Non-surgical intervention is recommended, considering the risks and benefits for the affected age group, as well as the characteristics of the disease. However, to date, no studies have compared various non-surgical interventions to ascertain the appropriate first-line non-surgical treatment for LSS. Therefore, the objective of this study will be to assess the efficacy of pharmacopuncture as a non-surgical, conservative treatment for LSS.Patients and Methods: A multi-centered, pragmatic, parallel-group study will be conducted. In total, 98 patients will be recruited at seven institutes; recruitment began in May 2022. After two treatment sessions per week over a period of 12 weeks, follow-up assessments will be held at weeks 13, 25, and 53.Results: The efficacy of pharmacopuncture and conservative care will be pragmatically compared in patients radiologically diagnosed with LSS. Pain severity will be measured using the numeric rating scale and visual analog scale. Walking distance will also be evaluated. Patient-centered evaluations will include the Zurich Claudication Questionnaire, Short-Form 12 for Health-Related Quality of Life, EuroQoL 5 Dimension 5 Levels, and Patient Global Impression of Change.Conclusion: The results of this study will confirm the efficacy of pharmacopuncture in comparison to conventional non-surgical treatment and will thus facilitate the prioritization of patient-centered interventions for LSS.Trial registration: This study was registered at Clinicaltrials.gov (registration identifier: NCT05242497) and CRiS (registration identifier: KCT0007145).Keywords: LSS, constriction, non-surgical intervention, acupuncture, pragmatic clinical trial, protocol

Case reports have indicated that Korean medicine (KM) treatments are effective in improving CM-associated symptoms. We investigated the effectiveness of non-surgical KM treatment of CM patients through a retrospective chart review and follow-up survey.Patients and Methods: We retrospectively analyzed the medical records and surveyed follow-up data of CM patients with neurological symptoms admitted to KM hospitals between January 2011 and January 2018. The admission and discharge assessments included the numeric rating scale (NRS) for neck and arm pain, neck disability index (NDI), and 5-level EuroQol 5-dimension (EQ-5D-5L). A follow-up survey was conducted about whether surgery was subsequently performed or recommended, symptom recurrence, discomfort in daily living, current treatment, as well as NRS, NDI, EQ-5D-5L, and patient global impression of change (PGIC) scores.Results: The NRS for neck pain decreased from 4.88 ± 2.03 (95% CI: 4.23‒5.52) at admission to 3.23 ± 1.64 (95% CI: 2.70‒3.75) at discharge and 2.24 ± 1.84 (95% CI: 1.43‒3.05) at follow-up. The NRS for radiating arm pain decreased from 5.42 ± 1.55 (95% CI: 4.93‒5.92) to 3.77 ± 1.54 (95% CI: 3.28‒4.27) at discharge and 2.43 ± 1.60 (95% CI: 1.72‒3.13) at follow-up. The NDI decreased significantly from 36.24 ± 18.79 (95% CI: 30.24‒42.24) at admission to 30.89 ± 15.54 (95% CI: 25.93‒35.86) at discharge and 13.35 ± 11.95 (95% CI: 8.08‒18.63) at follow-up. The EQ-5D score improved significantly from 0.70 ± 0.21 (95% CI: 0.63‒0.77) to 0.78 ± 0.17 (95% CI: 0.73‒0.84) at discharge and 0.84 ± 0.08 (95% CI: 0.80‒0.88) at follow-up. At the follow-up, four patients experienced persistent pain and were undergoing treatment (19.1%), while 20 patients (95.8%) reported symptom improvement.Conclusion: From a long-term perspective, integrative KM treatment may help to reduce pain and improve function, and improve quality of life of CM patients.Keywords: cervical myelopathy, Korean medicine, acupuncture, musculoskeletal manipulations, pharmacopuncture, Shinbaro

Light touch is the combination of cutaneous and kinesthetic inputs. The literature suggests that light touch compensates for a reduced amount of center of pressure information in older peoples, blind subjects and patients with neurological disorder. This study investigated the effects of light touch applied to an external bar, on the postural sway in individuals with hemiparetic stroke. We used a cross sectional study, fifteen individuals with stroke and 15 healthy age-matched adults stood as still as possible on a force plate. Experimental trials (duration, 30 s) included two visual conditions (open eyes and closed eyes), two somatosensory conditions (no touch and light touch) and two support surface conditions (firm and foam surfaces). The area of center of pressure (COP) and the mean velocity of COP in the medio-lateral and anterior-posterior directions were assessed. For both groups, COP velocity and area decreased with light touch regardless of the visual or surface conditions. The effects of light touch were similar in both groups. In addition, results show that the effectiveness of light touch in reducing postural sway was greater on a foam surface than on a firm surface. Our findings indicate that light touch could be beneficial in postural control for individuals with hemi-paretic stroke

A microarray is a principal technology in molecular biology. It generates thousands of expressions of genotypes at once. Typically, a microarray experiment contains many kinds of information, such as gene names, sequences, expression profiles, scanned images, and annotation. So, the organization and analysis of vast amounts of data are required. Microarray LIMS (Laboratory Information Management System) provides data management, search, and basic analysis. Recently, microarray joint researches, such as the skeletal system disease and anti-cancer medicine have been widely conducted. This research requires data sharing among laboratories within the joint research group. In this paper, we introduce a web based microarray LIMS, SMILE (Small and solid MIcroarray Lims for Experimenters), especially for shared data management. The data sharing function of SMILE is based on Friend-to-Friend (F2F), which is based on anonymous P2P (Peer-to-Peer), in which people connect directly with their “friends”. It only allows its friends to exchange data directly using IP addresses or digital signatures you trust. In SMILE, there are two types of friends: “service provider”, which provides data, and “client”, which is provided with data. So, the service provider provides shared data only to its clients. SMILE provides useful functions for microarray experiments, such as variant data management, image analysis, normalization, system management, project schedule management, and shared data management. Moreover, it connections with two systems: ArrayMall for analyzing microarray images and GENAW for constructing a genetic network. SMILE is available on http://neobio.cs.pusan.ac.kr:8080/smile.

