Apiospora species are widely distributed fungi with diverse lifestyles, primarily functioning as plant pathogens, as well as exhibiting saprophytic and endophytic behaviors. This study reports the discovery of three new species of Apiospora, namely A. gongcheniae, A. paragongcheniae, and A. neogongcheniae, isolated from healthy Poaceae plants in China. These novel species were identified through a multi-gene phylogenetic analysis. The phylogenetic analysis of the combined ITS, LSU, tef1, and tub2 sequence data revealed that the three new species formed a robustly supported clade with A. garethjonesii, A. neogarethjonesii, A. setostroma, A. subrosea, A. mytilomorpha, and A. neobambusae. Detailed descriptions of the newly discovered species are provided and compared with closely related species to enhance our understanding of the genus Apiospora.

Abstract The internet of things accelerates the wireless connections of massive devices to provide all kinds of new services, and thus intensifies the spectrum scarcity and access delay. Cognitive radio (CR) technology brings a solution for the issue. As a typical CR scheme, opportunistic spectrum access (OSA) has been addressed widely in the past decade. However, the tradeoff between two key indexes, the throughput of cognitive radio network (CRN) and the delay of secondary user (SU), is rarely mentioned so far, which ignites the authors’ work in this paper. Taking into account a channel handoff (CH) based multi‐channel OSA scenario, the authors first analyze the opportunistic transmission performance of SU, and model the throughput of CRN as well as the handoff delay of SU. Then, the authors build up a delay‐constraint throughput optimization problem, and thus formulate the throughput‐delay tradeoff for OSA. Finally, the optimal traffic rates of SU for a good throughput‐delay tradeoff are derived according to maximizing the throughput of CRN. Theoretical and simulated results show that to enhance the throughput and to reduce the delay do not conflict always. By well adjusting the traffic rates of SU according to the traffic rates of primary user, the throughput of CRN can be improved while the handoff delay can be kept under a given level.

BackgroundThe systemic immune-inflammation index (SII) showed an extensive link between immunological dysfunction and the activation of systemic inflammation. Several studies have confirmed the application of SII to orthopedic diseases. However, the significance of SII in critically ill elderly individuals with hip fracture who require intensive care unit (ICU) admission is not yet known. This study centered on exploring the relationship between SII and clinical outcomes among critically ill elderly hip fracture individuals.MethodsThe study centered around elderly patients experiencing severe illness following hip fractures and requiring admission to the ICU. These patients from the MIMIC-IV database formed the basis of this study’s cohort. We stratified them into quartiles according to their SII levels. The results involved the mortality at 30 days and 1 year post-admission. Then we employ Cox proportional hazards regression analysis as well as restricted cubic splines to explore the association between the SII and clinical results in critically ill elderly patients with hip fracture.ResultsThe study encompassed 991 participants, among whom 63.98% identified as females. Notably, the mortality rates attributed to any cause within 30 days and 1 year after hospitalization stood at 19.68 and 33.40%, respectively. The multivariate Cox proportional hazards model disclosed a significant correlation between an elevated SII and all-cause mortality. Abstract Background To explore whether robotic lobectomy (RL) is superior to video‐assisted lobectomy (VAL) in terms of short‐term outcomes in patients with pulmonary neoplasms. Methods From January 30, 2019 to February 28, 2022, a series of consecutive minimally invasive lobectomies were performed for patients with pulmonary neoplasms. Perioperative outcomes such as operation time, blood loss, dissected lymph nodes (LNs), surgical complications, postoperative pain control, length of postoperative stay in hospital, and total cost of hospitalization were compared. Trichoderma spp. are diverse fungi with wide distribution. In this study, we report on three new species of Trichoderma, namely T. nigricans, T. densissimum and T. paradensissimum, collected from soils in China. Their phylogenetic position of these novel species was determined by analyzing the concatenated sequences of the second largest nuclear RNA polymerase subunit encoding gene (rpb2) and the translation elongation factor 1– alpha encoding gene (tef1). The results of the phylogenetic analysis showed that each new species formed a distinct clade: T. nigricans is a new member of the Atroviride Clade, and T. densissimum and T. paradensissimum belong to the Harzianum Clade. A detailed description of the morphology and cultural characteristics of the newly discovered Trichoderma species is provided, and these characteristics were compared with those of closely related species to better understand the taxonomic relationships within the Trichoderma.

Abstract Background Major pathologic response (MPR) is mainly focused on residual viable tumor in the tumor bed regardless of lymph node. Herein, we investigated the predictive value of MPR and node status on survival in nonsmall‐cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients receiving neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) and surgery. Methods A total of 194 eligible cases were included. Tumor pathologic response and node status were assessed. Based on these evaluations, patients were divided into the MPR group and the non‐MPR group, the nodal downstaging (ND) group and non‐ND group. Furthermore, patients were assigned into four subgroups (MPR + ND, MPR + non‐ND, non‐MPR + ND, and non‐MPR + non‐ND). Overall survival (OS) and disease‐free survival (DFS) were compared between groups. Multivariate analyses were performed to identify prognostic factors. Results MPR was identified in 32 patients and ND was present in 108 patients. OS and DFS were better in the MPR group than in the non‐MPR group, but with no statistical significance (OS, p = 0.158; DFS, p = 0.126). The ND group had better OS than the non‐ND group (p = 0.031). However, the DFS between these two groups was comparable (p = 0.103). Further analyses suggested that both OS and DFS were better in the MPR + ND group than in the non‐MPR + non‐ND group (OS, p = 0.017; DFS, p = 0.029). Multivariate analyses confirmed that MPR + ND was an independent favorable predictor. Conclusions MPR combined with ND could improve the predictive value on survival in NSCLC patients receiving NAC.

Situs inversus totalis (SIT) is an extremely rare anomaly characterized by a left‐to‐right reversal of all the thoracic and abdominal organs. Only 11 cases of esophageal cancer with SIT have been reported worldwide, most of which underwent hybrid minimally invasive esophagectomy (MIE) but not total MIE. Here, we report a case of esophageal cancer with SIT successfully treated by total MIE, with a right lateral‐prone position adopted during the thoracic procedure. The relevant literature is also discussed and reviewed.
