The present study assessed the electrophysiologic parameters related to the excitability and conductibility of sciatic and vagus nerves during early stages of sepsis.Materials and methods: Twenty-four hours after sepsis induced by cecal ligation and puncture (CLP) model, sciatic and vagus nerves of septic (CLP group) and control (sham group) rats were removed, and selected electric stimulations were applied to measure the parameters of the first and second components of the compound action potential. The first component originated from fibers with motor and sensory functions (Types Aα and Aβ fibers) with a large conduction velocity (70–120 m/s), and the second component originated from fibers (Type Aγ) with sensorial function. To evaluate the presence of sensorial alterations, the sensitivity to non-noxious mechanical stimuli was measured by using the von Frey test. Hematoxylin and eosin staining of the nerves was performed. Results: We observed an increase of rheobase followed by a decrease in the first component amplitude and a higher paw withdrawal threshold in response to the application of von Frey filaments in sciatic nerves from the CLP group compared to the sham group. Differently, a decrease in rheobase and an increase in the first component amplitude of vagal C fibers from CLP group were registered. No significant morphologic alteration was observed. Conclusion: Our data showed that the electrophysiologic alterations in peripheral nerves vary with the fiber type and might be identified in the first 24 h of sepsis, before clinical signs of neuromuscular disorders. Abstract: Abstract We describe the geographical variation in tree species composition across Amazonian forests and show how environmental conditions are associated with species turnover. Our analyses are based on 2023 forest inventory plots (1 ha) that provide abundance data for a total of 5188 tree species. Within-plot species composition reflected both local environmental conditions (especially soil nutrients and hydrology) and geographical regions. A broader-scale view of species turnover was obtained by interpolating the relative tree species abundances over Amazonia into 47,441 0.1-degree grid cells. Two main dimensions of spatial change in tree species composition were identified. The first was a gradient between western Amazonia at the Andean forelands (with young geology and relatively nutrient-rich soils) and central–eastern Amazonia associated with the Guiana and Brazilian Shields (with more ancient geology and poor soils). The second gradient was between the wet forests of the northwest and the drier forests in southern Amazonia. Isolines linking cells of similar composition crossed major Amazonian rivers, suggesting that tree species distributions are not limited by rivers. Even though some areas of relatively sharp species turnover were identified, mostly the tree species composition changed gradually over large extents, which does not support delimiting clear discrete biogeographic regions within Amazonia.

Abstract: Abstract: The tropical forest carbon sink is known to be drought sensitive, but it is unclear which forests are the most vulnerable to extreme events. Forests with hotter and drier baseline conditions may be protected by prior adaptation, or more vulnerable because they operate closer to physiological limits. Here we report that forests in drier South American climates experienced the greatest impacts of the 2015–2016 El Niño, indicating greater vulnerability to extreme temperatures and drought. The long-term, ground-measured tree-by-tree responses of 123 forest plots across tropical South America show that the biomass carbon sink ceased during the event with carbon balance becoming indistinguishable from zero (−0.02 ± 0.37 Mg C ha−1 per year). However, intact tropical South American forests overall were no more sensitive to the extreme 2015–2016 El Niño than to previous less intense events, remaining a key defence against climate change as long as they are protected.

6. Development and validation of the thyroidectomy training box: cervical simulator for training endoscopic transoral thyroidectomy

Abstract: ABSTRACT Purpose: To develop and validate a trans oral endoscopic thyroidectomy vestibular approach (TOETVA) simulator. Methods: The first phase of the project consisted of designing and developing a transoral thyroid surgery simulator based on real surgeries. The product has the oral cavity for attaching the three trocars and the cervical part containing the thyroid and adjacent structures. In the second phase, the simulator was validated by specialists who performed an endoscopic thyroidectomy procedure. They all filled a questionnaire about the simulator and the simulation based on the Likert scale. Results: The simulator consists of a console similar to a human bust and a high-resolution camera system connected to a 22-inch monitor. The simulator had excellent results in the visual evaluation (face validity), with 100% of responses between good and excellent for the following characteristics: synthetic structures, design, visibility of the surgery field, resistance, resilience, fulcrum effect, ergonomics, surgical material, and practicality. The last three were rated higher, with more votes for excellent. For content validity, the items that received the best ratings were, precisely, the steps relating to the surgical procedure: opening the intermuscular midline, isthmotomy, and thyroidectomy. Conclusions: The thyroidectomy training box showed great ability to simulate a TOETVA, with satisfactory evaluations concerning its visual and content validation.

