This article first introduces the working principle of a push-pull current type DC/DC converter, analyzes the transient working process of the converter within one working cycle of the control signal, and draws the relevant waveforms of the main parameters of the circuit; Secondly, equivalent circuits are established for each switch in the circuit to achieve soft switching. At the same time, due to the isolation of the DC/DC converter using parasitic parameters of the converter for resonance, the soft switching conditions of the switch are achieved. The main parameters of the resonance process are about the parasitic capacitance of the switch and the transmission inductance of the converter. Therefore, based on the soft switching implementation process of each switch, the influence relationship between the parameter design of parasitic capacitance and transmission inductance on the soft switching is derived; Finally, the software simulation and prototype experimental platform are built to verify that the derived soft switching conditions can serve as the theoretical basis for the parameter design of push-pull current type DC/DC converters.

This study explores the biotransformation of phenolic compounds in Rosa rugosa through Lactobacillus plantarum fermentation, enhancing their bioaccessibility and antioxidant capacity. We developed a sensitive and reproducible analytical method using ultra-high performance liquid chromatography coupled with triple quadrupole tandem mass spectrometry (UHPLC-QqQ-MS/MS), enabling the analysis of 17 phenolic compounds from Rosa (R) and fermented Rosa (FR). Additionally, we conducted a density functional theory (DFT) study to correlate the structure of key phenolic compounds from R and FR with their antioxidant activity. Our findings revealed that both R and FR mitigate oxidative stress in tert-butyl-hydrogen peroxide (TBHP)-induced Caco-2 and HT-29 cells by elevating the activities of crucial antioxidative enzymes, including superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px), and glutathione reductase (GR). Furthermore, fermented Rosa significantly upregulated Nrf2, γ-GCS, HO-1, and NOQ-1 mRNA expression in TBHP-induced cells with Quantitative and real-time PCR technology, emphasizing its protective function primarily through the Nrf2 signaling pathway. This study is the first to demonstrate the link between the enhanced antioxidant potential in fermented Rosa and the biotransformation of its phenolic compounds. It paves the way for augmenting the antioxidant capacity of plant foods through Lactobacillus plantarum fermentation, offering a novel approach to reinforce their health benefits.

Aroma compounds in the roasted breasts, thighs and skins of chicken were isolated by solvent-assisted flavor evaporation (SAFE), quantitated by gas chromatography–olfactometry-mass (GC-O-MS), analyzed by aroma extract dilution analysis (AEDA), and determined by recombination-omission tests and sensory evaluation. Forty-seven aroma compounds in total, including aldehydes, ketones, furans, pyrazines, and furanones, were selected by AEDA. Twenty-five compounds were selected as pivotal odorants (Odor Activity Value, OAV ≥ 1). Twenty aroma compounds significantly were identified by recombination and omission experiments. Anethole (fennel odor) was the highest OAV (＞ 1843). Hexanal (grassy) and (E, E)-2,4-decadienal (meaty) were the most abundant aldehydes identified in roasted chicken. 1-octen-3-ol (mushroom), methanethiol (cabbage) and dimethyl trisulfide (areca, sulfur) were considered the key compounds of the breast and thighs of roasted chicken. Notably, furanone and pyrazines, 4-hydroxy-5-methyl-3(2H)-furanone (caramel, sweet and burning odor), 3-ethyl-2,5-dimethylpyrazine (nutty, toasty) and 2,3-dimethyl-5-ethylpyrazine (nutty, toasty) had the most significant effect on roasted chicken odor, especially in the skin.

Probiotics are natural microbial agents with beneficial properties such as bacteriostatic and anti-infective properties. Lactobacillus plantarum Q21, Q25 and QA85, were isolated from the Chinese specialty fermented food “Jiangshui” and proved to be highly resistant to Helicobacter pylori (p < 0.0001). In vitro results showed that Q21, Q25 and QA85 strongly inhibited H. pylori and could specifically co-aggregate H. pylori in vitro (more than 56%). Strains have the potential to adhere to cells and hinder H. pylori colonization (p < 0.0001). To assess the anti-H. pylori efficacy of strains in vivo, volunteers were recruited and a self-controlled study of probiotic intervention was conducted. Compared to pre-probiotics, volunteers who took Q21, Q25 and QA85 for 1 month showed significant improvement in discomfort, a significant reduction in GSRS scores (p < 0.05), and modulation of inflammatory response (p < 0.05). Q21, Q25 and QA85 resulted in a decreasing trend of H. pylori load in volunteers (454.30 ± 327.00 vs. 328.35 ± 237.19, p = 0.06). However, the strains were not significantly effective in modulating the imbalance of the gut microbiota caused by H. pylori infection. In addition, strains affect metabolic pathways by increasing the levels of O-Phosphoethanolamine and other related metabolites, which may ameliorate associated symptoms. Therefore, Lactobacillus plantarum Q21, Q25 and QA85 can be regarded as a candidate probiotic preparation that exerts direct or indirect anti-H. pylori effects by inhibiting H. pylori activity and colonization, reducing inflammation and discomfort, maintaining homeostasis in the internal environment, affecting the metabolic pathways and repairing the body barrier. They can play a role in relieving H. pylori infection.