Abstract Background Various treatments for unicameral bone cyst have been proposed. Recent concern focuses on the effectiveness of closed methods. This study evaluated the effectiveness of demineralized bone matrix as a graft material after intramedullary decompression for the treatment of unicameral bone cysts. Methods Between October 2008 and June 2010, twenty-five patients with a unicameral bone cyst were treated with intramedullary decompression followed by grafting of demineralized bone matrix. There were 21 males and 4 female patients with mean age of 11.1 years (range, 3–19 years). The proximal metaphysis of the humerus was affected in 12 patients, the proximal femur in five, the calcaneum in three, the distal femur in two, the tibia in two, and the radius in one. There were 17 active cysts and 8 latent cysts. Radiologic change was evaluated according to a modified Neer classification. Time to healing was defined as the period required achieving cortical thickening on the anteroposterior and lateral plain radiographs, as well as consolidation of the cyst. The patients were followed up for mean period of 23.9 months (range, 15–36 months). Results Nineteen of 25 cysts had completely consolidated after a single procedure. The mean time to healing was 6.6 months (range, 3–12 months). Four had incomplete healing radiographically but had no clinical symptom with enough cortical thickness to prevent fracture. None of these four cysts needed a second intervention until the last follow-up. Two of 25 patients required a second intervention because of cyst recurrence. All of the two had a radiographical healing of cyst after mean of 10 additional months of follow-up. Conclusions A minimal invasive technique including the injection of DBM could serve as an excellent treatment method for unicameral bone cysts.

Microarray study enables us to obtain hundreds of thousands of expressions of genes or genotypes at once, and it is an indispensable technology for genome research. The first step is the analysis of scanned microarray images. This is the most important procedure for obtaining biologically reliable data. Currently most microarray image processing systems require burdensome manual block/spot indexing work. Since the amount of experimental data is increasing very quickly, automated microarray image analysis software becomes important. In this paper, we propose two automated methods for analyzing microarray images. First, we propose the extended -regular sequence to index blocks and spots, which enables a novel automatic gridding procedure. Second, we provide a methodology, hierarchical metagrid alignment, to allow reliable and efficient batch processing for a set of microarray images. Experimental results show that the proposed methods are more reliable and convenient than the commercial tools.

Fluorosilicone was combined with aluminum trihydrate (ATH) to induce synergistic flame-retardant and thermal-resistant properties. The surface of ATH was modified with four different silane coupling agents. The flammability and mechanical properties of the fluorosilicone/ATH composites were assessed using an UL94 vertical test and a die shear strength test. The change in shear strength was investigated under aging for 1000 h at -55 °C and 150 °C. Pure fluorosilicone had inherent fire resistance and thus achieved a V-0 rating even at 20 wt.% ATH loading. Upon addition of ATH treated with 3-glycidoxypropyl trimethoxysilane, the composites exhibited the highest shear strength of 3.9 MPa at 23 °C because of the additional crosslinking reaction of fluorosilicone resin with the epoxide functional group of the coupling agent. Regardless of the types of coupling agents, the composites exhibited similar flame retardancy at the same ATH content, with a slight reduction in shear strength at 180 °C and 250 °C. The shear strength of the adhesives gradually decreased with aging time at -55 °C, but increased noticeably from 3.9 MPa to 11.5 MPa when aged at 150 °C due to the occurrence of the additional crosslinking reaction of fluorosilicone.

Background: Although several studies have reported the effectiveness of acupuncture treatment for adhesive capsulitis (AC), research on pharmacopuncture therapy for AC remains limited. We compared the effectiveness and safety of pharmacopuncture and physiotherapy for AC., Methods: This pragmatic, randomized, controlled, parallel-group pilot study enrolled patients with limitations of shoulder movement and a numeric rating scale (NRS) score for shoulder pain ≥5 randomized (1:1) to the pharmacopuncture therapy (PPT) and physiotherapy (PT) groups. Treatment sessions were administered twice weekly for 6 weeks, and the participants were followed up for 13 weeks after randomization. The primary outcome was the NRS score for shoulder pain, and the secondary outcomes were the visual analog scale (VAS), Shoulder Pain and Disability Index (SPADI), range of motion (ROM), patient global impression of change (PGIC), EuroQol 5-Dimension 5-Level (EQ-5D-5L), and Short Form 12 Health Survey (SF-12) scores. The intention-to-treat (ITT) analysis was set as the primary analysis., Results: Among 50 participants, for the primary endpoint (week 7) the PPT group showed a significantly superior improvement in NRS, VAS, SPADI, ROM for flexion, ROM for abduction, and EQ-5D-5L scores. Background: Tandem high-dose chemotherapy and autologous stem cell transplantation (HDCT/auto-SCT) and incorporation of 131 I-metaiodobenzylguanidine ( 131 I-MIBG) treatment have shown positive outcomes in high-risk neuroblastoma. However, more optimized treatment strategies are still needed., Procedure: The NB-2014 study was a nonrandomized, prospective trial that examined survival outcomes in metastatic high-risk neuroblastoma patients using response-adapted consolidation therapy. We used post-induction residual 123 I-MIBG status at metastatic sites as a treatment response marker. Patients achieving complete resolution of MIBG uptake at metastatic sites underwent a reduced first HDCT/auto-SCT with a 20% dose reduction in HDCT. After the first HDCT/auto-SCT, patients with remaining MIBG uptake received dose-escalated (18 mCi/kg) 131 I-MIBG treatment. In contrast, those with complete resolution of MIBG at metastatic sites received a standard dose (12 mCi/kg) of 131 I-MIBG. We compared survival and toxicity outcomes with a historical control group from the NB-2009., Results: Of 65 patients treated, 63% achieved complete resolution of MIBG uptake at metastatic sites following induction chemotherapy, while 29% of patients still had MIBG uptake at metastatic sites after the first HDCT/auto-SCT. The 3-year event-free survival (EFS) and overall survival (OS) rates were 68.2% ± 6.0% and 86.5% ± 4.5%, respectively. Compared to NB-2009, EFS was similar (p = .855); however, NB-2014 had a higher OS (p = .031), a lower cumulative incidence of treatment-related mortality (p = .036), and fewer acute and late toxicities., Conclusions: Our results suggest that response-adaptive consolidation therapy based on chemotherapy response at metastatic sites facilitates better treatment tailoring, and appears promising for patients with metastatic high-risk neuroblastoma., (© 2024 The Author(s). Background: Although two recent phase III randomized controlled trials showed survival benefits of undergoing secondary cytoreductive surgery for an initial relapse of ovarian cancer, patients who received a poly-ADP ribose polymerase inhibitor (PARPi) as the first-line maintenance treatment, which is currently the standard treatment for advanced ovarian cancer, were not included in those trials. Therefore, determining an optimal treatment strategy, including secondary cytoreductive surgery, in patients whose cancer progresses even with PARPi treatment, is needed., Primary Objective: To determine whether secondary cytoreductive surgery is beneficial in patients who have progressed on PARPi maintenance treatment., Study Hypothesis: Secondary cytoreductive surgery followed by chemotherapy is superior to chemotherapy alone for patients who have progressed on PARPi maintenance treatment., Trial Design: The SOCCER-P study is a multicenter randomized phase II clinical trial. Patients who meet the eligibility criteria will be randomized to either undergo secondary cytoreductive surgery and subsequent platinum-based chemotherapy plus or minus bevacizumab, or to receive platinum-based chemotherapy plus or minus bevacizumab alone. Patients randomly allocated to the surgery group will undergo secondary cytoreductive surgery followed by six cycles of a physician's choice of platinum-based chemotherapy once they have recovered from surgery., Major Inclusion/exclusion Criteria: The major inclusion criteria are as follows: first recurrence of disease with treatment-free interval from last platinum dose (TFIp) ≥6 months and progression during PARPi maintenance or treatment-free interval from last PARPi therapy (TFI PARPi ) <3 months. Height is known to be a classically heritable trait controlled by complex polygenic factors. Numerous height-associated genetic variants across the genome have been identified so far. It is also a representative of externally visible characteristics (EVC) for predicting appearance in forensic science. When biological evidence at a crime scene is deficient in identifying an individual, the examination of forensic DNA phenotyping using some genetic variants could be considered. In this study, we aimed to predict 'height', a representative forensic phenotype, by using a small number of genetic variants when short tandem repeat (STR) analysis is hard with insufficient biological samples. Our results not only replicated previous genetic signals but also indicated an upward trend in polygenic score (PGS) with increasing height in the validation and replication stages for both genders. These results demonstrate that the established SNP sets in this study could be used for height estimation in the Korean population. Specifically, since the PGS model constructed in this study targets only a small number of SNPs, it contributes to enabling forensic DNA phenotyping even at crime scenes with a minimal amount of biological evidence. To the best of our knowledge, this was the first study to evaluate a PGS model for height estimation in the Korean population using GWAS signals. Background: This study investigated the effectiveness and safety of pharmacopuncture for pain relief and functional improvement in patients with traffic accident (TA)-induced acute tension headaches. Methods: The study employed a parallel, single-centered, pragmatic, randomized controlled trial design. Eighty patients complaining of acute tension headaches were randomized into the integrative Korean medicine treatment (IKM treatment) group and the pharmacopuncture group on suboccipital muscles (suboccipital muscles pharmacopuncture + IKM treatment), with 40 participants assigned to each group. The patients in the pharmacopuncture group underwent pharmacopuncture as an add-on therapy, consisting of three sessions. Both groups were reassessed 2 months post-intervention. To assess the outcomes, the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) for Headache, NRS for Neck Pain, Headache Disability Index, Headache Impact Test-6, EuroQol 5-Dimension, and Patient Global Impression of Change were used. Results: The improvement in the outcomes of the pharmacopuncture group was significantly greater than that of the comparison group on day 4 of hospitalization in terms of pain (difference in NRS of headache -2.59, 95% CI -3.06 to -2.12; NRS of Neck pain -1.05, 95% CI -1.50 to -0.59) and function (difference in HDI -24.78, 95% CI, -31.79 to -17.76; HIT-6 -6.13, 95% CI, -9.47 to -2.78). Additionally, in 2 months of follow-up, the recovery rate of headache was significantly higher in the pharmacopuncture group than in the comparison group. Conclusions: The pharmacopuncture group demonstrated superior outcomes in symptom improvement than the comparison group did, providing insights into novel and useful applications of pharmacopuncture in the clinical practice of Korean medicine.

