In recent years, underinvestment has become common among subsidised enterprises in China. Stakeholder theory asserts that environmental, social and governance (ESG) performance forces enterprises to prioritise stakeholder needs by incorporating ESG principles into business operations, which in turn influences business investment decision-making. This study examines the impact of government subsidies on firm underinvestment and whether ESG performance plays a moderating role in this direct relationship. A dataset of 17,780 firm-year observations of A-share public firms in China for the period 2011–2021 was employed, and the data were analysed using the ordinary least squares regression model, fixed-effects regression model, propensity score matching difference-in-difference model, and instrumental variable approach. These results indicate that government subsidies mitigate firm underinvestment and tend to reduce underinvestment in firms with higher ESG performance. Moreover, the findings indicate that the performance in ESG factors influences the effect of government subsidies on the lack of investment in state-owned enterprises (SOEs), as opposed to non-SOEs. This effect is more noticeable in heavily polluting industries compared to non-heavily polluting industries. These findings imply that the government should promote the ESG performance of subsidised firms to enhance their overall corporate investment efficiency.

Summary: Itaconate serves as an immune-specific metabolite that regulates gene transcription and metabolism in both host and pathogens. S-itaconation is a post-translational modification that regulates immune response; however, its antimicrobial mechanism under the physiological condition remains unclear. Here, we apply a bioorthogonal itaconate probe to perform global profiling of S-itaconation in living pathogens, including S. Typhimurium, S. aureus, and P. aeruginosa. Some functional enzymes are covalently modified by itaconate, including those involved in the de novo purine biosynthesis pathway. Further biochemical studies demonstrate that itaconate suppresses this specific pathway to limit Salmonella growth by inhibiting the initiator purF to lower de novo purine biosynthesis and simultaneously targeting the guaABC cluster to block the salvage route. Our chemoproteomic study provides a global portrait of S-itaconation in multiple pathogens and offers a valuable resource for finding susceptible targets to combat drug-resistant pathogens in the future.

Lilium brownii var. viridulum, known as Longya lily, is a well-known medicinal and edible plant in China. Bulb rot is a common disease in Longya lily cultivation that severely affects the yield and quality of lilies. According field investigations, we found that different Longya lily plants in the same field had different degrees of resistance to root rot. To find the reasons leading to the difference, we performed metabolomic and transcriptomic analyses of Longya lily with different degrees of disease. The transcriptomic analyses showed that the number of differentially expressed genes increased in early and mid-stage infections (LYBH2 and LYBH3), while decreased in late-stage infection (LYBH4). A total of 2309 DEGs showed the same expression trend in diseased bulb compared healthy bulb (LYBH1). The transcription factors (TFs) analysis of DEGs showed that several common TFs, like WRKY, bHLH, AP2/ERF-ERF and MYB, were significantly activated in bulbs after decay. The metabolomic analyses showed that there were 794 differentially accumulated metabolites, and metabolites with significant changes in relative content largely were phenolic acids, followed by flavonoids and amino acids and derivatives. The combined analysis of transcriptome and metabolome indicated that phenylpropanoid biosynthesis pathway was crucial in Longya lily resistance to bulb rot. Therefore, we speculated that the different degree of resistance to bulb rot in Longya lily may be related to the transcript levels of gene and contents of metabolites in the phenylpropanoid biosynthesis pathway. Overall, these results elucidate the molecular responses of Longya lily to bulb rot and lay a theoretical foundation for breeding resistant varieties.

Bearings are critical components of industrial equipment and have a significant impact on the safety of industrial physical systems. Their failure may lead to equipment shutdown and accidents, posing a significant risk to production safety. However, it is difficult to obtain a large amount of bearing fault data in practice, which makes the problem of small sample size a major challenge for bearing fault detection. In addition, some methods may overlook important features in bearing vibration signals, leading to insufficient detection capabilities. To address the challenges in bearing fault detection, this paper proposed a few sample learning methods based on the multidimensional convolution and attention mechanism. First, a multichannel preprocessing method was designed to more effectively utilize the information in the bearing vibration signal. Second, by extracting multidimensional features and enhancing the attention to important features through multidimensional convolution operations and attention mechanisms, the feature extraction ability of the network was improved. Furthermore, nonlinear mapping of feature vectors into the metric space to calculate distance can better measure the similarity between samples, thereby improving the accuracy of bearing fault detection and providing important guarantees for the safe operation of industrial systems. Extensive experiments have shown that the proposed method has good fault detection performance under small sample conditions, which is beneficial for reducing machine downtime and economic losses.

Apricot has a long history of cultivation and has many varieties and types. The traditional variety identification methods are time-consuming and labor-consuming, posing grand challenges to apricot resource management. Tool development in this regard will help researchers quickly identify variety information. This study photographed apricot fruits outdoors and indoors and constructed a dataset that can precisely classify the fruits using a U-net model (F-score: 99%), which helps to obtain the fruit's size, shape, and color features. Meanwhile, a variety search engine was constructed, which can search and identify variety from the database according to the above features. Besides, a mobile and web application (ApricotView) was developed, and the construction mode can be also applied to other varieties of fruit trees. Additionally, we have collected four difficult-to-identify seed datasets and used the VGG16 model for training, with an accuracy of 97%, which provided an important basis for ApricotView. To address the difficulties in data collection bottlenecking apricot phenomics research, we developed the first apricot database platform of its kind (ApricotDIAP, http://apricotdiap.com/) to accumulate, manage, and publicize scientific data of apricot.

Abstract In this study, we aimed to address the primary challenges encountered in industrial integrated circuit (IC) surface defect detection, particularly focusing on the imbalance in information density arising from difficulties in data sample collection. To this end, we have developed a new hybrid architecture model for IC surface defect detection (SDDM), based on ResNet and Vision Transformer (ViT). The core innovation of SDDM lies in the integration of the concepts of image information density and dataset information density, effectively identifying and processing areas of high information density through multi-channel image segmentation techniques. The convolution operations performed within each patch of the model help to precisely capture positional information, thereby meticulously differentiating the complex details on the surface defect detection of ICs. We optimized the model to make it more suitable for industrial applications, significantly reducing computational and operational costs. The experimental results confirmed that the improved SDDM model achieved an accuracy rate of 98.6% on datasets with uneven information density, effectively enhancing the productivity of IC packaging and testing companies, particularly in handling datasets with imbalanced information density.

The sustainable and efficient treatment of massive granite waste powder (GWP) has received increasing attention. This study proposes a novel method for recycling GWP cemented by inorganic binder-stabilized materials (IBSM) for sustainable pavement subgrade filler, i.e., IBSM-stabilized GWP (ISG). IBSM consists of Portland cement (PC), quicklime (QL), ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBS), and sodium dodecyl benzene sulfonate (SDBS). Response surface methodology (RSM) and microstructure analysis were employed to analyze the effects of IBSM components on ISG mechanical properties and durability. The 56d compressive strength of ISG is above 2.62 MPa, meeting the minimum criterion of 1 MPa. The residual strength coefficient after 5 freezing-drawing cycles is generally greater than 65 %, except for the groups with high QL content. Both PC and GGBS are positively correlated with the performance of ISG. Moreover, multi-objective optimization identifies the optimal mix ratio: 3.03 % PC, 0.83 % QL, 3.47 % GGBS, and 0.18 % SDBS. The optimal ISG presents excellent strength and durability performance, with S7d of 1.61 MPa, S56d of 3.88 MPa, Sw of 3.35 MPa, Rftc of 90 %, Rwdc of 92.01 %. These findings provide insight into the stabilization strategies of GWP using in highway subgrade filler, which can alleviate the environmental pollution induced by GWP waste.