The limited nutritional information provided by external food representations has constrained the further development of food nutrition estimation. Near-infrared hyperspectral imaging (NIR-HSI) technology can capture food chemical characteristics directly related to nutrition and is widely used in food science. However, conventional data analysis methods may lack the capability of modeling complex nonlinear relations between spectral information and nutrition content. Therefore, we initiated this study to explore the feasibility of integrating deep learning with NIR-HSI for food nutrition estimation. Inspired by reinforcement learning, we proposed OptmWave, an approach that can perform modeling and wavelength selection simultaneously. It achieved the highest accuracy on our constructed scrambled eggs with tomatoes dataset, with a determination coefficient of 0.9913 and a root mean square error (RMSE) of 0.3548. The interpretability of our selection results was confirmed through spectral analysis, validating the feasibility of deep learning-based NIR-HSI in food nutrition estimation.

Fermentation represents an efficient biotechnological approach to increase the nutritional and functional potential of traditional Chinese medicine. In this study, Lactobacillus plantarum was used to ferment traditional Chinese medicine Astragalus, the differential metabolites in the fermented Astragalus (FA) were identified by ultra-performance liquid chromatography-Q Exactive hybrid quadrupole-Orbitrap mass spectrometry (UPLC-Q-Exactive-MS), and the ameliorating effect of FA on dextran sulfate sodium (DSS)-induced colitis in mice were further explored. The results showed that 11 differential metabolites such as raffinose, progesterone and uridine were identified in FA, which may help improve the ability of FA to alleviate colitis. Prophylactic FA supplementation effectively improved DAI score, colon length and histopathological lesion in DSS-treated mice. The abnormal activation of the intestinal immune barrier in mice was controlled after FA supplementation, the contents of myeloperoxidase (MPO) and IgE were reduced and the contents of IgA were increased. The intestinal pro-inflammatory factors TNF-α, IL-1β, IL-6, and IL-17 were down-regulated and the anti-inflammatory factors IL-10 and TGF-β were up-regulated, suggesting that FA can intervene in inflammatory status by regulating the balance of Th1/Th2/Th17/Treg related cytokines. In addition, FA supplementation modified the structure of the intestinal microbiota and enriched the abundance of Akkermansia and Alistipes, which were positively associated with the production of short-chain fatty acids. These microbes and their metabolites induced by FA also be involved in maintaining the intestinal mucosal barrier integrity by affecting mucosal immunity. We observed that intestinal tight junction protein and mucous secreting protein ZO-1, occludin, and MUC2 genes expression were more pronounced in mice supplemented with FA compared to unfermented Astragalus, along with modulation of intestinal epithelial cells (IECs) apoptosis, verifying the intestinal mucosal barrier repaired by FA. This study is the first to suggest that FA as a potential modulator can more effectively regulate the inflammatory status and gut microbiota to repair the intestinal barrier damage caused by colitis.

This study aimed to investigate the relationship among physicochemical quality, water status and protein degradation of pork samples during superheated steam (SHS) cooking. Pork samples were cooked with SHS (120, 150 and 180 ℃ and traditional steam (TS) to 40, 60 and 80 ℃. The results showed that SHS cooking at 150 and 180 ℃ significantly reduced the values of lightness (L*), yellowness (b*), cooking loss and increased the value of redness (a*). Moreover, SHS cooked samples had lower shear force, hardness and chewiness value than TS cooked samples, indicating a better mouth feel quality. Low-field nuclear magnetic resonance (LF-NMR) analysis results showed that relaxation time T21, T22 and T23 increased with SHS temperature, T2 (TS-cooked) < T2 (SHS-cooked), SHS had higher P22 values but lower P23 values than TS. The secondary structure of pork protein cooked by TS tends to be loose than SHS, promoting more immobilized water into free water. Furthermore, SHS led to a low exposure of hydrogen bonds and hydrophobic bonds which reduced protein aggregation. The protein degradation and water status could explain the quality differences between SHS and TS cooked pork.

