Abstract

We provide an updated assessment of the power of the Cherenkov Telescope Array (CTA) to search for thermally produced dark matter at the TeV scale, via the associated gamma-ray signal from pair-annihilating dark matter particles in the region around the Galactic centre. We find that CTA will open a new window of discovery potential, significantly extending the range of robustly testable models given a standard cuspy profile of the dark matter density distribution. Importantly, even for a cored profile, the projected sensitivity of CTA will be sufficient to probe various well-motivated models of thermally produced dark matter at the TeV scale. This is due to CTA's unprecedented sensitivity, angular and energy resolutions, and the planned observational strategy. The survey of the inner Galaxy will cover a much larger region than corresponding previous observational campaigns with imaging atmospheric Cherenkov telescopes. CTA will map with unprecedented precision the large-scale diffuse emission in high-energy gamma rays, constituting a background for dark matter searches for which we adopt state-of-the-art models based on current data. Throughout our analysis, we use up-to-date event reconstruction Monte Carlo tools developed by the CTA consortium, and pay special attention to quantifying the level of instrumental systematic uncertainties, as well as background template systematic errors, required to probe thermally produced dark matter at these energies. Abstract

The Cherenkov Telescope Array (CTA) is the next generation of Imaging Atmospheric Cherenkov Telescopes. It will reach a sensitivity and energy resolution never obtained until now by any other high energy gamma-ray experiment. Understanding the systematic uncertainties in general will be a crucial issue for the performance of CTA. It is well known that atmospheric conditions contribute particularly in this aspect.Within the CTA consortium several groups are currently building Raman LIDARs to be installed on the two sites. Raman LIDARs are devices composed of a powerful laser that shoots into the atmosphere, a collector that gathers the backscattered light from molecules and aerosols, a photo-sensor, an optical module that spectrally selects wavelengths of interest, and a read--out system.Unlike currently used elastic LIDARs, they can help reduce the systematic uncertainties of the molecular and aerosol components of the atmosphere to <5% so that CTA can achieve its energy resolution requirements of<10% uncertainty at 1 TeV.All the Raman LIDARs in this work have design features that make them different than typical Raman LIDARs used in atmospheric science and are characterized by large collecting mirrors (2.5m2) and reduced acquisition time.They provide both multiple elastic and Raman read-out channels and custom made optics design.In this paper, the motivation for Raman LIDARs, the design and the status of advance of these technologies are described., Comment: All CTA contributions at arXiv:1709.03483

Abstract

Porosity is one of the major problems in casting operations and there are several discussions in the literature about the porosity formation in aluminum castings. Bifilms are the defects that are introduced into the melt by turbulence. They can be detected with reduced pressure test and presented numerically by measuring bifilm index. The measure of bifilm index is the sum of total oxide length given in millimeters from the cross-section of reduced pressure test sample solidified under 0.01 MPa. In this work, low pressure die casting (LPDC) unit was built in an attempt to enhance the producibility rate. The unit consists of a pump housing that was placed inside the melt in the melting furnace where the pressure was applied instead of the whole melt surface. It was observed that the melt quality of A356 alloy was deteriorated over time which had led to higher porosity. This was attributed to the increased oxide thickness of the bifilm by the consumption of air in between the folded oxides. A relationship was found between bifilm index and pore formation.

Abstract

Aluminum alloys are widely used in the industry thanks to its many advantages such as light weight and high strength. The use of this material in the market is increasing day by day with the developing technology. Due to the high energy inputs in the primary production, the use of secondary ingots by recycling from scrap material are more advantageous. However, the liquid metal quality is quite important in the use of secondary aluminum. It is believed that the quality of recycled aluminum is low, for this purpose, many liquid metal cleaning methods and test methods are used in the industry to assess the melt cleanliness level. In this study, it is aimed to examine the liquid metal quality in castings with varying temperature using K mold. A206 alloy was used, and the test parameters were selected as: (i) at 725 °C, 750 °C and 775 °C casting temperatures, (ii) different hydrogen levels. The hydrogen level was adjusted as low, medium and high with degassing, as-cast, and upgassing of the melt, respectively. The liquid metal quality of the cast samples was examined by the K mold technique. When the results were examined, it was determined that metal K values and the number of inclusions were high at the as-cast and up-gas liquid with increasing casting temperatures. It has been understood that the K mold technique is a practical method for the determination of liquid metal quality, if there is no reduced pressure test machine available at the foundry floor. 6. Therapeutic effects of cinnamon bark oil on sciatic nerve injury in rats.