Abstract: O presente artigo tem como objetivo investigar como a realidade social se transforma em elementos estéticos na estrutura e na forma das personagens e do enredo do conto A caligrafia de Deus, do autor Márcio Souza. Para tanto, a análise parte da correlação estabelecida entre Literatura e Sociedade, por Candido (2006), observando, no texto literário, através do estudo das personagens femininas, o estabelecimento da mulher como indivíduo subalterno devido a influências concretas de fatores socioculturais. Ademais, é evidenciada a imposição da cultura do colonizador, que silencia e subalterniza a identidade cultural do sujeito excluído. Por meio desse estudo, conclui-se, por fim, que a condição de subalternidade existente no meio social é elemento estruturante do conto analisado e sua atuação na forma da obra acontece, não com fins meramente ilustrativos, mas a nível explicativo.

Abstract: Nexus+ inter-relaciona as seguranças hídrica, energética, alimentar e socioambiental, agenda promovida no território do PAN Lagoas do Sul por meio da restauração ecológica para o SocioBioCotidiano. Nesse território, a porção da região metropolitana de Porto Alegre e da Laguna dos Patos foi severamente impactada pelas enchentes de 2024. Nesse contexto, objetivou-se analisar a restauração ecológica para o SocioBioCotidiano como estratégia para o alcance das seguranças no contexto das emergências climáticas. Com esse fim, foram realizadas análises documental e de literatura com vistas a caracterizar a emergência climática e analisar o potencial de alcance das seguranças pelas espécies e ecossistemas. Todos os ecossistemas apresentaram serviços ecossistêmicos que garantem as seguranças em nível local e regional, concorrendo para a resiliência dos territórios urbanos. A noção de SocioBioCotidiano se apresenta como uma estratégia regional de abastecimento que promove a conservação e restauração da biodiversidade, a mitigação das mudanças climáticas e a justiça socioambiental.

Abstract: ABSTRACT Objective: To characterize the effectiveness of anti-vascular endothelial growth factor drugs in exudative age-related macular degeneration. Methods: Retrospective longitudinal study of 54 patients with age-related macular degeneration receiving bevacizumab or aflibercept. Demographic data, visual acuity, and central retinal thickness measurements were collected. Improvement/stability of visual acuity and reduction in retinal thickness configured satisfactory responses. Results: Among the 60 eyes studied, there was no difference (p = 0.262) in satisfactory response when using bevacizumab (48.5%) or aflibercept (63.0%). Snellen’s visual acuity, letter gain, and retinal thickness showed improvement or maintenance in 55.0%, 32.8%, and 78.3% of cases, respectively. The percentage of improvement/maintenance was higher in eyes with an initial visual acuity of < Snellen 20/400 (70.0% versus 40.0%; p = 0.002). Conclusion: A higher percentage of improvement/stabilization of visual acuity and macular thickness was observed in patients with age-related macular degeneration, with better response in patients with visual acuity worse than Snellen 20/400.

Abstract: En este texto analizamos el papel Estado cubano en lo concerniente a la política pública de salud reproductiva, teniendo como base reflexiones epistemológicas del pensamiento feminista negro en diálogo con otros abordajes críticos. Al amparo de estos referentes discutimos algunos hallazgos de una investigación doctoral previamente realizada sobre este tema. Constatamos que tanto los enunciados expuestos en documentos normativos, los procesos administrativos y diversos mecanismos institucionales asociados a la salud reproductiva, recrean lógicas coloniales de género, raza y parentesco que inscriben los proyectos de gestación y parentalidad en una matriz de dominación marcada por el racismo reproductivo y la heterosexualidad hegemónica, limitando las posibilidades de que tal política se constituya en un proyecto de justicia reproductiva.

