JUICE is the first large mission chosen in the framework of ESA’s Cosmic Vision 2015-2025 program. The focus of JUICE is to characterize the conditions that might have led to the emergence of habitable environments among the Jovian icy satellites, in particular Europa, Callisto and Ganymede. In addition, JUICE will also perform a multidisciplinary investigation of the Jupiter system as an archetype for gas giants. To address those key science objectives, the spacecraft payload consists of 10 state-of-the-art instruments (and one experiment that use the spacecraft telecommunication system with ground-based instruments) that will perform remote and in-situ measurements of Jupiter, its moon and their environment. From a trajectory’s point of view, the mission calls for a three-year orbital survey of the Jupiter System designed as a sequence of 67 orbits around the planet of different periods and inclinations, and includes 35 flybys of Europa (2), Ganymede (12) and Callisto (21). The second part of the mission will devote an additional 9 months in orbit around Ganymede for an in-depth characterization of Ganymede as a planetary object and possible habitat. By its touring nature and due to the diversity of science targets and different disciplines involved in the mission, the development of an observation plan will often face conflicting observations opportunities, also limited in resources as a consequence of the large helio- and geo-centric distances at play. The Science Operations Center, together with the Project Scientist and the Science Working Team, are in charge of setting up and developing a science planning strategy for the mission to ensure that the prime science objectives of the mission are addressed while remaining compatible with the mission constraints. The JUICE Science Planning Process for the Jupiter tour consists of two main pillars: Segmentation of the trajectory. Based on the Cassini heritage, this activity relies on the analysis of all science opportunities along the tour to subsequently support the decision on selecting a prime scientific objective that will get priority in terms of resources (data volume, power and pointing) for a specific time window (a.k.a segment). Taking into account known operational activities’ constraints (navigation, wheel off-loading etc) and high-level resources’ estimate, an analysis of the expected scientific coverage and resource status along the tour is performed, and several iterations between the different disciplines experts (through the science working groups) take place to converge towards a plan that should ensure that prime science objectives of the mission are fulfilled within the operational constraints of the mission. Detailed sizing case analysis for science operations: For specific operationally of scientifically challenging sections of the segmentation, in-depth analysis is needed in order to refine resources assumptions (attitude, power and data volume) made at segmentation level. Those detailed analysis, performed down to observation level, is done in collaboration with the instrument teams. The present work will describe the different steps and groups involved in the science planning, the current status of the segmentation, and the detailed analysis of the first JUICE Europa flybys will be presented.

The moon-coverage tool is a Python package currently used by ESA-SOC for the JUICE mission to plan and visualize Jupiter’s moons surface coverage. It supports instrument footprint projections and region of interest intersections. Introduction: One of the key elements to assess the quality of an observation plan is to visualize its spatial coverage at different scales (global, regional and local). All the planetary missions, past, current and future use JPL/NAIF SPICE kernels to describe the position of the spacecraft and its orientation in space [1]. These files are usually produced by space agencies and require advanced users to interpret them to know when and how a given surface feature is visible on a planetary body. A planning tool in Python: To simplify the identification of these opportunities, we developed the moon-coverage, a Python package built on top of spiceypy [2] that provides an object-oriented approach to perform spacecraft trajectory computations (Fig. 1), instrument field of view projections (Fig. 2) and region of interest intersections (Fig. 3). Originally developed for the ESA-JUICE mission, the tool can now handle any space mission (Europa-Clipper, BepiColombo, EnVision, Juno…). Resources: The source-code of the moon-coverage is publicly available on the JUICE Gitlab and distributed under open-source BSD license (https://moon-coverage.univ-nantes.fr). It is continuously tested on Python 3.8+ version and regularly deployed on PyPI. An extensive documentation is also available online with many examples than can be reproduced in Jupyter environments locally or ESA DataLabs. Future developments: Currently the spacecraft/instrument pointing is based on the default camera kernels (ck). In a future release, we will allow the user to provide a Planning Timeline Request file (PTR) to perform custom adjustment of the attitude. We will also support planetary projections to display the result in polar/orthographic/sinusoidal views. The main objective of this research project is to develop super-resolution mapping methods to increase the spatial resolution of surface maps of icy moons of the Solar System by combining all the overlapping observations acquired during a given planetary mission. Cassini-Huygens was the first dedicated mission to Saturn, where it spent 13 years studying the gas giant and its system of moons and rings creating a treasure-trove of data. The focus of this study is to create global surface cartographic products in the infrared by evaluating the Cassini’s Visual and Infrared Mapping Spectrometer (VIMS) hyperspectral dataset in its entirety. We will first focus our efforts on developing, testing and validating the methods on Enceladus, a prime astrobiological candidate, which, in contrast to Titan, does not require any atmospheric corrections. We offer a new module in Python for creating the navigation cubes necessary in merging individual cubes into global mosaics, increasing the accuracy of the covered area and maximising the number of pixels used (e.g. limb-crossing pixels). Moreover, this new module, allows us to explore the Enceladus VIMS dataset in its entirety. We then determine a surface photometric function which mitigates variations in the brightness due to the changing geometric conditions of the flybys. With a precise and comprehensive navigation and an accurate surface photometric correction, we can apply the super-resolution method and present some preliminary maps with enhanced spatial resolution and signal-to-noise ratio.