Abstract

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of cinnamon bark essential oil (CBO) on analgesia, motor activity, balance, and coordination in rats with sciatic nerve damage. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Rats were divided into three groups as simply randomized. The right sciatic nerve (RSN) of the Sham group was explored. Only vehicle solution was applied for 28 days. The RSN of the sciatic nerve injury (SNI) group was explored. Damage was created by unilateral clamping, and vehicle solution was applied for 28 days. The RSN of the sciatic nerve injury+cinnamon bark essential oil (SNI+CBO) group was explored. SNI was created by unilateral clamping and CBO was applied for 28 days. In the experiment study, motor activity, balance, and coordination measurements were made with rotarod and accelerod tests. A hot plate test was performed for analgesia measurements. Histopathology studies were carried out with the sciatic nerve tissues. RESULTS: In the rotarod test, there was a statistically significant difference between the SNI group and the SNI+CBO group (p<0.05). According to the accelerod test findings, there was a statistically significant difference between the SNI group with the Sham and SNI+CBO groups. In the hot plate test, there was a statistically significant difference between the SNI group with the Sham and SNI+CBO groups (p<0.05). In comparison to the Sham group and the SNI group, the SNI+CBO group was shown to have the greatest expression level of vimentin. CONCLUSIONS: We have concluded that CBO can be used as an adjuvant treatment in cases of SNI, increased pain, nociception, impaired balance, motor activity, and coordination. 7. Prediction of Postcoronary Artery Bypass Grafting Atrial Fibrillation: POAFRiskScore Tool.

Abstract

Background Atrial fibrillation (AF), a condition that might occur after a heart bypass procedure, has caused differing estimates of its occurrence and risk. The current study analyses the possible risk factors of post-coronary artery bypass grafting (post-CABG) AF (postoperative AF [POAF]) and presents a software for preoperative POAF risk prediction. Methods This retrospective research was performed on 1,667 patients who underwent CABG surgery using the hospital database. The associations between the variables of the patients and AF risk factors after CABG were examined using multivariable logistic regression (LR) after preprocessing the relevant data. The tool was designed to predict POAF risk using Shiny, an R package, to develop a web-based software. Results The overall proportion of post-CABG AF was 12.2%. According to the results of univariate tests, in terms of age (p < 0.001), blood urea nitrogen (p = 0.005), platelet (p < 0.001), triglyceride (p = 0.0026), presence of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD; p = 0.01), and presence of preoperative carotid artery stenosis (PCAS; p < 0.001), there were statistically significant differences between the POAF and non-POAF groups. Multivariable LR analysis disclosed the independent risk factors associated with POAF: PCAS (odds ratio [OR] = 2.360; p = 0.028), COPD (OR = 2.243; p = 0.015), body mass index (OR = 1.090; p = 0.006), age (OR = 1.054, p < 0.001), and platelet (OR = 0.994, p < 0.001). Conclusion The experimental findings from the current research demonstrate that the suggested tool (POAFRiskScore v.1.0) can help clinicians predict POAF risk development in the preoperative period after validated on large sample(s) that can represent the related population(s). Simultaneously, since the updated versions of the proposed tool will be released periodically based on the increases in data dimensions with continuously added new samples and related factors, more robust predictions may be obtained in the subsequent stages of the current study in statistical and clinical terms. Abstract

Aim: The first imaging method to play an vital role in the diagnosis of COVID-19 illness is the chest X-ray. Because of the abundance of large-scale annotated picture datasets, convolutional neural networks (CNNs) have shown considerable performance in image recognition/classification. The current study aims to construct a successful deep learning model that can distinguish COVID-19 from healthy controls using chest X-ray images. Material and Methods: The dataset in the study consists of subjects with 912 negative and 912 positive PCR results. A prediction model was built using VGG-16 with transfer learning for classifying COVID-19 chest X-ray images. The data set was split at random into 80% training and 20% testing groups. Results: The accuracy, F1 score, sensitivity, specificity, positive and negative values from the model that can successfully distinguish COVID-19 from healthy controls are 97.3%, 97.3%, 97.8%, 96.7%, 96.7%, and 97.8% regarding the testing dataset, respectively. Conclusion: The suggested technique might greatly improve on current radiology-based methodologies and serve as a beneficial tool for clinicians/radiologists in diagnosing and following up on COVID-19 patients. 14. Sirt4 Prevents Excitotoxicity Via Modulating Glutamate Metabolism In Glioma Cells