Abstract: RESUMO Clones de eucalipto, no espaçamento 3 × 3 m, em Vazante/MG, foram cortados aos 13 meses de idade, para avaliar sobrevivência de cepas, número de brotos/cepa e diâmetro de plantas intactas e brotações. A sobrevivência das cepas dos clones 58, GG100, 1000, 36 e 8B, com e sem desbrota, e 910 (sem desbrota) variou de 100 a 93, aos 55 meses após o plantio; apresentou-se baixa (63%) para o clone 1270 e intermediária (87-90%) para os demais clones. O número de brotos foi reduzido para aproximadamente dois brotos/cepa para a maioria dos clones, no tratamento sem desbrota. Com a desbrota para dois brotos, houve redução média para 1,6 brotos/cepa e o diâmetro dos brotos foi igual ou superior ao do tratamento sem desbrota. Plantas intactas apresentaram maior diâmetro que brotações. A decepa de plantas jovens, de modo geral, não reduziu a sobrevivência de cepas. A desbrota não precisa ser utilizada para os clones estudados.

Abstract: Tropical forests play an important role in mitigating global climate change, emphasizing the need for reliable estimates of forest carbon stocks at regional and global scales. This is essential for effective carbon management, which involves strategies like emission reduction and enhanced carbon sequestration through forest restoration and conservation. However, reliable sample-based estimations of forest carbon stocks require accurate allometric equations, which are lacking for the rainforests of the Atlantic Forest Domain (AFD). In this study, we fitted biomass equations for the three main AFD forest types and accurately estimated the amount of carbon stored in their above-ground biomass (AGB) in Rio de Janeiro state, Brazil. Using non-destructive methods, we measured the total wood volume and wood density of 172 trees from the most abundant species in the main remnants of rainforest, semideciduous forest, and restinga forest in the state. The biomass and carbon stocks were estimated with tree-level data from 185 plots obtained in the National Forest Inventory conducted in Rio de Janeiro. Our locally developed allometric equations estimated the state’s biomass stocks at 70.8 ± 5.4 Mg ha−1 and carbon stocks at 35.4 ± 2.7 Mg ha−1. Notably, our estimates were more accurate than those obtained using a widely applied pantropical allometric equation from the literature, which tended to overestimate biomass and carbon stocks. These findings can be used for establishing a baseline for monitoring carbon stocks in the Atlantic Forest, especially in the context of the growing voluntary carbon market, which demands more consistent and accurate carbon stock estimations.

Abstract: Ethanol is one of the psychoactive substances most used by young individuals, usually in an intermittent and episodic manner, also called binge drinking. In the adolescent period, brain structures undergo neuromaturation, which increases the vulnerability to psychotropic substances. Our previous studies have revealed that ethanol binge drinking during adolescence elicits neurobehavioral alterations associated with brain damage. Thus, we explored the persistence of motor function impairment and cerebellum damage in the context of ethanol withdrawal periods (emerging adulthood and adult life) in adolescent female rats. Female Wistar rats (35 days old) received orally 4 cycles of ethanol (3.0 g/kg/day) or distilled water in 3 days on-4 days off paradigm (35th until 58th day of life). Motor behavioral tests (open field, grip strength, beam walking, and rotarod tests) and histological assays (Purkinje’s cell density and NeuN-positive cells) were assessed on the 1-, 30-, and 60-days of binge alcohol exposure withdrawal. Our findings demonstrate that the adolescent binge drinking exposure paradigm induced cerebellar cell loss in all stages evaluated, measured through the reduction of Purkinje’s cell density and granular layer neurons. The cerebellar tissue alterations were accompanied by behavioral impairments. In the early withdrawal, the reduction of spontaneous movement, incoordination, and unbalance was seen. However, the grip strength reduction was found at long-term withdrawal (60 days of abstinence). The cerebellum morphological changes and the motor alterations persisted until adulthood. These data suggest that binge drinking exposure during adolescence causes motor function impairment associated with cerebellum damage, even following a prolonged withdrawal, in adult life.