Block pulse functions (BPFs) are piecewise constant and not sufficiently smooth. Therefore, their accuracy is limited when it comes to identifying the parameters of fractional order systems (FOSs). This in turn means that BPFs are incapable of offering highly accurate parameter identification results. However, using a great number of BPFs would significantly increase the dimension of the operational matrix and thereby adds to the computational complexity and burden. To overcome this problem, we present here a hybrid function method for identifying FOSs. The method utilizes a hybrid of Bernoulli polynomials and block pulse functions (HBPBPFs) as the base functions to approximate input and output signals. The fractional integral operational matrix of HBPBPFs is derived and used to convert an FOS to an algebraic system. The parameters of the FOS are successfully identified by minimizing the mean square error between the output of the true system and that of the algebraic representation of the FOS. The simulation experiment verifies that our proposed HBPBPFs method is effective and can generate more accurate identification results than existing BPFs methods.

ObjectiveContinuous overactivation of the renal sympathetic nerve is considered to be an important cause of renal fibrosis. Accumulated senescent cells in the damaged kidney have metabolic activities and secrete amounts of proinflammatory factors as part of the SASP (the senescence-associated secretory phenotype), which induce chronic inflammation and fibrosis. It is still unclear whether renal sympathetic nerves affect renal inflammation and fibrosis by regulating cellular senescence. Therefore, we hypothesize that sympathetic activation in the injured kidney induces cellular senescence, which contributes to progressive renal inflammation and fibrosis.MethodsRenal denervation was performed 2 days before the UUO (unilateral ureteral obstruction) and UIRI (unilateral ischemia-reperfusion injury) models. The effects of renal denervation on renal fibrosis and cellular senescence were observed. In vitro, cellular senescence was induced in renal proximal tubular epithelial cell lines (TKPTS cells) by treatment with norepinephrine (NE). The selective α2A-adrenergic receptor (α2A-AR) antagonists BRL44408 and β-arrestin2 siRNA, were administered to inhibit NE-induced cellular senescence. A significantly altered pathway was identified through immunoblotting, immunofluorescence, immunocytochemistry, and functional assays involved in mitochondrial function.ResultsRenal fibrosis and cellular senescence were significantly increased in UUO and UIRI models, which were partially reversed by renal denervation. In vitro, NE induced epithelial cells secreting proinflammatory cytokines and promoted cell senescence by activating α2A-AR. Importantly, the effects of NE during cellular senescence were blocked by α2A-AR selective antagonist and β-arrestin2 (downstream of α2A-AR) siRNA.ConclusionRenal sympathetic activation and cellular senescence are important neurometabolic and neuroimmune mechanisms in the development of renal fibrosis. Renal sympathetic neurotransmitter NE acting on the α2A-AR of epithelial cells promotes cellular senescence through the downstream β-arrestin2 signaling, which is a potential preventive target for renal fibrosis.

Abstract This research investigated the viscosity, thermal, thermomechanical, and microstructural properties of potato starch–wheat gluten composite systems with different starch/gluten ratios under mechanical shear and heating conditions. Results showed that the peak, trough, and final viscosities increased with the increase in potato starch fraction. The breakdown and setback values of samples decreased with increasing gluten content, and the endothermic enthalpy showed a similar variation trend. The gelatinization temperature of the samples increased significantly as the gluten proportion increased. Morphological observation showed that the gluten protein was wrapped around potato starch granules and the starch granules have a diluting effect on gluten network. Moreover, gluten formed a water diffusion barrier out of the starch granules, this barrier effect and the competitive hydration between starch and gluten could primarily explain the delayed gelatinization temperatures.