Abstract

Excitotoxicity is the presence of excessive glutamate, which is normally taken up by glutamate transporters on astrocytes. Glutamate transporter 1 (GLT-1) is the major transporter on glia cells clearing more than 90% of the glutamate. Sirtuin 4 (SIRT4) is a mitochondrial sirtuin which is expressed in the brain. Previously, it was shown that loss of SIRT4 leads to a more severe reaction to kainic acid, an excitotoxic agent, and also decreased GLT-1 expression in the brain. In this study, we aimed to investigate whether overexpression of SIRT4 is protective against excitotoxicity in glia cells. We overexpressed SIRT4 in A172 glioma cell line and treated with kainic acid in order to induce excitotoxicity. We observed that SIRT4 overexpression increased the cell viability after kainic acid treatment. In addition, reduced glutamate was detected in glutamate assay with overexpression of SIRT4 after kainic acid treatment since SIRT4 decreased cell death by preventing excitotoxicity. Our results show that overexpression of SIRT4 increased the protein levels of GLT-1 and glutamate dehydrogenase (GDH) after kainic acid (KA) treatment so that excess glutamate can be absorbed. However, overexpression of SIRT4 decreased glutamine synthetase (GS) levels. These results demonstrate that, by inhibiting GS, SIRT4 prevents glutamine formation, which will be converted to glutamate in neurons. SIRT4 prevents excitotoxicity via upregulating glutamate metabolism. Finally, our results may show that SIRT4 might prevent excitotoxicity and related cell death via reducing GS expression and upregulating GLT-1 and GDH levels. Therefore, it is important to develop therapeutics against excitotoxicity through SIRT4-related pathways in the cell.

Abstract

We present a measurement of the extragalactic background light (EBL) based on a joint likelihood analysis of 32 gamma-ray spectra for 12 blazars in the redshift range z = 0.03–0.944, obtained by the MAGIC telescopes and Fermi-LAT. The EBL is the part of the diffuse extragalactic radiation spanning the ultraviolet, visible, and infrared bands. Major contributors to the EBL are the light emitted by stars through the history of the Universe, and the fraction of it that was absorbed by dust in galaxies and re-emitted at longer wavelengths. The EBL can be studied indirectly through its effect on very high energy photons that are emitted by cosmic sources and absorbed via γγ interactions during their propagation across cosmological distances. We obtain estimates of the EBL density in good agreement with state-of-the-art models of the EBL production and evolution. The 1σ upper bounds, including systematic uncertainties, are between 13 per cent and 23 per cent above the nominal EBL density in the models. No anomaly in the expected transparency of the Universe to gamma-rays is observed in any range of optical depth. We also perform a wavelength-resolved EBL determination, which results in a hint of an excess of EBL in the 0.18–0.62 μm range relative to the studied models, yet compatible with them within systematics.

Abstract

Porosity is one of the major problems in casting operations and there are several discussions in the literature about the porosity formation in aluminum castings. Bifilms are the defects that are introduced into the melt by turbulence. They can be detected with reduced pressure test and presented numerically by measuring bifilm index. The measure of bifilm index is the sum of total oxide length given in millimeters from the cross-section of reduced pressure test sample solidified under 0.01 MPa. In this work, low pressure die casting (LPDC) unit was built in an attempt to enhance the producibility rate. The unit consists of a pump housing that was placed inside the melt in the melting furnace where the pressure was applied instead of the whole melt surface. It was observed that the melt quality of A356 alloy was deteriorated over time which had led to higher porosity. This was attributed to the increased oxide thickness of the bifilm by the consumption of air in between the folded oxides. A relationship was found between bifilm index and pore formation. Abstract