International audience; Objective: Fatigue is one of the disabling sequelae of traumatic brain injury (TBI), with repercussions on quality of life, rehabilitation, and professional reintegration. Research is needed on effective interventions. We evaluated efficacy of blue-enriched white light (BWL) therapy on fatigue of patients with severe TBI. Setting: Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and Physiology departments of University hospitals. Participants: Adult patients with fatigue symptoms following severe TBI, Fatigue Severity Scale (FSS) score 4 or more, Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS) score 10 or more, and/or Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI]) more than 5 were randomly assigned to one of 2 parallel groups: a BWL therapy group, with 30-minute exposure to waking white light enriched with blue for 4 weeks, and a group without light therapy (N-BWL), no light. Design: Randomized controlled trial. ClinicalTrials.gov number: NCT02420275. Main Measures: The primary outcome measure was the response of the FSS to 4 weeks of treatment. In addition, we assessed latency change of the P300 component of event-related potentials before and after therapy. Results: Significant improvement in the FSS score (P =.026) was found in the BWL group compared with the N-BWL group. Conclusion: BWL phototherapy reduces fatigue in patients with severe TBI.

Resume Objectifs Proposer une revue de litterature sur les troubles cognitifs de la population de sans domicile fixe (SDF) generale, et en analyser les etiologies possibles. Methodes En respectant les normes PRISMA, la lecture de 385 resumes d’articles a permis d’isoler 22 etudes constituant ainsi le corpus de litterature. La qualite methodologique de ces resultats a ete analysee selon les criteres de Loney et collaborateurs. Des analyses quantitatives et une comparaison qualitative ont permis d’apporter des conclusions generales sur les troubles cognitifs et leurs etiologies chez la population SDF. Resultats Ces 22 etudes, realisees dans 9 pays differents, et sur un total de 4 256 participants SDF, ont majoritairement une qualite methodologique consideree comme faible. Au niveau de la cognition, on retrouve une efficience cognitive globale deficitaire chez 8,77 % des participants. Le quotient intellectuel moyen s’eleve a 87,47. On note aussi que les performances de memoire episodique, des fonctions executives, de memoire a court terme et des fonctions instrumentales se situent dans la moyenne basse. En ce qui concerne l’etiologie des troubles, on retient que les personnes SDF ont des antecedents eleves de traumatismes crâniens, de traumatismes dans l’enfance, d’abus de substances et de troubles psychiatriques. Conclusions Les personnes SDF souffrent frequemment de difficultes cognitives, notamment mnesiques et dysexecutives. Pour determiner quels facteurs peuvent expliquer au mieux ces difficultes, il convient de developper des recherches plus exhaustives et precises sur la question. Les troubles cognitifs entravant les possibilites de reinsertion socio-professionnelle, il est egalement primordial que les connaissances sur la cognition s’integrent a l’accompagnement de ces personnes.

The objective was to assess the relationships between neuropsychological impairments, functional outcome and life satisfaction in a longitudinal study of patients after a severe traumatic brain injury (TBI) (PariS-TBI study).Out of 243 survivors, 86 were evaluated 8 years post-injury. They did not significantly differ from patients lost-to-follow up except for the latter being more frequently students or unemployed before the injury.Outcome measures included the Glasgow Outcome Scale-Extended (GOS-E), a functional independence questionnaire, employment, mood, fatigue and satisfaction with life. Neuropsychological outcome was assessed by two ways: performance-based outcome measures, using neuropsychological tests and patient and relative-based measures.Neuropsychological measures were not significantly related to initial injury severity nor to gender, but were significantly related to age and education. After statistical correction for multiple comparisons, cognitive testing and cognitive questionnaires were significantly correlated with most outcome measures. By contrast, satisfaction with life was only related with patient-rated questionnaires. A regression analysis showed that the Trail-Making-Test-A was the best predictor of functional outcome, in addition to education duration.Cognitive measures, particularly slowed information processing speed, were significant indicators of functional outcome at a long-term post-injury, beyond and above demographics or injury severity measures.

