9. Pairing phenomena and superfluidity of atomic Fermi gases in a two-dimensional optical lattice: Unusual effects of lattice-continuum mixing

Abstract

We study the superfluid behavior of ultracold atomic Fermi gases with a short range attractive interaction in a two-dimensional optical lattice (2DOL) using a pairing fluctuation theory, within the context of BCS-BEC crossover. We find that the mixing of lattice and continuum dimensions leads to exotic phenomena. For relatively large lattice constant $d$ and small hopping integral $t$, the superfluid transition temperature $T_c$ exhibits a remarkable reentrant behavior as a function of the interaction strength, and leads to a pair density wave ground state, where $T_c$ vanishes, for a range of intermediate coupling strength. In the unitary and BCS regimes, the nature of the in-plane and overall pairing changes from particle-like to hole-like, with an unexpected nonmonotonic dependence of the chemical potential on the pairing strength. The BEC asymptotic behaviors exhibit distinct power law dependencies on the interaction strength compared to cases of pure 3D lattice, 3D continuum, and 1DOL. Abstract

The reverse water‐gas shift (RWGS) reaction is significant for the resource utilization of CO2. However, this reaction requires high temperatures and metal catalysts are prone to agglomeration, leading to loss of activity. In this work, a Pt catalyst supported on Mo₂N formed via phase transition and metal reverse sintering under a high‐temperature NH₃ atmosphere is developed. This catalyst exhibits excellent RWGS activity, achieving a CO production rate of 294.8 mmolgcat−1 h−1 at 623 K, with CO selectivity maintained at 93%. Moreover, under continuous testing conditions for 100 h, the catalyst's activity shows no significant decline. Notably, further investigation reveals that the surface reaction mechanism at 623 K differs from the previously reported associative mechanism, instead following a redox mechanism in the presence of H₂. This research not only provides a deeper theoretical understanding of the mechanism of CO2 hydrogenation but also offers valuable insights for developing novel and efficient metal catalyst regeneration technologies. Abstract

The prospect of RNA nanotechnology is increasing because of its numerous potential applications especially in medical science. The spherical Nanodiamonds (NDs) are becoming popular because of their lesser toxicity, desirable mechanical, optical properties, functionality and available surface areas. On other hand RNAs are stable, flexible and easy to bind to the NDs. In this work, we have studied the tRNA dynamics on ND surface by high-resolution quasi-elastic neutron scattering spectroscopy and all atom molecular dynamics simulation technique to understand how the tRNA motion is affected by the presence of ND. The flexibly of the tRNA is analyzed by the Mean square displacement analysis that shows tRNA have a sharp increase around 230K in its hydrated form. The intermediate scattering function (ISF) representing the tRNA dynamics follows the logarithmic decay as proposed by the Mode Coupling theory (MCT). But most importantly the tRNA dynamics is found to be faster in presence of ND within 220K to 310K compared to the freestanding ones. Abstract

MXenes have shown great potential as an emerging two-dimensional (2D) material for micro-supercapacitors (MSCs) due to their high conductivity, rich surface chemistry, and high capacity. However, MXene sheets inherently tend to lay flat on the substrate during film formation to assemble into compact stacked structures, which hinders ion accessibility and prolongs ion transport paths, leading to highly dependent electrochemical properties on the thickness of the film. Here, we demonstrate a vertically aligned Ti3C2Tx MXene based micro-supercapacitor with an excellent electrochemical performance by a liquid nitrogen-assisted freeze-drying method. The vertical arrangement of the 2D MXene sheets allows for directional ion transport, enabling the vertical-MXene based MSCs to exhibit thickness-independent electrochemical properties even in thick films. In addition, the MSCs displayed a high areal capacitance of 87 mF cm−2 at 10 mV s−1 along with an excellent stability of ∼87.4% after 10 000 charge–discharge cycles. Abstract

Caffeine (1,3,7-trimethylxanthine) is a naturally occurring methylxanthine that acts as a potent central nervous system stimulant found in more than 60 different plants and fruits. Although caffeinated beverages are widely and casually consumed, the application of caffeine beyond dietary levels as pharmacologic therapy has been recognized since the beginning of its recorded use. The analgesic and vasoactive properties of caffeine are well known, but the extent of their molecular basis remains an area of active research. There is existing evidence in the literature as to caffeine's effect on TRP channels, the role of caffeine in pain management and analgesia, as well as the role of TRP in pain and analgesia; however, there has yet to be a review focused on the interaction between caffeine and TRP channels. Although the influence of caffeine on TRP has been demonstrated in the lab and in animal models, there is a scarcity of data collected on a large scale as to the clinical utility of caffeine as a regulator of TRP. This review aims to prompt further molecular research to elucidate the specific ligand–host interaction between caffeine and TRP by validating caffeine as a regulator of transient receptor potential (TRP) channels—focusing on the transient receptor potential vanilloid 1 (TRPV1) receptor and transient receptor potential ankyrin 1 (TRPA1) receptor subtypes—and its application in areas of pain.