Monthly notices of the Royal Astronomical Society 472(3), 2956 - 2962 (2017). doi:10.1093/mnras/stx2079, It is widely believed that the bulk of the Galactic cosmic rays is accelerated in supernova remnants (SNRs). However, no observational evidence of the presence of particles of PeV energies in SNRs has yet been found. The young historical SNR Cassiopeia A (Cas A) appears as one of the best candidates to study acceleration processes. Between 2014 December and 2016 October, we observed Cas A with the MAGIC telescopes, accumulating 158 h of good quality data. We derived the spectrum of the source from 100 GeV to 10 TeV. We also analysed ∼8 yr of Fermi-LAT to obtain the spectral shape between 60 MeV and 500 GeV. The spectra measured by the LAT and MAGIC telescopes are compatible within the errors and show a clear turn-off (4.6σ) at the highest energies, which can be described with an exponential cut-off at $E_c = 3.5(^{+1.6}_{-1.0})_{{\rm stat}} (^{+0.8}_{-0.9})_{{\rm sys}}$ TeV. The gamma-ray emission from 60 MeV to 10 TeV can be attributed to a population of high-energy protons with a spectral index of ∼2.2 and an energy cut-off at ∼10 TeV. This result indicates that Cas A is not contributing to the high energy (∼PeV) cosmic ray sea in a significant manner at the present moment. A one-zone leptonic model fails to reproduce by itself the multiwavelength spectral energy distribution. Besides, if a non-negligible fraction of the flux seen by MAGIC is produced by leptons, the radiation should be emitted in a region with a low magnetic field (B⪅180 μG) like in the reverse shock., Published by Oxford Univ. Abstract

The in vitro reduction of a bacterial population in a root canal by mechanical instrumentation using three techniques was evaluated. Root canals inoculated with a Enterococcus faecalis (E. faecalis) suspension were instrumented using hand Hedstroem files, Giromatic files, and Hero 642 rotary instruments. Irrigation was performed using sterile saline solution. Root canals were sampled before and after instrumentation. After serial dilutions, samples were plated onto Mitis-Salivarius agar and the colony forming units grown were counted. All instruments tested were able to significantly reduce the number of bacterial cells in the root canal, however, the results of this study indicated that Hedstroem files, Giromatic, and Hero 642 techniques were not significantly different in their ability to reduce intracanal bacteria. Twenty patients undergoing CABG were included in the study. The patients were divided into control and amiodarone groups (n=10 in each group). The patients in group 1 did not receive any drugs. The patients in group II received 4X400 mg/day amiodarone on the day before surgery, 2X600 mg/day amiodarone on the day of surgery, and 2X400 mg/day amiodarone for the first consecutive four days after the surgery. NO, MDA, SOD, GSH-px, and CAT values were measured for biochemical evaluation of oxidative stress before the induction of anesthesia (T-A), before CPB (T-CPB), five minutes after the clamp was removed (T-c), after protamine (T-P), and on postoperative days 1 (T-1), 3 (T-3), and 5 (T-5). Hemodynamic changes of all patients were recorded at before the induction of anesthesia (TA), before CPB (TCPB), after protamine (T-P), and on postoperative day 1 (T1). Amiodarone elevated NO levels at all times during the study period but did not cause changes in MDA, SOD, GSH-px, or CAT. In addition, amiodarone decreased mean pulmonary artery pressure, pulmonary capillary wedge pressure, and heart rate in these patients. No side effect due to drug was observed. Abstract

OBJECTIVE: To determine the prevalence, height, location, orientation, and type of maxillary sinus septa in atrophic, non-atrophic, and partially atrophic maxillary segments using cone beam computerized tomography (CBCT). PATIENTS AND METHODS: This cross-sectional study was conducted on a retrospective evaluation of CBCT images of 1000 maxillary sinus with 500 subjects from December 2009 to December 2012. The differences among gender, left and right side of maxillary sinus, type of crest and feature of septa were statistically analyzed. RESULTS: A total of 297 septa was recorded in 1000 maxillary sinuses (29.7%) with a mean height was 4.62±2.50 mm. Forty-four (8.7%) septa were located in the anterior area, 123 (24.5%) in the middle area, and 131 (26.4%) in the posterior area. Seventy maxillary sinus septa (26.1%) were observed with a mediolateral type orientation. There were no significant differences between all features of maxillary sinus septa and gender or type of crest. The only significant association identified was between type of crest and type of septa. CONCLUSIONS: The maxillary sinus septa exhibited variable characteristics according to orientation and type of crest. 35. Sintering properties of the Bornova shale (Turkey) and its application in the production of red fired ceramics