JUICE - JUpiter ICy moons Explorer - is the first large mission in the ESA Cosmic Vision 2015-2025 programme. The mission was selected in May 2012, and is now (May 2021) in the final stages of its integration and testing campaigns. Following its arrival at Jupiter in July 2031, JUICE will spend 4.2 years making detailed observations of Jupiter and three of the Galilean moons, Ganymede, Callisto and Europa. We present here the plan of activities to be carried out during the interplanetary cruise phase. 1. Trajectory during the cruise phase The mission will be launched from Kourou with an Ariane 5. The baseline launch window is between 26 August – 15 September 2022, with a backup launch slot in August 2023. The interplanetary transfer sequence relies on gravity assist manoeuvres with Venus, Earth and the Moon. The Jupiter orbit insertion will be performed in July 2031. The cruise phase officially starts after the end of the near-Earth commissioning (launch + 3 months) and ends six months before the Jupiter orbit insertion, when the nominal science mission begins. Spacecraft and mission constraints during the cruise phase The main limitations during the cruise phase are: Priority of operations in support of navigation and spacecraft safety, especially in the preparation of gravity assist manoeuvres, in particular the world premiere of Lunar-Earth gravity assist The thermal design of the spacecraft which imposes, for heliocentric distances lower than 1.34 AU, restricted pointing capabilities and limitations in the number of instruments that can operate simultaneously. Quiet Cruise baseline: Reduced number of ground contacts (one ground station pass per week except for planetary flybys). Operational constraint to minimize the use of the mass memory during Cruise to preserve unit lifetime, limiting the possibility to operate the instruments and store their data. Budgetary restrictions that result in small operation teams during this phase. The baseline operations of the instruments are two one-week checkouts per year. It is expected that at least some of the observations will take place during the planetary flybys, with different possibilities still under study. The requests for operating the payload beyond this baseline will be carefully analyzed and agreed on a best-effort basis. The next section gives example of possible observations. 3. Potential scientific investigations to be performed during the cruise phase Instrument operations during the cruise phase are always useful: they allow calibrating instruments in known environments (e.g. solar wind, Earth’s magnetosphere), checking possible interferences between instruments, they provide scientific results (sometimes not expected and outstanding, resulting in high standard publications) and attract public attention. During the long cruise phase of the JUICE mission, a number of scientific opportunities have been identified, beyond the obvious case of the planetary flybys. They include: solar wind campaigns, neutral atoms imaging in the heliosphere, measurement of Jovian escaping relativistic electrons, measurements of interplanetary dust, test of the general relativity around solar conjunctions, observation of the cosmological radio background, and an asteroid flyby (to be further studied). 4. JUICE teams activities during the cruise phase The JUICE teams (mission operation center, science operations center, instrument teams, science working team, working groups, project scientist and mission manager) will be busy with numerous activities. A non-exhaustive list is given below: Spacecraft navigation and operations in the inner solar system, including planetary flybys and payload checkouts; Decision about an asteroid flyby (shortly after launch); Analysis of the cruise data, instrument calibration, scientific analysis, publication and archive; Refinement and agreement (three years before Jupiter orbit insertion) on the trajectory within the Jupiter system; Preparation of the science planning of the nominal mission and of the science analysis of the future data; Studying and preparing the coordination with ground-based and space observatories; Publication of a special issue with mission, instruments and science articles; Recruitment of guest investigators and of potentially additional interdisciplinary scientists; Continue the fruitful collaboration with the NASA Clipper teams. Conclusions The JUICE cruise phase, despite its long duration (9 years), will be busy with many activities, with the goal of being fully ready to start the scientific observations from early 2031 onwards. Objective: The aim of this study is to review published research on treatment of social cognition impairments in patients with traumatic brain injury (TBI).Methods: Following the PRISMA guidelines, a PubMed literature search was conducted, followed by a manual search in recently published papers. Main criteria for selection were that patients had sustained a TBI, and that social cognition was the main target of treatment. A total of 16 papers and three reviews were selected and included in the present review.Results: Five studies (including three randomized controlled trials (RCT)) addressed facial affect recognition, one study specifically addressed emotional prosody, two RCTs used a combination of treatment strategies addressing social perception deficits. Six studies, including two RCTs, addressed social communication skills or theory of mind. Finally, two RCTs reported the effectiveness of a more global approach, addressing multiple domains of social cognition, such as emotion perception, social skills training, and theory of mind.Discussion/conclusion: Although there has been much less research on treatment of social cognition in patients with TBI as compared with psychiatric conditions, the findings reported in the present review are encouraging. Further multicenter large-scale RCTs are needed, with special emphasis on the generalization of treatment effects to social skills in everyday life.

International audience; Background: Severe traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a leading cause of complex and persistent disability. Yet, long-term change in global functioning and determinants of this change remain unclear. Objectives: This study aimed to assess change in global functioning in the long-term after severe TBI and factors associated with the change. Methods: This was a prospective observational study of an inception cohort of adults with severe TBI in the Paris area (PariS-TBI). Outcome was assessed at 1, 4 and 8 years post-injury. For the included participants (n = 257), change in global outcome between 4 and 8 years was evaluated with the Glasgow Outcome Scale Extended (GOSE) score, and its association with pre-injury, injury-related and post-injury variables was tested with univariate and multivariable analyses. Results: More than half of the 73 participants evaluated at both 4 and 8 years showed global improvement (of at least one point) in GOSE score and an improvement in mood, executive function, and subjective complaints. On univariate analysis, none of the pre-injury, injury or post-injury variables were associated with GOSE score change between 4 and 8 years, except for GOSE score at 4 years (rho = −0.24, P = 0.04). On multivariable analysis, probability of increased GOSE score was associated with more years of education (odds ratio 1.18 [95% confidence interval 1.02–1.37], P = 0.03). The change in GOSE score was significantly correlated with change in Hospital Anxiety Depression Scale score between 4 and 8 years (rho = −0.42, P < 0.001). Conclusions: Most participants with severe TBI in the present sample showed a late improvement (4 to 8 years post-injury) in global functioning. Of the socio-demographic and injury-related factors, only more years of education was associated with improvement in global functioning. Decreased anxiety and depression symptoms were associated with improved global functioning. Targeting interventions to enhance resilience may be the most effective in the long-term after severe TBI.