For antinuclear antibody (ANA) screening, the gold standard method is an indirect immunofluorescence assay (IIFA) using HEp-2 cells, and a serial dilution test is needed to determine the endpoint titer. We aimed to evaluate the accuracy of the estimated endpoint titer (eEPT) by the NOVA View system, by comparing it with the EPT by the serial dilution method (dEPT). The endpoint titers of a total of 1518 ANA positive cases with five major patterns including speckled, homogeneous, centromere, nucleolar, and nuclear dots patterns were determined using both the estimation function and the serial dilution method by the NOVA View system. A significant correlation between the light intensity unit (LIU) values and dEPTs was identified in all five patterns with high ρ values, ranging from 0.666 to 0.832. However, the overall exact match rate between dEPT and eEPT was 22.1% (336/1518), with the ±one-titer match rate being highest in the centromere pattern (62.8%, 81/129), and lowest in the homogeneous pattern (37.6%, 200/532). This suggests that while LIU values correlate well with dEPT, there are discrepancies in numerical agreement. Most cases that did not show an exact match, showed one-to-three-titer overestimations by eEPT. Therefore, adjusting eEPT downward significantly improved the concordance rates with dEPTs. Further investigation for an appropriate cutoff of LIU values for determining eEPT should be performed for clinical application and contribution to the standardization of the ANA titer.

Electrocardiogram (ECG) changes after primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) in ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) patients are associated with prognosis. This study investigated the feasibility of predicting left ventricular (LV) dysfunction in STEMI patients using an artificial intelligence (AI)-enabled ECG algorithm developed to diagnose STEMI. Serial ECGs from 637 STEMI patients were analyzed with the AI algorithm, which quantified the probability of STEMI at various time points. The time points included pre-PCI, immediately post-PCI, 6 h post-PCI, 24 h post-PCI, at discharge, and one-month post-PCI. The prevalence of LV dysfunction was significantly associated with the AI-derived probability index. A high probability index was an independent predictor of LV dysfunction, with higher cardiac death and heart failure hospitalization rates observed in patients with higher indices. The study demonstrates that the AI-enabled ECG index effectively quantifies ECG changes post-PCI and serves as a digital biomarker capable of predicting post-STEMI LV dysfunction, heart failure, and mortality. These findings suggest that AI-enabled ECG analysis can be a valuable tool in the early identification of high-risk patients, enabling timely and targeted interventions to improve clinical outcomes in STEMI patients., (© 2024. Purpose: Hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) has been an important method of treatment in the advance of pediatric acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). The indications for HSCT are evolving and require updated establishment. In this study, we aimed to investigate the efficacy of HSCT on the treatment outcome of pediatric ALL, considering the indications for HSCT and subgroups., Materials and Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on ALL patients diagnosed and treated at a single center. Risk groups were categorized based on age at diagnosis, initial white blood cell count, disease lineage (B/T), and cytogenetic study results. Data on the patients' disease status at HSCT and indications of HSCT were collected. Indications for HSCT were categorized as upfront HSCT at 1st complete remission, relapse, and refractory disease., Results: Among the 549 screened patients, a total of 418 patients were included in the study; B-ALL (n=379) and T-ALL (n=39). HSCT was conducted on a total of 106 patients (25.4%), with a higher frequency as upfront HSCT in higher risk groups and specific cytogenetics. The overall survival (OS) was significantly better when done upfront than in relapsed or refractory state in T-ALL patients (p=0.0016). The KMT2A-rearranged ALL patients showed superior event-free survival (p=0.0023) and OS (p=0.0221) when HSCT was done as upfront treatment., Conclusion: HSCT had a substantial positive effect in a specific subset of pediatric ALL. In particular, frontline HSCT for T-ALL and KMT2A-rearranged ALL offered a better prognosis than when HSCT was conducted in a relapsed or refractory setting.

