Expressions for these correlators in the perturbative expansion for small and large non-Gaussian color charge fluctuations are derived for arbitrary orders in perturbation theory. We explicitly show that the perturbative series does not converge at higher orders as expected. We apply the Borel-Pade resummation method to our problem to construct a convergent series. Both Pb-Pb and pp data sets are recorded by the CMS experiment at the LHC and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 1.7 nb(-1) and 320 pb(-1), respectively. Hadronic collision data with one reconstructed Z boson candidate with the transverse momentum p(T) > 30 GeV/c are analyzed. The Z boson constrains the initial energy and direction of the associated parton. In heavy ion events, azimuthal angular distributions of charged hadrons with respect to the direction of a Z boson are sensitive to modifications of the in-medium parton shower and medium response. compared to reference data from pp interactions, the results for central Pb-Pb collisions indicate a modification of the angular correlations. The measurements of the fragmentation functions and p(T) spectra of charged particles in Z boson events, which are sensitive to medium modifications of the parton shower longitudinal structure, are also reported. Dada a complexidade considerável de procurar descrever a evolução de íons colisores altamente energéticos através de um conjunto fechado de equações, além de um volume abundante de dados experimentais para colisões na faixa de energias de TeV disponibilizado nos últimos anos, uma alternativa entre abordagens teóricas e previsões experimentais pode ser desenvolvida com o uso de modelos fenomenológicos, criados através de programas que simulam cada estágio de uma colisão de íons pesados Neste trabalho, uma nova abordagem para simular as condições iniciais criadas nos momentos imediatamente posteriores de tais colisões foi desenvolvida através do uso de um pacote de códigos robusto conhecido como PYTHIA, que foi selecionado como o gerador de eventos para tal abordagem. As condições iniciais resultantes foram então caracterizadas e posteriormente evoluídas com o uso de uma cadeia hidrodinâmica de simulação, e os resultados finais obtidos destas simulações foram comparados com os dados experimentais disponibilizados pela colaboração ALICE Abstract: Within the list of open questions for the field of high-energy physics, the theoretical description and the experimental pursue of signals of a state of matter denominated quark-gluon plasma (QGP) provides a great challenge for its associated theory, quantum chromodynamics (QCD). Due to the considerable complexity of attempting to describe the evolution of highly energetic colliding ions with a complete set of equations, and given the abundant volume of data for experimental results in the range of TeV made available in recent years, a middle ground between a full theoretical approach and the experimental predictions can be reached with the use of phenomenological models, done through programs that simulates each step of a high-energy collision. In this work, a new approach to simulate the initial densities created in the moments immediately after such collision was developed with the use of a robust code package known as PYTHIA as the event generator of choice. These resulting initial conditions were then characterized and latter evolved through the use of a hydrodynamic simulation chain, with results being compared to experimental data provided by the ALICE collaboration Mestrado Física Mestra em Física CNPQ 133488/2020-9

The soft drop grooming algorithm provides access to the hard parton splittings inside a jet by removing soft wide-angle radiation. We report the groomed jet momentum splitting fraction, z(g), and the (scaled) groomed jet radius, theta(g). Charged-particle jets are reconstructed at midrapidity using the anti-k(T) algorithm with resolution parameters R = 0.2 and R = 0.4. In heavy-ion collisions, the large underlying event poses a challenge for the reconstruction of groomed jet observables, since fluctuations in the background can cause groomed parton splittings to be misidentified. By using strong grooming conditions to reduce this background, we report these observables fully corrected for detector effects and background fluctuations for the first time. A narrowing of the theta(g) distribution in Pb-Pb collisions compared to pp collisions is seen, which provides direct evidence of the modification of the angular structure of jets in the quark-gluon plasma. No significant modification of the z(g) distribution in Pb-Pb collisions compared to pp collisions is observed. In this paper, the production of protons, deuterons and He-3 and their charge conjugates at midrapidity is studied as a function of the charged-particle multiplicity in inelastic pp collisions at root s = 5.02 TeV using the ALICE detector. Within the uncertainties, the yields of nuclei in pp collisions at root s = 5.02 TeV are compatible with those in pp collisions at different energies and to those in p-Pb collisions when compared at similar multiplicities. The measurements are compared with the expectations of coalescence and Statistical Hadronisation Models. We show that this ambiguity can be resolved by viewing different formulations of hydrodynamics as particular "gauge choices"which lead to the same physical behavior of the system. Using the example of bulk viscosity, we show that Bemfica-Disconzi-Noronha-Kovtun (BDNK) and Israel-Stewart hydrodynamics are particular "gauge choices"of this type, related by a well-defined transformation of thermodynamic and hydrodynamic variables. Orientador: Arlene Cristina Aguilar Dissertação (mestrado) - Universidade Estadual de Campinas, Instituto de Física Gleb Wataghin Resumo: Neste trabalho vamos conduzir uma análise detalhada de quais são as variações observadas nos comportamentos dos espectros de momento transversal P_T, obtidos para uma colisão de chumbo-chumbo (Pb-Pb) com energia de centro de massa, ?