Abstract

Item does not contain fulltext, DICER1 syndrome is a tumor predisposition syndrome that is associated with up to 30 different neoplastic lesions, usually affecting children and adolescents. Here we identify a group of mesenchymal tumors which is highly associated with DICER1 syndrome, and molecularly distinct from other DICER1-associated tumors. This group of DICER1-associated mesenchymal tumors encompasses multiple well-established clinicopathological tumor entities and can be further divided into three clinically meaningful classes designated "low-grade mesenchymal tumor with DICER1 alteration" (LGMT DICER1), "sarcoma with DICER1 alteration" (SARC DICER1), and primary intracranial sarcoma with DICER1 alteration (PIS DICER1). Our study not only provides a combined approach to classify DICER1-associated neoplasms for improved clinical management but also suggests a role for global hypomethylation and other recurrent molecular events in sarcomatous differentiation in mesenchymal tumors with DICER1 alteration. Our results will facilitate future investigations into prognostication and therapeutic approaches for affected patients.

Abstract

During 1985-86 CARDI introduced their "cut and carry" system to eight sma11 farms in the Roseau Valley, Dominica. The purpose was to improve dairy production and train farmers and extension officers in better cattle management. After one year, all farmers had established elephant grass of which they were feeding lactating cattle up to 55 kg fresh weight daily. This was supplemented daily with a high phosphorus mineral and coconut meal plus legumes and crop wastes when available. Other improved practices included housing, artificial insemination, testing for mastitis, synchronized breeding, record keeping, correct milking practices and systematic use of acaricides and anthelmintics. These practices resulted in increases in lactation length from 170-175 days to 238 days and lactation yields from 525-613 litres to 952 litres. A 194 day decrease in calving interval was also recorded.

Abstract

A factorial design was used to ascertain the vegetative and reproductive responses of thirty Cajanus cajan (L.) Millsp. accessions to three sowing dates. Data for the number of days to 50% flowering and the plant heights at that stage are presented herein. Preflowering durations and plant heights varied between planting dates and accessions. The interaction between plant height and sowing date was significant, but negligible variation occurred in the temperature and the daylength at 50% flowering. Data did not facilitate delineation of the relative photoperiodic sensitivity of the accessions but facilitated classification based on the average preflowering phase over the three planting dates.