Abstract This study examined the relationship between the high‐fat, high‐sugar diet (HFHSD) and trinitrobenzene sulfonic acid (TNBS) induced mouse colitis, the therapeutic effect of alpha‐linolenic acid (ALA) on mouse colitis, and the relationship between HFHSD and hyperlipidemia. We also examined the possible underlying mechanisms behind their interactions. Female BABL/c mice were fed with HFHSD for the 9 weeks. At the same time, ALA treatment (150 or 300 mg/kg) was administered on a daily basis. At the end of the 9 weeks, experimental colitis was induced by the intra‐colonic administration of TNBS. Body weight, spleen weight, disease activity index (DAI), histological changes, T‐cell‐related cytokine level, and lipid profiles were measured after treatment. TNBS induced severe clinical manifestations of colitis and histological damage. Low‐ALA (150 mg/kg) administration profoundly ameliorated TNBS‐induced clinical manifestations, body weight loss, spleen weight loss, and histological damage. On the contrary, the high‐ALA (300 mg/kg) administration did not ameliorate colitis and even exacerbated the symptoms. HFHSD consumption assisted TNBS in changing IL‐12, IFN‐γ, IL‐2, and IL‐17A in the liver. As expected, these changes were recovered through low‐ALA. In addition, HFHSD had a significant impact on the total cholesterol (TC), high‐density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL‐C), and triglyceride (TG), which related to the increased risk of hyperlipidemia. In summation, HFHSD exacerbated the TNBS‐induced colitis via the Th1/Th17 pathway. The Low‐ALA (150 mg/kg) exhibited protective effects against the TNBS‐induced colitis via the Th1/Th2/Th17 pathway.

The mammalian gut microbial community, known as the gut microbiota, comprises trillions of bacteria, which co-evolved with the host and has an important role in a variety of host functions that include nutrient acquisition, metabolism, and immunity development, and more importantly, it plays a critical role in the protection of the host from enteric infections associated with exogenous pathogens or indigenous pathobiont outgrowth that may result from healthy gut microbial community disruption. Microbiota evolves complex mechanisms to restrain pathogen growth, which included nutrient competition, competitive metabolic interactions, niche exclusion, and induction of host immune response, which are collectively termed colonization resistance. On the other hand, pathogens have also developed counterstrategies to expand their population and enhance their virulence to cope with the gut microbiota colonization resistance and cause infection. This review summarizes the available literature on the complex relationship occurring between the intestinal microbiota and enteric pathogens, describing how the gut microbiota can mediate colonization resistance against bacterial enteric infections and how bacterial enteropathogens can overcome this resistance as well as how the understanding of this complex interaction can inform future therapies against infectious diseases.

Lactiplantibacillus plantarum LZU-J-TSL6 with high γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) production (3.838 g/L) was screened and isolated from the Chinese fermented food snack “Jiangshui”. The improvement effect on anxiety disorder was explored using mice as animal models. In vitro results revealed that LZU-J-TSL6 had the potential to colonize the intestine (p < 0.01) and the anxiety-like behavior of the mice after seven days’ gavage with LZU-J-TSL6 was significantly improved (p < 0.01) when compared to the model group. LZU-J-TSL6 was able to effectively increase the GABA content in the mice hippocampus (p < 0.0001) and restore some markers related to anxiety such as brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP), and 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT). Simultaneously, it had a certain repair effect on Nissl bodies and colon tissue in mice hippocampus. In addition, LZU-J-TSL6 increased the relative abundance of beneficial bacteria Bacteroides and Muribaculum, thereby regulating the imbalance of intestinal microbiota caused by anxiety disorder. It also affects the nerve pathway and intestinal mucosal barrier by increasing the content of glutamine and γ-aminobutyric acid and other related metabolites, thereby improving anxiety. Therefore, the GABA-producing Lactobacillus plantus LZU-J-TSL6 can be used as a probiotic to exert an indirect or direct anti-anxiety effect by maintaining the balance of the intestinal environment, producing related metabolites that affect nerve pathways and repair the intestinal mucosal barrier. It can be used as an adjuvant treatment to improve anxiety disorders.

Dynamic scheduling is one of the most important key technologies in production and flexible job shop is widespread. Therefore, this paper considers a dynamic flexible job shop scheduling problem considering setup time and random job arrival. To solve this problem, a dynamic scheduling framework based on the improved gene expression programming algorithm is proposed to construct scheduling rules. In this framework, the variable neighborhood search using four efficient neighborhood structures is combined with gene expression programming algorithm. And, an adaptive method adjusting recombination rate and transposition rate in the evolutionary progress is proposed. The test results on 24 groups of instances with different scales show that the improved gene expression programming performs better than the standard gene expression programming, genetic programming, and scheduling rules.

