2. Bioinformatic study of the active compound of morin in mulberry (Morus alba) as breast anticancer.

Abstract

Morus alba extract was reported in vitro to have anticancer activity on several cancer cells, including breast cancer cells. However, few studies have examined the mechanisms by which morin can inhibit the growth of breast cancer cells. This study aims to identify potential morin targets and investigate the interactions between morin and its protein targets. Data were searched from PubMed, STITCH, STRING, and PDB. Genes involved in breast cancer were compared to the data from STITCH and STRING. The top 10 hub genes' interactions were observed using Cytoscape and STRING. Molecular docking was employed to examine the interaction between morin and protein targets. Bioinformatic analysis showed that potential protein targets were AKT1, MAPK1, and MAPK3. Docking simulation showed that MAPK3 potentially be a morin target because it has lower bond energy than the native ligand and neratinib, with bond energy -9; -8.3; and -2.8 kcal/mol, respectively. Morin binds to the amino acid residues Ser170, Asn171, and Cys183 on the active site of MAPK3. Morin has the potential to inhibit cancer cell growth by targeting MAPK3. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Kulit manggis (KM) (Garcinia mangostana L.) diketahui memiliki kemampuan antibakteri Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui adanya kandungan polifenol dan flavonoid pada kulit manggis (Garcinia mangostana L.) dan mengetahui kemampuan antibakteri. Ekstraksi dilakukan dengan metode maserasi selama 72 jam menggunakan pelarut etil asetat. Uji antibakteri ekstrak etil asetat kulit manggis terhadap Staphyloccocus epidermidis dilakukan dengan metode difusi cakram Kirby Bauer. Variasi konsentrasi ekstrak yang digunakan yaitu 4%, 6%, 8%, dan 10% dengan kontrol positif klindamisin, kontrol negatif akuades. Ekstrak etil asetat G. mangostana L. mengandung polifenol dan flavonoid. Diameter zona hambat rata-rata untuk konsentrasi 4%, 6%, 8%, dan 10% secara berurutan yaitu 12 mm; 12 mm; 12,5 mm; 13,5 mm. Nilai tersebut berbeda signifikan dengan kontrol negatif yang tidak menghambat pertumbuhan Staphyloccocus epidermidis.

Abstract

Calophyllum soulattri (Sulatri), a plant from Clusiaceae family, has been empirically used as traditional medicine. In the present study, C. soulattri stem bark extract and fractions were evaluated for their toxicity against MCF-7 breast cancer cells. The chemical contents of the extract and fractions were analyzed using =liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). The results showed that methanol extract and n-hexane fractions had a strong cytotoxic activity with IC50 values of 93.6 and 36 µg/mL, respectively. Meanwhile, as the positive control, ethyl acetate and cisplatin fractions have IC50 values of 233 and 16.2 µg/mL, respectively. The LC-MS/MS analysis showed that the extract and fractions contained polyporusterone A, poricoic acid D, polyporusterone F, esculentagenin, and 1-acetyl-3-(methoxy-carbonyl)-_-carboline. Therefore, C. soulattri stem bark extract and fractions have potential activity as an anticancer agent that can inhibit MCF-7 breast cancer cell growth. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

15. Phytochemical Screening and Antibacterial Activity of Ethanolic Extract of Syzygium samarangense Leaves

Abstract

The ethanolic extracts of S. samarangense leaves were examined for antibacterial activity in vitro using broth microdillution method. The extracts showed effective against Bacillus cereus, Salmonella enterica with MIC (minimum inhibition concentration) value 78 µg/ml and against multi strains of Escherichia coli, Enterobacter aerogenes, Kocuria rhizophila with MIC value 2500 µg/mL, 2500 µg/mL and 156 µg/mL. Phytochemical screening of S. samarangense was observed for the presence of tannins, alkaloids, flavonoids, and terpenoids.