Abstract Human enterovirus A71 (EV‐A71) is a significant etiological agent responsible for epidemics of hand, foot, and mouth disease (HFMD) in Asia‐Pacific regions. There are presently no licensed antivirals against EV‐A71, and the druggable target for EV‐A71 remains very limited. The phenotypic hit 10,10′‐bis(trifluoromethyl) marinopyrrole A derivative, herein termed MPA‐CF3, is a novel potent small‐molecule inhibitor against EV‐A71, but its pharmacological target(s) and antiviral mechanisms are not defined. Here, quantitative chemoproteomics deciphered the antiviral target of MAP‐CF3 as host factor coatomer subunit zeta‐1 (COPZ1). Mechanistically, MPA‐CF3 disrupts the interaction of COPZ1 with the EV‐A71 nonstructural protein 2C by destabilizing COPZ1 upon binding. The destruction of this interaction blocks the coatomer‐mediated transport of 2C to endoplasmic reticulum, and ultimately inhibits EV‐A71 replication. Taken together, our study disclosed that MPA‐CF3 can be a structurally novel host‐targeting anti‐EV‐A71 agent, providing a structural basis for developing the COPZ1‐targeting broad‐spectrum antivirals against enteroviruses. The mechanistic elucidation of MPA‐CF3 against EV‐A71 may offer an alternative COPZ1‐involved therapeutic pathway for enterovirus infection.

Abstract Metabolic oligosaccharide engineering (MOE) is a classical chemical approach to perturb, profile and perceive glycans in physiological systems, but probes upon bioorthogonal reaction require accessibility and the background signal readout makes it challenging to achieve glycan quantification. Here we develop SeMOE, a selenium-based metabolic oligosaccharide engineering strategy that concisely combines elemental analysis and MOE,enabling the mass spectrometric imaging of glycome. We also demonstrate that the new-to-nature SeMOE probes allow for detection, quantitative measurement and visualization of glycans in diverse biological contexts. We also show that chemical reporters on conventional MOE can be integrated into a bifunctional SeMOE probe to provide multimodality signal readouts. SeMOE thus provides a convenient and simplified method to explore the glyco-world.

Stomatal conductance (gs) is an indicator that allows for direct evaluation of plant water status, but it is challenging to achieve rapid monitoring in large-scale fields due to limitations in observation methods. Here this study was conducted to identify the thresholds of gs with different target yields and develop a gs-based water stress diagnostic model for buffalograss (Buchloe dactyloides (Nutt.) Engelm.) using UAV thermal infrared imagery for buffalograss in 2022 and 2023. The results of the field experiment demonstrated that the gs rapidly response to changes in the water stress status of buffalograss. The thresholds of gs were 403 and 385 mmol m−2 s−1 for the vegetative and reproductive growth stages, respectively, with the target seed yield of 1224 kg ha−1. The gs values were classified into three levels for the vegetative growth and four levels for the in reproductive growth stage of buffalograss, respectively. The canopy temperature depression response to water stress is consistent with the gs. Based on this relationship, this study developed a gs-based diagnostic model with a random forest algorithm for buffalograss. Furthermore, a spital map of gs was created using UAV thermal infrared imagery. The modification test results indicated that the model made a good estimation of gs were good with normalized root mean square errors of 15% in the vegetative stage and 11% in the reproductive stage, respectively. Therefore, it is feasible to use thermal infrared imagery for monitoring gs and evaluating the water stress of plants in buffalograss fields.

Abstract Background In addition to specifically inducing tumor cell apoptosis, recombinant tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-related apoptosis-inducing ligand (TRAIL) has also been reported to influence the cancer immune microenvironment; however, its underlying effects and mechanisms remain unclear. Investigating the immunomodulatory effects and mechanisms of recombinant TRAIL in the tumor microenvironment (TME) may provide an important perspective and facilitate the exploration of novel TRAIL strategies for tumor therapy. Methods Immunocompetent mice with different tumors were treated with three doses of recombinant TRAIL, and then the tumors were collected for immunological detection and mechanistic investigation. Methodological approaches include flow cytometry analysis and single-cell sequencing. Results In an immunocompetent mouse model, recombinant soluble mouse TRAIL (smTRAIL) had dose-related immunomodulatory effects. The optimal dose of smTRAIL (2 mg/kg) activated innate immune cells and CD8+ T cells, whereas higher doses of smTRAIL (8 mg/kg) promoted the formation of a tumor-promoting immune microenvironment to counteract the apoptotic effects on tumor cells. The higher doses of smTRAIL treatment promoted M2-like macrophage recruitment and polarization and increased the production of protumor inflammatory cytokines, such as IL-10, which deepened the suppression of natural killer (NK) cells and CD8+ T cells in the tumor microenvironment. By constructing an HU-HSC-NPG.GM3 humanized immune system mouse model, we further verified the immunomodulatory effects induced by recombinant soluble human TRAIL (shTRAIL) and found that combinational administration of shTRAIL and trabectedin, a macrophage-targeting drug, could remodel the tumor immune microenvironment, further enhance antitumor immunity, and strikingly improve antitumor effects. Conclusion Our results highlight the immunomodulatory role of recombinant TRAIL and suggest promising therapeutic strategies for clinical application. Graphical Abstract

Drynaria roosii Nakaike, a fern widely distributed in China and some countries in Southeast Asia, is a commonly used herbal medicine in tonic diets and Chinese patented medicine. The metabolites of its dried rhizomes are easily affected by the epiphytic pattern, whether on rock tunnels (RTs) or tree trunks (TTs). The current research focused on rhizomes from these two patterns, RTs and TTs (further divided into subclasses TA, TB, TC, and TD, based on trunk differences) and conducted a widely targeted metabolomics analysis. A total of 1435 components were identified across 13 categories, with flavonoids, amino acids, and their derivative, lipids, identified as the main components. They accounted for 19.96%, 12.07%, and 12.14% of all metabolites, respectively. The top five flavonoids in TB were eriodicty-ol-7-O-(6″-acetyl)glucoside, quercetin-3-O-sophoroside (baimaside), dihydrochar-cone-4′-O-glucoside, morin, and hesperetin-7-O-glucoside, with relative contents 76.10, 24.20, 17.02, 15.84, and 14.64 times higher than in RTs. Principal component analysis revealed that samples with different epiphytic patterns clustered into five groups. The RT patterns revealed unique metabolites that were not detected in the other four epiphytic species (TA, TB, TC, and TD), including 16 authenticated metabolites: 1 alkaloid, 1 amino acid derivative, 7 flavonoids, 2 lignans, 1 lipid, 1 alcohol, 1 aldehyde, and 2 phenolic acids. These differences in epiphytic patterns considerably affected the accumulation of both primary and secondary metabolites. The comparison of diversity between RTs and TTs can guide the selection of a cultivation substance and the grading of collective rhizomes in the wild. This comprehensive analysis of D. roosii rhizome metabolites also offers fundamental insights for identifying active components and understanding the mechanisms underlying their potential pharmacological activities.

