The current process to purify cannabidiol (CBD) from C. sativa extract is long and intensive, requiring several steps such as winterification for 48 hours at 45°C and high-temperature, high vacuum distillation. These processes are capital intensive and generate large amounts of toxic solvent waste. In contrast, the solid phase extraction (SPE) methodology proposed herein will change the way CBD is obtained, doing so in a single step that is fast and reusable. Furthermore, the new process is simple and easily implemented and does not require any intensive operator training. Starbon® A300 was successfully employed as the stationary phase in SPE taking Cannabis sativa extract in hexane to selectively physisorb the cannabinoids onto the surface, followed by ethanol to bring about desorption at up to 93 (by GC-FID). A similar one pot system was also proven, using Fedora hemp stem dust as feedstock, with extraction and adsorption in supercritical CO2 followed by desorption in ethanol. © 2022 The Royal Society of Chemistry

The MCX-CMAC utilizes the standard archival practice of unique naming of collections. The purpose of this is to avoid redundant and confusing collection names commonly found with archaeological investigations. Therefore, this collection is referred to as "Upper Yazoo Project 3A-2.” This naming practice is consistent throughout the finding aid, the file folder titles, and box labels. The linear extent of this collection is four (4) inches. All field and catalog records were duplicated according to the Cobb Institute’s requirements. The copies were also packaged in acid-free folders and labeled identically to the original folders, with the exception of a notation indicating that the folder contains copies. These copies are stored separately from the originals. Four rolls of black and white and color photographs, negatives and prints, were removed from this collection to more appropriate storage. One 3 ½-inch floppy disk was removed from this collection. This disk was received and opened by MCX staff archaeologists. The file “Invyazo.dbf” was converted into Microsoft Excel and printed. Subsequent attempts to open the files on the disk failed. The floppy disk is presently unreadable. The document that was recovered was printed and placed in folder 24, “Electronic Records, Electronic Documents; [Electronic Media Removed]; n.d.”

Origin stories collected among the indigenous peoples in the Windward Islands during the early colonial period have been interpreted as indicating a mainland Carib affiliation for the islanders. This interpretation gave rise to efforts in the present century to identify the archaeological correlate of the presumed late prehistoric or protohistoric migration of Cariban speakers into the Lesser Antilles. Recent debate centers around two models. One of these associates the supposed migration of mainland Caribs into the Lesser Antilles with the advent of the Suazey ceramic complex in the twelfth century; the other implies either a protohistoric migration or an episode of rapid acculturation of island populations to South American mainland Carib culture in the fifteenth or sixteenth centuries. A review of relevant archaeological, historical, and linguistic evidence provides little support for either of these models. Instead, the so-called “Island Caribs” were Arawakan speakers, probably longtime residents of the Windward Islands whose cultural and linguistic connections with the mainland Caribs probably were the products of contacts related to trade and alliance.