Abstract: Abstract Using 2.046 botanically-inventoried tree plots across the largest tropical forest on Earth, we mapped tree species-diversity and tree species-richness at 0.1-degree resolution, and investigated drivers for diversity and richness. Using only location, stratified by forest type, as predictor, our spatial model, to the best of our knowledge, provides the most accurate map of tree diversity in Amazonia to date, explaining approximately 70% of the tree diversity and species-richness. Large soil-forest combinations determine a significant percentage of the variation in tree species-richness and tree alpha-diversity in Amazonian forest-plots. We suggest that the size and fragmentation of these systems drive their large-scale diversity patterns and hence local diversity. A model not using location but cumulative water deficit, tree density, and temperature seasonality explains 47% of the tree species-richness in the terra-firme forest in Amazonia. Over large areas across Amazonia, residuals of this relationship are small and poorly spatially structured, suggesting that much of the residual variation may be local. The Guyana Shield area has consistently negative residuals, showing that this area has lower tree species-richness than expected by our models. We provide extensive plot meta-data, including tree density, tree alpha-diversity and tree species-richness results and gridded maps at 0.1-degree resolution.

24. Rootstock Effects on Fruit Yield and Quality of ‘BRS Tainá’ Seedless Table Grape in Semi-Arid Tropical Conditions

Abstract: In viticulture, choosing the most suitable rootstock for a specific scion cultivar is an efficient and cost-effective way to increase yield and enhance the physicochemical characteristics of the fruit. The objective of this study was to evaluate the agronomic performance of the ‘BRS Tainá’ grapevine on different rootstocks under the conditions of the Sub-Middle São Francisco Valley. The main experimental factor consisted of eight rootstocks (IAC 313, IAC 572, IAC 766, 101-14 MgT, Paulsen 1103, Ramsey, SO4, and Teleki 5C), arranged in randomized blocks with four replicates. The experiment was conducted over four production cycles, from 2021 to 2023, in a commercial crop area in Petrolina, PE, Brazil. There were significant effects of rootstocks for the yield and number of bunches per plant, as well as berry length and firmness. ‘BRS Tainá’ achieved the highest yield (22.2 kg per plant) when grafted onto the Paulsen 1103 rootstock, which was superior to the yield on 101-14 MgT, IAC 313, and IAC 572 rootstocks. The highest number of bunches (88) was obtained with ‘BRS Tainá’ grafted on Paulsen 1103, while the lowest number (63) was obtained on IAC 572; both these rootstocks were not significantly different from the other rootstocks. For all scion–rootstock combinations, the mean values for soluble solid (SS) content, titratable acidity (TA), and the SS/TA ratio were similar to those previously described for ‘BRS Tainá’, meeting the commercialization standard. The results for the yield and number of bunches per plant indicate the suitability of grafting ‘BRS Tainá’ on Paulsen 1103 under the semi-arid tropical conditions of the São Francisco Valley.

Abstract: Anethole is a terpenoid with antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and neuronal blockade effects, and the present work was undertaken to study the neuroprotective activity of anethole against diabetes mellitus (DM)-induced neuropathy. Streptozotocin-induced DM rats were used to investigate the effects of anethole treatment on morphological, electrophysiological, and biochemical alterations of the sciatic nerve (SN). Anethole partially prevented the mechanical hyposensitivity caused by DM and fully prevented the DM-induced decrease in the cross-sectional area of the SN. In relation to electrophysiological properties of SN fibers, DM reduced the frequency of occurrence of the 3rd component of the compound action potential (CAP) by 15%. It also significantly reduced the conduction velocity of the 1st and 2nd CAP components from 104.6 ± 3.47 and 39.8 ± 1.02 to 89.9 ± 3.03 and 35.4 ± 1.56 m/s, respectively, and increased the duration of the 2nd CAP component from 0.66 ± 0.04 to 0.82 ± 0.09 ms. DM also increases oxidative stress in the SN, altering values related to thiol, TBARS, SOD, and CAT activities. Anethole was capable of fully preventing all these DM electrophysiological and biochemical alterations in the nerve. Thus, the magnitude of the DM-induced neural effects seen in this work, and the prevention afforded by anethole treatment, place this compound in a very favorable position as a potential therapeutic agent for treating diabetic peripheral neuropathy.