Viral infection generally induces polyclonal neutralizing antibody responses. However, how many lineages of antibody responses can fully represent the neutralization activities in sera has not been well studied. Using the newly designed stable HIV-1 Env trimer as hook, we isolated two distinct broadly neutralizing antibodies (bnAbs) from Chinese rhesus macaques infected with SHIV1157ipd3N4 for 5 years. One lineage of neutralizing antibodies (JT15 and JT16) targeted the V2-apex in the Env trimers, similar to the J038 lineage bnAbs identified in our previous study. The other lineage neutralizing antibody (JT18) targeted the V3 crown region in the Env, which strongly competed with human 447-52D. Each lineage antibody neutralized a different set of viruses. Interestingly, when the two neutralizing antibodies from different lineages isolated from the same macaque were combined, the mixture had a neutralization breath very similar to that from the cognate sera. Our study demonstrated that a minimum of two different neutralizing antibodies can fully recapitulate the serum neutralization breadth. This observation can have important implications in AIDS vaccine design.

The sclerotium of the edible mushroom Polyporus umbellatus (Zhuling) exhibits various medicinal properties. However, given its long growth cycle and overexploitation, wild resources are facing depletion. Macrofungal growth depends on diverse microbial communities; however, the impact of soil bacteria on P. umbellatus development is unknown. Here, we combined high-throughput sequencing and pure culturing to characterize the diversity and potential function of bacteria and fungi inhabiting the P. umbellatus sclerotium and tested the bioactivities of their isolates. Fungal operational taxonomic units (OTUs) were clustered and classified, revealing 1275 genera. Bacterial OTUs yielded 891 genera. Additionally, 81 bacterial and 15 fungal strains were isolated from P. umbellatus sclerotia. Antagonism assays revealed three bacterial strains (FN2, FL19, and CL15) promoting mycelial growth by producing indole-3-acetic acid, solubilizing phosphate, and producing siderophores, suggesting their role in regulating growth, development, and production of active compounds in P. umbellatus. FN2-CL15 combined with bacterial liquid promoted growth and increased the polysaccharide content of P. umbellatus mycelia. This study reports new bioactive microbial resources for fertilizers or pesticides to enhance the growth and polysaccharide accumulation of P. umbellatus mycelia and offers guidance for exploring the correlation between medicinal macrofungi and associated microbial communities.

This study aims to analyze the impact of ownership structure on corporate capital structure, moderated by product market maturity. It employs a sample of 19950 firm-year observations for 1995 firms, which are listed companies on the A-Shares Board in Shanghai and Shenzhen stock exchange markets for the year 2011 to 2020. The data were analyzed using fixed effect regression. A two-step system GMM was used for the robustness test. Results suggested that state and institutional ownership negatively affect the firm’s leverage, which supports the resource-based theory. Furthermore, this study revealed that the negative effect of state ownership and institutional ownership on leverage diminished when firms are located in provinces with more matured product markets. These findings have important implications for the Chinese government in terms of developing and enforcing capital structure regulations to promote de-leverage.

Ferroptosis is a regulatory cell death characterized by intracellular iron accumulation and lipid peroxidation that leads to oxidative stress. Many signaling pathways such as iron metabolism, lipid metabolism, and amino acid metabolism precisely regulate the process of ferroptosis. Ferroptosis is involved in a variety of lung diseases, such as acute lung injury, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and pulmonary fibrosis. Increasing studies suggest that ferroptosis is involved in the development of asthma. Ferroptosis plays an important role in asthma. Iron metabolism disorders, lipid peroxidation, amino acid metabolism disorders lead to the occurrence of ferroptosis in airway epithelial cells, and then aggravate clinical symptoms in asthmatic patients. Moreover, several regulators of ferroptosis are involved in the pathogenesis of asthma, such as Nrf2, heme oxygenase-1, mevalonate pathway, and ferroptosis inhibitor protein 1. Importantly, ferroptosis inhibitors improve asthma. Thus, the pathogenesis of ferroptosis and its contribution to the pathogenesis of asthma help us better understand the occurrence and development of asthma, and provide new directions in asthma treatment. This article aimed to review the role and mechanism of ferroptosis in asthma, describing the relationship between ferroptosis and asthma based on signaling pathways and related regulatory factors. At the same time, we summarized current observations of ferroptosis in eosinophils, airway epithelial cells, and airway smooth muscle cells in asthmatic patients.

IntroductionThe emergence of multidrug-resistant (MDR) strains of Salmonella, which is a genus of important zoonotic pathogens, has aroused great public health concern worldwide.MethodsIn this study, 167 strains of Salmonella were isolated from 947 samples from broiler farms, slaughterhouses, and markets in Shandong Province. Antibiotic sensitivity testing was performed, and 70 strains of Salmonella were screened out by whole-genome sequencing (WGS) to evaluate serotypes, antimicrobial resistance genes (ARGs), the prevalence of class 1 integrons, the plasmid carriage rate, and phylogenetic characteristics and for multilocus sequence typing (MLST).ResultsThe results showed that the 167 isolates showed the highest resistance to ampicillin (AMP, 87.4%), sulfamethoxazole (SF, 87.4%), compound sulfamethoxazole (SXT, 81.4%), nalidixic acid (NAL, 80.2%), and amoxicillin/clavulanic acid (A/C, 77.8%). All the strains were sensitive to meropenem (MEM), and 91.0% of the isolates were MDR strains. We screened a total of 45 ARGs, with the highest detection rate observed for the tetracycline (TET) resistance gene tet (A) (81.4%). A total of 21 types of plasmid replicons were detected in Salmonella, of which IncX1 was the most common (74.3%), and 62.9% of the isolates carried a class 1 integron. In addition, a total of 11 different serotypes were detected, with S. enteritidis as the predominant serovar., followed by S. infantis and S. Newport. Twelve different sequence types (STs) were detected, among which ST11 was the main type. There was a strong correspondence between serotypes and STs. We also found that S. Indiana and S. Kentucky had extremely high rates of resistance to ciprofloxacin (CIP) and third-generation cephalosporins. System-wide genome analysis showed the occurrence of long-distance transmission across fields.ConclusionIn conclusion, the detection of multidrug resistance and isolates carrying multidrug resistance genes is the main problem, and emergency strategies should be implemented to address this issue.

Abstract Low-carbon city construction is one of the key issues that must be addressed for China to achieve high-quality economic development and meet the Sustainable Development Goals. This study creates a comprehensive evaluation index system of low-carbon city multivariate system based on carbon emission data from 30 typical Chinese cities from 2006 to 2017 and evaluates and analyzes the trend of city low-carbon levels using the CRITIC-TOPSIS technique and MK method. Meanwhile, the influence mechanism of the multi-coupled system is investigated using the coupling coordination degree model and random forest algorithm.The results show that there are 8 cities with a significant increasing trend of low-carbon level, 19 cities with no significant monotonic change trend, and 3 cities with a decreasing trend of low-carbon level. By analyzing the coupling coordination degree, we found that the coupling coordination degree between low-carbon level and economic development in most cities tends to increase year by year, from the initial antagonistic effect to a good coordination development trend, which confirms the “inverted U-shaped” relationship between economy and carbon emission. In addition, industrial pollutant emissions, foreign direct investment, and economic output are the core drivers of low-carbon levels in cities.

