Abstract

Research was conducted to examine the photorefractive and optical characteristics of Nb-doped BaTiO3. The gradual modification of the photorefractive properties of BaTiO3 was carried out through the addition of Nb which changed the charge carrier from hole to electron. The deep and shallow trap model with hole as the principal carrier explains two beam coupling gain along with electron-hole competition. The dark conductivity increased very fast and the electron became the major carrier after the compensation point, when an absorption at about 600 nanometers evolved.