(S_NN )=2.76 TeV, quando variamos na cadeia de códigos computacionais que simulam esta colisão de íons pesados: (i) a viscosidade de cisalhamento (shear), ou (ii) os raios dos nucleons que formam os íons. Para isso, iremos expandir as respectivas funções de distribuição de probabilidade, que podem ser derivadas a partir dos espectros de P_T, em uma base de polinômios associados de Laguerre para cada uma dessas simulações. Comparando entre si os coeficientes das expansões (i) no caso da hidrodinâmica viscosa e da ideal e (ii) no caso onde os raios dos nucleons são modificados, verificaremos se há algum padrão de comportamento na qual um dado coeficiente da expansão se destaque dos demais. Em caso afirmativo, poderíamos utilizar esse coeficiente como um possível "observável físico" capaz de sinalizar as variações na viscosidade do meio e/ou tamanho do raio do núcleon em uma colisão de íons pesados Abstract: In this work, we will perform a detailed analysis of the transverse momentum spectra, P_T, obtained for lead-lead collisions (Pb-Pb) with center-of-mass energy, ?(S_NN )=2.76TeV. The spectra are obtained using a chain of numerical codes which simulate all stages of heavy-ion collisions. In particular, we obtain the corresponding spectra varying (i) the shear viscosity and (ii) the radii of the nucleons that form the ions in these simulations. Expanding the corresponding distribution functions into a basis of the associated Laguerre polynomials, we can compare the coefficients of the expansions when we vary the value of (i) the shear viscosity and (ii) the radii of the nucleons. Then, we analyze whether the expansion coefficients display a sort of pattern that could be used as a possible "physical observable" capable of signaling variations in medium viscosity and/or nucleon radius size in a heavy-ion collision Mestrado Física Mestre em Física CNPQ 136381/2019-7

Orientador: David Dobrigkeit Chinellato Dissertação (mestrado) - Universidade Estadual de Campinas, Instituto de Física Gleb Wataghin Resumo: Neste trabalho foi estudado um modelo fenomenológico que pretende correlacionar as condições iniciais de um espalhamento nuclear com a multiplicidade de partículas produzidas. O modelo interpreta um espalhamento nuclear como uma sobreposição de espalhamentos núcleon-núcleon, usando como input valores reais de multiplicidade pp combinados com resultados de simulações geométricas Glauber Monte Carlo na caracterização das condições iniciais. Considerar simplesmente cada par de núcleons participantes como um sistema pp se mostrou incompatível na comparação da multiplicidade obtida com dados reais. Porém, incluindo-se a contribuição do número de colisões binárias entre núcleons na densidade da colisão, o modelo obteve valores de cidade compatíveis com resultados experimentais. No sistema intermediário p-Pb 5.02 TeV não houve correlação significativa entre os valores obtidos pelo modelo e dados experimentais. Foi investigado também Xe-Xe em 5.44 TeV, um sistema estudado pela colaboração ALICE recentemente. Adicionalmente, é possível mostrar a partir do modelo que não há relação inequívoca entre definir-se centralidade via parâmetro de impacto, uma grandeza puramente geométrica, ou determiná-la via multiplicidade de partículas carregadas, uma grandeza que é de fato experimentalmente acessível. Na mesma energia (5.02 TeV), os intervalos de centralidade onde há equivalência entre suas duas determinações dentro de 5% foram 0-76% em Pb-Pb, 0-72% em Xe-Xe, 2-68% em Cu-Cu, 4-68% em Ca-Ca e 6-60% em O-O, indicando que o tamanho do sistema influencia os critérios a serem usados em sua análise Abstract: In this work a phenomenological model that intends to correlate the initial conditions of a an ultra-relativistic heavy-ion collision with its particle production multiplicity was studied. The model interprets a nuclear scattering as a superposition of nucleon nucleon scatterings, using real pp multiplicity values as input, combined with Glauber Monte Carlo geometrical simulations results. The simple assumption that each pair of participating nucleons could be considered as a pp system was shown to be incompatible by comparing the multiplicity obtained with the model to real data. Nevertheless, once the influence of the number of binary collisions in the collision density is considered, the model obtained results comparable to real data. There was no expressive correlation between the multiplicity obtained with the model and experimental data in the intermediary system p-Pb 5.02 TeV. Xe-Xe 5.44 TeV, a system recently studied by the ALICE collaboration, was also investigated. Additionally, the model reveals that there is no unambiguous relation between de ning centrality using the impact parameter, a purely geometrical quantity, and determining it using charged particle multiplicity, a quantity that is in fact experimentally accessible. At the same energy (5.02 TeV), the centrality ranges where both determinations are equivalent withing 5% were 0-76% in Pb-Pb, 0-72% in Xe-Xe, 2-68% in Cu-Cu, 4-68% in Ca-Ca and 6-60% in O-O, which indicates that the size of the system may in uence the criteria to be used for analysis Mestrado Física Mestre em Física CNPQ 131958/2016-0

