Simple integral inequalities as well as some $n=2$, $4$, $6$, $8$, $9$, and $14$ examples are also given. A prominent result is that $$\int_0^\infty \eta^6 (ix)dx= \int_0^\infty x\eta^6 (ix)dx ={1 \over {8\pi}}\left({{\Gamma(1/4)} \over {\Gamma(3/4)}}\right)^2,$$ where $\Gamma$ is the Gamma function. Then a list is given in Russell-style of generalizations of integral identities of Amdeberhan and Moll. The well known table of Gradshteyn and Ryzhik contains indefinite and definite integrals of both elementary and special functions. We give proofs of several entries containing integrands with some combination of hyperbolic and trigonometric functions. In fact, we occasionally present an extension of such entries or else give alternative evaluations. We develop connections with special cases of special functions including the Hurwitz zeta function. The (generalised) Mellin transforms of certain Chebyshev and Gegenbauer functions based upon the Chebyshev and Gegenbauer polynomials, have polynomial factors $p_n(s)$, whose zeros lie all on the `critical line' $\Re\,s=1/2$ or on the real axis (called critical polynomials). The transforms are identified in terms of combinatorial sums related to H. W. Gould's S:4/3, S:4/2 and S:3/1 binomial coefficient forms. Their `critical polynomial' factors are then identified as variants of the S:4/1 form, and more compactly in terms of certain $_3F_2(1)$ hypergeometric functions. Furthermore, we extend these results to a $1$-parameter family of polynomials with zeros only on the critical line. These polynomials possess the functional equation $p_n(s;\beta)=\pm p_n(1-s;\beta)$, similar to that for the Riemann xi function. It is shown that via manipulation of the binomial factors, these `critical polynomials' can be simplified to an S:3/2 form, which after normalisation yields the rational function $q_n(s).$ The denominator of the rational form has singularities on the negative real axis, and so $q_n(s)$ has the same `critical zeros' as the `critical polynomial' $p_n(s)$. Moreover as $s\rightarrow \infty$ along the positive real axis, $q_n(s)\rightarrow 1$ from below, mimicking $1/\zeta(s)$ on the positive real line. In the case of the Chebyshev parameters we deduce the simpler S:2/1 binomial form, and with $\mathcal{C}_n$ the $n$th Catalan number, $s$ an integer, we show that polynomials $4\mathcal{C}_{n-1}p_{2n}(s)$ and $\mathcal{C}_{n}p_{2n+1}(s)$ yield integers with only odd prime factors. The Stieltjes constants $\gamma_k(a)$ appear in the regular part of the Laurent expansion for the Hurwitz zeta function $\zeta(s,a)$. We present summatory results for these constants $\gamma_k(a)$ in terms of fundamental mathematical constants such as the Catalan constant, and further relate them to products of rational functions of prime numbers. We provide examples of infinite series of differences of Stieltjes constants evaluating as volumes in hyperbolic $3$-space. We present a new series representation for the difference of the first Stieltjes constant at rational arguments. We illustrate the adiabatic quantum computing solution of the knapsack problem with both integer profits and weights. For problems with $n$ objects (or items) and integer capacity $c$, we give specific examples using both an Ising class problem Hamiltonian requiring $n+c$ qubits and a much more efficient one using $n+[\log_2 c]+1$ qubits. The discussion includes a brief mention of classical algorithms for knapsack, applications of this commonly occurring problem, and the relevance of further studies both theoretically and numerically of the behavior of the energy gap. Included too is a demonstration and commentary on a version of quantum search using a certain Ising model. The Riemann zeta identity at even integers of Lettington, along with his other Bernoulli and zeta relations, are generalized. Other corresponding recurrences and determinant relations are illustrated. Another consequence is the application to sums of double zeta values. A set of identities for the Ramanujan and generalized Ramanujan polynomials is presented. An alternative proof of Lettington's identity is provided, together with its generalizations to the Hurwitz and Lerch zeta functions, hence to Dirichlet $L$ series, to Eisenstein series, and to general Mellin transforms. The Hurwitz numbers $\tilde{H}_n$ occur in the Laurent expansion about the origin of a certain Weierstrass $\wp$ function for a square lattice, and are highly analogous to the Bernoulli numbers. An integral representation of the Laurent coefficients about the origin for general $\wp$ functions, and for these numbers in particular, is presented. As a Corollary, the asymptotic form of the Hurwitz numbers is determined. We principally present reductions of certain generalized hypergeometric functions $_3F_2(\pm 1)$ in terms of products of elementary functions. Most of these results have been known for some time, but one of the methods, wherein we simultaneously solve for three alternating binomial sums, may be new. We obtain a functional equation holding for all three of this set of alternating binomial sums. Using successive derivatives, we show how related chains of $_3F_2(\pm 1)$ values may be obtained. It may be emphasized that we make no reliance on the WZ method for hypergeometric summation. We study higher-dimensional interlacing Fibonacci sequences, generated via both Chebyshev type functions and $m$-dimensional recurrence relations. For each integer $m$, there exist both rational and integer versions of these sequences, where the underlying prime congruence structures of the