Occultations of the Jovian low frequency radio emissions by the Galilean moons have been observed by the PWS instrument of the Galileo spacecraft. We show that the ExPRES (Exoplanetary and Planetary Radio Emission Simulator) code accurately models the temporal occurrence of the occultations in the whole spectral range observed by Galileo/PWS. This validates of the ExPRES code. The method can be applied for preparing the JUICE moon flyby science operation planning. Occultations of the Jovian low frequency radio emissions by the Galilean moons have been observed by the PWS (Plasma Wave Science) instrument of the Galileo spacecraft. Thermal properties of frozen salt solutions are crucial to interpret the JUpiter ICy moons Explorer (JUICE) (ESA) and Europa Clipper (NASA) missions, which will be launched in the upcoming years to make detailed observations of the giant gaseous planet Jupiter and three of its largest moons (Ganymede, Callisto, and Europa) due to the scarcity of experimental measurements. Therefore, we have conducted a set of experiments to measure and study the thermal conductivity and calorimetry of macroscopic frozen salt solutions of particular interest in these regions, including Na-chloride (NaCl), Mg-sulphate (MgSO4), sodium sulphate (Na2SO4), and Magnesium chloride (MgCl2). A climatic chamber has been used to mimic the cryogenic conditions in the Jovian Icy Moons. Measurements were performed at atmospheric pressure and temperatures from 0 to -70ºC. Temperature and thermal conductivity were measured during the course of the experiments. A side effect of these measurements is that they served to spot phase changes in the ice mixtures. A small sample of the liquid salt-water solution was set aside for the calorimetry measurements. These experiments and the measurements of thermal conductivity and calorimetry will be valuable to constrain the chemical composition, physical state, and temperature of the upper layers of the icy crusts of Ganymede, Callisto, and Europa (please see abstracts EPSC Muñoz Iglesias et al. 2020 and EPSC Solomonidou et al. 2020).

In the coming years The JUpiter ICy moons Explorer (JUICE) (ESA) and Europa Clipper (NASA) missions will study the icy crusts of the main Galilean moons of Jupiter. They will use the penetrating radars RIME and REASON, which will work at wave frequency ranges able to penetrate up to 9 and 30 Km depth respectively, in combination with other instruments [Bruzzone et al. 2013, Aglyamov et al. 2017]. In this regard, we have started a set of experiments to study the electrical properties of materials at low temperatures with the aim to help with the interpretation obtained from the level of attenuation of the radar waves. Ultimately, they will be useful to constrain the chemical composition, physical state and temperature of the upper layers of the icy crusts of Ganymede, Callisto and Europa (please see abstracts EPSC González Díaz et al. 2020 and EPSC Solomonidou et al. 2020). The first set of experiments have been done in a high-pressure chamber equipped with pressure and temperature sensors in direct contact with the sample and a large sapphire window which allows textural and spectroscopic analyses. We have characterized aqueous solutions with salts (MgSO4, NaCl, MgCl2, Mg(ClO4)2, Na2CO3), volatiles (CO2) and clays (nontronite, montmorillonite) at temperatures down to 223 K and pressures up to 60 MPa. Samples were studied by pressure-temperature (P-T) cycles in two ways: (a) first freezing the solution and pressurizing it (TPPT method) and (b) first pressurizing the solution and then freezing it (PTTP method), in order to examine textural and grain size heterogeneities and fracture formation depending on the method of formation. The cooling of the samples led to the final formation of water ice, hydrated salts and clathrate hydrates. Raman spectroscopy was used to control the mineral assemblages and understand better the crust environments and processes that can explain the resulting values, like the appearance of supercooled brines, amorphous phases and recrystallizations during the P-T cycles. We measured the dielectric properties of these samples with a BDS80 Broadband Dielectric Spectroscopy system (Novocontrol) which allows to work in a frequency range from 1 Hz to 10 MHz and temperatures from 143 to 323 K. Both permittivity and electric conductivity were measured at 0.1 MPa while cooling the samples in temperature steps of 10 K. From these data we estimated, on the one hand, the activation energy for motion of the electric charges of each solution, and on the other hand, the attenuation of the radar wave depending on the chemical composition and the temperature of the sample, and the frequency of the electric field applied [Pettinelli et al. 2015]. The already obtained novel data will be used as reference for a second set of experiments, consisting on the same dielectric properties’ characterization but, in this set, samples will be also subjected to high pressure conditions. The JUpiter ICy moons Explorer (JUICE) (ESA) and Europa Clipper (NASA) missions will be launched in the next decade in order to spend a number of years making detailed observations of the giant gaseous planet Jupiter and three of its largest moons, Ganymede, Callisto, and Europa. The focus of both missions is to scrutinize the nature of these icy moons and characterize the conditions that may have led to the emergence of habitable environment for life. A particular aspect of both JUICE and Europa Clipper missions is the exploration of the icy crusts, which comprises a new and very focused objective for outer solar system missions. A good example however of such investigations has been presented by Cassini’s RADAR instrument. One of JUICE’s tasks is to characterize the structure and properties of the ice shell by probing the subsurface of Ganymede down to a depth of a few kilometers. An additional task of JUICE’s ice penetrating RIME and Clipper’s radar REASON is to obtain profiles of subsurface thermal, compositional, and structural horizons down to a maximum depth of 1 to 9 km depending on the crust’s properties. However, the interpretation of radar sounding experiments relies on the ability to decipher the backscattering patterns. The icy moons of Jupiter have been reported to be efficient backscatters of cm-wavelength radiations, showing polarization effects that must be due to factors other than the only single scattering process at the space-body surface interface. The identification of the characteristics of the backscattering radiation results from the superposition of backscattering layers with different electrical properties as a function of depth. Amongst the properties likely to modify the backscattering efficiency are: the amount of silicate (partial absorbers), the ice salinity, and the distribution of cracks present in the layer (inhomogeneity of the medium at size scales comparable to the radar wavelengths). Consequently, direct measurements of the dielectric values (electrical conductivity and permittivity) of an icy layer with properties controlled in the lab could unveil the backscattering efficiency of the sample. We provide here the first version of a database of measurements, following a number of laboratory experiments made at CAB-CSIC-INTA, in collaboration with UCM and CSIC-ITEFI (Please see abstracts EPSC Muñoz-Iglesias et al. and EPSC Gonzalez-Díaz et al.), collected and classified based on the parameters and properties of the different ice samples, which are manufactured to resemble the Jovian moon ice compositions. During the experiments, different conditions of T and P were applied and the recorded measurements of electrical properties were collected in this database of ‘ice behavior’. Since the next remote sensing data are not expected anytime before the arrival of JUICE and Europa Clipper (around 2030), the database provides us with the opportunity to compare with the current literature and the data available for the Jovian icy moons from previous missions, but also add information that is currently missing and relate that information to relative surface processes. The ice database would facilitate the interpretation of future radar sounding measurements, providing a better constrain on the true nature of ices of the surfaces of JUICE’s and Europa Clipper’s future targets.