The incorporation of organic fertilizer is an important practice to improve the sustainability and productivity of crop production and decrease environmental pollution from crop-livestock systems in global agriculture. However, establishing an evaluation dataset is still the main challenge for quickly and effectively assessing the effect of management measures on farmland soil health. Hereby, we developed a minimum dataset (MDS) using three methods (network analysis (NA), random forest analysis (RF), and principal component analysis (PCA)). Based on MDS and two scoring functions (nonlinear (NL) and linear scoring curve (L)), the SHI (soil health index framework) was constructed to assess soil health conditions under four fertilization treatments (no fertilization, CK; only chemical fertilizer, NPK; only cow manure, MF; 50% chemical fertilizer + 50% cow manure, NPKM) in the northern ecotone of China. The results showed that the MDS-based on SHIs were positively correlated with each other and SHI-TDS (total dataset), verifying the consistency of soil health assessment models. Higher R2 was observed in the fitting of SHIs based on NA and TDS, which suggested that nMDS (minimum dataset based on network analysis) could represent most of the information in the TDS. The SHI-NL-nMDS (based on network analysis and nonlinear scoring curve) has the highest ability of sensitivity and accuracy, which indicates that compared with PCA and RF, the SHI based on NA can better embody farmland sol ecosystem functions. In addition, crop yield was significantly positive relative to SHI (soil health index). The incorporation of cow manure and chemical fertilizer improved soil health and increased crop yield. These results indicate that network analysis was a reliable technology for determining the minimum dataset in the evaluation of farmland soil health, and incorporating livestock manure could improve soil health and crop yield in this study area.

One of the major functions of the accessory protein Vif of human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) is to induce the degradation of APOBEC3 (A3) family proteins by recruiting a Cullin5-ElonginB/C-CBFβ E3 ubiquitin ligase complex to facilitate viral replication. Therefore, the interactions between Vif and the E3 complex proteins are promising targets for the development of novel anti-HIV-1 drugs. Here, peptides are designed for the Vif-CBFβ interaction based on the sequences of Vif mutants with higher affinity for CBFβ screened by a yeast surface display platform. We identified two peptides, VMP-63 and VMP-108, that could reduce the infectivity of HIV-1 produced from A3G-positive cells with IC50 values of 49.4 μM and 55.1 μM, respectively. They protected intracellular A3G from Vif-mediated degradation in HEK293T cells, consequently increasing A3G encapsulation into the progeny virions. The peptides could rapidly enter cells after addition to HEK293T cells and competitively inhibit the binding of Vif to CBFβ. Homology modeling analysis demonstrated the binding advantages of VMP-63 and VMP-108 with CBFβ over their corresponding wild-type peptides. However, only VMP-108 effectively restricted long-term HIV-1 replication and protected A3 functions in non-permissive T lymphocytes. Our findings suggest that competitive Vif-derived peptides targeting the Vif-CBFβ interaction are promising for the development of novel therapeutic strategies for acquired immune deficiency syndrome.

With the advent of cancer immunotherapy, there is a growing interest in vaccine development as a means to activate the cellular immune system against cancer. Despite the promise of DNA vaccines in this regard, their effectiveness is hindered by poor immunogenicity, leading to modest therapeutic outcomes across various cancers. The role of Type 1 conventional dendritic cells (cDC1), capable of cross-presenting vaccine antigens to activate CD8+T cells, emerges as crucial for the antitumor function of DNA vaccines. To address the limitations of DNA vaccines, a promising approach involves targeting antigens to cDC1 through the fusion of XCL1, a ligand specific to the receptor XCR1 on the surface of cDC1. Here, female C57BL/6 mice were selected for tumor inoculation and immunotherapy. Additionally, recognizing the complexity of cancer, this study explored the use of combination therapies, particularly the combination of cDC1-targeted DNA vaccine with the chemotherapy drug Gemcitabine (Gem) and the anti-PD1 antibody in a mouse lung cancer model. The study’s findings indicate that fusion antigens with XCL1 effectively enhance both the immunogenicity and antitumor effects of DNA vaccines. Moreover, the combination of the cDC1-targeted DNA vaccine with Gemcitabine and anti-PD1 antibody in the mouse lung cancer model demonstrates an improved antitumor effect, leading to the prolonged survival of mice. In conclusion, this research provides important support for the clinical investigation of cDC1-targeting DNA vaccines in combination with other therapies.

Understanding and manipulation of catalytic enantioselectivity have emerged as a paramount challenge for decades. Inspired by nature, nanozymes with enantioselectivity have been designed. However, the role of the spatial arrangement interplayed in enantioselective catalysis is rarely paid attention, let alone the manipulation of enantioselectivity switch under this context. Herein, the supramolecular chiral nanozymes composed of P/M‐polyaniline (P/M‐PANI) nanotwists and Fe3O4 nanoparticles without any chiral molecules are constructed. Taking the catalytic oxidation of 3,4‐dihydroxy‐d / l‐phenylalanine (d / l‐DOPA) as a model reaction, P‐PANI–Fe3O4 nanozymes are demonstrated to show better catalytic efficiency toward D‐DOPA, whereas M‐PANI–Fe3O4 nanozymes show preference to L‐DOPA. Intriguingly, through the simple modulation of the Fe3O4 nanoparticle density on P/M‐PANI–Fe3O4, the unprecedented enantioselectivity switch of the as‐designed nanozymes is achieved. Moreover, the select factors of P/M‐PANI–Fe3O4 toward d / l‐DOPA are determined to be significantly larger than that of commonly used chiral ligands (such as d / l‐phenylalanine)‐modified Fe3O4 nanozymes, indicating the superiority of spatial arrangement‐dominated supramolecular chirality over molecular chirality in enantioselectivity. This finding discloses the role that the spatial arrangement‐directed chiral scaffolds interplay in the enzymatic catalytic process and open a new avenue for the facile design of smart nanozymes with controlled enantioselectivity.

Graph Convolutional Network (GCN) excels at EEG recognition by capturing brain connections, but previous studies neglect the important EEG feature itself. In this study, we propose MSFR-GCN, a multi-scale feature reconstruction GCN for recognizing emotion and cognition tasks. Specifically, MSFR-GCN includes the MSFR and feature-pool characteristically, with the MSFR consisting of two sub-modules, multi-scale Squeeze-and-Excitation (MSSE) and multi-scale sample re-weighting (MSSR). MSSE assigns weights to channels and frequency bands based on their separate statistical information, while MSSR assigns sample weights based on combined channel and frequency information. The feature-pool, which pools across the feature dimension, is applied after GCN to retain EEG channel information. The MSFR-GCN achieves excellent results in emotion recognition when first tested on two public datasets, SEED and SEED-IV. Than the MSFR-GCN is tested on our self-collected Emotion and Cognition EEG dataset (ECED) for both emotion and cognition classification tasks. The results show MSFR-GCN’s good performance in emotion and cognition classification tasks and reveal the implicit relationship between the two, which may provide aid in the rehabilitation of people with cognitive impairments from an emotional perspective.