Objective: This study aimed to determine the safety and efficacy of the RKP00156 vaginal tablet, a CDK9 inhibitor, in healthy women and patients with cervical intraepithelial neoplasia grade 2 (CIN2)., Methods: We conducted a phase 1/2a clinical trial of RKP00156. In step 1, RKP00156 at a dose of 10, 25, or 50 mg or a placebo tablet was administered transvaginally to 24 healthy women. In step 2, RKP00156 at a dose of 10, 25, or 50 mg or a placebo tablet was administered once daily for 4 weeks in 62 patients with CIN2. The primary endpoints of this trial were the safety of RKP00156 and the change in the human papillomavirus (HPV) viral load., Results: A total of 86 patients were enrolled and randomized. RKP00156 administration did not cause serious drug-associated adverse events (AEs). Although no significant difference in the HPV viral load was found between the experimental and placebo groups, a reduction in the HPV viral load was observed in the 25 mg-dose group (-98.61%; 95% confidence interval=-99.83%, 4.52%; p=0.046) after treatment completion in patients with a high HPV viral load, despite a lack of statistical power. No differences in histologic regression and HPV clearance were observed., Conclusion: The safety of RKP00156 was proved with no serious AEs. A consensus regarding subsequent therapeutic strategies for patients with platinum- and poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase inhibitor (PARPi)-resistant ovarian cancer is lacking. These patients typically receive non-platinum-based chemotherapy; however, survival outcomes remain poor. Compared with chemotherapy alone, combination therapy with novel target agents can provide additional benefits to these patients. Oregovomab, an investigational murine monoclonal antibody against CA-125, has shown promising efficacy in a phase II study in patients with recurrent ovarian cancer. Herein, we described the rationale and design of OPERA/KGOG 3065/APGOT-OV6, a multicenter, investigator-initiated, two-cohort, single-arm phase II trial, aimed at examining the efficacy of oregovomab plus non-platinum-based chemotherapy in patients with PARPi/platinum-resistant ovarian cancer. Graphite tattoos are rarely reported because they are mainly caused by an accidental injury or habits during childhood that cause a pencil to penetrate the oral mucosa. Unlike other pigmentations, it stains layers that are deeper than the subepithelial and mucosal layers, and in most cases, it takes the form of a grayish black macule. This case report describes depigmentation with the denudation technique that was followed by a novel approach of using platelet-rich fibrin to cover exposed bone. A 41-year-old male patient presented with an aesthetic complaint from a grayish black staining on the labial gingiva near the maxillary central and lateral incisors. The lesion was diagnosed as a graphite tattoo due to the patient's history of sticking his gum with pencils when he was young. The entire pigmented gingiva was surgically removed and covered with two layers of PRF membrane to protect the exposed bone surface and provide an extracellular matrix for migration of gingival fibroblasts. Healing patterns were observed at 1, 2, 4, and 8 weeks, and satisfactory clinical and aesthetic results were obtained. Background and Purpose: This parallel, single-center, pragmatic, randomized controlled study aimed to investigate the effectiveness and safety of motion style acupuncture treatment (MSAT; a combination of acupuncture and Doin therapy) to reduce pain and improve the functional disability of patients with acute low back pain (aLBP) due to road traffic accidents., Materials and Methods: Ninety-six patients with aLBP admitted to the Haeundae Jaseng Hospital of Korean Medicine in South Korea due to traffic accidents were treated with integrative Korean medicine (IKM) with additional 3-day MSAT sessions during hospitalization (MSAT group, 48 patients) or without (control group, 48 patients), and followed up for 90 days., Results: The mean numeric rating scale (NRS) scores of low back pain (LBP) of the MSAT and control groups were both 6.7 (95% confidence interval [CI]: 6.3, 7.1) at baseline. After completing the third round of all applicable treatment sessions (the primary endpoint in this study), the mean NRS scores of the MSAT and control groups were 3.76 (95% CI: 3.54, 3.99) and 5.32 (95% CI: 5.09, 5.55), respectively. Background: East Asians (EAs), compared to white Caucasians (W), have a lower risk of ischemic heart disease and a higher risk of bleeding with antithrombotic medications. The underlying mechanisms are incompletely understood., Objectives: We sought to compare thrombotic profiles of EA and W patients with myocardial infarction (MI) and relate these to cardiovascular outcomes., Methods: In a prospective study in the United Kingdom and Korea, blood samples from patients ( n  = 515) with ST- or non-ST-elevation MI (STEMI and NSTEMI) were assessed using the Global Thrombosis Test, measuring thrombotic occlusion (OT) and endogenous fibrinolysis (lysis time [LT]). Patients were followed for 1 year for major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) and bleeding., Results: EA patients showed reduced OT (longer OT) compared to W (646 seconds [470-818] vs. 436 seconds [320-580], p  < 0.001), with similar LT. In STEMI, OT (588 seconds [440-759] vs. 361 seconds [274-462], p  < 0.001) and LT (1,854 seconds [1,389-2,729] vs. 1,338 seconds [1,104-1,788], p  < 0.001) were longer in EA than W. In NSTEMI, OT was longer (OT: 734 seconds [541-866] vs. 580 seconds [474-712], p  < 0.001) and LT shorter (1519 seconds [1,058-2,508] vs. 1,898 seconds [1,614-2,806], p  = 0.004) in EA than W patients. MACE was more frequent in W than EA (6.3 vs. 1.9%, p  = 0.014) and bleeding infrequent. Ovarian cancer, notable for its severe prognosis among gynecologic cancers, has seen substantial progress in treatment approaches recently. Enhanced protocols in chemotherapy and the introduction of poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase (PARP) inhibitors for maintenance therapy have markedly improved outcomes for patients with specific genetic profiles, such as those positive for BRCA mutations or exhibiting homologous recombination deficiency (HRD). Additionally, the method of intraperitoneal chemotherapy administration has emerged as a valuable alternative to traditional transvenous routes, showing promise for wider clinical adoption. The field of surgery has also evolved, with increasing exploration into the benefits and feasibility of laparoscopic methods over more invasive traditional surgeries, aiming for complete tumor removal but with reduced patient impact. The hereditary nature of ovarian cancer underscores the importance of genetic testing, which has become integral in tailoring treatment strategies, particularly in determining suitability for PARP inhibitors. The formation of the East Asian Gynecologic Oncology Trial Group (EAGOT) aims to optimize treatment across Japan, Korea, China, and Taiwan. The ovarian cancer committee of EAGOT shared the current policies, focusing on 5 topics: 1) strategies for maintenance therapy after initial surgery and chemotherapy, 2) drug regimens for platinum-sensitive and platinum-resistant recurrence, 3) intraperitoneal chemotherapy, 4) laparoscopic surgery as an alternative to laparotomy, and 5) current status of genetic testing (BRCA, HRD, and panel tests) for ovarian cancer and its prospects. Background: This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of neo-mannosyl human serum albumin-indocyanine green (MSA-ICG) for detecting metastatic lymph node (LN) and mapping sentinel lymph node (SLN) using mouse footpad uterine tumor models. Additionally, the authors assessed the feasibility of MSA-ICG in SLN mapping in rabbit uterine cancer models., Materials and Methods: The authors compared the LN targeting ability of MSA-ICG with ICG. Six mouse footpad tumor models and two normal mice were each assigned to MSA-ICG and ICG, respectively. After the assigned tracers were injected, fluorescence images were taken, and the authors compared the signal-to-background ratio (SBR) of the tracers. A SLN biopsy was performed to confirm LN metastasis status and CD206 expression level. Finally, an intraoperative SLN biopsy was performed in rabbit uterine cancer models using MSA-ICG., Results: The authors detected 14 groin LNs out of 16 in the MSA-ICG and ICG groups. The SBR of the MSA-ICG group was significantly higher than that of the ICG group. The metastatic LN subgroup of MSA-ICG showed a significantly higher SBR than that of ICG. CD206 was expressed at a high level in metastatic LN, and the signal intensity difference increased as the CD206 expression level increased. SLN mapping was successfully performed in two of the three rabbit uterine cancer models., Conclusions: MSA-ICG was able to distinguish metastatic LN for an extended period due to its specific tumor-associated macrophage-targeting property. Therefore, it may be a more distinguishable tracer for identifying metastatic LNs and SLNs during uterine cancer surgery. Background: This study aimed to evaluate the association between the dietary intake of vitamin B complex (thiamine, riboflavin, and niacin) and cervical cancer in Korea., Methods: The data from the Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES) from 2010 to 2021 were analyzed, which included 28,306 participants who were categorized into non-cervical cancer and cervical cancer groups. The following dietary intake threshold levels of thiamine, riboflavin, and niacin were identified based on the recommended daily allowances (RDAs): thiamine, 1.1 mg/day; riboflavin, 1.2 mg/day; and niacin, 14 mg/day., Results: Among 28,306 participants, 27,976 were in the non-cervical cancer group and 330 were in the cervical cancer group. Riboflavin intakes of more than 1.2 mg/day but less than 2.4 mg/day were associated with a significantly reduced risk of cervical cancer, whereas intakes of above 2.4 mg/day were not associated with cervical cancer. Thiamine and niacin intakes were not significantly related to the risk of cervical cancer., Conclusions: The results of this study suggest that an intake of riboflavin of 1.2-2.4 mg/day may contribute to a lower risk of cervical cancer.