The ExPRES code simulates exoplanetary and planetary auroral radio emissions. It could be used to predict and interpret Jupiter’s radio emissions in the hectometric and decametric range. In this study, we model the occultations of the Jovian auroral radio emissions during the Galilean moons flybys by the Galileo spacecraft. In this study, we focus on auroral radio emissions, configuring the ExPRES simulations runs with typical radio source physical parameters. We compare the simulations run results with the actual Galileo/PWS observations, and show that we accurately model the temporal occurrence of the occultations in the whole spectral range observed by Galileo. We can then predict auroral radio emission occultations by the Galilean moons for the Juno and JUICE missions. ExPRES will be used by the JUICE/RPWI (Radio Plasma Waves Investigation) team to prepare its operation planning during the Galilean moon flybys for, e.g., the Galilean moon ionosphere characterization science objective, with passive ionospheric sounding during ingress and egress of Jovian radio source occultations.

The Planetary Science Archive (PSA) is the European Space Agency's (ESA) repository of science data from all planetary science and exploration missions. The PSA provides access to scientific data sets through various interfaces at http://psa.esa.int . All data sets are scientifically peer-reviewed by independent scientists, and are compliant with the Planetary Data System (PDS) standards. Mostly driven by the evolution of the PDS standards which all new ESA planetary missions shall follow and the need to update the interfaces to the archive, the PSA has undergone an important re-engineering. In order to maximise the scientific exploitation of ESA's planetary data holdings, significant improvements have been made by utilising the latest technologies and implementing widely recognised open standards. To facilitate users in handling and visualising the many products stored in the archive which have spatial data associated, the new PSA supports Geographical Information Systems (GIS) by implementing the standards approved by the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC). The modernised PSA also attempts to increase interoperability with the international community by implementing recognised planetary science specific protocols such as the PDAP (Planetary Data Access Protocol) and EPN-TAP (EuroPlanet-Table Access Protocol). In this paper we describe some of the methods by which the archive may be accessed and present the challenges that are being faced in consolidating data sets of the older PDS3 version of the standards with the new PDS4 deliveries into a single data model mapping to ensure transparent access to the data for users and services whilst maintaining a high performance.

The European Space Agency (ESA) Planetary Science Archive (PSA) is undergoing a significant refactoring of all its components to improve the services provided to the scientific community and the public. The PSA supports ESA's missions exploring the Solar System by archiving scientific peer-reviewed observations as well as engineering data sets. This includes the Giotto, SMART-1, Huygens, Venus Express, Mars Express, Rosetta, Exomars 2016, Exomars RSP, BepiColombo, and JUICE missions. The PSA is offering a newly designed graphical user interface which is simultaneously meant to maximize the interaction with scientific observations and also minimise the efforts needed to download these scientific observations. The PSA still offers the same services as before (i.e., FTP, documentation, helpdesk, etc.). In addition, it will support the two formats of the Planetary Data System (i.e., PDS3 and PDS4), as well as providing new ways for searching the data products with specific metadata and geometrical parameters. As well as enhanced services, the PSA will also provide new services to improve the visualisation of data products and scientific content (e.g., spectra, etc.). Together with improved access to the spacecraft engineering data sets, the PSA will provide easier access to scientific data products that will help to maximize the science return of ESA's space missions.

The Rosetta mission arrived at comet 67 P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko in Summer 2014, after more than 10 years in space. All previous mission encounters with a comet have provided a snapshot of the cometary activity at a given heliocentric distance. In contrast, Rosetta has escorted the comet nucleus for an extended period (>2 years) at a large range of cometo-centric and heliocentric distances, which has provided exceptional and unprecedented observing conditions to study, analyse and monitor 67 P during its passage to, through and away from perihelion. One of the biggest challenges of this mission is the development of an observation plan that adequately addresses the mission's science objectives while coping with a largely unknown and continuously evolving environment that constantly modifies the planning constraints. The Rosetta Science Ground Segment (RSGS), in support of the Project Scientist and the Science Working Team, is in charge of translating the high level mission science objectives into a low level pointing and operations plan. We present here the high-level science planning process adopted during the comet escort phase. We describe the main science objectives addressed along the mission lifetime, the different groups involved in the science planning, and the approach followed to translate those requirements into a viable and scientifically valid operations plan. Finally, we describe how the science planning scheme has evolved since arrival at the comet to react to the unexpected environment, largely reducing the planning lead times.

