2. Multi‐biomarker panel prediction model for diagnosis of pancreatic cancer.

Abstract

Background/Purpose: The current study aimed to develop a prediction model using a multi‐marker panel as a diagnostic screening tool for pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma. Methods: Multi‐center cohort of 1991 blood samples were collected from January 2011 to September 2019, of which 609 were normal, 145 were other cancer (colorectal, thyroid, and breast cancer), 314 were pancreatic benign disease, and 923 were pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma. The automated multi‐biomarker Enzyme‐Linked Immunosorbent Assay kit was developed using three potential biomarkers: LRG1, TTR, and CA 19‐9. Using a logistic regression model on a training data set, the predicted values for pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma were obtained, and the result was classification into one of the three risk groups: low, intermediate, and high. The five covariates used to create the model were sex, age, and three biomarkers. Results: Participants were categorized into four groups as normal (n = 609), other cancer (n = 145), pancreatic benign disease (n = 314), and pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (n = 923). The normal, other cancer, and pancreatic benign disease groups were clubbed into the non‐pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma group (n = 1068). The positive and negative predictive value, sensitivity, and specificity were 94.12, 90.40, 93.81, and 90.86, respectively. Conclusions: This study demonstrates a significant diagnostic performance of the multi‐marker panel in distinguishing pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma from normal and benign pancreatic disease states, as well as patients with other cancers. Abstract

A novel fluorinated organic–inorganic (O–I) hybrid sol—gel based material, named FAGPTi, is successfully synthesized and applied as a gate dielectric in flexible organic thin‐film transistors (OTFTs). The previously reported three‐arm‐shaped alkoxysilane‐functionalized amphiphilic polymer yields a stable O–I hybrid material consisting of uniformly dispersed nanoparticles in the sol‐state. Here, a fluorinated precursor is introduced into the system, making it possible to realize more stable spherical composites. This results in long‐term colloidal stability (≈1.5 years) because composite growth is strongly inhibited by the presence of fluorine groups with intrinsically strong repulsive forces. Additionally, the FAGPTi film is easily deposited via thermally annealed sol–gel reactions; the films can be successfully fabricated through the printing method, and exhibit excellent flexibility and enhanced insulating properties compared to existing materials. OTFTs with FAGPTi layers show highly stable driving characteristics under severe bending conditions (1.9% strain). Integrated logic devices are also successfully operated with these OTFTs. Additionally, it can facilely be applied to amorphous indium‐gallium‐zinc‐oxide (a‐IGZO) TFT devices other than OTFT. Therefore, this synthetic strategy can provide useful insights into the production of functional O–I hybrid materials, enabling the efficient fabrication of electronic materials and devices exhibiting these properties. Abstract

This study was carried out to obtain the basic data for selecting the cultivatable bioenergy crops through application of solidified sewage sludge in reclaimed lands. The experimental plots consisted of the mixing with solidified sewage sludge plot (SS50), the covering with solidified sewage sludge plot (SS100), and the original reclaimed land plot (ORL) on reclaimed land for the intended landfill in Sudokwon Landfill Site Management Corporation (SLC). The growth of energy crops (Geodae-Uksae 1, Miscanthus sacchariflorus, and Phragmites australis) were investigated from May to October, 2010 in each experimental plot. The soil from ORL showed higher salinity with high contents of exchangeable cation than that of SS50 and SS100. Soil properties on reclaimed land used in this study must be improved by increasing the buffering capacity of saline with the treatment of solidified sewage sludge due to the fact that the contents of organic matter (OM) in both of SS50 and SS100 were higher than that of the ORL. Thus the growth of energy crops cultivated in the solidified sewage sludge plots were better than in ORL. Geodae-Uksae 1 which showed an excellent adaptability on reclaimed land treated with the solidified sewage sludge has considerably higher biomass than those of other energy crops (M. sacchariflorus and P. australis). This study suggested that Geodae-Uksae 1 is the most suitable biomass feedstock crop for bioenergy productions, and the solidified sewage sludge may be possible to utilize as a soil cover materials for cultivation of bioenergy crops in reclaimed land.
