This study investigated how various cognitive tasks and visual challenges affect dual-task walking costs (DTWC) in younger and older adults. Twenty younger adults (Meanage = 22.25, SD = 3.04, 4 males) and eighteen older adults (Meanage = 71.75, SD = 5.17, 7 males) completed single-task walking and dual-task walking. The dual tasks involved walking while performing either (a) serial-subtraction by 3s or (b) a Stroop task. Both single tasks and dual tasks were performed under both normal vision and peripheral-vision-loss conditions. Results showed no significant three-way interaction but two significant two-way interactions: DTWC for step-length was greater during Stroop compared to serial-subtraction, (a) more in older adults regardless of vision (p = 0.022) and (b) more under peripheral-vision-loss regardless of age (p = 0.033). In addition, DTWC for various gait parameters was greater under (a) Stroop compared to serial-subtraction, (b) peripheral-vision-loss compared to normal vision, and (c) older adults compared to younger adults. These findings suggest that, when engaging in a cognitively demanding task, older adults place greater emphasis on maintaining gait compared to younger adults, likely to offset the negative impacts of additional cognitive load and deteriorated vision. Recently, as the types of imported food and the design of their packaging become more complex and diverse, digital recognition technologies such as barcodes, QR (quick response) codes, and OCR (optical character recognition) are attracting attention in order to quickly and easily check safety information (e.g., food ingredient information and recalls). However, consumers are still exposed to inaccurate and inconvenient situations because legacy technologies require dedicated terminals or include information other than safety information. In this paper, we propose a deep learning-based packaging recognition system which can easily and accurately determine food safety information with a single image captured through a smartphone camera. The detection algorithm learned a total of 100 kinds of product images and optimized YOLOv7 to secure an accuracy of over 95%. In addition, a new SUS (system usability scale)-based questionnaire was designed and conducted on 71 consumers to evaluate the usability of the system from the individual consumer's perspective. The questionnaire consisted of three categories, namely convenience, accuracy, and usefulness, and each received a score of at least 77, which confirms that the proposed system has excellent overall usability. Moreover, in terms of task completion rate and task completion time, the proposed system is superior when it compared to existing QR code- or Internet-based recognition systems. These results demonstrate that the proposed system provides consumers with more convenient and accurate information while also confirming the sustainability of smart food consumption. The evolutionarily conserved target of rapamycin (TOR) kinase acts as a master regulator that coordinates cell proliferation and growth by integrating nutrient, energy, hormone and stress signals in all eukaryotes.sup.1,2. Research has focused mainly on TOR-regulated translation, but how TOR orchestrates the global transcriptional network remains unclear. Here we identify ethylene-insensitive protein 2 (EIN2), a central integrator.sup.3-5 that shuttles between the cytoplasm and the nucleus, as a direct substrate of TOR in Arabidopsis thaliana. Glucose-activated TOR kinase directly phosphorylates EIN2 to prevent its nuclear localization. Notably, the rapid global transcriptional reprogramming that is directed by glucose-TOR signalling is largely compromised in the ein2-5 mutant, and EIN2 negatively regulates the expression of a wide range of target genes of glucose-activated TOR that are involved in DNA replication, cell wall and lipid synthesis and various secondary metabolic pathways. Chemical, cellular and genetic analyses reveal that cell elongation and proliferation processes that are controlled by the glucose-TOR-EIN2 axis are decoupled from canonical ethylene-CTR1-EIN2 signalling, and mediated by different phosphorylation sites. Our findings reveal a molecular mechanism by which a central signalling hub is shared but differentially modulated by diverse signalling pathways using distinct phosphorylation codes that can be specified by upstream protein kinases.