Abstract

The aim of this work was to evaluate the use of the Bornova shale (BS) from Bornova-lzmir, west Turkey, as a raw material in the production of red fired ceramics. The Bornova-lzmir area is a convenient region for establishing a ceramics factory in terms of climate and proximity to Izmir harbour. The BS consists of phyllosilicates (illite, chlorite, and smectite), quartz, feldspar; and calcite. The dominant clay minerals are either illite or chlorite with smectite making up 0-7%. Differential thermal analysis (DTA) reveals that an amorphous phase occurs above 918 degrees C. For the production of red fired ceramics, we used illite-and chlorite-rich BS in the following proportions: addition of 40% Fe-rich Eymir (Havran) kaolin (EK) to the BS, addition of EK (40%) and 2% Bigadic Borate Concentrator Waste (BBCW), addition of EK (40%) and 3% BBCW, and addition of only 2% BBCW. Representative samples were prepared by pressing clay bodies at 15 MPa, which were then fired at temperatures between 850 and 1200 degrees C. The physical properties of the representative samples (e.g., water absorption and bending strength) were obtained from specific tests. Based on the desired colour and physical characteristics, the optimum batch was that with 98% BS + 2% BBCW fired at 1100 degrees C. Addition of BBCW to the BS imparts binding and fluxing properties during the production process. These properties, in turn, improve mechanical strength and reduce energy usage.

Abstract

In recent years, fuel cell systems have been popular as electricity production systems these are clean, environmental-friendly, modular, and independent from fossil fuels. In Pamukkale University Clean Energy House, Denizli-Turkey, 1.2 kWp hydrogen-fuel cell-DC micro grid system was set up to investigate the fuel cells with DC power distribution. In the system, electricity is generated by 1.2 kWp PEm fuel cell unit. Hydrogen is transformed to DC electrical energy by fuel cell in the case of its necessity and then, DC electricity produced by fuel cell is distributed via DC power box consisting of 2 DC/DC converters, circuit breakers and monitored by data acquisition equipments. DC electricity is consumed by DC loads such as 44 lamps, freezer/refrigerator, 2 fans, TV, vacuum cleaner and circulation pump. Abstract

This study was designed to determine the pin head formation time and yield values of Agaricus bisporus on some casing materials. Composts were prepared basically from wheat straw and waste tea leaves by using wheat chaff as activator substance. Temperatures of the compost formulas were measured during composting at various depths in order to determine the compostability level. Results showed that in both compost types, maximum temperature values were recorded in the second turning stage. Composting was completed in 21 days for both composts. While the fastest pin head formation (12.50 days) was obtained on wheat straw based compost using peat of Bolu (PB) and peat of Agacbasi (PA) (50+50; in volume); waste tea leaves based compost using peat of Caykara (PC) and forest soil (FS) mixture (50+50; in volume) as casing material gave the fastest pin head formation (13.25 days). In terms of yield, a mixture of peat of Bolu and peat of Agacbasi (PA) (50+50; in volume) gave the highest yieldfor wheat straw based compost, a mixture of peat of Agacbasi and perlite (P) (80+20; involume) had the highest yield for waste tea leaves based compost.

Abstract

Three compost formulas (formula I, formula II, and formula III) based waste tea leaves and using some activator materials such as wheat bran, chicken manure and pigeon manure were studied for Agaricusbisporus cultivation. Some locally available peats such as peat of Bolu, peat of Agacbasi, peat of Caykara and theirs mixture (80:20; volume : volume) with perlite were used. Temperature values of allcompost formulas during composting process were measured to determine the compostability level. According to results, compost temparature steadily increased until the 8th, 9th, and 9th day ofcomposting for formula I, formula II, and formula III, respectively. The maximum compost temperature values were measured for all compost formulas at the second turning stage of composting process.The highest compost temperature values were measured prepared from a mixture of waste tea leaves and wheat bran (formula I). The best mushroom yield was obtained by a mixture of waste tea leaves andpigeon manure with the peat of Caykara and perlite mixture as casing material. Peat of Caykara gave higher mushroom yield than those of other peats.