Abstract: O artigo apresenta reflexões críticas sobre a formação continuada de professoras alfabetizadoras em cotejo com as políticas internacionais de educação e alfabetização. A pesquisa teve como objetivo conhecer como os efeitos das orientações dos organismos internacionais para a educação e alfabetização se manifestam no discurso das participantes da formação continuada do Pacto Nacional pela Alfabetização na Idade Certa (PNAIC) realizada no município de Santa Cruz Cabrália, BA. A metodologia adotada é a abordagem qualitativa, cujo método é tomado na perspectiva dialética, em aproximação com a corrente de pensamento marxista e os pressupostos da Teoria Crítica. O procedimento utilizado foi a entrevista semiestruturada com participantes da formação continuada do PNAIC. Os resultados indicam que, por um lado, se a formação continuada sofreu os efeitos da política neoliberal que desenhava o PNAIC, por outro, a ação formativa se associou ao que demandam as escolas no esforço de transformação da realidade objetiva.

Abstract: Abstract The objective of this work was to evaluate packaging for preserving the quality of soybean (Glycine max) seeds stored in different environments. The experiment design was completely randomized, in a factorial arrangment with six seed storage conditions: natural atmosphere (NA), laminated packaging atmosphere (LPA), modified atmosphere in polyethylene packaging (MAPP), refrigerated atmosphere in raffia packaging (RARP), refrigerated atmosphere in laminated packaging (RALP), and modified and refrigerated atmosphere in polyethylene packaging (MRAPP), with four storage times (zero, two, four, and six months). Storage time reduces the quality of soybean seeds after two months in all tested packaging. The germination of the soybean seeds was maintained in the following packaging: LPA, RARP, RALP, and MRAPP. LPA is the most efficient packaging for soybean seeds, which show the highest percentage of germination for the longest storage time, without requiring any modification or refrigeration of the atmospheric storage environment.

Abstract: Resumen. En las últimas décadas se produjo un aumento del flujo migratorio de personas provenientes de distintos países de África que transitan el continente americano para llegar a Estados Unidos y Canadá. Particularmente desde el 2014, la presencia de estas migraciones en tránsito por Costa Rica ha sido más visibilizada, esto ha producido distintas respuestas institucionales para controlar y acompañar su tránsito por el país. Este artículo tiene como fin visibilizar y problematizar algunos de los principales desafíos presentes en la atención institucional a las migraciones africanas en tránsito por Costa Rica. Se realizaron distintas entrevistas a funcionarios y funcionarias del área de migración (tanto de instituciones estatales como de Organismos Internacionales) que comparten vínculos laborales con personas en movilidad provenientes de África. Más que entrar en profundidad en las políticas públicas específicas, el artículo analiza las inquietudes, tensiones y contradicciones presentes en la atención cotidiana de esta migración y, a partir de las reflexiones y experiencias de las personas entrevistadas, se sugiere algunas prácticas que fortalecerían horizontes más hospitalarios con las y los africanos en el país.

Abstract: Este estudo teve por objetivo apresentar os resultados de um grupo psicoterápico psicoeducativo desenvolvido junto a estudantes de Enfermagem. Foram realizados seis encontros com cinco estudantes de uma universidade pública do Estado de São Paulo. Os encontros foram audiogravados, transcritos e submetidos à análise temático-reflexiva. Os resultados encontrados permitiram a construção de cinco categorias temáticas: (1) Desafios da adaptação ao ensino superior; (2) Concepções sobre saúde mental na universidade; (3) Autocuidado e equilíbrio entre a vida universitária e pessoal; (4) Relações interpessoais e vida universitária; (5) Perspectivas e expectativas sobre a formação. O processo de integração à universidade requer mobilização cognitiva, afetiva e social, sendo que as relações com os pares, professores e familiares foram destacadas como importantes para essa adaptação. As participantes destacaram conhecer a importância do cuidado em saúde mental, mas admitiram dificuldades de promoverem o autocuidado. O espaço grupal foi utilizado como ambiente de escuta, estabelecimento de vínculo e autocuidado. Os grupos psicoeducativos demonstraram ser importantes para a construção de estratégias de enfrentamento e um espaço para o acolhimento de demandas que emergem nessa etapa do desenvolvimento.