Reports of implant fixtures dislocating into the maxillary sinus during sinus graft procedures are well-documented. However, cases of fixtures migrating into the sinus long after placement have yet to be reported. This case report details the surgical extraction of a displaced screw and cement-retained prosthesis, including a fixture and its abutment, from the maxillary sinus after a minimum of 5 years under functional load. The extracted implant was subsequently examined using scanning electron microscopy and energy-dispersive x-ray spectroscopy. We found that the migration commenced with peri-implantitis surrounding the implant, replacing the second molar. This was accompanied by a loss of cement from the crown on this implant and concurrent loosening of the abutment screw on the implant, replacing the first molar. We hypothesize that the inability of the bony tissue surrounding the second molar implant to withstand occlusal forces resulted in forming a bony sequestrum. This process ultimately precipitated the migration of the fixture, along with its abutment and adjacent necrotic bone, into the sinus cavity.

Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the incidence and risk factors for secondary malignant neoplasms (SMN) in pediatric solid tumors, focusing on the effects of tandem high-dose chemotherapy (HDCT)., Materials and Methods: Patients (aged < 19 years) diagnosed with or treated for pediatric solid tumors between 1994 and 2014 were retrospectively analyzed. The cumulative incidence of SMN was estimated using competing risk methods by considering death as a competing risk., Results: A total of 1,435 patients (413 with brain tumors and 1,022 with extracranial solid tumors) were enrolled. Seventy-one patients developed 74 SMNs, with a 10-year and 20-year cumulative incidence of 2.680±0.002% and 10.193±0.024%, respectively. The types of SMN included carcinoma in 28 (37.8%), sarcoma in 24 (32.4%), and hematologic malignancy in 15 (20.3%) cases. Osteosarcoma and thyroid carcinoma were the most frequently diagnosed tumors. Multivariate analysis showed that radiotherapy (RT) > 2, 340 cGy, and tandem HDCT were significant risk factors for SMN development. The SMN types varied according to the primary tumor type; carcinoma was the most frequent SMN in brain tumors and neuroblastoma, whereas hematologic malignancy and sarcomas developed more frequently in patients with sarcoma and retinoblastoma, respectively., Conclusion: The cumulative incidence of SMN in pediatric patients with solid tumors was considerably high, especially in patients who underwent tandem HDCT or in those who received RT > 2,340 cGy. Therefore, the treatment intensity should be optimized based on individual risk assessment and the long-term follow-up of pediatric cancer survivors.

