As a typical age-strengthened alloy, Cu–Cr–Zr alloys have high strength, good electrical conductivity, and excellent wear resistance. In this work, the Cu–Cr–Zr–Nb alloys were in different aging states after the aging process. After aging at 460 °C for 4 h, the alloy was peak-aging. The common effect of the existence of the FCC Cr particle, which was coherent with the Cu matrix, and the increase in hardness improved the wear property of the alloy. The results of the wear test showed that the optimal wear parameter was a speed of 300 rpm and a load of 5 N. Under these wear parameters, the alloy had the lowest mean coefficient of friction (COF) value and the least mass loss, having the best wear resistance. Furthermore, the wear mechanism of the alloy was mainly adhesive wear and abrasive wear.

The Cu–Cr–Zr–Nb alloy bars were prepared by vacuum melting, hot forging, solution treatment, and drawing. The effects of aging processes on the microstructure, texture, mechanical properties and electrical conductivity of the alloy were studied, and the precipitation kinetics was analyzed. Besides, the effect of adding Nb to the Cu–Cr–Zr alloy was simulated by the first-principles calculation. The results showed that when the aging temperature increased from 400 °C to 460 °C, Cube texture and Brass texture were transformed into Copper texture. The Cu–Cr–Zr–Nb alloy exhibited superior comprehensive properties such as a hardness of 84.3 HRB, a tensile strength of 520 MPa, an elongation of 19.0 %, and an electrical conductivity of 83.5 International Annealed Copper Standard (%IACS) after being aged at 460 °C for 4 h. The precipitation kinetics and electrical conductivity equations under different aging temperatures were established, and the precipitation activation energy of 24 kJ/mol was obtained. Moreover, the precipitation process of the alloy was also described by the Avrami empirical equation. It was found that the reaction mechanism of the alloy changed from nucleation and growth to one-dimensional diffusion as the aging temperature increased from 400 °C to 520 °C. It was also confirmed that Nb and Cr formed the Cr2Nb compound according to the first-principles calculation.

The influence of pre-aging treatment on the microstructure, texture and mechanical properties of the Mg–6Zn–1Gd–1Er (wt.%) alloy was investigated. The microstructure analysis shows that the presence of pre-aging is beneficial to {101¯2} twin nucleation at the early stage of extrusion and inhibits the growth of twins and promotes the formation of [101¯0]-fiber texture components, thus accelerating the complex process of recrystallization. In the middle stage of extrusion, the extruded samples under the condition of solid solution were subjected to dynamic precipitation during severe shear deformation. The precipitation of the second phase particles followed the particle stimulating nucleation (PSN) mechanism, which increased the volume fraction of DRX grains during extrusion. In the extruded samples under the peak-aged condition, the particles appear dissolved during the severe shear deformation strain, which slows down the DRX process. In the later stage of extrusion, the small rod-shaped particles followed the PSN mechanism, and finally formed the strong fiber texture. The extruded alloy exhibits the strongest mechanical properties under the peak-aged state, with ultimate tensile strength (UTS) of 346 MPa, tensile yield strength (TYS) of 217 MPa, and elongation to failure (EL) of 13.6%. The improvement of mechanical properties is mainly attributed to the existence of strong fiber texture, small rod-shaped and block-shaped phases.

A novel Ti-Ni-Hf-Cu-Nb shape memory alloy has been developed by a new combinatorial alloy synthesis method, the Suspended Droplet Alloying. The influence of alloying elements on the transformation temperature, the microstructure and the shape memory effect of this alloy have also been studied. It was found that Cu has a greater negative influence on the transformation temperature of Ti-Ni-Hf-CuX alloys (about −5 K/at.%) than on the Ti-Ni-CuX alloys (−0.67 K/at.%). In addition, the negative effect intensifies with increasing Hf content. The transformation temperature rapidly decreases with increasing Nb composition in the Ti-Ni-Cu-Nb and Ti-Ni-Hf-Cu-Nb alloys, with the solid solution of Nb in the matrix being 1 at.%. A Ti-Ni-Cu-Hf-Nb alloy with high thermal cycle stability has been developed, where the alloying elements affect the transformation behaviour via altering the slipping energy and forming different types of precipitations.

Under compressive testing at 400C and a strain rate range of 0.05-5 s-1, the hot deformation behavior and microstructure evolution of an as-cast (AC), as-extruded (with a bimodal grain structure (named as Ex-1) or a relatively uniform fine grain structure (Ex-2)) WE43 alloy have been investigated and compared. The results indicate that the AC sample exhibits the highest peak stress, while the Ex-2 sample has the lowest value. Within the AC material, fine grains were firstly formed along the pancake-like deformed grains (as a necklace structure). The necklace structure was also formed within the Ex-1 and Ex-2 materials at high strain rates of 0.5 and 5 s-1. However, a lamellar structure that the coarse elongated grains divided by parallel boundaries was formed within the Ex-1 material. A relatively more homogeneous fine grain structure is achieved after a true strain of 1.0 within the Ex-2 material at a low strain rate of 0.05 s-1. In addition, a discontinuous dynamic recrystallization mechanism by grain boundary bulging is found to occur. After a true strain of 1.2, a (0001) fiber texture, a typical rare earth (RE) texture, and a relatively random texture are formed within the AC, Ex-1, and Ex-2 WE43 alloy material, respectively.