Abstract Objectives To investigate the short- and long-term effects of myopia control spectacle lenses with highly aspherical lenslets (HAL) and slightly aspherical lenslets (SAL) on visual function and visual quality using data obtained from a randomized controlled clinical trial. Methods This was a prospective, randomized, controlled, and double-blinded study; 170 myopic children aged 8–13 years were randomly assigned to the HAL, SAL, or single-vision spectacle lenses (SVL) groups. Distance and near visual acuity (VA) at high (100%) and low (10%) contrast in photopic and scotopic conditions, near phoria, stereoacuity, and accommodative lag, microfluctuations (AMFs), amplitude (AA) were measured after wearing lenses for 10 min, 6 months, and 12 months. Results In total, 161 subjects completed all follow-up in 12 months and were included in the analysis. After 10 min of wearing, the HAL and SAL groups had lower scotopic and low-contrast VA than the SVL group (decreased 0.03–0.08 logMAR and 0.01–0.04 logMAR in different VAs in the HAL and SAL groups, respectively, all P 0.05). The HAL and SAL groups had significantly larger AMFs than the SVL group (HAL vs. SAL vs. SVL: 0.21 ± 0.08 D vs. 0.16 ± 0.05 D vs. 0.15 ± 0.06 D at baseline, 0.19 ± 0.07 D vs. 0.17 ± 0.05 D vs. 0.13 ± 0.07 D at 12 months, all P 0.05). The HAL and SAL groups had reduced stereoacuity compared to the SVL group at baseline (70’ vs. 60’ vs. 50’, P = 0.005), but no difference was observed at 12 months (70’ vs. 70’ vs. 70’, P = 0.11). Conclusions HAL and SAL have no significant influence on accommodation and phoria except had larger AMF than SVL. Scotopic VA and low-contrast VA are reduced with short-term HAL and SAL use but recovered to be at same level with the SVL after 1 year of use. High-entropy alloys (HEAs) containing nanotwins exhibit simultaneous high strength and great plasticity. The instantaneous formation mechanism of nanotwins in a shear band in the hot-extruded FeCoNiCrMo0.2 HEA has been investigated. A series of material characterization and dynamic-loading experiments were carried out to study microstructures and dynamic-mechanical behavior of this alloy. The FeCoNiCrMo0.2 HEA is a single face-centered cubic (FCC) crystallographic phase and has coarse twins with sizes of about 20 μm. A shear band with a width about 25 μm appeared in the FeCoNiCrMo0.2 HEA at the nominal strain of 19.60. The shear band consists of elongated sub-grains, nanotwins, and equiaxed grains. Some elongated sub-grains are composed of nanotwins lamellae. The shear band containing nanotwins has a high strength of about 1500 MPa and good plasticity, and the true strain can reach 3.6. Moreover, nanotwins mainly exist in a lamellar form, and the thickness of these lamellae ranges from 1 nm to 7 nm. Nanotwins in the shear band are of a single FCC phase with Mo-poor contents at twin boundaries, and the twin plane is (111). Twins in the shear band and the matrix have the same orientation but different lattice constants. Severe shear deformation plays a key role in the instantaneous formation of deformation nanotwinning in the FeCoNiCrMo0.2 HEA.

Fruit color affects its commercial value. β-carotene is the pigment that provides color for many fruits and vegetables. However, the molecular mechanism of β-carotene metabolism during apricot ripening is largely unknown. Here, we investigated whether β-carotene content affects apricot fruit color. First, the differences in β-carotene content between orange apricot ‘JTY’ and white apricot ‘X15’ during nine developmental stages (S1–S9) were compared. β-carotene contents highly significantly differed between ‘JTY’ and ‘X15’ from S5 (color transition stage) onwards. Whole-transcriptome analysis showed that the β-carotene synthesis genes 15-cis-phytoene desaturase (PaPDS) and 15-cis-phytoene synthase (PaPSY) significantly differed between the two cultivars during the color transition stage. There was a 5 bp deletion in exon 11 of PaPDS in ‘X15’, which led to early termination of amino acid translation. Gene overexpression and virus-induced silencing analysis showed that truncated PaPDS disrupted the β-carotene biosynthesis pathway in apricot pulp, resulting in decreased β-carotene content and a white phenotype. Furthermore, virus-induced silencing analysis showed that PaPSY was also a key gene in β-carotene biosynthesis. These findings provide new insights into the molecular regulation of apricot carotenoids and provide a theoretical reference for breeding new cultivars of apricot.

Forest aboveground biomass (AGB) is integral to the global carbon cycle and climate change study. Local and regional AGB mapping is crucial for understanding global carbon stock dynamics. NASA’s global ecosystem dynamics investigation (GEDI) and combination of multi-source optical and synthetic aperture radar (SAR) datasets have great potential for local and regional AGB estimation and mapping. In this study, GEDI L4A AGB data and ground sample plots worked as true AGB values to explore their difference for estimating forest AGB using Sentinel-1 (S1), Sentinel-2 (S2), and ALOS PALSAR-2 (PALSAR) data, individually and in their different combinations. The effects of forest types and different true AGB values for validation were investigated in this study, as well. The combination of S1 and S2 performed best in forest AGB estimation with R2 ranging from 0.79 to 0.84 and RMSE ranging from 7.97 to 29.42 Mg/ha, with the ground sample plots used as ground truth data. While for GEDI L4A AGB product working as reference, R2 values range from 0.36 to 0.47 and RMSE values range from 31.41 to 37.50 Mg/ha. The difference between using GEDI L4A and ground sample plot as reference shows obvious dependence on forest types. In summary, optical dataset and its combination with SAR performed better in forest AGB estimation when the average AGB is less than 150 Mg/ha. The AGB predictions from GEDI L4A AGB product used as reference underperformed across the different forest types and study sites. However, GEDI can work as ground truth data source for forest AGB estimation in a certain level of estimation accuracy.

Background: The mortality rate of colorectal cancer (CRC) ranks second worldwide. Previous research had indicated that licochalcone A (LA) was a flavonoid in licorice with diverse anticancer effects. We explored the underlying mechanisms of LA-triggered anticancer activity in CRC. Methods: Thiazolyl Blue (MTT) experiment and EdU staining were utilized to evaluate cell proliferation. Meanwhile, cells were stained by Annexin V/PI to investigate apoptosis through flow cytometry assay. Moreover, expressions of proteins were detected by immunoblotting, and the level of related mRNA was investigated using real-time quantitative PCR. Results: LA selectively suppressed the proliferation and triggered apoptosis of CRC cells. Strikingly, LA induced cytoprotective autophagic activities since the suppression of autophagy significantly strengthened LA-induced cytotoxicity and FLICE inhibitory protein (c-FLIPL) degradation, meanwhile reversing LA-mediated heat shock protein 70 (Hsp70) upregulation. Moreover, autophagy-mediated Hsp70 upregulation resisted LA-induced anticancer effects since the suppression of Hsp70 strengthened LA-triggered cytotoxicity and c-FLIPL degradation. Furthermore, LA greatly activated extracellular signal-regulated protein kinases (ERK) and p38. However, blocking of ERK, but not p38, significantly boosted LA-triggered cell death and c-FLIPL downregulation. Suppression of ERK also reversed LA-mediated autophagic induction. Conclusions: LA increased Hsp70 expression depending on ERK-mediated autophagy, which protected CRC cells from LA-induced anticancer activities.