The organization of interphase chromosomes in a number of species is starting to emerge thanks to advances in a variety of experimental techniques. However, much less is known about the dynamics, especially in the functional states of chromatin. Some experiments have shown that the motility of individual loci in human interphase chromosome decreases during transcription and increases upon inhibiting transcription. This is a counterintuitive finding because it is thought that the active mechanical force ( F ) on the order of ten piconewtons, generated by RNA polymerase II (RNAPII) that is presumably transmitted to the gene-rich region of the chromatin, would render it more open, thus enhancing the mobility. We developed a minimal active copolymer model for interphase chromosomes to investigate how F affects the dynamical properties of chromatin. The movements of the loci in the gene-rich region are suppressed in an intermediate range of F and are enhanced at small F values, which has also been observed in experiments. In the intermediate F , the bond length between consecutive loci increases, becoming commensurate with the distance at the minimum of the attractive interaction between nonbonded loci. This results in a transient disorder-to-order transition, leading to a decreased mobility during transcription. Strikingly, the F -dependent change in the locus dynamics preserves the organization of the chromosome at [Formula: see text]. Objective: We aimed to revalidate the chemotherapy response score (CRS) system as a prognostic factor for ovarian cancer patients with breast cancer gene ( BRCA ) mutations or those receiving frontline poly-ADP ribose polymerase (PARP) inhibitors or bevacizumab as maintenance therapy., Methods: A retrospective analysis was performed using medical records of patients with high-grade serous carcinoma who received neoadjuvant chemotherapy followed by interval debulking surgery between January 2007 and December 2021 at 5 tertiary medical institutions in South Korea. At each hospital, pathologists independently assessed each slide of omental tissues obtained from surgery using the CRS system. Progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) values were obtained using Kaplan-Meier analysis to evaluate the effect of BRCA mutation, maintenance therapy, and CRS on survival time., Results: Of 466 patients, BRCA mutations were detected in 156 (33.5%) and 131 (28.1%) were treated with maintenance therapy; 98 (21.0%) and 42 (9.0%) were treated with PARP inhibitors or bevacizumab, respectively. Patients with CRS3 had significantly longer PFS than those with CRS1 or 2 (24.7 vs. 16.8 months, p<0.001). However, there was no significant difference in PFS improvement between CRS3 patients and those with CRS1 or 2 with BRCA mutation (22.0 vs. 19.3 months, p=0.193). To predict the apparent total tract digestibility (ATTD) of crude protein (CP) in dogs we developed an in vitro system using an in vitro digestion method and a statistical analysis. The experimental diets used chicken meat powder as the protein source, with CP levels of 20% (22.01%, analyzed CP value as dry-based), 30% (31.35%, analyzed CP value as dry-based), and 40% (41.34%, analyzed CP value as dry-based). To simulate in vivo digestive processes a static in vitro digestion was performed in two steps; stomach and small intestine. To analyze ATTD the total fecal samples were collected in eight neutered beagle dogs during the experimental period. CP digestibility was calculated by measuring CP levels in dog food, in vitro undigested fraction, and dog feces. In result, CP digestibility at both in vivo and in vitro was increased with increasing dietary CP levels. To estimate in vivo digestibility the co-relation of in vivo ATTD and in vitro digestibility was investigated statistically and a regression equation was developed to predict the CP ATTD (% = 2.5405 × in vitro CP digestibility (%) + 151.8). The regression equation was evaluated its feasibility by using a commercial diet. The predicted CP digestibility which was calculated by the regression equation showed high index of similarity (100.16%) with that of in vivo in dogs. Background: The emergence of immune checkpoint inhibitors, a novel class of immunotherapy drugs, represents a major breakthrough in cancer immunotherapy, substantially improving patient survival post-treatment. Blocking programmed death-ligand 1 (PD-L1) and programmed death protein-1 (PD-1) has demonstrated promising clinical results in various human cancer types. The US FDA has recently permitted only monoclonal antibody (mAb)-based PD-L1 or PD-1 blockers. Although these antibodies exhibit high antitumor efficacy, their size- and affinity-induced side effects limit their applicability., Purpose: As small-molecule-based PD-1/PD-L1 blockers capable of reducing the side effects of antibody therapies are needed, this study focuses on exploring natural ingredient-based small molecules that can target hPD-L1/PD-1 using herbal medicines and their components., Methods: The antitumor potential of evening primrose (Oenothera biennis) root extract (EPRE), a globally utilized traditional herbal medicine, folk remedy, and functional food, was explored. A coculture system was established using human PD-L1-expressed murine MC38 cells (hPD-L1-MC38s) and CD8 + tumor-infiltrating T lymphocytes (CD8 + TILs) expressing humanized PD-1. The in vivo experiments utilized a colorectal cancer (CRC) C57BL/6 J mouse model bearing MC38 cells expressing humanized PD-L1 and PD-1 proteins., Results: EPRE and its active compound oenothein B effectively hindered the molecular interaction between hPD-L1 and hPD-1. EPRE stimulated tumor-specific T lymphocytes of a hPD-L1/PD-1 CRC mice. This action resulted in the elevated infiltration of cytotoxic CD8 + T lymphocytes and subsequent tumor growth reduction. Moreover, the combined therapy of oenothein B, a PD-1/PD-L1 blocker, and FOLFOX (5-fluorouracil plus oxaliplatin) cooperatively suppressed hPD-L1-MC38s growth in the ex vivo model through activated CD8 + TIL antitumor immune response. Oenothein B exhibited a high binding affinity for hPD-L1 and hPD-1. We believe that this study is the first to uncover the inhibitory effects of EPRE and its component, oenothein B, on PD-1/PD-L1 interactions., Conclusion: This study identified a promising small-molecule candidate from natural products that blocks the hPD-L1/PD-1 signaling pathway. In the 2023 series, we summarized the major clinical research advances in gynecologic oncology based on communications at the conference of Asian Society of Gynecologic Oncology Review Course. The review consisted of 1) Endometrial cancer: immune checkpoint inhibitor, antibody drug conjugates (ADCs), selective inhibitor of nuclear export, CDK4/6 inhibitors WEE1 inhibitor, poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase (PARP) inhibitors. 2) Cervical cancer: surgery in low-risk early-stage cervical cancer, therapy for locally advanced stage and advanced, metastatic, or recurrent setting; and 3) Ovarian cancer: immunotherapy, triplet therapies using immune checkpoint inhibitors along with antiangiogenic agents and PARP inhibitors, and ADCs. This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of the 2020 European Society of Gynecological Oncology/European Society for Radiotherapy and Oncology/European Society of Pathology (ESGO/ESTRO/ESP) guidelines for endometrial cancer (EC). Additionally, a novel risk category incorporating clinicopathological and molecular factors was introduced. The predictive value of this new category for recurrence and survival in Korean patients with EC was assessed, and comparisons were made with the 2013 and 2016 European Society of Medical Oncology (ESMO) risk classifications. Patients with EC were categorized into the POLE-mutated (POLEmut), mismatch repair-deficient (MMRd), p53-aberrant (P53abn), and nonspecific molecular profile (NSMP) subtypes. Recurrence, survival, and adjuvant therapy were assessed according to each classification. Notably, patients with the POLEmut subtype showed no relapse, while patients with the P53abn subtype exhibited higher recurrence (31.8%) and mortality rates (31.8%). Regarding adjuvant therapy, 33.3% of low-risk patients were overtreated according to the 2020 ESGO/ESTRO/ESP guidelines. Overall and progression-free survival differed significantly across molecular classifications, with the POLEmut subtype showing the best and the P53abn subtype showing the worst outcomes. The 2020 ESGO molecular classification system demonstrated practical utility and significantly influenced survival outcomes. Immunohistochemistry for TP53 and MMR, along with POLE sequencing, facilitated substantial patient reclassification, underscoring the clinical relevance of molecular risk categories in EC management.

