Abstract

From 1999 to 2011, It is estimated that more than 1,000,000 cancer survivors in Korea and it was found that 1 per 45 persons in the total population was receiving cancer treatment or was surviving after cancer treatment (Jung et al 2014). As the number and survival period of cancer survivors increase, their late complications, Both of management of cancer as chronic diseases and prevention of secondary cancer have emerged as new health isssues, requiring the interest of medical professionals and development of medical policies. In this paper, the health issues from cancer survivors are reviewed, and clinical and policy measures are sought regarding the medical environment in Korea.

39. Cultural Exchange between Korea and China under the Cultural Policies of the Late 18th Century: Exploring the Friendship between Pak Chega (1750-1805?) and Luo Pin (1733-1799) through Their Poetry

Abstract

This thesis examines the rich cultural exchange between Korean and Chinese scholars during the late 18th century. It focusses on the friendship that developed between two prominent figures in the cultural scene of the time—the Korean diplomat and scholar, Pak Chega (1750-1805?), and the Chinese artist, Luo Pin (1733-1799). It argues that their personal connections, while initially facilitated through official diplomatic relations between Korea and China, ironically resulted in nurturing forms of cultural production that ran counter to their national leaders’ conservative cultural policies. To demonstrate this argument, this thesis explores the political and cultural contexts of Chosŏn Korea and Qing China under the respective reigns of King Chŏngjo and Emperor Qianlong. Both rulers promoted conservative views of textual and art production, and yet the diplomatic relations between their two countries had the unforeseen consequence of furthering avant-garde rather than orthodox cultural forms as friendships were forged through intellectual and creative bonds between individual scholars that went beyond the controls of government. Ultimately, the diplomatic and cultural activities sponsored by the Chosŏn and Qing governments enabled cultural exchanges and scholarly interactions that nurtured cultural trends in literary content and artistic style that ran counter to their official policies. The thesis draws its evidence from poetry, prose, and paintings produced by Pak and Luo and their network of literary and artistic friends and from the activities occurring in key sites of cultural production in both countries—the Kyujanggak (Royal Library), in Korea, and the bookstores in Liulichang and artistic community in Yangzhou, in China.

Abstract

In this study, a new sI–sII dual hydrate former [chlorodifluoromethane (CHClF2); an important greenhouse gas with a global warming potential of 1810], which forms sI hydrate by itself and forms sII hydrate in the presence of external help guests such as CH4 and N2, was introduced and closely investigated for its potential significance in gas hydrate-based gas separation. The phase equilibria of CHClF2 hydrate, binary CHClF2 (5%) + N2 (95%) hydrate, and binary CHClF2 (5%) + CH4 (95%) hydrate were measured to examine the formation conditions and thermodynamic stability regions of CHClF2 + external guest hydrates. Nuclear magnetic resonance and in situ Raman spectroscopic results confirmed the formation of sII hydrates for CHClF2 + external guest (N2 or CH4) mixtures. Powder X-ray diffraction patterns clearly demonstrated a structural transition of sI to sII hydrates and a preferential incorporation of CHClF2 molecules in the hydrate phase when external guests (N2 or CH4) were involved in CHClF2 hydrate formation. The measured dissociation enthalpy values of CHClF2 hydrate, binary CHClF2 (5%) + N2 (95%) hydrate, and binary CHClF2 (5%) + CH4 (95%) hydrate using a high-pressure micro-differential scanning calorimeter also indicated preferential CHClF2 enclathration. The experimental results provide new insights into the thermodynamic and structural features of the CHClF2 (sI–sII dual hydrate former) + external guest hydrates for understanding and designing the hydrate-based CHClF2 separation process.