ObjectiveTrauma is China's fifth leading cause of death and ranked first among youths. Trauma databases have been well-established in many countries to announce the current state of trauma rescue, treatment and care. Nevertheless, China hasn't yet established a comparable database. This paper included two national-level databases in China to describe the current situation of trauma treatment and the epidemiological characteristics of trauma incidence, which sought to provide data support for decision-making, resource allocation, trauma prevention, trauma management, and other aspects.MethodsThis study used the diagnosis and treatment data from the Hospital Quality Monitoring System (HQMS) and the China Trauma Rescue and Treatment Association (CTRTA) in 2019. A descriptive analysis was conducted to explore the demographic characteristics, trauma causes, injury degrees of trauma patients, disease burden and mortality rates in the abstracted hospitalized cases.ResultsA total of 4,532,029 trauma patients were included, of which 4,436,653 were from HQMS and 95,376 from CTRTA respectively. The age group with the highest proportion is 50-54 years old (493,320 [11.12%] in HQMS and 12,025 [12.61%] in CTRTA). Fall was the most frequent cause of trauma hospitalization, accounting for 40.51% of all cases, followed by traffic injuries, accounting for 25.22%. However, for trauma patients aged between 20 and 24 years old, the most common cause of injury was traffic accidents (28.20%). Hospital expenses for trauma patients in 2019 exceeded 100.30 billion yuan, which increases significantly with age, and fall costs the most. The mortality rate of trauma inpatients was 0.77%, which gradually increased with age after 30-year-old, and was the highest in the age group above 85 (1.86%).ConclusionThis paper summarizes the demographic characteristics, trauma causes distribution, disease burden, mortality rate, and other relative data of inpatients in 2019, which can now be used as an up-to-date clinical evidence base for national healthcare prevention and management in China.

In this study, a concept and design of a self-powered sensor that utilizes a triboelectric effect to evaluate the condition of tensile bolted joints was proposed. Based on the fact that the triboelectric charge yields electrostatic voltage induced by the separation of the contacting rough surfaces, the proposed sensor is a film-shaped triboelectric sensor made of inexpensive materials being installed between the objects to be fastened. The principle of the sensor is that it detects microscale relative motions between the contacting surfaces against an external vibratory load when the integrity of the fastened joint is compromised due to a decrease in the bolt’s fastening force. In this study, we designed and fabricated triboelectric sensor and tested it on a tensile bolted joint specimen subjected to inertial vibratory loading, and it was experimentally shown that the output voltage amplitude of the sensor increased as the bolt’s fastening force decreased. In addition, a modeling study was performed to explain the unexpected decrease in voltage amplitude observed at medium preloads, by combining the triboelectric and mechanical models with the experimental results of two different external circuit configurations. Estimation of the triboelectric charge density at the contacting surfaces was performed, which was found to be consistent with the contact mechanics model assumed. Finally, the calculation of the sensor output voltage based on the presented mechanical/triboelectric model was provided, confirming the validity of the modeling study.

In the medium voltage cascaded converter, the power imbalance problem among the converter modules will result in certain converter modules over-modulated. Reactive power control (RPC) scheme is an effective way to balance the cascaded converters. Many efforts, such as reactive power sharing control and apparent power sharing control have been used to solve the overmodulation issue. This paper investigates an optimization RPC scheme to solve the overmodulation problem by minimizing the total required reactive power. An improved minimum reactive power (IMRP) RPC scheme is presented, the feasible area for the active power imbalance is evaluated and compared with the reactive power sharing control scheme and the apparent power sharing control scheme. Finally, the control scheme is verified on a three-module scaled-down cascaded inverter.

Abstract Background Asthma is a heterogeneous disease and different phenotypes based on clinical parameters have been identified. However, the molecular subgroups of asthma defined by gene expression profiles of induced sputum have been rarely reported. Methods We re-analyzed the asthma transcriptional profiles of the dataset of GSE45111. A deep bioinformatics analysis was performed. We classified 47 asthma cases into different subgroups using unsupervised consensus clustering analysis. Clinical features of the subgroups were characterized, and their biological function and immune status were analyzed using Gene Ontology (GO), Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) and single sample Gene Set Enrichment Analysis (ssGSEA). Weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA) and protein–protein interaction (PPI) network were performed to identify key gene modules and hub genes. Results Unsupervised consensus clustering of gene expression profiles in asthma identified two distinct subgroups (Cluster I/II), which were significantly associated with eosinophilic asthma (EA) and paucigranulocytic asthma (PGA). The differentially expressed genes (DEGs) between the two subgroups were primarily enriched in immune response regulation and signal transduction. The ssGSEA suggested the different immune infiltration and function scores between the two clusters. The WGCNA and PPI analysis identified three hub genes: THBS1, CCL22 and CCR7. ROC analysis further suggested that the three hub genes had a good ability to differentiate the Cluster I from the Cluster II. Conclusions Based on the gene expression profiles of the induced sputum, we identified two asthma subgroups, which revealed different clinical characteristics, gene expression patterns, biological functions and immune status. The transcriptional classification confirms the molecular heterogeneity of asthma and provides a framework for more in-depth research on the mechanisms of asthma.

ObjectivesNational data on the admission rate, distribution, in-hospital mortality, and economic burden of traumatic fractures in China is unclear. We aimed to conduct a cross-sectional population-based study to determine such above data at the national level in China.MethodsA national administrative database was used to review all traumatic fracture hospitalizations in China during 2020, from which a total of 2,025,169 inpatients with traumatic fractures was retrieved. Admission rates and in-hospital mortality rates stratified by age, sex, and region were calculated. The causes of traumatic fracture and economic burden were described.ResultsThe admission rate of traumatic fractures of all China population in 2020 was 1.437‰. The admission rate increased with age and varied with genders and causes of injuries. Falls are the leading cause of traumatic fracture hospitalization, followed by road traffic injuries. The most common diagnoses were femoral neck fractures, with a number of 138,377. The in-hospital mortality was 1.209‰. Road traffic injuries led to the highest in-hospital mortality. The median length of stay was 10 days, with the median hospitalization cost of ¥20,900 (about $3,056).ConclusionTraumatic fractures are concerning conditions with a high admission rate and in-hospital mortality in China, which are mainly caused by falls and road traffic injuries. The government should implement more public health policies to enhance the health of the elderly and improve transportation safety to prevent traumatic fractures.

Promoting animal husbandry industry is important to help strengthen the agricultural sector. This study starts from both socio-economic and natural factors perspectives. Based on an exploratory spatial analysis, spatial econometric model, and geographically weighted regression (GWR) model, selecting the 13 Provinces of North China as the study area, this study analyzes the spatio-temporal differences and the driving factors. This study found: 1) Between 2006 and 2017, the spatial and temporal differences of GDP in the 13 provinces were statistically significant, with increased total production values and a slowed growth of the industry. In addition, the study area showed an east-west dichotomy in husbandry industry. 2) GDP had shown obvious spatial agglomeration, of which areas with the high production value were in east of Beijing, and areas with low production value were in western Inner Mongolia, Xinjiang and Gansu. 3) Population, animal husbandry output values, numbers of large livestock, and cultivated areas had greatly influenced the GDP of 13 provinces in north China. 4) The three influencing factors on GDP in the 13 provinces were found to be population, animal husbandry output values, and the sizes of cultivated areas. We should synthesize these influencing factors, supplemented with public policy concessions and compensatory measures to develop policies for improving the level of local economic development. Based on this, this study aims to provide a reference for decision making to promote the coordinated development of livestock husbandry and economic growth in China, and even provide a scientific reference for the management of similar pastoral areas in the world.