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic immune-mediated inflammatory disease characterized by persistent inflammation and joint destruction. A lipid mediator (LM, namely, 17S-monohydroxy docosahexaenoic acid, resolvin D5, and protectin DX in a ratio of 3:47:50) produced by soybean lipoxygenase from DHA, exhibits anti-inflammatory activity. In this study, we determined the effect of LM on collagen antibody-induced arthritis (CAIA) in mice and receptor activator of nuclear factor-κB ligand (RANKL)-induced osteoclast formation in RAW264.7 cells. LM effectively downregulated the expression of tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase (TRAP) and cathepsin K, inhibited osteoclast formation, and suppressed the NF-κB signaling pathway in vitro. In vivo, LM at 10 μg/kg/day significantly decreased paw swelling and inhibited progression of arthritis in CAIA mice. Moreover, proinflammatory cytokine (tumor necrosis factor-α, interleukin (IL)-6, IL-1β, IL-17, and interferon-γ) levels in serum were decreased, whereas IL-10 levels were increased following LM treatment. Furthermore, LM alleviated joint inflammation, cartilage erosion, and bone destruction in the ankles, which may be related to matrix metalloproteinase and Janus kinase (JAK)-signal transducer and activators of transcription (STAT) signaling pathway. Purpose: BRCA1/2 mutations are well-known risk factors for breast and ovarian cancers in women. Risk-reducing salpingo-oophorectomy (RRSO) is the standard treatment for preventing ovarian cancer with BRCA mutations. Postmenopausal syndrome (symptoms after RRSO can be alleviated by hormone replacement therapy (HRT); however, the use of HRT in carriers of BRCA mutations has been controversial because of the concern that HRT increases the risk of breast cancer. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of HRT in BRCA mutation carriers who underwent RRSO., Materials and Methods: A total of 151 carriers, who underwent RRSO between 2013 and 2020 after the diagnosis of BRCA1 or BRCA2 mutations were selected and followed up for a median of 3.03 years. Patients were divided into two groups: those who received HRT after RRSO (n=33) and those who did not (n=118). We compared the incidence of breast cancer over time between these two groups., Results: There was no significant difference in the incidence of breast cancer between women who received HRT and those who did not (p=0.229). Multivariate logistic regression analysis, adjusted for age and parity revealed no significant difference in the risk of breast cancer between these two groups (hazard ratio, 0.312; 95% confidence interval, 0.039 to 2.480; p=0.278)., Conclusion: In this study, we found no relationship between post-RRSO HRT and breast cancer in the population with BRCA mutations. Therefore, healthcare providers may consider the alleviation of symptoms of postmenopausal syndrome through HRT in patients who underwent RRSO.

Background: Despite improved outcomes for pediatric patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML), the prognosis for relapse remains poor. This study aimed to examine the clinical factors associated with prognosis in relapsed pediatric AML., Methods: We conducted a chart review of pediatric patients with AML who experienced their first relapse and received treatment at our institution between 2008 and 2019. Risk stratification at diagnosis was performed according to the definition suggested by the ongoing AML 2012 study in Korea, and the clinical factors associated with prognosis were analyzed., Results: A total of 27 pediatric patients with relapsed AML were identified. The 5-year overall survival (OS) and event-free survival (EFS) rates were 32.9% and 32.9%, respectively. A duration ≥12 months from diagnosis to relapse had a favorable impact on survival outcomes (5-yr OS, 64.0% vs. 15.7%; P =0.007). Patients who achieved complete remission (CR) after 1 course of chemotherapy following relapse (N=15) had a 5-year OS rate of 59.3%, while none of the other patients survived ( P ＜0.0001). Additionally, the 5-year OS differed significantly based on the risk group at initial diagnosis (62.3% [favorable and intermediate prognosis groups, N=11] vs. 13.3% [poor prognosis group, N=15]; P =0.014)., Conclusion: Patients with a longer duration of CR before relapse, who achieved CR following 1 course of reinduction chemotherapy, and were in the favorable or intermediate prognosis group at diagnosis demonstrated better outcomes. These findings emphasize the importance of tailoring treatment strategies based on the expected prognosis at relapse in pediatric patients with AML.