rational sequence denominators enables the integer sequence to be recovered. From either the rational or the integer sequences we construct sequences of vectors in $\mathbb{Q}^m$, which converge to irrational algebraic points in $\mathbb{R}^m$. The rational sequence terms can be expressed as simple recurrences, trigonometric sums, binomial polynomials, sums of squares, and as sums over ratios of powers of the signed diagonals of the regular unit $n$-gon. These sequences also exhibit a "rainbow type" quality, and correspond to the Fleck numbers at negative indices, leading to some combinatorial identities involving binomial coefficients. It is shown that the families of orthogonal generating polynomials defining the recurrence relations employed, are divisible by the minimal polynomials of certain algebraic numbers, and the three-term recurrences and differential equations for these polynomials are derived. Further results relating to the Christoffel-Darboux formula, Rodrigues' formula and raising and lowering operators are also discussed. Moreover, it is shown that the Mellin transforms of these polynomials satisfy a functional equation of the form $p_n(s)=\pm p_n(1-s)$, and have zeros only on the critical line Re $s=1/2$., Comment: 45 pages

Supersymmetric quantum mechanics has many applications, and typically uses a raising and lowering operator formalism. For one dimensional problems, we show how such raising and lowering operators may be generalized to include an arbitrary function. As a result, the usual Rodrigues' formula of the theory of orthogonal polynomials may be recovered in special cases, and it may otherwise be generalized to incorporate an arbitrary function. We provide example generalized operators for several important classical orthogonal polynomials, including Chebyshev, Gegenbauer, and other polynomials. The Stieltjes constants $\gamma_k(a)$ appear as the coefficients in the regular part of the Laurent expansion of the Hurwitz zeta function $\zeta(s,a)$ about $s=1$. We present the evaluation of $\gamma_1(a)$ and $\gamma_2(a)$ at rational argument, being of interest to theoretical and computational analytic number theory and elsewhere. We give multiplication formulas for $\gamma_0(a)$, $\gamma_1(a)$, and $\gamma_2(a)$, and point out that these formulas are cases of an addition formula previously presented. We present certain integral evaluations generalizing Gauss' formula for the digamma function at rational argument. Optical vortex fields have applications in information processing and storage and in the manipulation of microscopic particles. We present analytic results for quantities describing the extent of spatial coherence and entropy of one-dimensional projections of a vortex field. The modified Bernoulli numbers \begin{equation*} B_{n}^{*} = \sum_{r=0}^{n} \binom{n+r}{2r} \frac{B_{r}}{n+r}, \quad n > 0 \end{equation*} introduced by D. Zagier in 1998 were recently extended to the polynomial case by replacing $B_{r}$ by the Bernoulli polynomials $B_{r}(x)$. Arithmetic properties of the coefficients of these polynomials are established. In particular, the 2-adic valuation of the modified Bernoulli numbers is determined. A variety of analytic, umbral, and asymptotic methods is used to analyze these polynomials.

We supplement a very recent paper of R. Crandall concerned with the multiprecision computation of several important special functions and numbers. We show an alternative series representation for the Riemann and Hurwitz zeta functions providing analytic continuation through out the whole complex plane. Additionally we demonstrate some series representations for the initial Stieltjes constants appearing in the Laurent expansion of the Hurwitz zeta function. A particular point of elaboration in these developments is the hypergeometric form and its equivalents for certain derivatives of the incomplete Gamma function. A number of generating functions are developed with certain coefficients $p_n$, and some extensions are presented. The explicit relation of $p_n$ to N\"{o}rlund numbers $B_n^{(n)}$ is discussed. Certain inequalities are conjectured for the $\{p_n\}$ sequence of coefficients, including its convexity, and an upper bound is demonstrated. It is shown that $p_n$ values may be used to express the Stieltjes constants for the Hurwitz and Riemann zeta functions, as well as values of these zeta functions at integer argument. The Stieltjes constants $\gamma_k$ appear in the regular part of the Laurent expansion of the Riemman and Hurwitz zeta functions. We demonstrate that these coefficients may be written as certain summations over mathematical constants and specialized hypergeometric functions $_pF_{p+1}$. This family of results generalizes a representation of the Euler constant in terms of a summation over values of the trigonometric integrals Si or Ci. The series representations are suitable for acceleration. We develop series representations for the Hurwitz and Riemann zeta functions in terms of generalized Bernoulli numbers (N\"{o}rlund polynomials), that give the analytic continuation of these functions to the entire complex plane. Special cases yield series representations of a wide variety of special functions and numbers, including log Gamma, the digamma, and polygamma functions. A further byproduct is that $\zeta(n)$ values emerge as nonlinear Euler sums in terms of generalized harmonic numbers. Several second moment and other integral evaluations for the Riemann zeta function $\zeta(s)$, Hurwitz zeta function $\zeta(s,a)$, and Lerch zeta function $\Phi(z,s,a)$ are presented. For $0\neq x>-1$ let $$\Delta(x)={{\ln \Gamma(x+1)} \over x}.