This result, together with previous HERA gamma p data and gamma-Pb measurements from ALICE, describes the atomic number (A) dependence of this process, which is particularly sensitive to nuclear shadowing effects and to the approach to the black-disc limit of QCD at a semi-hard scale. The cross section of the Xe + Xe -> rho(0) + Xe + Xe process, measured at midrapidity through the decay channel rho(0)-> pi(+)pi(-), is found to be d sigma/dy = 131.5 +/- 5.6(stat.)(-16.9)(+17.5) (syst.) mb. The ratio of the continuum to resonant contributions for the production of pion pairs is also measured. In addition, the fraction of events accompanied by electromagnetic dissociation of either one or both colliding nuclei is reported. The dependence on A of cross section for the coherent rho 0 photoproduction at a centre-of-mass energy per nucleon of the gamma A system of W gamma A,n = 65 GeV is found to be consistent with a power-law behaviour sigma (gamma A -> rho(0) A) proportional to A(alpha) with a slope alpha = 0.96 +/- 0.02(syst.). Then, using state-of-the-art hydrodynamic simulations, we make an explicit connection between flow fluctuations and a cumulant expansion of the initial transverse geometry. In particular, we show that the second principal component of elliptic flow is generated by higher-order cumulants, and therefore probes smaller length scales of the initial state. Abstract: The performance is presented of the reconstruction and identification algorithms for electrons and photons with the CMS experiment at the LHC. The reported results are based on proton-proton collision data collected at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV and recorded in 2016-2018, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 136 fb(-1). Results obtained from lead-lead collision data collected at root S-NN = 5.02 TeV are also presented. Innovative techniques are used to reconstruct the electron and photon signals in the detector and to optimize the energy resolution. Events with electrons and photons in the final state are used to measure the energy resolution and energy scale uncertainty in the recorded events. The measured energy resolution for electrons produced in Z boson decays in proton-proton collision data ranges from 2 to 5%, depending on electron pseudorapidity and energy loss through bremsstrahlung in the detector material. The energy scale in the same range of energies is measured with an uncertainty smaller than 0.1 (0.3)% in the barrel (endcap) region in proton-proton collisions and better than 1(3)% in the barrel (endcap) region in heavy ion collisions. Previous measurements revealed a strong modification to dihadron azimuthal correlations in Au+Au collisions with respect to p+p and d+Au collisions. The modification increases with the collision centrality, suggesting a path-length or energy density dependence to the jet-quenching effect. This paper reports STAR measurements of dihadron azimuthal correlations in mid-central (20%-60%) Au+Au collisions at root s(NN)= 200 GeV as a function of the trigger particle's azimuthal angle relative to the event plane, phi(s) = vertical bar phi(t) - psi(EP)vertical bar .The azimuthal correlation is studied as a function of both the trigger and associated particle p(T). The subtractions of the combinatorial background and anisotropic flow, assuming Zero Yield At Minimum (ZYAM), are described. The correlation results are first discussed with subtraction of the even harmonic (elliptic and quadrangular) flow backgrounds. The away-side correlation is strongly modified, and the modification varies with phi(s), with a double-peak structure for out-of-plane trigger particles. The near-side ridge (long range pseudo-rapidity Delta(eta) correlation) appears to drop with increasing phi(s) while the jet-like component remains approximately constant. The correlation functions are further studied with the subtraction of odd harmonic triangular flow background arising from fluctuations. It is found that the triangular flow, while responsible for the majority of the amplitudes, is not sufficient to explain the phi(s)-dependence of the ridge or the away-side double-peak structure. The dropping ridge with phi(s), could be attributed to a phi(s)-dependent elliptic anisotropy||however, the physics mechanism of the ridge remains an open question. Even with a phi(s)-dependent elliptic flow, the away-side correlation structure is robust. The analysis was performed on the Pb-Pb collision data at root(S)(NN) = 2.76 TeV recorded with the ALICE detector. The non-identical particle correlations probe the spatio-temporal separation between sources of different particle species as well as the average source size of the emitting system. The sizes of the pion and kaon sources increase with centrality, and pions are emitted closer to the centre of the system and/or later than kaons. This is naturally expected in a system with strong radial flow and is qualitatively reproduced by hydrodynamic models. ALICE data on pion-kaon emission asymmetry are consistent with (3+1)-dimensional viscous hydrodynamics coupled to a statistical hadronisation model, resonance propagation, and decay code THERMINATOR 2 calculation, with an additional time delay between 1 and 2 fm/c for kaons. The results are achieved through a femtoscopic analysis of Lambda K correlations in Pb-Pb collisions at root s(NN) = 2.76 TeV recorded by ALICE at the Large Hadron Collider. The femtoscopic correlations result from strong final-state interactions and are fit with a parametrization allowing for both the characterization of the pair emission source and the measurement of the scattering parameters for the particle pairs. Extensive studies with the THERMINATOR 2 event generator provide a good description of the nonfemtoscopic background, which results mainly from collective