Abstract Background Asthma is a heterogeneous disease that can be divided into four inflammatory phenotypes: eosinophilic asthma (EA), neutrophilic asthma (NA), mixed granulocytic asthma (MGA), and paucigranulocytic asthma (PGA). While research has mainly focused on EA and NA, the understanding of PGA is limited. In this study, we aimed to identify underlying mechanisms and hub genes of PGA. Methods Based on the dataset from Gene Expression Omnibus(GEO), weighted gene coexpression network analysis (WGCNA), differentially expressed genes (DEGs) analysis and protein–protein interaction (PPI) network analysis were conducted to construct a gene network and to identify key gene modules and hub genes. Functional enrichment analyses were performed to investigate the biological process, pathways and immune status of PGA. The hub genes were validated in a separate dataset. Results Compared to non-PGA, PGA had a different gene expression pattern, in which 449 genes were differentially expressed. One gene module significantly associated with PGA was identified. Intersection between the differentially expressed genes (DEGs) and the genes from the module that were most relevant to PGA were mainly enriched in inflammation and immune response regulation. The single sample Gene Set Enrichment Analysis (ssGSEA) suggested a decreased immune infiltration and function in PGA. Finally six hub genes of PGA were identified, including ADCY2, CXCL1, FPRL1, GPR109B, GPR109A and ADCY3, which were validated in a separate dataset of GSE137268. Conclusions Our study characterized distinct gene expression patterns, biological processes and immune status of PGA and identified hub genes, which may improve the understanding of underlying mechanism and provide potential therapeutic targets for PGA.

Abstract This paper presents an experimental investigation on the effect of freeze–thaw cycling on expansive soil slopes with different initial moisture contents. Clay soil from Weifang, China, was remolded and selected to build the expansive soil slope for the indoor slope model tests. A total of five freeze–thaw cycles were applied to the three expansive soil slopes with different moisture contents ranging from 20 to 40%. Variations of the crack developments, displacements, soil pressures and moisture contents of the expansive soil slope with different initial moisture contents during the freeze–thaw cycling were reported and discussed. The results indicate that higher moisture contents can slow the development of cracks and that the soil pressure increases with decreasing temperature. The soil pressure of slope decreases after freeze–thaw cycle, and the change amplitude of soil pressure after freeze–thaw is proportional to water content. The slopes with a moisture content of 20% and 30% shrinks during freezing and expands during thawing, which was named ES-FSTE Model, while the slope with a 40% moisture content shows the opposite behavior. During freeze–thaw cycles, moisture migrates to slope surface. As initial moisture contents increase, the soil heat transfer rate and bearing capacity decreases after five freeze–thaw cycling.

The relationship between technological innovation (TL) and environmental pollution (EP) and its action mechanisms are complex and controversial aspects of discussion. Using the spatial autocorrelation analysis, standard deviation ellipse analysis, kernel density function, spatial econometric model, this study analyzed the spatial distribution, evolution characteristics, and influencing factors of the EP and TL from 2000 to 2020 in China. Results found there was a significant spatial autocorrelation between the EP and TL in 2000–2020. The standard deviation ellipse of EP was broadly distributed in the “southwest-northeast” direction, indicating that EP presented a trend of concentration in the direction of “southwest-northeast.” The moving trajectory of the center of gravity for the EP in 2000–2020 was essentially moved from the northeast to southwest. Overall, the national level of TL exhibited a “north-south change, high in the east, and low in the west” trend. Regional differences were gradually expanding, and the polarization was evident. Regardless of using least squares method (OLS) or quantile regression (QR) models, TL, human capital (HC), and industrial structure (IS) all had an inhibitory effect on the EP at the effective significance level. Total population (TP), foreign direct investment (FDI), and local fiscal expenditure (LFE) were positively related to the EP.

In recent decades, the effect of Fe element addition on titanium alloy has been investigated extensively due to the development of low-cost titanium alloys, as well as B microalloying, which could decrease the grain size of titanium alloys during the casting process. As a key structural material, the study of the fatigue behavior of titanium alloys is crucial and always attractive for scientists. Hence, in this paper, the low cycle fatigue (LCF) behavior and fracture characteristics of a low-cost Ti-2Fe-0.1B alloy with a lamellar structure were investigated systematically, five different strain amplitudes (Δεt/2) in the range from 0.6% to 1.4% were selected to control the LCF process. It was found that the Ti-2Fe-0.1B alloy exhibits continuous cyclic softening behavior in the cycle as a whole at Δεt/2 ≤ 1.2%, while at Δεt/2 = 1.4%, it exhibits slight cyclic hardening at the initial stage of the cycle, then shows cyclic softening. Compared with pure titanium and other typical titanium alloys, the Ti-2Fe-0.1B alloy indicated maximum fatigue life under the same strain amplitude, it can be attributed to the fine grain size result from the effect of Fe element and trace B, which could hinder the dislocation movement and crack propagation.

Fruit size is one of the essential quality traits and influences the economic value of apricots. To explore the underlying mechanisms of the formation of differences in fruit size in apricots, we performed a comparative analysis of anatomical and transcriptomics dynamics during fruit growth and development in two apricot cultivars with contrasting fruit sizes (large-fruit Prunus armeniaca ‘Sungold’ and small-fruit P. sibirica ‘F43’). Our analysis identified that the difference in fruit size was mainly caused by the difference in cell size between the two apricot cultivars. Compared with ‘F43’, the transcriptional programs exhibited significant differences in ‘Sungold’, mainly in the cell expansion period. After analysis, key differentially expressed genes (DEGs) most likely to influence cell size were screened out, including genes involved in auxin signal transduction and cell wall loosening mechanisms. Furthermore, weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA) revealed that PRE6/bHLH was identified as a hub gene, which interacted with 1 TIR1, 3 AUX/IAAs, 4 SAURs, 3 EXPs, and 1 CEL. Hence, a total of 13 key candidate genes were identified as positive regulators of fruit size in apricots. The results provide new insights into the molecular basis of fruit size control and lay a foundation for future breeding and cultivation of larger fruits in apricot.

ObjectiveTo retrospectively investigate the value of various MRI image menifestations in the hepatobiliary phase (HBP), DWI and T2WI sequences in predicting the pathological grades of intrahepatic mass-forming cholangiocarcinoma (IMCC).Materials and MethodsForty-three patients of IMCCs confirmed by pathology were enrolled including 25 cases in well- or moderately-differentiated group and 18 cases in poorly-differentiated group. All patients underwent DWI, T2WI and HBP scan. The Chi square test was used to compare the differences in the general information. Logistic regression analysis was used to analyze the risk factors in predicting the pathological grade of IMCCs.ResultsThe maximal diameter of the IMCC lesion was < 3 cm in 11 patients, between 3 cm and 6 cm in 15, and > 6 cm in 17. Sixteen cases had intrahepatic metastasis, including 5 in the well- or moderately-differentiated group and 11 in the poorly-differentiated group. Seventeen (39.5%) patients presented with target signs in the DWI sequence, including 9 in the well- or moderately-differentiated group and 8 in the poorly-differentiated group. Twenty (46.5%) patients presented with target signs in the T2WI sequence, including 8 in the well- or moderately-differentiated group and 12 in the poorly-differentiated group. Nineteen cases (54.3%) had a complete hypointense signal ring, including 13 in the well- or moderately-differentiated group and 6 in the poorly-differentiated group. Sixteen (45.7%) cases had an incomplete hypointense signal ring, including 5 in the well- or moderately-differentiated group and 11 in the poorly-differentiated group. The lesion size, intrahepatic metastasis, T2WI signal, and integrity of a hypointense signal ring in HBP were statistically significantly different between two gourps. T2WI signal, presence or non-presence of intrahepatic metastasis, and integrity of hypointense signal ring were the independent influencing factors for pathological grade of IMCC.ConclusionTarget sign in T2WI sequence, presence of intrahepatic metastasis and an incomplete hypointense-signal ring in HBP are more likely to be present in poorly-differentiated IMCCs.

