Abstract

The Raman spectrum of plutonium dioxide is studied both experimentally and theoretically. Particular attention has been devoted to the identification of high-energy modes at $2120$ cm$^{-1}$ and $2625$ cm$^{-1}$, the attribution of which has so far been controversial. The temperature dependence of both modes suggests an electronic origin. Crystal Field (CF) calculations reported in this work shows that these two modes can be respectively assigned to the ${\Gamma}_{1}$ $\rightarrow$ ${\Gamma}_{5}$ and ${\Gamma}_{1}$ $\rightarrow $ ${\Gamma}_{3}$ CF transitions within the $^{5}I_{4}$ manifold. These two modes, together with the only vibrational line foreseen by the group theory for the Fm${-3}$m PuO$_{2}$ symmetry the T$_{2g}$ PuO stretching mode observed at $478$ cm$^{-1}$ can thus be used as Raman fingerprint of fcc plutonium dioxide., Comment: 15 pages

In this model, the three dimensions of patient satisfaction with methadone as a medication (ie, personal functioning and well-being, anti-addictive effect on heroin, and anti-addictive effect on non-opioid substances) were expected to predict satisfaction with the basic interventions delivered by the staff of treatment centers to implement MMT.Patients and methods: A sample of 210 heroin-dependent patients, resistant to MMT treatment (mean age =41.66 years, SD =6.50; 75.7% male), participated voluntarily in this study. Preliminary analysis based on exploratory structural equation modeling supported the expected three-factor measurement model of the scale to assess satisfaction with medications for addiction treatment – methadone for heroin addiction. Moreover, the 15 items measuring staff’s basic interventions were shown to be compatible with the expected single-factor measurement model. Then, both measurement models were included in a structural model.Results: Results of this model show that patient satisfaction with the compatibility of methadone with personal functioning and well-being, as well as with the anti-addictive effects of methadone on non-opioid substances, predicts satisfaction with basic interventions conducted at methadone treatment centers (β=0.191 and β=0.152, respectively).Conclusion: Our results provide further understanding regarding patient satisfaction with MMT, which could help professionals to better understand patient perspective and experience during MMT. Abstract

Molecular epidemiology of circulating clinical isolates is crucial to improve prevention strategies. The Spanish Working Group on multidrug resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) is a network that monitors the MDR-TB isolates in Spain since 1998. The aim of this study was to present the study of the MDR-TB and extensively drug-resistant tuberculosis (XDR-TB) patterns in Spain using the different recommended genotyping methods over time by a national coordinated system. Based on the proposed genotyping methods in the European Union until 2018, the preservation of one method, MIRU-VNTR, applied to selected clustered strains permitted to maintain our study open for 20 years. The distribution of demographic, clinical and epidemiological characteristics of clustered and non-clustered cases of MDR/XDR tuberculosis with proportion differences as assessed by Pearson's chi-squared or Fisher's exact test was compared. The differences in the quantitative variables using the Student's-t test and the Mann-Whitney U test were evaluated. The results obtained showed a total of 48.4% of the cases grouped in 77 clusters. Younger age groups, having a known TB case contact (10.2% vs 4.7%) and XDR-TB (16.5% vs 1.8%) were significantly associated with clustering. The largest cluster corresponded to a Mycobacterium bovis strain mainly spread during the nineties. A total of 68.4% of the clusters detected were distributed among the different Spanish regions and six clusters involving 104 cases were grouped in 17 and 18 years. Comparison of the genotypes obtained with those European genotypes included in The European Surveillance System (TESSy) showed that 87 cases had become part of 20 European clusters. The continuity of MDR strain genotyping in time has offered a widespread picture of the situation that allows better management of this public health problem. It also shows the advantage of maintaining one genotyping method over time, which allowed the comparison between ancient, present and future samples. Abstract

COVID-19 (SARS-CoV-2 virus) pandemic was recently declared by the WHO as a global health emergency. A group of interventional radiology senior experts developed a consensus document for infection control and management of patients with COVID-19 in interventional radiology (IR) departments. This consensus statement has been brought together at short notice with the help of different protocols developed by governmental entities and scientific societies to be adapted to the current reality and needs of IR Departments. Recommendations are the specific strategies to follow in IR departments, preventive measures and regulations, step by step for donning and doffing personal protective equipment, specific IR procedures which can not be delayed, and aerosol-generating procedures in IR with COVID-19 patients. It is advisable with this document to be adapted to local workplace policies.

Abstract

The use of direct liquid fuel cells is acquiring increasing interest as an alternative to hydrogen fuel cells, given the low H2 volumetric energy density and difficulties linked to its storage, transport and handling. In particular, direct isopropanol fuel cells (DIFC) has two main competitive advantages: i) Isopropyl alcohol (IPA) electrooxidation reaction leads to negligible CO2 production at the anode, as opposed to the oxidation of methanol or ethanol, among others,1 and ii) the main oxidation product, i.e., acetone, is easily hydrogenated back to 2-propanol either catalytically or electrochemically. In this way, acetone becomes a promising hydrogen receptor to be coupled with liquid organic hydrogen carriers in a proper transfer hydrogenation system.2 However, DIFCs typically employ Pt-based anodes, which suffer from a strong metal deactivation due to adsorbed acetone. The use of binary catalysts like PtRu partially solves this problem,1,3 but a deep understanding of this particular deactivation phenomenon still lacks. In the present work, isopropanol electrooxidation reaction in acidic media has been studied on Pt/C and PtRu/C catalysts under different operation conditions to evaluate the electrocatalytic activity, selectivity and stability of these model electrodes and to determine the most appropriate conditions to avoid or mitigate the catalyst deactivation.
