The article is devoted to one of the ways of committing a criminal offense under Article 206 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine "Counteraction to legitimate economic activity". In particular, the author examines the concept of threats of violence against the victim or persons close to the victim in the course of counteracting legitimate economic activity. It is determined that the method of committing a criminal offense in the form of a threat of violence against the victim or persons close to him/her is present both in Article 206 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine "Counteraction to Legitimate Economic Activity" and in some other corpus delicti of criminal offenses. The author establishes that in the Criminal Code of Ukraine "threat of violence" appears either as a separate criminal offense or as a method of committing a criminal offense. The study reveals the content of the terms "threat" and "threat of violence" used in the disposition of Article 206 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. Based on the results of the analysis, the author suggests that a threat of violence should be understood as actions of a person aimed at intimidation without physical contact with the victim, which are intended to influence the psycho-emotional state of the victim with a view to achieving the desired criminal result. For the purpose of recognizing a threat as a method of counteracting legitimate business activity, it does not matter whether the perpetrator actually intended and was actually able to carry out the threat. From the moment the demand combined with the threat is made, this criminal offense is complete. It has been determined that, within the meaning of Article 206 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, close persons are understood to mean close relatives - parents (foster parents), children (foster children), grandparents and grandchildren. Family members are parents (foster parents), children (foster children), brothers, sisters and their spouses who live together, as well as a spouse who lives together but is not married, and the spouses' parents. The closeness of persons who are family members is based primarily on marriage (husband, wife) and consanguinity (children, parents, other relatives), and may also arise on other grounds (friendship, love, etc.). Parentage exclusion probability is usually calculated to evaluate the informativeness of a set of markers for, and the statistical power of, a parentage analysis. Equations for parentage exclusion probability have been derived in various scenarios such as paternity exclusion when maternity is known or unknown or when candidate males are unrelated or loosely related (being from the same subpopulation) to the father. All previous work assumes a diploid species. Although marker-based parentage analyses have been conducted in haploidiploid species (such as ants, bees and wasps) for diploid offspring at the individual level or haploid offspring at the class level, rigorously derived formulations of parentage exclusion probability for haploid offspring at the individual level are lacking, which prevents the precise evaluation of the informativeness for and the statistical power of a parentage analysis. In this study we derive equations for the exclusion probability of maternity of a haploid male when multiple mother candidates (workers or queens) are unrelated or fullsibs to the mother. The usefulness of the equations is exemplified by numerical examples, and the results are discussed in the context of the study of worker reproductivity in eusocial haplodiploid species. The results are especially valuable for an optimal experimental design in determining sampling intensities (e.g. number of markers and number of individuals) to achieve satisfactory statistical power of a parentage analysis in investigating workers' reproductivity in eusocial haplodiploid species. Abstract Background During the COVID-19 outbreak in 2020, national governments took restrictive measures, such as a visitors ban, prohibition of group activities and quarantine, to protect nursing home residents against infections. As ‘safety’ prevailed, residents and close relatives had no choice but to accept the restrictions. Their perspectives are relevant because the policies had a major impact on them, but they were excluded from the policy decisions. In this study we looked into the moral attitudes of residents, close relatives and volunteers regarding the restrictions in retrospect, and what moral lessons they considered important. Methods We conducted 30 semi-structured interviews with residents and close relatives and one focus group meeting with volunteers working in nursing homes. Data were transcribed verbatim and analyzed inductively. Subsequently, three Socratic dialogue meetings with residents, close relatives and volunteers were organized in which first analysis outcomes were discussed and dialogues were fostered into moral lessons for future pandemics. Outcomes were combined with moral theory following an empirical bioethics design. Results Critical perspectives regarding the COVID-19 restrictions grew in time. Various moral values were compromised and steered moral lessons for our future. The participants recognized three moral lessons as most important. First, constructing tailored (well-balanced) solutions in practice is desirable. Second, proper recognition is needed for the caring role that close relatives fulfill in practice. Third, a responsive power distribution should be in place that includes all stakeholder perspectives who are affected by the restrictions. Discussion Comparing the results with moral theory strengthens the plea for inclusion of all stakeholder groups in decision-making processes. To further concretize the moral lessons, tailored solutions can be realized with the use of moral case deliberations. Proper recognition includes actions addressing moral repair and including counter-stories in the debate. Responsive power distribution starts with providing clear and trustworthy information and including all perspectives.