The international Rosetta mission was launched on 2nd March 2004 and after its ten year journey, arrived at its target destination of comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko, during 2014. Following the January 2014 exit from a two and half year hibernation period, Rosetta approached and arrived at the comet in August 2014. In November 2014, the Philae lander was deployed from Rosetta onto the comet׳s surface after which the orbiter continued its approximately one and a half year comet escort phase. The Rosetta Science Ground Segment׳s primary roles within the project are to support the Project Scientist and the Science Working Team, in order to ensure the coordination, development, validation and delivery of the desired science operations plans and their associated operational products throughout the mission., whilst also providing support to the Principle Investigator teams (including the Philae lander team) in order to ensure the provision of adequate data to the Planetary Science Archive. The lead up to, and execution of, the November 2014 Philae landing, and the subsequent Philae activities through 2015, have presented numerous unique challenges to the project teams. This paper discusses these challenges, and more specifically, their impact on the overall mission science planning activities. It details how the Rosetta Science Ground Segment has addressed these issues in collaboration with the other project teams in order to accommodate Philae operations within the continually evolving Rosetta science planning process.

The European Space Agency's spacecraft ROSETTA has reached its final destination, comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko. Whilst orbiting in the close vicinity of the nucleus the ROSETTA magnetometers detected a new type of low-frequency wave possibly generated by a cross-field current instability due to freshly ionized cometary water group particles. During separation, descent and landing of the lander PHILAE on comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko, we used the unique opportunity to perform combined measurements with the magnetometers onboard ROSETTA (RPCMAG) and its lander PHILAE (ROMAP). New details about the spatial distribution of wave properties along the connection line of the ROSETTA orbiter and the lander PHILAE are revealed. An estimation of the observed amplitude, phase and wavelength distribution will be presented as well as the measured dispersion relation, characterizing the new type of low-frequency waves. The propagation direction and polarization features will be discussed using the results of a minimum variance analysis. Thoughts about the size of the wave source will complete our study.

OBJECTIVE: To assess the sensitivity of traditional neuropsychological tests and of a behavioral inventory of executive disorders in a large sample of patients with chronic severe traumatic brain injury. METHODS: A total of 112 patients were compared with 780 healthy controls from a larger database. The GREFEX battery included 7 widely used tests and the Behavioral Dysexecutive Syndrome Inventory (proxy rating). A previously described statistical methodology was used, controlling for age, education, and gender. Summary scores were computed and performance was dichotomized on the basis of 5th percentile cutoffs from controls' z scores. RESULTS: The frequency of cognitive impairment was high (55.4%) but lower than that of behavioral changes (81.5%). Double dissociations were observed between cognitive and behavioral assessments. Behavioral changes exhibited larger effect-sizes as compared with cognitive impairments. Logistic regression analysis showed that 3 cognitive tests (verbal fluency, Stroop reading, and Trail Making Test-B) and 3 behavior z scores (hypoactivity, anticipation, and hyperactivity) best discriminated patients from controls. CONCLUSION: Behavioral changes were more frequent and severe than cognitive deficits, at least as assessed with traditional testing. The present results also suggest that a shortened battery may provide a rapid screening method with reasonable sensitivity to detect deficits of executive functions in patients with severe traumatic brain injury. OBJECTIVES: To assess determinants of loss to follow-up (FU) at 2 time points of an inception traumatic brain injury (TBI) cohort. DESIGN AND PARTICIPANTS: The PariS-TBI study consecutively included 504 adults with severe TBI on the accident scene (76% male, mean age 42 years, mean Glasgow Coma Scale 5). No exclusion criteria were used. MAIN MEASURE: Loss to FU at 1 and 4 years was defined among survivors as having no outcome data other than survival status. RESULTS: Among 257 1-year survivors, 118 (47%) were lost to FU at 1 year and 98 (40%) at 4 years. Main reasons for loss to FU were impossibility to achieve contact (109 at 1 year, 52 at 4 years) and refusal to participate (respectively 5 and 24). At 1 year, individuals not working preinjury or with nonaccidental traumas were more often lost to FU in univariate and multivariable analyses. At 4 years, loss to FU was significantly associated with preinjury alcohol abuse and unemployment. Relationship with injury severity was not significant. CONCLUSIONS: Socially disadvantaged persons are underrepresented in TBI outcome research. It could result in overestimation of outcome and biased estimates of sociodemographic characteristics' effects. The repercussions of cognitive disorders resulting from a traumatic brain injury are considerable in patients' daily life. Their quality of life and that of their families is significantly reduced; their reintegration into working life difficult. This chronic cognitive disability requires adapted treatment.