effects, with unprecedented precision. Furthermore, together with HIJING simulations, this model is used to account for contributions from residual correlations induced by feed-down from particle decays. The extracted scattering parameters indicate that the strong force is repulsive in the Lambda K+ interaction and attractive in the Lambda K- interaction. The data hint that the Lambda K-S(0) interaction is attractive; however, the uncertainty of the result does not permit such a decisive conclusion. The results suggest an effect arising either from different quark-antiquark interactions between the pairs (s (s) over bar in Lambda K+ and u (u) over bar in Lambda K-) or from different net strangeness for each system (S = 0 for Lambda K+, and S = -2 for Lambda K-). Finally, the Lambda K systems exhibit source radii larger than expected from extrapolation from identical particle femtoscopic studies. The D mesons were reconstructed via their hadronic decays in the transverse momentum interval 1 < p(T) < 36 GeV/c in central (0-10%) and semi-central (30-50%) collisions. Compared to pions, protons, and J/psi mesons, the average D-meson v(n) harmonics are compatible within uncertainties with a mass hierarchy for p(T) less than or similar to 3 GeV/c , and are similar to those of charged pions for higher p(T). The coupling of the charm quark to the light quarks in the underlying medium is further investigated with the application of the event-shape engineering (ESE) technique to the D-meson v(2) and p(T)-differential yields. The D-meson v(2) is correlated with average bulk elliptic flow in both central and semi-central collisions. Within the current precision, the ratios of per-event D meson yields in the ESE-selected and unbiased samples are found to be compatible with unity. The data were measured with the ALICE detector in ultra-peripheral Pb-Pbcollisions at a centre-of-mass energy per nucleon pair root s(NN) = 5.02 TeV with the J/Psi produced in the central rapidity region vertical bar y vertical bar < 0.8, which corresponds to the small Bjorken-xrange (0.3 - 1.4) x 10(-3). The measured vertical bar t vertical bar-dependence is not described by computations based only on the Pb nuclear form factor, while the photonuclear cross section is better reproduced by models including shadowing according to the leading-twist approximation, or gluon-saturation effects from the impact-parameter dependent Balitsky-Kovchegov equation. The nuclear modification factor RAA at sNN=5.02 TeV is measured at forward rapidity (2.57 GeV/c). The RAA shows an increase of the suppression of the yields of muons from heavy-flavour hadron decays with increasing centrality. A suppression by a factor of about three is observed in the 10% most central collisions. The RAA at sNN=5.02 TeV is similar to that at sNN=2.76 TeV. The precise RAA measurements have the potential to distinguish between model predictions implementing different mechanisms of parton energy loss in the high-density medium formed in heavy-ion collisions. The Y mesons are reconstructed in their dimuon decay channel, as measured by the CMS detector. The collected data set corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 1.7 nb(-1). The scalar product method is used to extract the v2 coefficients of the azimuthal distributions. Results are reported for the rapidity range vertical bar y vertical bar < 2.4, in the transverse momentum interval 0 < pT < 50 GeV/c, and in three centrality ranges of 10-30%, 30-50% and 50-90%. These new measurements show a clear decrease of the Lambda(+)(c)/D-0 ratio with increasing transverse momentum (p(T)) in both collision systems in the range 2 < P-T < 12 GeV/c, exhibiting similarities with the light-flavor baryon-tomeson ratios p/pi and Lambda/K-S(0). At low p(T), predictions that include additional color-reconnection mechanisms beyond the leading-color approximation, assume the existence of additional higher-mass charm-baryon states, or include hadronization via coalescence can describe the data, while predictions driven by charmquark fragmentation processes measured in e(+) e(-) and e(-) p collisions significantly underestimate the data. Each combination of four charged particles is selected from either two, three, or four distinct subevent regions of a pseudorapidity range from -2.4 to 2.4 of the CMS tracker, and with transverse momentum between 0.3 and 3.0 GeV. Using the subevent cumulant technique, correlations between v(n) of different orders are measured as functions of particle multiplicity and compared to the standard cumulant method without subevents over a wide event multiplicity range. At high multiplicities, the v(2) and v(3) coefficients exhibit an anticorrelation; this behavior is observed consistently using various methods. The v(2) and v(4) correlation strength is found to depend on the number of subevents used in the calculation. As the event multiplicity decreases, the results from different subevent methods diverge because of different contributions of noncollective or few-particle correlations. Correlations extracted with the four-subevent method exhibit a tendency to diminish monotonically toward the lowest multiplicity region (about 20 charged tracks) investigated. Agradecimentos: Two-particle angular correlations are measured in high-multiplicity proton-proton collisions at = 13 TeV by the ALICE Collaboration. The yields of particle pairs at short-(eta similar to 0) and long-range (1.6 < || < 1.8) in pseudorapidity are extracted on the near-side ( 0). They are reported as a function of transverse momentum (p(T)) in the range 1 < p(T)< 4 GeV/c. Furthermore, the event-scale dependence is studied for the first time by requiring the