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease stage III or IV is a progressive and incurable disease. The hallmark of the disease is breathlessness, and it is graded into four different stages, from mild to severe. Living with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease impacts almost every aspect of everyday life for an affected person. As the illness progresses to stages III and IV, the need for support from close relatives increases. The aim of this study was to explore and describe the experiences of close relatives of women with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease stage III or IV and it used qualitative content analysis of individual, semi-structured interviews. Close relatives (n = 9) were interviewed about their experience of being close to a woman with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease stage III or IV. They experienced stress and uncertainty in an unpredictable everyday life. Close relatives supported the women both practically and emotionally and they called for tailored information about the illness, considering it as an essential tool for support. The results highlighted that healthy close relatives had difficulty in understanding the experience of living with chronic obstructive pulmonary, as they take the simple fact of breathing for granted most of the time.

Obesity is one of the most glaringly obvious, yet most neglected, public health problems the world is facing today. Individuals' self-perception of being overweight is essential to engaging in weight control behavior. This is the first exploratory study in Chongqing to assess the mediating effect of perceived obesity in close relatives on obesity and weight control behavior among adults. A cross-sectional study, including 3,7492 participants, was conducted in a healthcare center in Chongqing, China. For Kruskal–Wallis test analyses, logistic regression and Sobel-Goodman mediation tests were employed. Only 1.76% of participants (660) were medically identified as obese, and only 2.13% of participants (798) thought their close relatives were obese. Nearly one-third of the participants consumed more than double the daily recommended amount of meat. More than 85% of participants were physically inactive. Obesity was positively associated with obesity perception in close relatives (OR = 19.556, P < 0.001). The association between the respondent's obesity status and weight control behavior scores changed statistically significantly (β = 0.594, P < 0.001). Individuals who perceived their close relatives as obese were more likely to engage in weight control behavior themselves (β = 0.678, P = 0.001). The obesity perception in close relatives partially mediated the association between obesity and weight control behavior (ab = 0.141, SE = 0.03, 95% CI = 0.086, 0.198). Obese people are more likely to engage in weight control behaviors. The effect of individuals' obesity status on weight control behavior scores is partially mediated by the obesity perception in close relatives among the participants. Findings suggest that personal obesity status perceptions of close relatives might provide new weight management ideas for healthcare centers.

Hybridization is one of the breeding methods for kenaf (Hibiscus cannabinus L.) that can generate superior varieties. This research investigated interspecific hybrids between kenaf and its close relatives. The research was conducted in April-October 2018 at the experimental garden of Balittas Karangploso, Malang, Indonesia. The research materials were eight genotypes of H. cannabinus (KR1, KR4, KR5, KR6, KR15, Kin 2, DS028, and Cuba 108/Italia), and three of its close relatives (H. radiatus (Kal II), H. acetocella (SSRH 023), and H. sabdariffa (HS40)). The proportion of successful kenaf interspecific hybrids was 0-97.92%. The interspecific hybrids between H.cannabinus as the parental female and H. radiatus as the parental male were compatible (100%). Interspecific hybrids between H. cannabinus as the parental female and H. acetocella as the parental male were very compatible (12.5%), partly compatible (75%), and incompatible (12.5%). Interspecific hybrids between H. cannabinus as the parental female and H. sabdariffa as the parental male were compatible (12.5%), partly compatible (50%), and incompatible (37.5%). A reciprocal cross between H. cannabinus and H. acetocella was compatible (100%), but a reciprocal cross between H. cannabinus and H. sabdariffa was compatible (75%) and incompatible (25%). The mean viability of seed from the interspecific hybrids between H. cannabinus and its three close relatives was 0%. The viability of seed obtained from the reciprocal cross between kenaf and H. radiatus was 41.5%, between kenaf and H. acetocella was 31.5%, and between kenaf and H. sabdariffa was 0%. Suicide in older persons is a serious issue in many countries. The act of intentionally causing one’s own death is often associated with lack of social support, thwarted belongingness, or chronic interpersonal difficulties. Therefore, suicide has a significant interpersonal dimension that can influence those left behind. However, studies that have investigated the impact of older adults’ suicide on their family are scarce. The objective of this pilot study was to assess the feasibility of a qualitative research on the psychosocial experience of adults bereaved by the suicide of an elderly relative. This research could recruit three participants (daughter, grand-son, and grand-niece) who had lost to suicide a close family member aged between 75 and 90. The analysis of the content of the semi-structured interviews revealed seven main themes: (1) finding an explanation to the suicide, (2) give meaning to the loss, (3) the emotional processes of mourning, (4) the repercussions of the suicide on the individual and the family, (5) looking for support, (6) the taboo and secrecy of suicide, and (7) perceptions of aging and the end of life. To explain the suicide of their loved one, the bereaved mentioned various factors related to aging, such as loss of autonomy, illness, and fear of placement. Although the older relative was perceived to be approaching death because of his/her age, the suicide was still unexpected and shocking and led to various emotions (shock, anger, and guilt) and to family conflicts. Suicide remains a taboo subject, but the newly legalized medical assistance in dying is seen as a potential solution to suffering in old age. Further investigation is clearly needed on this topic and this pilot study indicates that the main difficulties will lie in the choice of selection criteria for participants and in the recruitment process.