International audience; The inner magnetosphere electric currents configuration and mapping is one of the key elements for understanding current loop closure inside the entire magnetosphere. The ring current is toroidal and flows in the near‐Earth region, where the magnetic field is dipole‐like. This current system is driven by the pressure gradients, and it is formed by the drift of the energetic charged particles that are injected from the magnetotail toward the Earth during the magnetospheric storms and substorms. A method for directly computing currents in space is the multispacecraft curlometer technique, which is based on the Maxwell‐Ampère law application. This requires the use of four‐point simultaneous magnetic field measurements. The FGM (Fluxgate Magnetometer) experiment on board the four Cluster spacecraft allowed for the first time the instantaneous calculation of the magnetic field gradients and thus the measurement of the local current density. This technique requires, however, a careful analysis concerning all the factors that can affect the accuracy of the current density calculation. The CIS (Cluster Ion Spectrometry) experiment on board these spacecraft provides the ion distribution functions of the current carriers within its energy range. Earlier and more recent results, based on Cluster data acquired during passes in the ring current region at different perigee altitudes, are reviewed in the light of recent progress on the accuracy of the method.

The Rating Scale of Attentional Behaviour (RSAB) was devised by Ponsford and Kinsella to assess the impact of attentional impairments on everyday behaviour. The scale includes 14 items. The objective of this study was to assess the psychometric properties of a French translation of the RSAB. A sample of 196 healthy participants and 27 patients with chronic acquired brain injury was included. For healthy participants, both self and a relative's ratings were independently recorded. For the patients, a therapist's rating was obtained in addition. The scale showed good internal consistency. A mild significant effect of education duration was found in the healthy control group. Principal component analysis in healthy participants (self-assessment) yielded three underlying factors accounting for 58.2% of the variance. The scale was able to adequately discriminate patients from healthy controls. The area under the ROC curve was 0.76 both for self- and proxy ratings. In the patient group, the item related to fatigue was the one that obtained the highest ranking. RSAB ratings were poorly related to neuropsychological testing, but proxy ratings were significantly correlated with other questionnaires assessing cognitive failures, mood and fatigue.

To describe employment outcome four years after a severe traumatic brain injury by the assessment of individual patients' preinjury sociodemographic data, injury-related and postinjury factors.A prospective, multicenter inception cohort of 133 adult patients in the Paris area (France) who had received a severe traumatic brain injury were followed up postinjury at one and four years. Sociodemographic data, factors related to injury severity and one-year functional and cognitive outcomes were prospectively collected.The main outcome measure was employment status. Potential predictors of employment status were assessed by univariate and multivariate analysis.At the four-year follow-up, 38% of patients were in paid employment. The following factors were independent predictors of unemployment: being unemployed or studying before traumatic brain injury, traumatic brain injury severity (i.e., a lower Glasgow Coma Scale score upon admission and a longer stay in intensive care) and a lower one-year Glasgow Outcome Scale-Extended score.This study confirmed the low rate of long-term employment amongst patients after a severe traumatic brain injury. The results illustrated the multiple determinants of employment outcome and suggested that students who had received a traumatic brain injury were particularly likely to be unemployed, thus we propose that they may require specific support to help them find work. Implications for rehabilitation Traumatic brain injury is a leading cause of persistent disablity and can associate cognitive, emotional, physical and sensory impairments, which often result in quality-of-life reduction and job loss. Predictors of post-traumatic brain injury unemployment and job loss remains unclear in the particular population of severe traumatic brain injury patients. The present study highlights the post-traumatic brain injury student population require a close follow-up and vocational rehabilitation. The study suggests that return to work post-severe traumatic brain injury is frequently unstable and workers often experience difficulties that caregivers have to consider.

Objective: To evaluate the patient’s awareness of his or her difficulties in the chronic phase of severe traumatic brain injury (TBI) and to determine the factors related to poor awareness. Design/Setting/Subjects: This study was part of a larger prospective inception cohort study of patients with severe TBI in the Parisian region (PariS-TBI study). Intervention/Main measures: Evaluation was carried out at four years and included the Brain Injury Complaint Questionnaire (BICoQ) completed by the patient and his or her relative as well as the evaluation of impairments, disability and quality of life. Results: A total of 90 patient-relative pairs were included. Lack of awareness was measured using the unawareness index that corresponded to the number of discordant results between the patient and relative in the direction of under evaluation of difficulties by the patient. The only significant relationship found with lack of awareness was the subjective burden perceived by the relative (Zarit Burden Inventory) ( r = 0.5; P < 0.00001). There was no significant relationship between lack of awareness and injury severity, pre-injury socio-demographic data, cognitive impairments, mood disorders, functional independence (Barthel index), global disability (Glasgow Outcome Scale), return to work at four years or quality of life (Quality Of Life after Brain Injury scale (QOLIBRI)). Conclusion: Lack of awareness four years post severe TBI was not related to the severity of the initial trauma, sociodemographic data, the severity of impairments, limitations of activity and participation, or the patient’s quality of life. However, poor awareness did significantly influence the weight of the burden perceived by the relative.

Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a serious healthcare problem, and this report is a selective review of recent findings on the epidemiology, pathophysiology and neuropsychological impairments following TBI. Patients who survive moderate-to-severe TBI frequently suffer from a wide range of cognitive deficits and behavioral changes due to diffuse axonal injury. These deficits include slowed information-processing and impaired long-term memory, attention, working memory, executive function, social cognition and self-awareness. Mental fatigue is frequently also associated and can exacerbate the consequences of neuropsychological deficits. Personality and behavioral changes can include combinations of impulsivity and apathy. Even mild TBI raises specific problems: while most patients recover within a few weeks or months, a minority of patients may suffer from long-lasting symptoms (post-concussion syndrome). The pathophysiology of such persistent problems remains a subject of debate, but seems to be due to both injury-related and non-injury-related factors.