32. Acute effects of exercise with blood flow restriction on endothelial function in healthy young and older populations: a systematic review

Abstract: The objective of this review is to identify the acute effects of blood flow restriction (BFR) with vs without exercise on endothelial function in healthy individuals and the changes in endothelial function in young and older adults following different levels of exclusive BFR vs free flow. Systematic searches were performed in the following databases: PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus, and Cochrane Library, from inception to July 17, 2021. The studies included healthy individuals who underwent assessments of endothelial function before and after experimental protocols through endothelium-dependent flow-mediated dilatation. In total, 4890 studies were screened, and 6 studies of moderate-to-high methodological quality (Physiotherapy Evidence Database scores 6 - 10) including 82 subjects (aged 24 - 68 years) were eligible. Overall, flow-mediated dilatation increased in the non-cuffed arm immediately and 15 minutes after exercise, with no change in the cuffed arm (BFR of 60 - 80 mmHg). In protocols without exercise, cuff pressures of 25 - 30 mmHg applied for 30 minutes did not promote changes in the endothelial function, while those > 50 mmHg induced a dose-dependent attenuation of flow-mediated dilatation only in young individuals. A moderate level of BFR appears to have no effect on endothelial function after acute exercise. In non-exercise conditions, reductions in flow-mediated dilatation seem to result from increased retrograde shear provoked by cuff pressures ≥ 50 mmHg in young but not in older adults. An exercise-related increase in antegrade shear rate leads to a greater nitric oxide-mediated vasodilator response. However, BFR appears to attenuate this effect in young but not in older individuals.

34. A Proximity-Based Approach for the Identification of Fallen Species of Street Trees during Strong Wind Events in Lisbon

Abstract: The benefits of urban trees are very well known, but they can fall and cause damage, putting people’s lives at risk. There are few studies on the vulnerability of species to falling. In Lisbon (Portugal), fallen trees have been recorded since 1990 without, however, the identification of the species, knowledge of which is fundamental for improving their management. This study aimed to identify the tree species most vulnerable to falling in Lisbon through a proximity-based approach of known species, since the city has 47,713 inventoried trees, of which only 26,595 (55.7%) were identified. Four criteria were designed to presume the species: (i) the tree must be within 15 m from the street median axis; (ii) at least three individuals within 30 m from the occurrence must belong to the same species; (iii) the surrounding species must be representative in the street (>50%); and (iv) visual identification of avenue medians. Through this approach, considering 3767 fallen trees, it was possible to identify 736 cases, representing 19.5% of all occurrences throughout the studied time and representing 43 different species. Species like Morus nigra L., Tipuana tipu (Benth.) Kuntze, Liriodendron tulipifera L., Prunus cerasifera Ehrh., and Koelreuteria paniculata Laxm. were most vulnerable. Additionally, in 57.7% of cases (425 fallen trees), the wind speed 12-h before the occurrence was greater than 7 m s−1. This research will provide important data for urban planners seeking to maximize the ecosystem services of urban trees.

Métodos: Pesquisa qualitativa, exploratória e descritiva, desenvolvida no município de Dormentes, Estado de Pernambuco, Brasil, em Unidades Básicas de Saúde, através da entrevista semiestruturada, com 8 mães que receberam o diagnóstico para anomalia congênita durante o pré-natal ou pós-nascimento, ocorrida entre 2017 e 2022. Utilizou-se uma amostra não probabilística, por intencionalidade, com fechamento amostral por exaustão. Os dados coletados foram analisados a partir da técnica da análise temática de conteúdo. Resultados: As mães ao vivenciarem o diagnóstico experimentam medo, tristeza e luto. A revelação do diagnóstico implica em adaptações que envolvem toda a família, na qual, os desafios postos, ao receber a notícia, evidenciaram a importância do acolhimento, do esclarecimento do diagnóstico e apontaram para busca de informações e da religiosidade, como dispositivos de fortalecimento. Conclusão: Os achados desvelaram os processos adaptativos das famílias, principalmente das mães, apontando sobretudo para a necessidade de os profissionais, em específico, da enfermagem, repensarem seu papel alicerçado na empatia e na humanização, buscando o empoderamento das famílias para se adaptar ao novo, encorajando-as a vivenciarem o processo.