Objective: To investigate the prognostic value of cancer antigen 125 (CA125) related variables on progression free survival and overall survival in primary and recurrent ovarian cancers., Method: A comprehensive review of the Medline, Embase, and Cochrane Library databases was conducted to identify relevant literature on survival outcomes according to the ELIMination Rate Constant K (KELIM), Gynecologic Cancer InterGroup (GCIG) CA125 response criteria, CA125 half-life, and CA125 nadir levels during first line or later line chemotherapy. The search included articles published before February 2023. Cut-off values determining the favorable/unfavorable score of each study were extracted, and pooled hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were analyzed using a random effects model to identify the relationship between survival outcomes of the favorable/unfavorable groups, which was determined by an individual model using CA125 kinetics., Results: A total of 27 studies with 14 444 patients with epithelial ovarian cancer were included in this meta-analysis. In primary ovarian cancer, a favorable KELIM score, determined by individual modeled cut-off values, was associated with a significant progression free survival (HR 0.53, 95% CI 0.45 to 0.62) and overall survival (HR 0.51, 95% CI 0.43 to 0.62) benefit in the primary setting. The favorable KELIM scored group also correlated with a better progression free survival (HR 0.54, 95% CI 0.47 to 0.62) in relapsed disease. We failed to demonstrate a better prognostic value of the GCIG response criteria and the CA125 half-life for progression free survival and overall survival., Conclusion: Novel chemotherapy response scores, such as KELIM, may be more clinically relevant than other prognostic models using CA125 kinetics, being directly associated with a more favorable survival in both the primary and relapsed setting in patients with epithelial ovarian cancer., Study Registration: The systemic review and meta-analysis were registered in PROSPERO (CRD42023385512)., Competing Interests: Competing interests: None declared., (© IGCS and ESGO 2023. In this study, we perform bone mineral density (BMD) calculation by designing a layered sensor module (LSM) that divides high- and low-energy spectra from a single shot of X-rays. Gamma-ray evaluation supports this mechanism; low-energy gamma rays are absorbed in the front detector, whereas high-energy gamma rays are absorbed in the rear detector. In this phantom study, LSM divides a single shot of X-ray into two spectra with different distributions of energy, thereby affording X-ray images with different properties, such as contrast and gray scale. The region of interest (ROI) is classified by the Prewitt operator to sort the pixels for BMD calculation or Rs value. The calculated final value is 1.2051 g/cm 2 with a standard deviation (SD) of 0.3690 g/cm 2 , as obtained from our previous study. An improved SD results from the layered structure with two channels for signal processing, the introduction of Rs value, and the use of Prewitt filter to sort reliable data. Overall, this study displays the feasibility of LSM for BMD calculation with a small error, thereby enabling the diagnosis of osteoporosis with novel mechanism., (© 2023. Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic inflammatory skin condition that primarily results from immune dysregulation. We determined the potential therapeutic benefits of lipid mediators (LM, 17S-monohydroxy DHA, resolvin D5, and protectin DX in a ratio of 3:47:50) produced by soybean lipoxygenase from DHA. The underlying molecular mechanisms involved in TNF-α/IFN-γ-stimulated HaCaT cells as well as its effect in an AD mouse model induced by DNCB in BALB/c mice were examined. The results indicated that LM effectively attenuates the production of inflammatory cytokines (IL-6 and IL-1β) and chemokines (IL-8 and MCP-1) by inhibiting the NF-κB signaling pathway in TNF-α/IFN-γ-stimulated HaCaT cells. The oral administration of LM at 5 or 10 μg/kg/day significantly reduced skin lesions, epidermal thickness, and mast cell infiltration in AD mice. Furthermore, LM reduced the production of IgE and inflammatory cytokines (TNF-α, IL-6, and IL-1β) in the serum, modulated gut microbiota diversity, and restored the microbial composition. DNA-based prediction of externally visible characteristics (EVC) with SNPs is one of the research areas of interest in the forensic field. Based on a previous study performing GWAS on facial traits in a Korean population, herein, we present results stemming from GWA analysis with KoreanChip and novel genetic loci satisfying genome-wide significant level. We discovered a total of 20 signals and 12 loci were found to have novel associations with facial traits, including six loci located in intergenic regions and six loci located at UBE2O, HECTD2, CCDC108, TPK1, FCN2, and FRMPD1. Additionally, we performed a polygenic score analysis for 33 distance-related traits in facial phenotyping and determined genetic relationships between facial traits and SNPs using the GCTA program. Exome and genome sequencing (ES/GS) in genetic medicine and research leads to discovering genomic secondary findings (SFs) unrelated to the purpose of the primary test. There is a lack of agreement to return the SF results for individuals undergoing the test. The aim of this study is to investigate the frequency of actionable secondary findings using GS data obtained from the rare disease study and the Korean Genome and Epidemiology Study (KoGES) in the National Project of Bio Big Data pilot study. Pathogenic (P) or likely pathogenic (LP) variants of 78 SF genes recommended by the American College of Medical Genetics and Genomics (ACMG) were screened in the rare disease study and KoGES. The pathogenicity of SF gene variants was determined according to the ACMG interpretation. The overall SF rate was 3.75% for 280 individuals with 298 P/LP variants of 41 ACMG SF genes which were identified among 7472 study participants. The frequencies of genes associated with cardiovascular, cancer, and miscellaneous phenotypes were 2.17%, 1.22%, and 0.58%, respectively. The most frequent SF gene was TTN followed by BRCA2. The frequency of actionable SFs among participants with rare disease and general population participants in the Korean population presented here will assist in reporting results of medically actionable SFs in genomic medicine., (© 2023. An obligate anaerobic, Gram-negative, rod-shaped and non-spore-forming bacterium, designated as strain GYB001 T , was isolated from the blood of a patient with a sigmoid colon perforation. Taxonomic characterization of the novel isolate was performed using a polyphasic approach. A phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene and whole genome sequences revealed that GYB001 T represented a member of the genus Parabacteroides , in the family Tannerellaceae . The closest species, based on 16S rRNA sequence, was Parabacteroides gordonii DSM 23371 T with 97.4 % similarity. Average nucleotide identity and digital DNA-DNA hybridization values between strain GYB001 T and P. gordonii DSM 23371 T were 86.7 and 28.7% and between GYB001 T and Parabacteroides faecis JCM 18682 T were 86.6 and 27.7 %, respectively. The genome was 6.57 Mbp long with 43.3 mol% G+C content. Colonies on Brucella blood agar (BBA) were circular, convex, smooth, grey and small in size. Growth was observed on trypticase soy agar (TSA), TSA +5 % sheep blood and Euglena gracilis agar. Growth occurred at 18-42 °C on BBA in the presence of 0-3 % NaCl (w/v) and at pH 6.0-8.5. The major polar lipids were phosphatidylethanolamine and phospholipids. The major fatty acids in strain GYB001 T were anteiso-C 15 : 0 and iso-C 17 : 0 3-OH, and the predominant respiratory quinones were menaquinone-10 (MK-10) and MK-9. The cell wall contained meso -diaminopimelic acid. Considering these phenotypic features and comparative genome analyses, we propose strain GYB001 T as the type strain of Parabacteroides leei sp. nov. (=KCTC 25738 T =KBN12P06525 T =LMG 32797 T ).

Context: Shoulder disorders impair the ability to work. In most cases, the primary symptoms caused by shoulder disorders consist of pain and limitations in the range of motion., Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the efficacy of motion style acupuncture treatment (MSAT), a conservative treatment modality for shoulder disorders., Design: prospective observational study SETTING: A Korean Medicine hospital PATIENTS: Eighty outpatients with shoulder disorders INTERVENTION: Either MSAT with integrative Korean medicine treatment (MSAT group; n = 40) or integrative Korean medicine treatment only (control group; n = 40)., Outcome Measures: The primary outcome was the shoulder range of motion (ROM), and the secondary outcomes were the numeric rating scale (NRS), visual analog scale (VAS), shoulder pain and disability index (SPADI), and 5-level EuroQol 5-dimension (EQ-5D-5L) scores., Results: At the primary endpoint (2 weeks from the start of the treatment), the MSAT group showed statistically significantly larger ROM for all motions, except adduction ROM, compared to the control group [Flexion ROM (165.10±4.14 vs. 150.49±4.06; P<0.001), extension ROM (43.24±1.55 vs. 40.56±1.51; P<0.05), abduction ROM (160.92±5.68 vs. 134.95±5.54; P<0.001), internal rotation ROM (73.38±2.96 vs. 65.00±2.89; P<0.001), and external rotation ROM (73.78±3.61 vs. 65.88±3.50; P<0.01)]. Additionally, the MSAT group showed significantly lower NRS, SPADI scores at week 2 than the control group; this trend was maintained until the 3-month follow-up., (Copyright © 2023.