$$ Recently Adell and Alzer proved the complete monotonicity of $\Delta'$ on $(-1,\infty)$ by giving an integral representation of $(-1)^n \Delta^{(n+1)}(x)$ in terms of the Hurwitz zeta function $\zeta(s,a)$. We obtain a variety of series and integral representations of the digamma function $\psi(a)$. These in turn provide representations of the evaluations $\psi(p/q)$ at rational argument and for the polygamma function $\psi^{(j)}$. The approach is through a limit definition of the zeroth Stieltjes constant $\gamma_0(a)=-\psi(a)$. Several other results are obtained, including product representations for $\exp[\gamma_0(a)]$ and for the Gamma function $\Gamma(a)$. We generalize techniques of Addison to a vastly larger context. We obtain integral representations in terms of the first periodic Bernoulli polynomial for a number of important special functions including the Lerch zeta, polylogarithm, Dirichlet $L$- and Clausen functions. We generalize the recently proposed Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger (GHZ) tripartite protocol [A. Galiautdinov, J. M. Martinis, Phys. Rev. A 78, 010305(R) (2008)] to fully connected networks of weakly coupled qubits interacting by way of anisotropic Heisenberg exchange g(XX+YY)+g1*ZZ. Our model adopted here differs from the more familiar Ising-Heisenberg chain in that here every qubit interacts with every other qubit in the circuit. The assumption of identical couplings on all qubit pairs allows an elegant proof of the protocol for arbitrary N. In order to further make contact with experiment, we study fidelity degradation due to coupling imperfections by numerically simulating the N=3 and N=4 cases. Our simulations indicate that the best fidelity at unequal couplings is achieved when (a) the system is initially prepared in the uniform superposition state (similarly to how it is done in the ideal case), and (b) the entangling time and the final rotations on each of the qubits are appropriately adjusted., Comment: 11 pages, 1 figure

A certain dilogarithmic integral I_7 turns up in a number of contexts including Feynman diagram calculations, volumes of tetrahedra in hyperbolic geometry, knot theory, and conjectured relations in analytic number theory. We provide an alternative explicit evaluation of a parameterized family of integrals containing this particular case. By invoking the Bloch-Wigner form of the dilogarithm function, we produce an equivalent result, giving a third evaluation of I_7. Perturbative quantum field theory for the Ising model at the three-loop level yields a tetrahedral Feynman diagram C(a,b) with masses a and b and four other lines with unit mass. The completely symmetric tetrahedron C^Tet \equiv C(1,1) has been of interest from many points of view, with several representations and conjectures having been given in the literature. We prove a conjectured exponentially fast convergent sum for C(1,1), as well as a previously empirical relation for C(1,1) as a remarkable difference of Clausen function values. We present a variety of series representations of the Stieltjes and related constants, the Stieltjes constants being the coefficients of the Laurent expansion of the Hurwitz zeta function zeta(s,a) about s=1. The Stieltjes constants gamma_k(a) are the expansion coefficients in the Laurent series for the Hurwitz zeta function about its only pole at s=1. We present the relation of gamma_k(1) to the eta_j coefficients that appear in the Laurent expansion of the logarithmic derivative of the Riemann zeta function about its pole at s=1. We obtain novel integral representations of the Stieltjes constants and new decompositions such as S_2(n) = S_gamma(n) + S_Lambda(n) for the crucial oscillatory subsum of the Li criterion for the Riemann hypothesis. The sum S_\gamma(n) is O(n) and we present various integral representations for it. We present novel series representations of S_2(n). We present explicit expressions for the Mellin transforms of Laguerre and Hermite functions in terms of a variety of special functions. We show that many of the properties of the resulting functions, including functional equations and reciprocity laws, are direct consequences of transformation formulae of hypergeometric functions. Interest in these results is reinforced by the fact that polynomial or other factors of the Mellin transforms have zeros only on the critical line Re s = 1/2. We additionally present a simple-zero Proposition for the Mellin transform of the wavefunction of the D-dimensional hydrogenic atom. We present analytic properties and extensions of the constants ck appearing in the Baez-Duarte criterion for the Riemann hypothesis. These constants are the coefficients of Pochhammer polynomials in a series representation of the reciprocal of the Riemann zeta function. We present generalizations of this representation to the Hurwitz zeta and many other special functions. We relate the corresponding coefficients to other known constants including the Stieltjes constants and present summatory relations. The Riemann hypothesis is equivalent to the Li criterion governing a sequence of real constants, that are certain logarithmic derivatives of the Riemann xi function evaluated at unity. We investigate a related set of constants c_n, n = 1,2,..., showing in detail that the leading behaviour (1/2) ln n of lambda_n/n is absent in c_n. Additional results are presented, including a novel explicit representation of c_n in terms of the Stieltjes constants gamma_j. We conjecture as to the large-n behaviour of c_n.