presence of high-p(T) leading particles or jets for varying p(T) thresholds. The results demonstrate that the long-range "ridge" yield, possibly related to the collective behavior of the system, is present in events with high-p(T) processes as well. The magnitudes of the short- and long-range yields are found to grow with the event scale. The results are compared to EPOS LHC and PYTHIA 8 calculations, with and without string-shoving interactions. The yields as well as the nuclear modification factors are determined in the forward rapidity region 2.5 < y < 4.0, as a function of rapidity, transverse momentum and collision centrality. The results show that the production of the Upsilon(1S) meson is suppressed by a factor of about three with respect to the production in proton-proton collisions. For the first time, a significant signal for the Upsilon(2S) meson is observed at forward rapidity, indicating a suppression stronger by about a factor 2-3 with respect to the ground state. The authors also acknowledge computing time provided by the Research Computing Support Group at Rice University through agreement with the Universidade de São Paulo Abstract: We investigate the effects of prehydrodynamic evolution on final-state observables in heavy-ion collisions using state-of-the art event simulations coupled to different prehydrodynamic scenarios, which include the recently developed effective kinetic transport theory evolution model Kempty setMPempty setST. Differential flow observables are found to be mostly insensitive to the details of prehydrodynamic evolution. The main effect we observe is in the P T spectra, particularly the mean transverse momentum. However, at least part of this effect is a consequence of the underlying conformal invariance assumption currently present in such approaches, which is known to be violated in the temperature regime probed in heavy-ion collisions. This assumption of early time conformal invariance leads to an artificially large out-of-equilibrium bulk pressure when switching from (conformal) prehydrodynamic evolution to hydrodynamics (using the nonconformal QCD equation of state), which in turn increases the transverse momentum. Abstract: Jet production in lead-lead (PbPb) and proton-proton (pp) collisions at a nucleon-nucleon center-of-mass energy of 5.02 TeV is studied with the CMS detector at the LHC, using PbPb and pp data samples corresponding to integrated luminosities of 404 µb-1 and 27.4 pb-1, respectively. Jets with different areas are reconstructed using the anti-kT algorithm by varying the distance parameter R. The measurements are performed using jets with transverse momenta (pT) greater than 200 GeV and in a pseudorapidity range of |?| < 2. To reveal the medium modification of the jet spectra in PbPb collisions, the properly normalized ratio of spectra from PbPb and pp data is used to extract jet nuclear modification factors as functions of the PbPb collision centrality, pT and, for the first time, as a function of R up to 1.0. For the most central collisions, a strong suppression is observed for high-pT jets reconstructed with all distance parameters, implying that a significant amount of jet energy is scattered to large angles. The dependence of jet suppression on R is expected to be sensitive to both the jet energy loss mechanism and the medium response, and so the data are compared to several modern event generators and analytic calculations. The two-particle transverse momentum correlator G(2) was introduced as a measure of the momentum current transfer between neighboringsystem cells. The correlators are measured as a function of pair separation in pseudorapidity (Delta eta) and azimuth (Delta phi) and as a function of collision centrality. From peripheral to central collisions, the correlator G(2)(CI) exhibits a longitudinal broadening while undergoing a monotonic azimuthal narrowing. By contrast, G(2)(CD) exhibits a narrowing along both dimensions. These features are not reproduced by models such as HIJING and AMPT. However, the observed narrowing of the correlators from peripheral to central collisions is expected to result from the stronger transverse flow profiles produced in more central collisions and the longitudinal broadening is predicted to be sensitive to momentum currents and the shear viscosity per unit of entropy density./sof the matter produced in the collisions. The results were obtained with a multi-particle technique, correlating the identified hadrons with reference charged particles from a different pseudorapidity region. These non-linear observables probe the contribution from the second and third order initial spatial anisotropy coefficients to higher flow harmonics. All the characteristic features observed in previous p(T) -differential anisotropic flow measurements for various particle species are also present in the non-linear flow modes, i.e. increase of magnitude with increasing centrality percentile, mass ordering at low p(T )and particle type grouping in the intermediate p(T) range. Hydrodynamical calculations (iEBE-VISHNU) that use different initial conditions and values of shear and bulk viscosity to entropy density ratios are confronted with the data at low transverse momenta. These calculations exhibit a better agreement with the anisotropic flow coefficients than the non-linear flow modes. Jet substructure of track-based jets is explored via iterative declustering and grooming techniques. We present the measurement of the momentum sharing of two-prong substructure exposed via grooming, the z(g), and its dependence on the opening angle, in both pp and Pb-Pb collisions. We also present the measurement of the distribution of the number of