Abstract

This paper was designed to analyze the petiole anatomical characteristics of six Hedysarum species in Turkey. Paraffine method was applied to obtain cross sections of petiole or handmade sections were used to made anatomical analysis. The cross sections taken from petiole of studied species had an epidermis layer with oval-rectangular shaped. There was a large median bundle in all examined species with smaller lateral two bundles. Collenchymatic tissue changeable from 4 to 8 layered was located in the corners of petiole especially over the vascular bundles in studied species. Multilacunar and trilacunar petiole types were detected to separate species each other. The pith region of petiole had oval shaped parenchymatic cells that in different size. The petiole anatomical characteristics of Hedysarum species were showed that the Subacaulia and Crinifera sections have trilacunar petiole type the most primitive type in Hedysarum genus however Multicaulia section has multilacunar type which is advanced one. In conclusion, the median and lateral bundles size and their patterns are the most constructive petiole anatomical character to separate Hedysarum species has been determined. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

3. Pollen morphology of section Cheirolepis Boiss. of the genus Centaurea L. (Asteraceae) in Turkey

Abstract

WOS: 000515617600001, In this paper, the palynomorphology of 17 taxa of section Cheirolepis in Turkey, were investigated by light (LM) and scanning electron microscope (SEM). Detailed descriptions of the pollen grains were given for each taxon and a well-resolved dendrogram was generated through numerical analysis of palynological diagnostic features. The pollen grains were found to be radially symmetric, isopolar, and generally 3-zonocolporate, with the exception of C. derderiifolia, C. kotschyi var. floccosa, and C. saligna, which were also 4-zonocolporate. The shape of the pollen grains were prolate-spheroidal, with the polar axes of 32.76-46.26 mu m and equatorial axes of 31.86-45.82 mu m. The sculpturing of the pollen grains was generally scabrate-perforate or rarely microechinate-perforate. The spines were conical with a changing base length. The length and the width of the spines varied between 0.48 and 2.28 mu m and 0.4 and 3.39 mu m, respectively. The number of perforations at the base of the spines ranged in two or more rows and they varied between 5 and 30. The number of spines was 16-70 in 10 mu m(2). The results of this study showed that the polar axes, equatorial axes, aperture type, pollen shape, spine length, perforation number, and number of spines in 10 mu m(2) are essential for distinguishing the studied taxa. 4. The comparative palynomorphological studies on Turkish Muscari genera and close relatives (Asparagaceae‐scilloideae) with their taxonomic implications.

Abstract

By this study, the palynomorphological traits of 49 taxa (53 plant samples) of the genus Muscari which has been the main research topic and also its relatives, Pseudomuscari, Hyacinthella and Bellevalia have been studied in details of both using light and scanning electron microscope. In the end of palynologic works, it was suggested the descriptive or symbolized main pollen types to make easier the separation or identification of the species of Muscari and its relative groups. According to this symbolization, the pollen types of species may be changeable as D‐shaped, elliptical, triangular, and spindle shaped and all types could be seen in different members of the studied taxonomic groups in this paper. One of the most important findings of the study is that the taxa of the genus Muscari, Hyacinthella and Bellevalia do not show a main difference in terms of pollen structures and especially they exhibit harmony. Therefore, it does not possible to mention about the special pollen shape own to one species but it is possible to see common pollen types for closely related taxa or taxon groups. As a result, it could be commented that there is not evolved the close taxonomical groups within Asparagaceae in terms of pollen shape and morphologies and there is considerably a high suitability in point of theirs germ cells or microspores among them. Abstract

The present study was designed to evaluate the petiole anatomical characteristics of some Hedysarum species distributed in Turkey using light microscopy (LM) for their systematic and taxonomic importance for correct identification. Paraffine methods were performed to obtain anatomical sections of studied species. Some cross sections were taken by a razor blade and dyed with safranin. All the slides were observed by Leica DM 1000 light microscope. Measurements were made with Cameram 21 program and photos were taken with a Canon EOS 450D camera attached to the light microscope. In petiole transverse sections, the general shapes of the petiole was examined oval or triangular. The epidermis is composed of single layer and epidermal cells of both surfaces are rectangular to oval and have trichomes. Cortex parenchymatic cells which are located under the epidermis are orbicular shaped and are composed of 6-9 layers. The pith cells were only oval shaped in studied species. The results showed that petiole anatomy has important potential role to accurately identify and classify Hedysarum genus. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
