Abstract

Botryocladia leptopoda is a red macroalga known for its bioactive compounds with antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and skin-regenerative properties. The study aimed to examine their effects on UV protection, collagen synthesis, fibroblast proliferation, and pigmentation modulation. Bioactive compounds were extracted using two solvents, producing ethanol extract (FE) and alkaline extracts (AE). Methods involved characterizing extracts using mass spectrometry and assessing their effects on human fibroblasts under UVB-induced damage. UV absorbance, ROS production, and collagen synthesis were evaluated. The FE extract, which comprised 4-hydroxyquinoline, phytosphingosine, and docosapentaenoic acid, reinstated procollagen type I synthesis to 113% of baseline levels and reduced TGF-β1-mediated fibroblast proliferation to 87.78%. FE also suppressed Smad2 and α-SMA by 71% and 68%, respectively, indicating modulation of fibrosis-associated pathways. AE, containing 4-hydroxyquinoline and phenylalanine betaine, demonstrated dose-responsive cellular repair, reducing fibroblast proliferation to 97.86% and collagen Type I expression by 73% at 1000 μg/mL. Both extracts decreased ROS production, with FE and AE reducing levels by 21.4% and 19.7%, respectively, under UVB-induced oxidative stress. Abstract

Kombucha, a functional beverage rich in glucuronic acid, is fermented in the presence of acetic acid bacteria and yeast as the primary microorganisms. Glucuronic acid is recognized for its various physiological benefits, such as detoxification, antioxidation, and anti-inflammation. To optimize the glucuronic acid content in kombucha, various strain combinations by selecting fermented sources were accomplished. According to the experimental results, kombucha produced through co-fermentation with Pichia anomala and Komagataeibacter hansenii, with glucose-added black tea as the carbon source, exhibited the highest glucuronic acid production. A response surface methodology found that under optimized conditions of a 12.27% (w/v) carbon source concentration, a 10.07% (w/v) substrate concentration, and a 28.4 °C temperature, the highest glucuronic acid production reached 80.16 g/L, which represented a 2.39-fold increase compared to the original kombucha. Furthermore, the total polyphenol content increased by 3.87-fold, while DPPH and ABTS free radical–scavenging capacities increased by 1.86- and 2.22-fold, respectively. To sum up, these observations reveal the potential for commercial production of glucuronic acid–enriched kombucha and contribute to the development of functional food products related to kombucha in the future. Abstract

As an essential tool, camera acts as crucial media that assist photographers to complete their photography works or make a record. It is common for general users to use small format cameras in their daily lives. Medium format camera, on the other side, is another camera type with fewer mentioned. Therefore, this dissertation adopts Windrum (2005) approaches in order to retest hypotheses of distinct market niches in both 35mm SLR and medium format cameras. Meanwhile, this research employed demand-side lifecycle theory in order to have alternative explanations to consumer heterogeneous and innovation approaches in the case of camera market. This dissertation research applies hedonic price method and regression analysis to those four models. This dissertation research applies hedonic price method and regression analysis to those four models. This research tries to investigate hypothesis issues such as: the technical characteristics of cameras, distinct market niches, a Moore’s law effect, and brand equity issues. The result shows that camera price can be explained by technical characteristics. In addition, the finding indicated that distinct market niches do exist for 35mmSLR and medium format cameras. Besides, this study examine that the Moore’s law would not apply to the case of camera markets. This study perceives some camera manufacturers have their own brand equity in the marketplace. This dissertation expects the potential contribution to not only twenty years of time scale but the topic of medium format camera and 35mm SLR camera. By testing the hypothesis of these two types of cameras, this dissertation supposed to provide findings that helped other researchers to have further understanding the relationship between consumer heterogeneous preference and medium format cameras.

Abstract

Background: Endoscopic evaluation plays an indispensable role in medical treatments designed to prevent, diagnose, and cure gastrointestinal disease. Surveillance culture monitoring may be useful in monitoring the outcome of reprocessing., Purpose: In this project, microbiologic surveillance cultures were employed to improve the quality of flexible endoscope disinfection., Resolution: This project, implemented from February 1st, 2018 to February 28th, 2019, used several approaches to improve the positive culture rate. We redesigned and implemented the standard operating procedures for endoscope reprocessing, established an in-service training course, provided education materials on reprocessing, and installed a storage cabinet that custom-built to accommodate the endoscope., Results: The positive culture rate was reduced from 5.8% to 0%., Conclusions: Endoscopy culturing is a useful method to assess the effectiveness of standard reprocessing procedures. The development of guidelines and skill practices should follow current, evidence-based practice and infection prevention principles, and related documents should be organized. We suggest regularly deploying quality-improvement techniques to improve performance and service delivery.