Flaxseed cake contains cyanogenic glucosides, which can be metabolized into hydrocyanic acid in an animal's body, leading to asphyxia poisoning in cells. Beta-glucosidase is highly efficient in degrading cyanogenic glucosides. The Cattle may have β-glucosidase-producing strains in the intestinal tract after eating small amounts of flaxseed cake for a long time. This study aimed to isolate of a strain from cow dung that produces β-glucosidase with high activity and can significantly reduce the amount of cyanogenic glucosides. We used cow dung as the microflora source and an esculin agar as the selective medium. After screening with 0.05% esculin and 0.01% ferric citrate, we isolated 5 strains producing high amounts of β-glucosidase. Particle swarm optimizer was proposed in 1995, and since then, it has become an extremely popular swarm intelligent algorithm with widespread applications. Many modified versions of it have been developed, in which, comprehensive learning particle swarm optimizer is a very powerful one. In order to enhance its performance further, a local search based on Latin hypercube sampling is combined with it in this work. Due to that a hypercube should become smaller and smaller for better local search ability during the search process, a control method is designed to set the size of the hypercube. Via numerical experiments, it can be observed that the comprehensive learning particle swarm optimizer with the local search based on Latin hypercube sampling has a strong ability on both global and local search. The hybrid algorithm is applied in cylindricity error evaluation problem and it outperforms several other algorithms.

Owing to its modular construction, ability for bi-directional power flow and suitability for AC/DC grids, solid-state transformer (SST) is expected to be the backbone of the future smart grids. One of the main drawbacks of SST is the generation of negative-sequence current component at its input stage under unbalanced distribution system which causes adverse impacts on the power quality of the electricity grids. This paper is aimed at proposing a novel unbalance compensation method based on reduced order generalized integrator to suppress the negative-sequence current. Unlike the conventional sequence compensation method that is based on dual synchronous reference frames, the new proposed method does not involve complex calculation of the command current and sequence decomposition. As such, the response speed of the compensation controller is significantly improved. Additionally, the proposed method is easy to implement when compared with the current conventional compensation technique as there is no need to inject sequence components into the grid. A simulation model of three-module cascaded SST with three-phase star connection is established in Matlab/Simulink. Several case studies are carried out under different operating conditions. Simulation results validate the feasibility of the proposed method.

In view of the frequent safety problems of electric vehicles, the research on accurately obtaining the rotor position of the motor through the resolver is an important means to improve the functional safety of the system. The commonly used resolver decoding method involves the resolver decoding chip method and software decoding method, but few studies integrate the two decoding methods. A single method of motor rotor position acquisition cannot meet the requirements of system functional safety. To fill this gap, this paper proposes a method to simultaneously integrate hardware decoding and software decoding in the motor control system. The decoding chip and software decoding obtain the angle data at the same time, and they provide redundancy to improve the functional safety of the electronic control system. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed simultaneous operation of hardware decoding and software decoding is verified by experiments.

Steelmaking-refining-Continuous Casting (SCC) is a key process in iron and steel production. SCC scheduling is to determine an optimal schedule for the SCC process, which is a worldwide and important problem. High-quality SCC scheduling methods will help to allocate production resources effectively and increase the productivity. However, dynamic events (e.g. machine breakdown) may happen in the realistic SCC process, which will make the SCC schedule inexecutable or not optimal. In this case, SCC rescheduling is essential in order to obtain a new optimal schedule suitable for the current production environments. The SCC rescheduling can be modeled as hybrid flowshop rescheduling. In this paper, an Improved Imperialist Competitive Algorithm (IICA) is proposed to address the SCC rescheduling. In the proposed IICA, an empire initialization is first devised for constructing an initial population with diversity and certain quality. Moreover, multiswap-based local search and imperialist competition are designed to improve the exploitation ability of the IICA, while revolution and restart strategy are devised to enhance the exploration ability of the IICA. Comparison experiments with three kinds of ICA have shown the efficiency of the IICA.

