obligate anaerobic taxa were significantly detected, including Cetobacterium, Fusobacterium and Ureaplasma. Phocoenobacter and Arcobacter dominated the oral-type samples, while Cardiobacteriaceae and Vibrio were associated with the blowhole and Photobacterium were abundant in the gut. We report for the first time the association of Epulopiscium with a marine mammal gut. The striped dolphin microbiota shows variation in structure and diversity according to the organ type. Purpose: To report a case of drug reaction (or rash) with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms syndrome in association with intraretinal hemorrhages and intermediate uveitis., Methods: Single case report., Results: A 22-year-old Hispanic woman developed a facial rash and blurry vision after the use of oral trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole for a urinary tract infection. Fundus examination revealed bilateral +2 vitritis and intraretinal hemorrhages in all four quadrants. An oral mucosal biopsy revealed V-shaped coagulative necrosis, intraepithelial and superficial acute and lymphoplasmacytic inflammation, consistent with drug hypersensitivity reaction., Conclusion: Drug reaction (or rash) with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms syndrome can present as cutaneous rash, mucosal lesions, eosinophilia, intermediate uveitis, and intraretinal hemorrhages. In such cases, vitreoretinal manifestations may be considered as diagnostic criteria instead visceral involvement.

Children in foster care have many health needs. This article presents the model of the Children's Aid Society (CAS) of New York City in addressing these needs. In addition to their regular foster care program, CAS developed the Medical Foster Care (MFC) in response to the growing number of boarder babies (children with medical conditions who are abandoned at hospitals), and the Therapeutic Foster Care (TFC) for foster children with emotional and behavioral mental health problems. The MFC serves 145 children considered medically fragile, as evidenced by congenital diseases such as heart disease, renal agenesis, cerebral palsy, seizure disorders and mental retardation. The TFC serves 50 children with severe levels of emotional and behavioral symptomatology. As is indicated by the extensive services offered through CAS's regular foster care program, as well as MFC and TFC, these children require specialized treatment. In addition, systems of information maintenance and exchange surrounding the health care of foster children need to be improved. Often agencies are ill-equipped to do adequate background checks on these young people and as a result deliver them to foster care situations where their health needs are not revealed and therefore not addressed. Health care providers also need to stay informed on the overall subject of foster care, as their voices will probably be crucial in ensuring that the extensive needs of these children are adequately represented to government, medical and other service providers.
