Abstract

A process for the prepn. of dispersions of TiO2 nanocryst. particles with control of their size and shape starting from a Ti alcoholate utilizes alc. as the reaction medium and a compd. capable of reacting with the alc. producing water. The process is performed in the following stages: (a) prepg. a Ti alcoholate soln. in anhyd. alc., (b) adding the compd. capable of reacting with the alc. with water formation, (c) heating of the reaction mixt., (d) purifn. of the reaction product derived from the previous stages by centrifugation with the supernatant elimination and rinsing the collected residue with a solvent.

Abstract

Reaction of cis-PtCl2(PHCy2)2 (1) with oxygenated bases leads to phosphido-bridged dinuclear complexes. The product obtained using sodium hydroxide is the asymmetric Pt1 complex [(Cy2PH)Pt(μ-PCy2)(κ2P,O-μ-Cy 2PO)Pt(Cy2PH)](Pt-Pt) (2), which represents a rare example of a complex containing a Pt-Pt-P-O cycle. The reaction products between 1 and NaOR (R = Me, Et) depend on experimental conditions: lack of base results in the formation of trans-[Pt(PHCy2) Cl(μ-PCy2)]2 (3) as the main product. Using an excess of base at 50°C allowed the isolation of the symmetric PtI dimers [(PCy2OR)P(μ- PCy2)]2(Pt-Pt) (5, R = Me; 7, R = Et) containing two alkyl dicyclohexylphosphinito ligands. The asymmetric compounds [(PCy 2H)Pt(μ-PCy2)2Pt(PCy2OR)](Pt-Pt) (4, R = Me; 8, R = Et) form after work-up of the reaction of 1 with excess NaOR (8 equiv.) in toluene/methanol at room temperature. Investigations on the mechanism of formation of phosphinito PtI complexes (carried out also employing NaOtBu and NaOPh as oxygenated bases) show that the first two steps of the overall reaction are the metathesis leading to cis-Pt(OR) 2(PHCy2)2 and the subsequent formation of terminal phosphido complexes through ROH elimination. Single crystal X-ray diffraction showed that molecules of 5 are located on cristallographic inversion centres; hence their necessarily planar Pt2P2 core contains a Pt-Pt bond.

Abstract

Very high speed Digital Subscriber Line type 2 (VDSL2) systems can achieve significant bit rate values depending on the access network architecture and how far-end crosstalk (FEXT) interference suppression is implemented. The so-called vectoring technology recently became an implementation reality. It was introduced to dynamically suppress 'self-FEXT' in a cable of twisted pairs on both downstream (DS) and upstream (US) signals. In the DS direction, crosstalk pre-compensation precedes modulation, and in the US cancellation follows demodulation. However, vectoring allows to effectively eliminate crosstalk if lines belong to the same vectored group. When this condition is not satisfied, in general, even very few uncontrolled interferers can cause significant performance degradation. In this paper, we evaluate by simulation the VDSL2 performance in scenarios of coexistence between Fibre-To-The-Cabinet (FTTC) with vectoring and Fibre-To-The-Distribution point (FTTDp) architectures. We consider two different combinations of VDSL2 band plans assigned to the FTTC and FTTDp networks. We analyse VDSL2 performance in both cases of absence of spectrum management and implementation of the Downstream Power Back-Off (DPBO) technique. We also study the throughput trade-off between the two VDSL2 systems due to DPBO. Results show that, to protect VDSL2 FTTC systems, DPBO must be configured on VDSL2 FTTDp, whereas the investment required to bring the optical fibre to the distribution point could be justified by the improved performance achievable with the FTTDp architecture, even with the VDSL2 band profiles currently used. The presented coexistence analysis can be useful with reference to the G.fast spectrum allocations currently under definition. © 2014 The Authors.