Abstract In three-phase four-wire systems, unbalanced loads can cause grid currents to be unbalanced, and this may cause the neutral point potential on the grid side to shift. The neutral point potential shift will worsen the control precision as well as the performance of the three-phase four-wire unified power quality conditioner (UPQC), and it also leads to unbalanced three-phase output voltage, even causing damage to electric equipment. To deal with unbalanced loads, this paper proposes a matching-ratio compensation algorithm (MCA) for the fundamental active component of load currents, and by employing this MCA, balanced three-phase grid currents can be realized under 100% unbalanced loads. The steady-state fluctuation and the transient drop of the DC bus voltage can also be restrained. This paper establishes the mathematical model of the UPQC, analyzes the mechanism of the DC bus voltage fluctuations, and elaborates the interaction between unbalanced grid currents and DC bus voltage fluctuations; two control strategies of UPQC under three-phase stationary coordinate based on the MCA are given, and finally, the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed control strategy are verified by experiment results.

Different from the extant power flow analysis methods, this paper discusses the power flows for the unified power quality conditioner (UPQC) in three-phase four-wire systems from the point of view of impedance matching. To this end, combined with the designed control strategies, the establishing method of the UPQC impedance model is presented, and on this basis, the UPQC system can be equivalent to an adjustable impedance model. After that, a concept of impedance matching is introduced into this impedance model to study the operation principle for the UPQC system, i.e., how the system changes its operation states and power flow under the grid voltage variations through discussing the matching relationships among node impedances. In this way, the nodes of the series and parallel converter are matched into two sets of impedances in opposite directions, which mean that one converter operates in rectifier state to draw the energy and the other one operates in inverter state to transmit the energy. Consequently, no matter what grid voltages change, the system node impedances are dynamically matched to ensure that output equivalent impedances are always equal to load impedances, so as to realize impedance and power balances of the UPQC system. Finally, the correctness of the impedance matching-based power flow analysis is validated by the experimental results.

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a chronic complex inflammatory gut pathological condition, examples of which include Crohn’s disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC), which is associated with significant morbidity. Although the etiology of IBD is unknown, gut microbiota alteration (dysbiosis) is considered a novel factor involved in the pathogenesis of IBD. The gut microbiota acts as a metabolic organ and contributes to human health by performing various physiological functions; deviation in the gut flora composition is involved in various disease pathologies, including IBD. This review aims to summarize the current knowledge of gut microbiota alteration in IBD and how this contributes to intestinal inflammation, as well as explore the potential role of gut microbiota-based treatment approaches for the prevention and treatment of IBD. The current literature has clearly demonstrated a perturbation of the gut microbiota in IBD patients and mice colitis models, but a clear causal link of cause and effect has not yet been presented. In addition, gut microbiota-based therapeutic approaches have also shown good evidence of their effects in the amelioration of colitis in animal models (mice) and IBD patients, which indicates that gut flora might be a new promising therapeutic target for the treatment of IBD. However, insufficient data and confusing results from previous studies have led to a failure to define a core microbiome associated with IBD and the hidden mechanism of pathogenesis, which suggests that well-designed randomized control trials and mouse models are required for further research. In addition, a better understanding of this ecosystem will also determine the role of prebiotics and probiotics as therapeutic agents in the management of IBD.

T-helper (Th) cells play a critical role in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), especially the two new types: Th17 and Th22. But whether they are protective or pathogenic in the gut is still controversial. Unlike them, regulatory T (Treg) cells have undoubtedly suppressive function and can maintain immune homeostasis. Our current aims were to examine the change of Treg/Th17 balance, Th22 proportion, and the expression of Th17-related and/or Th22-related cytokines in inflammatory bowel disease. In this study, 3% dextran sulphate sodium (DSS) was administered orally to C57BL/6 mice to induce colitis. The morbidity was evaluated by daily body weight, colon length, disease activity index, and histology score of colonic lesions. Th17, Th22, and Treg cells were measured using flow cytometry. IL-17A, IL-17F, and IL-22 were quantified using enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) kits. DSS administration induced severe clinical manifestations, such as body weight loss, colon shortening, relatively high disease activity index, and histological damage in colitis mice. Both CD4 + IL-17A + IL-22 − cells and CD4 + IL-22 + IL-17A − cells were significantly increased, which associated with the increasing expression of IL-17A, IL-17F, and IL-22. On the contrary, CD4 + CD25 + Foxp3 + cells reduced. In brief, our findings clearly show that: the drift balance of Th17/Treg is apparently in DSS-induced colitis. The increasing concentration of IL-17A, IL-17F, and IL-22, as well as the increasing Th17 and Th22 cells count, suggesting Th17 and Th22 are involved in the pathological process. Further studies are warranted to develop drugs, which are effective for colitis by targeting the Th17/Treg and Th22 pathways.