Here, we report on four cases of kinship testing among close relatives, including three "twin" cases, where we examined the type of kinship between twins' offspring - full sibship, firstdegree relationship or half sibship, and on one complex kinship case where we were primarily requested to determine the probability that two individuals have the same father. In "twin" cases, 23 individuals in total were studied, of which three pairs of monozygous twins with their spouses/partners and with a total of 11 offspring. In the fourth case, samples for DNA analysis were collected from six individuals - Mother and her two daughters/siblings Daughter1a and Daughter2a, Son whose parents are Mother and FatherB, and Daughter2aB whose mother is Daughter2a. After creating pedigree charts, genomic DNA extraction and amplification of 22 autosomal STR markers using PowerPlex®Fusion System, electropherograms for all individuals were successfully generated. In all "twin" cases, paternity testing for 11 offspring of six couples resulted in PP (Probability of Paternity) values higher than 99.9999%, having confirmed the paternity for every descendant of all twin pairs. Kinship analyses involved setting up two opposite hypotheses, comparing the loci and shared allele variants between individuals, and calculating the LR (Likelihood Ratio) and KP (Kinship Probability) values. Full siblings, who have the same parents, displayed the largest number of shared alleles, with LRs significantly higher than other degrees of relatedness. Kinship analyses between twins' descendants showed higher possibility that they are half-siblings, rather than they are first cousins, what is in accordance with the fact that monozygous twins share an identical DNA material, and that their offspring, in genetical sense, share the same parent. Concerning the last case, kinship analysis revealed high probability that Son and Daughter2aB are half-siblings (LR=31.9329, KP=96.9635%) since they have a common father, what was previously determined through trio paternity testing (PPs over 99.99999%). Interestingly, kinship analysis carried on Daughter1a and Son showed 4,5 times higher probability that they are half-siblings contrary to probability of half sibship between Daughter2a and Son (KP=22.29477%). Finally, these results pointed up the importance of using larger number of autosomal STR loci in solving complex kinship cases. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article discusses the topic of kin recognition in guppies, specifically the ability of individuals to distinguish between close relatives and unrelated individuals. Kin recognition in guppies has been studied in the context of social behavior and mating preferences. Female guppies exhibit maternal kin recognition, preferring to associate with their own offspring or the offspring of close relatives. Male guppies may also exhibit kin recognition in mating behavior. Kin recognition in guppies is believed to have evolved as a mechanism to promote cooperation among close relatives and avoid the potential costs of inbreeding. Background: Encounters play an important role in the relationship between healthcare personnel and the close relatives of people with a long-term illness. Aim: The aim of this study was to elucidate the meanings of encounters for close relatives of people with a long-term illness within a primary healthcare setting. Methods: Interviews using a narrative approach were conducted with seven women and three men, and the phenomenological hermeneutic method was used to interpret the interview texts. Results: The structural analysis revealed three major themes: being confirmed as a family, being informed of the care, and being respected as a valuable person. Close relatives stated that they wanted to be confirmed as a family and have a familiar and trusting relationship with healthcare personnel. They valued being informed concerning the care of the ill person so that they could give support at home. It was also important to be compassionately viewed as an important person in a welcoming atmosphere based on respect and dignity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
