Smart design of household appliances can level up the energy efficiency and promote environmental responsibility. It is important to analyze the power losses in each component to assist product design, however, only the total power can be measured at the output of induction cooking system. Through electromagnetic simulation, the component power losses and energy distribution inside the system can be evaluated. In this work, a multidisciplinary methodology has been developed to perform thermal analysis of water boiling on the induction cooking system. For experimental part, the temperature of coil, pot, and water are monitored. For numerical part, CEM is applied to calculate the power distribution caused by the eddy current while CFD solves the flow field and heat transfer of boiling water inside a pot with induction cooker. The CEM based power distribution then is used as energy source in CFD model. The heat transfer efficiency of this induction cooking system is 88.2%The numerical simulation results demonstrate good agreement with experiments. Comparing with experiments, the maximum errors of the bottom pot temperature and coil temperature are 6.3%and 7.9% respectively. This multiphysics framework offers a better understanding of induction cooking related dynamics which greatly benefits the practical industry applications.

This study contributes to the literature by evaluating the sustainable development transition using qualitative information approach in the electric utility industry and recommending practical implications for decision makers. The sustainable development transition has gained more concerns to address the social, environment, economy and technological perspectives. Still, prior studies neglect to determine the sustainable development attributes in a hierarchical model and lack of qualitative information derived from linguistic preference of experts’ judgement. To fulfill this gap, the study aims to build the hierarchical model of sustainable development transition. A combined method, including fuzzy Delphi method, fuzzy interpretive structural modeling, and best worst method, is applied. From the initial proposed attribute set, thirty-seven criteria from four perspectives are validated. The results revealed that the technology transfer, innovation and production capabilities are the top aspects of the hierarchy, while learning process and social entrepreneurship practices are at the least ranking. Resource use and waste, innovation and technology adoption, and research and development are found to be the important criteria to support decision makers in the electric utility Industry in Indonesia to expedite the transition decision making for the transition acceleration.

In domestic induction heating applications, cookware can be considered an equivalent load in a series resistor–inductor–capacitor resonant converter. Therefore, the electrical parameters of an equivalent circuit change according to the cookware material, size and the cookware position on the heating coil. This study proposes an online estimation method for detecting the cookware status, determining the material and estimating the equivalent heating resistance of cookware on an induction heating cooker (IHC) for power control. The proposed method could turn off the circuit in abnormal situations such as low equivalent heating coverage rate or non-ferromagnetic cookware and adjust the power in normal situations. In the method, a half-bridge series resonant converter (HBSRC) generates two test patterns with three resonant voltage pulses to detect cookware every 10 ms, only the current feedback information is needed to avoid the calculation loads and times necessary for complex signal operations in software. To verify the proposed method, a digital signal processor based HBSRC with 1000 W was constructed. The maximum errors between the estimated and measured resistance and inductance were 7.14% and 2.91%, respectively. Moreover, power control in emulated user operation reveal that the proposed method and control system can effectively estimate load online to detect cookware status and determine whether to turn off or vary the heating power for an IHC.

This paper incorperates Bingham and bi-viscosity rheology models with the Navier–Stokes solver to simulate the dynamics and kinematics processes of slumps for tsunami generation. The rheology models are integrated into a computational fluid dynamics code, Splash3D, to solve the incompressible Navier–Stokes equations with volume of fluid surface tracking algorithm. The change between un-yield and yield phases of the slide material is controlled by the yield stress and yield strain rate in Bingham and bi-viscosity models, respectively. The integrated model is carefully validated by the theoretical results and laboratory data with good agreements. This validated model is then used to simulate the benchmark problem of the failure of the gypsum tailings dam in East Texas in 1966. The accuracy of predicted flood distances simulated by both models is about 73% of the observation data. To improve the prediction, a fixed large viscosity is introduced to describe the un-yield behavior of tailings material. The yield strain rate is obtained by comparing the simulated inundation boundary to the field data. This modified bi-viscosity model improves not only the accuracy of the spreading distance to about 97% but also the accuracy of the spreading width. The un-yield region in the modified bi-viscosity model is sturdier than that described in the Bingham model. However, once the tailing material yields, the material returns to the Bingham property. This model can be used to simulate landslide tsunamis.

A novel three-phase power-factor-correction (PFC) rectifier with zero-voltage-switching (ZVS) in six main switches and zero-current-switching (ZCS) in the auxiliary switch is proposed, analyzed, and experimentally verified. The main feature of the proposed auxiliary circuit is used to reduce the switching loss when the six main switches are turned on and the one auxiliary switch is turned off. In this paper, a detailed operating analysis of the proposed circuit is given. Modeling and analysis are verified by experimental results based on a three-phase 7 kW rectifier. The soft-switched PFC rectifier shows an improvement in efficiency of 2.25% compared to its hard-switched counterpart at 220 V under full load.