branches obtained in the iterative declustering of the jet, which is interpreted as the number of its hard splittings. In Pb-Pb collisions, we observe a suppression of symmetric splittings at large opening angles and an enhancement of splittings at small opening angles relative to pp collisions, with no significant modification of the number of splittings. Abstract: The momentum-weighted sum of the electric charges of particles inside a jet, known as jet charge, is sensitive to the electric charge of the particle initiating the parton shower. This paper presents jet charge distributions in root sNN = 5.02 TeV lead-lead (PbPb) and proton-proton (pp) collisions recorded with the CMS detector at the LHC. These data correspond to integrated luminosities of 404 mu b(-1)and 27.4 pb(-1)for PbPb and pp collisions, respectively. Leveraging the sensitivity of the jet charge to fundamental differences in the electric charges of quarks and gluons, the jet charge distributions from simulated events are used as templates to extract the quark- and gluon-like jet fractions from data. The modification of these jet fractions is examined by comparing pp and PbPb data as a function of the overlap of the colliding Pb nuclei (centrality). This measurement tests the color charge dependence of jet energy loss due to interactions with the quark-gluon plasma. The measurement is performed using jets with p(T)(jet) > 60 GeV/c and D-0 mesons with p(T)(D) > 4 GeV/c in lead-lead (Pb-Pb) and proton-proton (pp) collisions at a nucleon-nucleon center-of-mass energy of root s(NN) = 5.02 TeV, recorded by the CMS detector at the LHC. The radial distribution of D-0 mesons with respect to the jet axis is sensitive to the production mechanisms of the meson, as well as to the energy loss and diffusion processes undergone by its parent parton inside the strongly interacting medium produced in Pb-Pb collisions. When compared to Monte Carlo event generators, the radial distribution in pp collisions is found to be well described by PYTHIA, while the slope of the distribution predicted by SHERPA is steeper than that of the data. In Pb-Pb collisions, compared to the pp results, the D-0 meson distribution for 4 < p(T)(D) < 20 GeV/c hints at a larger distance on average with respect to the jet axis, reflecting a diffusion of charm quarks in the medium created in heavy ion collisions. Abstract: The transverse energy (ET gamma) spectra of photons isolated from other particles are measured using proton-proton (pp) and lead-lead (PbPb) collisions at the LHC at root s(NN) = 5.02 TeV with integrated luminosities of 27.4 pb(-1) and 404 mu b(-1) for pp and PbPb data, respectively. The results are presented for photons with 25 < E-T(gamma)< 200 GeV in the pseudorapidity range vertical bar eta vertical bar < 1.44, and for different centrality intervals for PbPb collisions. Photon production in PbPb collisions is consistent with that in pp collisions scaled by the number of binary nucleon-nucleon collisions, demonstrating that photons do not interact with the quark-gluon plasma. Therefore, isolated photons can provide information about the initial energy of the associated parton in photon+jet measurements. The results are compared with predictions from the next-to-leading-order jetphox generator for different parton distribution functions (PDFs) and nuclear PDFs (nPDFs). The top quark, the heaviest elementary particle known, is accessible in nucleus-nucleus collisions at the CERN LHC, and constitutes a novel probe of the QGP. Here, we report the first evidence for the production of top quarks in nucleus-nucleus collisions, using lead-lead collision data at a nucleon-nucleon center-of-mass energy of 5.02 TeV recorded by the CMS experiment. Two methods are used to measure the cross section for top quark pair production (sigma(t (t) over bar)) via the selection of charged leptons (electrons or muons) and bottom quarks. One method relies on the leptonic information alone, and the second one exploits, in addition, the presence of bottom quarks. In this Letter a unique high-precision measurement of the strong interaction between kaons and protons, close and above the kinematic threshold, is presented. The femtoscopic measurements of the correlation function at low pair-frame relative momentum of (K+ p circle plus K- (p) over bar) and (K- p circle plus K+ (p) over bar) pairs measured in pp collisions at root s = 5, 7, and 13 TeV are reported. A structure observed around a relative momentum of 58 MeV/c in the measured correlation function of (K- p circle plus K+ (p) over bar) with a significance of 4.4 sigma constitutes the first experimental evidence for the opening of the ((K) over bar (0)(n) circle plus K-0 (n) over bar) breaking channel due to the mass difference between charged and neutral kaons. The measured correlation functions have been compared to Julich and Kyoto models in addition to the Coulomb potential. From a simultaneous fit to all obtained correlation functions, real and imaginary components of the scattering lengths, as well as the effective ranges, were extracted for combined p (Lambda) over bar and (p) over bar Lambda pairs and, for the first time, for Lambda(Lambda) over bar pairs. Effective averaged scattering parameters for heavier baryon-antibaryon pairs, not measured directly, are also provided. The results reveal similarly strong interaction between measured baryon-antibaryon pairs, suggesting that they all annihilate in the same manner at the same pair relative momentum k*. The spin density matrix element rho(00) is measured at midrapidity (vertical bar y vertical bar < 0.5) in Pb-Pb collisions at a center-of-mass energy root(s)NNof 2.76 TeV with the ALICE