Abstract Understanding maturation pathways of broadly neutralizing antibodies (bnAbs) against HIV‐1 can be highly informative for HIV‐1 vaccine development. A lineage of J038 bnAbs is now obtained from a long‐term SHIV‐infected macaque. J038 neutralizes 54% of global circulating HIV‐1 strains. Its binding induces a unique “up” conformation for one of the V2 loops in the trimeric envelope glycoprotein and is heavily dependent on glycan, which provides nearly half of the binding surface. Their unmutated common ancestor neutralizes the autologous virus. Continuous maturation enhances neutralization potency and breadth of J038 lineage antibodies via expanding antibody‐Env contact areas surrounding the core region contacted by germline‐encoded residues. Developmental details and recognition features of J038 lineage antibodies revealed here provide a new pathway for elicitation and maturation of V2‐targeting bnAbs.

Abstract. Background:. Models to predict mortality in trauma play an important role in outcome prediction and severity adjustment, which informs trauma quality assessment and research. Hospitals in China typically use the International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Revision, Clinical Modification (ICD-10-CM) to describe injury. However, there is no suitable prediction model for China. This study attempts to develop a new mortality prediction model based on the ICD-10-CM lexicon and a Chinese database. Methods:. This retrospective study extracted the data of all trauma patients admitted to the Beijing Red Cross Emergency Center, from January 2012 to July 2018 (n = 40,205). We used relevant predictive variables to establish a prediction model following logistic regression analysis. The performance of the model was assessed based on discrimination and calibration. The bootstrapping method was used for internal validation and adjustment of model performance. Results:. Sex, age, new region-severity codes, comorbidities, traumatic shock, and coma were finally included in the new model as key predictors of mortality. Among them, coma and traumatic shock had the highest scores in the model. The discrimination and calibration of this model were significant, and the internal validation performance was good. The values of the area under the curve and Brier score for the new model were 0.9640 and 0.0177, respectively; after adjustment of the bootstrapping method, they were 0.9630 and 0.0178, respectively. Conclusions:. The new model (China Mortality Prediction Model in Trauma based on the ICD-10-CM lexicon) showed great discrimination and calibration, and performed well in internal validation; it should be further verified externally.

The high-rate discharging performance of lithium titanate batteries is a crucial aspect of their functionality. Under high-power demands, the discharge rate, which is defined as the ratio of discharge current to the maximum capacity, can exceed 50 C or higher. This study investigates the evolution of incremental capacity (IC) curves and frequency response characteristic of 2 Ah lithium titanate batteries subjected to aging cycles at 50 C. The results provide a new indicator to assess the fading of the state of health (SOH) of lithium titanate batteries during ultra-high-rate discharge cycles.

Addressing the problem that control methods of wheel-legged robots for future Mars exploration missions are too complex, a time-efficient control method based on velocity planning for a hexapod wheel-legged robot is proposed in this paper, which is named time-efficient control based on velocity planning (TeCVP). When the foot end or wheel at knee comes into contact with the ground, the desired velocity of the foot end or knee is transformed according to the velocity transformation of the rigid body from the desired velocity of the torso which is obtained by the deviation of torso position and posture. Furthermore, the torques of joints can be obtained by impedance control. When suspended, the leg is regarded as a system consisting of a virtual spring and a virtual damper to realize control of legs in the swing phase. In addition, leg sequences of switching motion between wheeled configuration and legged configuration are planned. According to a complexity analysis, velocity planning control has lower time complexity and less times of multiplication and addition compared with virtual model control. In addition, simulations show that velocity planning control can realize stable periodic gait motion, wheel-leg switching motion and wheeled motion and the operation time of velocity planning control is about 33.89% less than that of virtual model control, which promises a great prospect for velocity planning control in future planetary exploration missions.

Parthenogenetic reproduction is a common feature for social Hymenoptera, as males typically develop from unfertilized eggs (arrhenotoky). Production of female offspring without the involvement of sperm (thelytoky) also exists but is rather exceptional as it has been reported for only 16 ant species so far. Three of these belong to the genus Strumigenys: S. hexamera, S. membranifera and S. rogeri. Our observations on the reproductive biology in various Oriental Strumigenys species extends this list of thelytokous ants with three more species: S. emmae, S. liukueiensis and S. solifontis. Of these six thelotykous species, S. emmae, S. membranifera and S. rogeri are known as tramp species. Reproduction without the need to fertilize eggs no doubt offers these species a considerable advantage when establishing colonies in new environments. Published histological data on S. hexamera and S. membranifera already showed that the queens possess a functional spermatheca. We now provide evidence that this is also the case for the four other thelytokous Strumigenys species. Retaining a functional spermatheca and reproductive system may keep the queens ready for the exceptional event of mating and hence increase genetic variability, as males do occur very rarely.

Unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) relay can effectively improve the coverage and performance of land communications, which makes it prospective to be deployed in various applications. However, there exist some practical challenges we have to face in UAV-enabled communication system designing, such as secrecy and wiretapping threats due to the air-to-ground line-of-sight communication link, and energy consumption issues because of the limitation in energy-constraint. To deal with these two key issues, we develop a novel UAV swarm assisted multi-hop mobile relay system which can be applied in special scenarios with severe blockage or long distance to enhance communication performance. An effective cooperative transmission scheme is proposed to address the security issues in a physical layer security perspective, where several UAVs serve as multi-hop relays forwarding information between ground users and the other UAVs are employed as friendly jammers confusing the ground eavesdroppers. The minimum secrecy energy efficiency (MSEE), namely the minimum achievable secrecy rate per energy consumption unit over legitimate links, is designed as the performance indicator to quantify the secure and energy-efficient transmission. Subject to information-causality, transmit power, and mobility constraints, the UAV swarm assisted MSEE maximization transmission scheme is formulated into a complicated non-convex problem. To solve the non-convex fractional optimization problem, we decouple the original problem into sub-problems and further propose an efficient algorithm by applying the block coordinate descent method, successive convex approximation (SCA) techniques, and Dinkelbach method. Numerical results demonstrate that the proposed scheme achieves considerable performance enhancement on MSEE compared with benchmark schemes.

The human AAA+protein p97 plays an important role in cellular protein homeostasis. Here, the authors use cryo-EM to obtain further insights into how p97 interacts with its co-factor Npl4 and they observe three distinct conformational states of Npl4 in complex with human p97, which suggests that a seesaw motion is essential for the unfolding activity of the p97 complex.