To assess predictors and indicators of disability and quality-of-life 4 years after severe traumatic brain injury (TBI), using structural equation modelling (SEM).The PariS-TBI study is a longitudinal multi-centre inception cohort study of 504 patients with severe TBI. Among 245 survivors, 147 patients were evaluated upon 4-year follow-up, and 85 completed the full assessment. Two outcome measures were analysed separately using SEM: the Glasgow Outcome Scale-extended (GOS-E), to measure disability, and the QOLIBRI, to assess quality-of-life. Four groups of variables were entered in the model: demographics; injury severity; mood and cognitive impairments; somatic impairments.The GOS-E was directly significantly related to mood and cognition, injury severity, and somatic impairments. Age and education had an indirect effect, mediated by mood/cognition or somatic deficiencies. In contrast, the only direct predictor of QOLIBRI was mood and cognition. Age and somatic impairments had an indirect influence on the QOLIBRI.Although this study should be considered as explorative, it suggests that disability and quality-of-life were directly influenced by different factors. While disability appeared to result from an interaction of a wide range of factors, quality-of-life was solely directly related to psycho-cognitive factors.

In the scope of European Space Agency's Rosetta mission, the COmet Nucleus Sounding Experiment by Radio wave Transmission (CONSERT) has sounded the deep interior of the nucleus of comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko. The CONSERT experiment main objective was to image the interior of the comet nucleus. This bi-static radar experiment with instrument units on-board both, the Rosetta main spacecraft and its lander Philae, requires a specific geometric configuration to operate and produce fruitful science data. Thus, these geometric constraints involve mainly the position and orientation of Rosetta and Philae. From the operations planning point of view, the mission constraints imposed observation slots to be defined far before their execution, while the comet shape, spacecraft trajectories and landing site were still unknown. The CONSERT instrument operations scheduling had to be designed jointly for Rosetta and Philae platforms, based on different time scales and planning concepts. We present the methods and tools we developed to cope with the complexity of this planning process. These operations planning concepts allowed handling the complexity of multiple platform operations and the lack of prior knowledge of the observed target.

The data from all Rosetta plasma consortium instruments and from the ROSINA COPS instrument are used to study the interaction of the solar wind with the outgassing cometary nucleus of 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko. During 6 and 7 June 2015, the interaction was first dominated by an increase in the solar wind dynamic pressure, caused by a higher solar wind ion density. This pressure compressed the draped magnetic field around the comet, and the increase in solar wind electrons enhanced the ionization of the outflow gas through collisional ionization. The new ions are picked up by the solar wind magnetic field, and create a ring/ring-beam distribution, which, in a high-β plasma, is unstable for mirror mode wave generation. Two different kinds of mirror modes are observed: one of small size generated by locally ionized water and one of large size generated by ionization and pick-up farther away from the comet.

Les deficits de l’attention, de la memoire de travail et des fonctions executives font partie des sequelles cognitives les plus invalidantes des lesions cerebrales. Plusieurs etudes recentes ont montre que des programmes de reentrainement cognitif specifique pouvaient reduire ces deficits, avec une amelioration dans la vie quotidienne. Les traitements de l’anosognosie et des troubles du comportement ont ete moins evalues.

The electric field and magnetic field are basic quantities in the plasmasphere measured since the 1960s. In this review, we first recall conventional wisdom and remaining problems from ground-based whistler measurements. Then we show scientific results from Cluster and Image, which are specifically made possible by newly introduced features on these spacecraft, as follows. 1. In situ electric field measurements using artificial electron beams are successfully used to identify electric fields originating from various sources. 2. Global electric fields are derived from sequences of plasmaspheric images, revealing how the inner magnetospheric electric field responds to the southward interplanetary magnetic fields and storms/substorms. 3. Understanding of sub-auroral polarization stream (SAPS) or sub-auroral ion drifts (SAID) are advanced through analysis of a combination of magnetospheric and ionospheric measurements from Cluster, Image, and DMSP. 4. Data from multiple spacecraft have been used to estimate magnetic gradients for the first time.

To assess brain injury services utilization and their determinants using Andersen's model.Prospective follow-up of the PariS-TBI inception cohort. Out of 504 adults with severe traumatic brain injury (TBI), 245 survived and 147 received a 4-year outcome assessment (mean age 33 years, 80% men). Provision rates of medical, rehabilitation, social and re-entry services and their relations to patients' characteristics were assessed.Following acute care discharge, 78% of patients received physiotherapy, 61% speech/cognitive therapy, 50% occupational therapy, 41% psychological assistance, 63% specialized medical follow-up, 21% community re-entry assistance. Health-related need factors, in terms of TBI severity, were the main predictors of services. Provision of each therapy was significantly associated with corresponding speech, motor and psychological impairments. However, care provision did not depend on cognitive impairments and cognitive therapy was related to pre-disposing and geographical factors. Community re-entry assistance was provided to younger and more independent patients.These quantitative findings illustrate strengths and weaknesses of late brain injury care provision in urban France and highlight the need to improve treatment of cognitive impairments.