Abstract: Abstract In a time of rapid global change, the question of what determines patterns in species abundance distribution remains a priority for understanding the complex dynamics of ecosystems. The constrained maximization of information entropy provides a framework for the understanding of such complex systems dynamics by a quantitative analysis of important constraints via predictions using least biased probability distributions. We apply it to over two thousand hectares of Amazonian tree inventories across seven forest types and thirteen functional traits, representing major global axes of plant strategies. Results show that constraints formed by regional relative abundances of genera explain eight times more of local relative abundances than constraints based on directional selection for specific functional traits, although the latter does show clear signals of environmental dependency. These results provide a quantitative insight by inference from large-scale data using cross-disciplinary methods, furthering our understanding of ecological dynamics.

Abstract: Este estudo apresenta o relato de uma experiência de acolhimento universitário a partir da realização de grupos operativos com estudantes de Psicologia de uma universidade pública do interior de Minas Gerais, Brasil. Participaram seis universitárias, com idades entre 18 e 27 anos, matriculadas entre o terceiro e o quarto semestres. Foram realizados cinco encontros em grupos operativos, coordenados por três psicoterapeutas utilizando recursos audiovisuais e literários para disparar as interações. A tarefa explícita dos grupos foi: pensar e dialogar sobre ser universitária e estudante de Psicologia. A interpretação e análise dos dados foi realizada por meio do levantamento dos principais emergentes grupais ligados à tarefa explícita. Por meio do conteúdo manifesto foram construídas três categorias: 1) Entrada na universidade e distanciamento de casa e da família; 2) Família e escolha profissional, e 3) Ser mulher na universidade. Diferentes marcadores emergiram na experiência universitária, sobretudo os relacionados à adaptação, às relações familiares, às questões de gênero e a construção da identidade profissional. Os grupos operativos possibilitaram a criação de espaços de escuta, diálogo e reflexão de temas caros à formação pessoal e profissional, demonstrando ser um recurso metodológico relevante para a atenção e promoção de cuidados em saúde mental no ensino superior. Abstract: Abstract Background It is known that consuming a high-fat meal (HFM) induces microvascular dysfunction (MD) in eutrophic women and aggravates it in those with obesity. Our purpose was to investigate if the MD observed after a single HFM intake is caused by endothelial damage or increased inflammatory state, both determined by blood biomarkers. Methods Nineteen women with obesity (BMI 30-34.9 kg/m2) and 18 eutrophic ones (BMI 20.0-24.9 kg/m2) were enrolled into two groups: Obese (OBG) and Control (CG), respectively. Blood samples were collected at five-time points: before (fasting state) and 30, 60, 120, and 180 min after HFM intake to determine levels of adipokines (adiponectin, leptin), non-esterified fatty acid (NEFA), inflammatory [tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), interleukin-6 (IL-6)] and endothelium damage [soluble E-selectin, soluble vascular cell adhesion molecule-1 (sVCAM-1), soluble intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (sICAM-1), plasminogen activator inhibitor-1 (PAI-1)] biomarkers. Abstract: Abstract Background Evidence of the benefits induced from resistance exercise on health markers of post-bariatric patients is limited. The study will investigate the effects of a resistance training (RT) program on muscle mass and strength, bone metabolism biomarkers, bone mineral density (BMD), bone microarchitecture, and endothelial function of patients subjected to Roux-en-Y gastric bypass. Methods/design This randomized controlled trial will include 60 post-bariatric patients, physically inactive, aging 18 to 50 years, with a post-surgery period ≥ 12 months. They will be randomly assigned into two groups: (i) the non-exercised control group, which will receive the standard clinical follow-up, or (ii) the intervention group which will consist of RT (60 min/session; 3 times/week, for 6 months). The primary outcomes will include muscle mass and strength, bone metabolism biomarkers, BMD, and bone microarchitecture. The secondary outcomes will be anthropometry, hemodynamic measurements, cardiovascular risk factors, health-related quality of life (QoL), and endothelial function. Outcomes will be assessed by blood biomarkers of bone formation and reabsorption, dual X-ray absorptiometry, repetition maximum and handgrip strength tests, high-resolution peripheral quantitative computed tomography, 36-Item Short-Form Health Survey, venous occlusion plethysmography, and nailfold videocapillaroscopy. Discussion It is expected that there are greater benefits from the RT program, possibly improving muscle mass and strength, bone metabolism, density and microarchitecture, QoL, and cardiovascular risk. Abstract: Machine Learning (ML) algorithms are increasingly being used in several areas of agricultural studies, such as plant breeding. ML can assist in the recognition of relevant patterns or groups, or even in the prediction of the outcome under new settings, thus accelerating experiments and interpretating their results. The identification and selection of drought-tolerant grapevine rootstock (Vitis spp.) have become more relevant in late years, motivated mostly by global climate change scenarios. However, the grapevine is a perennial species, with polygenic characteristics and a complex traits inheritance by offspring, thus making it very challenging to discover new, drought tolerant cultivars. For this reason, this study's main objective was to compare the performance of six machine learning models on the prediction of drought tolerance levels of grapevine rootstock cultivars. A data set with forty-five distinct cultivars was used to evaluate the methods, and the best performing model (AUC 0.9857) was used to predict the drought tolerance class of three cultivars (IAC 313, IAC 572, and IAC 766) whose drought tolerance level was still unknown. The results predicted a high drought tolerance for IAC 313 and IAC 766 cultivars, and a low tolerance for IAC 572.