In February 2007, a clean energy research facility consisting of a 5 kWp photovoltaic system and a 2.4 kWp hydrogen-fuel cell system was built to investigate these energy production technologies at Pamukkale University in Denizli, Turkey. In this hybrid energy system, electricity is generated by photovoltaic panels. Generated electrical energy is stored chemically in batteries and metal hydride hydrogen canisters. Hydrogen electrolyzed from water is transformed to DC electrical energy by two fuel cells in the case of its necessity. DC electricity produced by photovoltaic panels and fuel cells is converted to AC by two inverters for the requirements of the building. In this study, an electrical energy analysis of the building, in terms of energy efficiency, harmonics, voltage changes, voltage and current sags, voltage and current swells, transients, power outage, frequency changes etc., is performed to evaluate the power quality of the hybrid energy system. In addition, some measurements such as insulation resistance, loop impedance, line impedance, grounding resistance, and specific resistance of the ground are measured to obtain the electrical characteristics of the system. Abstract

A total of 400 teat canals were investigated with a linear array ultrasound probe. The teat canal was observed as a hyperechogenic line at the tip of the teat. Twenty percent of the examined teat canals showed a crooked course, whereas in 80%, a linear course was observed. There was no statistically significant difference among teats of crooked teat canal and lateral aspects of teats. The mean length of teat canal was found to be 1 1.51 +/- 0.01 min. It was demonstrated that the length of the teat canal and milk yield were affected by the animals' age. The teat canals were the shortest in young cows and these cows showed the highest milk yield. On the other hand, older cows with the longest teat canals showed the least milk yield. It was concluded that the ultrasonographic examination was effective in teat canal imaging and morphological assessment. The observation of the location of the canal within teats and its course was essential.

Abstract

The ability of Sternbergia candida (SB Candidum Mathew.) extract to suppress attack by Postia placenta (Fries) M. Larsen et Lombard (Mad 698), (a brown-rot) and Trametes versicolor (L.ex Fr.) Quel. (a white-rot) was investigated. The extract was dissolved from Sterinbergia Candidum's bulb and leaves in 96% ethyl alcohol. Poisonous extract impregnated into wood blocks of Turkish oriental beech (Fagus orientalis L.) and Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.). Extract dosages were 0.25, 0.75, 1.50 and 3.00%. Treated blocks were exposed to P. placenta and T. versicolor attack for 12 weeks by the soil block method. Only extract dosages of 0.25 and 0.75% were found efficacious in suppressing attack. A tukey studentized test found both dosages significant at 5% level. In conclusion, the poisonous extracts could be used as effective wood preservative when concentration was adjusted. © 2007 Academic Journals.

Abstract

It is well known that adding small amounts of Ti and B into aluminium casting alloys increase the fluidity, feedability, strength, fatigue resistance and pressure tightness. These occur because of Ti and B within the master alloys create heterogeneous nucleation sites by forming such intermetallic compounds as TiB2, Al3Ti and AlB2. It is also known that the solidification time is influential on the formation of final grain size of aluminium cast parts. However the combining effects of both grain refining and solidification time has not been studied properly. Therefore, in this work, the effects of the grain refining and solidification time have been investigated on a sand-cast Al-4wt%Cu alloy. Abstract

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effects of N-acetylcysteine (NAC) on pulmonary function tests and arterial blood gases in patients undergoing on-pump coronary artery surgery. PATIENTS AND METHODS: The effect of NAC was assessed within the scope of a prospective, single center, double-blind, placebo-controlled, parallel group study. Eighty-two patients undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting were randomized into two groups to receive either placebo (group 1, n = 40) or NAC (group 2, n=42). Both the NAC group and the placebo-receiving control group also included a COPD subgroup consist ing of pat ients wi th an FEV1/FVC ratio of < 0.7 and an FEV1 value of 50- 80%. Pulmonary function tests were performed preoperatively and on postoperative day 60. RESULTS: Both groups were similar with respect to age, gender, preoperative risk factors, ejection fraction (EF), mean cross-clamp time, ventilation time, intensive care unit (ICU) stay, atrial fibrillation (AF) and hospital stay (p > 0.05). Postoperative FVC and FEV1 values in group 1 and the postoperative FEV1, FEV1/FVC and FEF 25-75 values in group 2 were lower in comparison to their preoperative values. However, in both group 1 and 2, the decreases observed in these parameters were not statistically significant (p > 0.05). In the COPD subgroup of group 1, a postoperative decrease was observed in the FEV1 and FEF25-75 values, with the FEV1 decreasing by 4.55%, and the FEF25-75 decreasing by 4.2% (p < 0.05). In the COPD subgroup of group 2, no significant decrease was observed in the pulmonary function test values (p > 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: This study demonstrated that NAC administration in COPD patients undergoing on-pump coronary artery surgery resulted in the preservation of pulmonary functions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