During business collaboration, partners may benefit through sharing data. People may use data mining tools to discover useful relationships from shared data. However, some relationships are sensitive to the data owners and they hope to conceal them before sharing. In this paper, we address this problem in forms of association rule hiding. A hiding method based on evolutionary multi-objective optimization (EMO) is proposed, which performs the hiding task by selectively inserting items into the database to decrease the confidence of sensitive rules below specified thresholds. The side effects generated during the hiding process are taken as optimization goals to be minimized. HypE, a recently proposed EMO algorithm, is utilized to identify promising transactions for modification to minimize side effects. Results on real datasets demonstrate that the proposed method can effectively perform sanitization with fewer damages to the non-sensitive knowledge in most cases.

Data mining is traditionally adopted to retrieve and analyze knowledge from large amounts of data. Private or confidential data may be sanitized or suppressed before it is shared or published in public. Privacy preserving data mining (PPDM) has thus become an important issue in recent years. The most general way of PPDM is to sanitize the database to hide the sensitive information. In this paper, a novel hiding-missing-artificial utility (HMAU) algorithm is proposed to hide sensitive itemsets through transaction deletion. The transaction with the maximal ratio of sensitive to nonsensitive one is thus selected to be entirely deleted. Three side effects of hiding failures, missing itemsets, and artificial itemsets are considered to evaluate whether the transactions are required to be deleted for hiding sensitive itemsets. Three weights are also assigned as the importance to three factors, which can be set according to the requirement of users. Experiments are then conducted to show the performance of the proposed algorithm in execution time, number of deleted transactions, and number of side effects.

A GA-based privacy preserving utility mining method is proposed to find appropriate transactions to be inserted into the database for hiding sensitive high utility itemsets. It maintains the low information loss while providing information to the data demanders and protects the high-risk information in the database. A flexible evaluation function with three factors is designed in the proposed approach to evaluate whether the processed transactions are required to be inserted. Three different weights are, respectively, assigned to the three factors according to users. Moreover, the downward closure property and the prelarge concept are adopted in the proposed approach to reduce the cost of rescanning database, thus speeding up the evaluation process of chromosomes.

Data mining is used to mine meaningful and useful information or knowledge from a very large database. Some secure or private information can be discovered by data mining techniques, thus resulting in an inherent risk of threats to privacy. Privacy-preserving data mining (PPDM) has thus arisen in recent years to sanitize the original database for hiding sensitive information, which can be concerned as an NP-hard problem in sanitization process. In this paper, a compact prelarge GA-based (cpGA2DT) algorithm to delete transactions for hiding sensitive itemsets is thus proposed. It solves the limitations of the evolutionary process by adopting both the compact GA-based (cGA) mechanism and the prelarge concept. A flexible fitness function with three adjustable weights is thus designed to find the appropriate transactions to be deleted in order to hide sensitive itemsets with minimal side effects of hiding failure, missing cost, and artificial cost. Experiments are conducted to show the performance of the proposed cpGA2DT algorithm compared to the simple GA-based (sGA2DT) algorithm and the greedy approach in terms of execution time and three side effects.

During gastrulation, cohesive migration drives associated cell layers to the completion of epiboly in zebrafish. The association of different layers relies on E-cadherin based cellular junctions, whose stability can be affected by actin turnover. Here, we examined the effect of malfunctioning actin turnover on the epibolic movement by knocking down an actin depolymerizing factor, cofilin 1, using antisense morpholino oligos (MO). Knockdown of cfl1 interfered with epibolic movement of deep cell layer (DEL) but not in the enveloping layer (EVL) and the defect could be specifically rescued by overexpression of cfl1. It appeared that the uncoordinated movements of DEL and EVL were regulated by the differential expression of cfl1 in the DEL, but not EVL as shown by in situ hybridization. The dissociation of DEL and EVL was further evident by the loss of adhesion between layers by using transmission electronic and confocal microscopy analyses. cfl1 morphants also exhibited abnormal convergent extension, cellular migration and actin filaments, but not involution of hypoblast. The cfl1 MO-induced cell migration defect was found to be cell-autonomous in cell transplantation assays. These results suggest that proper actin turnover mediated by Cfl1 is essential for adhesion between DEL and EVL and cell movements during gastrulation in zebrafish.