detector. rho(00) values are found to be less than 1/3 (1/3 implies no spin alignment) at low transverse momentum (p(T) < 2 GeV / c) for K*(0) and phi at a level of 3 sigma and 2 sigma, respectively. No significant spin alignment is observed for the K-S(0) meson (spin = 0) in Pb-Pb collisions and for the vector mesons in pp collisions. The resonances are measured at midrapidity (vertical bar y vertical bar < 0.5) via their hadronic decay channels and the transverse momentum (p(T)) distributions are obtained for various collision centrality classes up to p(T) = 20 GeV/c. The p(T)-integrated yield ratio K*(892)(0)/K in Pb-Pb collisions shows significant suppression relative to pp collisions and decreases towards more central collisions. In contrast, the phi(1020)/K ratio does not show any suppression. Furthermore, the measured K*(892)(0)/K ratio in central Pb-Pb collisions is significantly suppressed with respect to the expectations based on a thermal model calculation, while the phi(1020)/K ratio agrees with the model prediction. These measurements are an experimental demonstration of rescattering of K*(892)(0) decay products in the hadronic phase of the collisions. The K*(892)(0)/K yield ratios in Pb-Pb and pp collisions are used to estimate the time duration between chemical and kinetic freeze-out, which is found to be similar to 4-7 fm/c for central collisions. The p(T)-differential ratios of K*(892)(0)/K, phi(1020)/K, K*(892)(0)/pi, phi(1020)/pi, p/K*(892)(0) and p/phi(1020) are also presented for Pb-Pb and pp collisions at root s(NN) = 5.02 TeV. The measurement was performed in the centre-of-mass rapidity interval -1.07 < y(cms)< 0.14 and transverse momentum interval 2 < p(T)< 16 GeV/c. The multiplicity dependence of the production of electrons from heavy-flavour hadron decays was studied by comparing the p(T) spectra measured for different multiplicity classes with those measured in pp collisions (Q(pPb)) and in peripheral p-Pb collisions (Q(cp)). The Q(pPb) results obtained are consistent with unity within uncertainties in the measured p(T) interval and event classes. This indicates that heavy-flavour decay electron production is consistent with binary scaling and independent of the geometry of the collision system. The data, corresponding to integrated luminosities of 40.2 nb(-1) and 15.6 mu b(-1) for pp and pPb collisions, respectively, were collected by the CMS experiment. The nuclear modification factor R-pPb, which is defined as the ratio of the particle yield in pPb collisions and a scaled pp reference, is measured for each particle. A strong dependence on particle species is observed in the pT range from 2 to 7 GeV, where R-pPb for K-S(0) is consistent with unity, while an enhancement ordered by strangeness content and/or particle mass is observed for the three baryons. In pPb collisions, the strange hadron production is asymmetric about the nucleon-nucleon center-of-mass rapidity. Enhancements, which depend on the particle type, are observed in the direction of the Pb beam. The results are compared with predictions from EPOS LHC, which includes parametrized radial flow. In this paper we successfully extend this mapping to also include P-T-differential flow. In doing so, we find that subleading principal components of anisotropic flow can reveal previously unobserved details of the hydrodynamic response, in both the linear and the nonlinear regimes. Results obtained with multi-particle correlations are reported for the transverse momentum interval 0.2 < p(T) < 5.0 GeV/c within the pseudorapidity interval 0.4 < vertical bar eta vertical bar < 0.8 as a function of collision centrality. The nu(n) coefficients and chi(n,mk) and rho(n,mk) are presented up to the ninth and seventh harmonic order, respectively. Calculations suggest that the correlations measured in different symmetry planes and the non-linear flow mode coefficients are dependent on the shear and bulk viscosity to entropy ratios of the medium created in heavy-ion collisions. Instead, the equation of state becomes dependent on u mu via modes which are roughly equivalent to ghost modes in the hydrodynamic limit. These modes can be physically imagined as a field of "purcell swimmers" whose "arms and legs" are outstretched in Gauge space. Also, vorticity should couple to the Wilson loop via the chromo-electro-magnetic field tensor, which in local equilibrium is not a "force" but instead represents the polarization tensor of the gluons. We show that because of this coupling vorticity also acquires swirling non-hydrodynamic modes. Porém, em condições de densidade de energia muito alta, é esperado que seja formado um plasma de quarks e glúons, o ‘Quark-Gluon Plasma’ (QGP), no qual quarks e glúons encontram-se desconfinados. Essa matéria em condições extremas pode ser recriada no laboratório, o que é feito atualmente nos aceleradores RHIC, em Nova Iorque, nos Estados Unidos, e LHC, em Genebra, na Suíça. A modelagem destes sistemas é extremamente desafiadora e é usualmente feita através de uma descrição efetiva do QGP na qual é empregada hidrodinâmica relativística para expandir um fluído semi-contínuo, efetivamente utilizando as interações da QCD apenas indiretamente via uma equação de estado que é usada na hidrodinâmica. Neste trabalho, nós nos propomos a não seguir este molde e acoplamos um simulador de interações nucle- ares inspirado na QCD, o PYTHIA/Angantyr, e um simulador de cascata hadrônica, o UrQMD, para simular colisões nucleares isentas de QGP e nas quais a modelagem é feita de forma tal que cada interação é acompanhada de forma precisa pelos modelos. Os resultados da nossa cadeia de simulação PYTHIA/Angantyr + UrQMD indicam que vários dos