46. Assessment of table grape progenies and correlation between seedlessness and other agronomic traits

Abstract: Abstract The aim of the present study was to identify grape parent varieties that lead to greater frequency of seedless genotypes in the progenies and to understand the relationships between the seedless trait and other fruit traits. A group of 200 hybrids (F1) originating from 38 crosses among cultivars of Vitis vinifera L. and interspecific hybrids were evaluated in Juazeiro, Bahia, Brazil, over six consecutive crop seasons (2018 to 2021). The progenies were placed in three classes based on seedlessness: completely seedless (class 1), seed traces or soft seeds (class 2), and with seeds (class 3). The mean dry matter of the seeds in each class was 0 mg, 2.3 mg, and 25.7 mg respectively, which corresponded to 40 genotypes (20%) in class 1, 52 genotypes (26%) in class 2, and 108 (54%) in class 3. The interspecific cross ‘BRS Isis’ and ‘Marroo Seedless’ stood out through favoring high frequency of seedless individuals in the progeny (47.5%). The traits associated with berry size (length, diameter, and weight) had high positive correlations with each other. The results obtained make an important contribution for table grape breeding aiming at the development of new table grape cultivars.

Abstract: Drug abuse is a global public health problem among adolescents, with alcohol often used in association with other psychotropic drugs, such as ketamine. Considering the scarcity of evidence, this study aimed to investigate emotional behavioral effects induced by ethanol plus ketamine co-abuse, as well as oxidative biochemistry, and neurotrophic mediator in the prefrontal cortex and hippocampus in the early withdrawal of adolescent female rats. Animals were divided into control, ethanol, ketamine, and ethanol plus ketamine groups. The protocol administration was performed for 3 consecutive days (binge-like pattern). Behavioral assays of open field, elevated plus maze, and forced swim test were performed. After that, the prefrontal cortex and hippocampus were collected to evaluate oxidative biochemistry (reactive oxygen species-ROS; Antioxidant capacity against peroxyl radicals-ACAP; and lipid peroxidation). We found that isolated or combined ethanol and ketamine exposure displayed anxiety- and depressive-like profile, in a non-synergistically manner during early withdrawal. However, oxidative damage was aggravated in the co-administered animals than in isolated exposed subjects. We concluded that ethanol plus ketamine co-abuse may intensify oxidative damage in the hippocampus and prefrontal cortex in the early withdrawal of adolescent female rats, which was not reflected in the emotional behavioral phenotype.