sinais usualmente atribuídos exclusivamente à presença de um QGP na realidade já aparecem mesmo na ausência deste. Desta forma, este trabalho sugere forte- mente que é necessária mais atenção a modelos controle, nos quais não há QGP, para isolar efeitos exclusivamente devidos ao QGP. Finalmente, este trabalho ainda aponta uma direção nova para a modelagem de colisões de íons pesados na qual as interações são todas rastreadas e realizadas individualmente, ao contrário do que é usualmente feito na literatura de íons pesados Abstract: In typical conditions, nuclear matter is comprised of quarks confined into hadrons such as protons and neutrons. However, at very high energy densities, matter may undergo a phase transition into a quark-gluon plasma (QGP) in which quarks and gluons are no longer confined into hadrons. This exotic state of matter can be recreated in a laboratory by colliding two heavy nuclei at relativistic energies, as is done at RHIC, in New York, USA, as well as at the LHC, in Geneva, Switzerland. Modeling the evolution of the QGP is a very challenging task that is usually done employing an effective description using hydrodynamics to expand a fluid. In these codes, base QCD interactions are only sampled indirectly and are encoded in an Equation of State that is used in hydrodynamics. In this work, we propose an alternate approach in which we use a QCD-inspired nuclear collision simulator, PYTHIA/Angantyr, coupled to a hadronic cascade simulator, UrQMD, to generate a full nuclear collision without a QGP and in which each and every interaction is tracked individually and modeled to the best of our knowledge in terms of QCD. The results from this PYTHIA/Angantyr + UrQMD simulation chain suggest that several signatures of the QGP are already present even in a system in which no locally equilibrated plasma is present. Therefore, this work suggests that further developments in control models in which no QGP is present is needed to truly isolate QGP-related effects. Finally, this work also points to a bold new direction in heavy-ion collision modeling in which all interactions are tracked and executed individually with QCD as much as possible, in contrast to the vast majority of modeling efforts in the field of heavy-ion collisions Doutorado Física Doutor em Ciências CAPES 001 CNPQ 165762/2014-4

The measurements, which rely on the pi(+)pi(-) decay channel, are presented in three regions of rapidity covering the range vertical bar y vertical bar < 0.8. For each rapidity interval, cross sections are shown for different nuclear-breakup classes defined according to the presence of neutrons measured in the zero-degree calorimeters. The results are compared with predictions based on different models of nuclear shadowing. We studied these modifications via angular correlations of jets with charged hadrons for jets with momenta 20 < P-T(jet)< 40 GeV/c as a function of the associated particle momentum. The reaction plane fit method is used in this analysis to remove the flow modulated background. The analysis of angular correlations for different orientations of the jet relative to the second order event plane allows for the study of the path length dependence of medium modifications to jets. We present the dependence of azimuthal angular correlations of charged hadrons with respect to the angle of the axis of a reconstructed jet relative to the event plane in Pb-Pb collisions at root s(NN) = 2.76 TeV. The dependence of particle yields associated with jets on the angle of the jet with respect to the event plane is presented. Correlations at different angles relative to the event plane are compared through ratios and differences of the yield. Multiparticle correlations are used to isolate global properties stemming from the collision overlap geometry. The second-order "elliptic" harmonic moment is obtained with high precision through four-, six-, and eight-particle correlations and, for the first time, the third-order "triangular" harmonic moment is studied using four-particle correlations. A sample of peripheral PbPb collisions at root s(NN) = 5.02 TeV that covers a similar range of event multiplicities as the pPb results is also analyzed. Model calculations of initial-state fluctuations in pPb and PbPb collisions can be directly compared to the high-precision experimental results. The inclusive J/psi RAA shows a suppression increasing toward higher transverse momentum, with a steeper dependence for central collisions. The modification of the J/psi average transverse momentum and average squared transverse momentum is also studied. The results are reported differentially as a function of collision centrality and hyperon's transverse momentum (pT) for the range of centrality 5-50%, 0.5 < pT < 5 GeV/c, and rapidity vertical bar y vertical bar < 0.5. The hyperon global polarization averaged for Pb-Pb collisions at root s(NN) = 2.76 and 5.02 TeV is found to be consistent with zero, < P-H > (%) approximate to 0.01 +/- 0.06 (stat.) +/- 0.03 (syst.) in the collision centrality range 15-50%, where the largest signal is expected. The source radius is studied with low relative momentum p-p, (p) over bar-(p) over bar, p-Lambda, and p-(Lambda) over bar pairs as a function of the pair transverse mass m(T) considering for the first time in a quantitative way the effect of strong resonance decays. After correcting for this effect, the radii extracted for pairs of different particle species agree. This indicates that protons, antiprotons, (Lambda) over bars, and (Lambda) over bars originate from the same source. Within the measured mTrange (1.1-2.2) GeV/c(2) the invariant radius of this common source varies between 1.3 and 0.85 fm.
