Abstract

SiNx thin films have garnered attention as promising barrier films, primarily due to their low impurity diffusion rates, making them suitable for various technological applications. Despite their potential, these films face challenges because they are prone to degradation in hostile environments. This study investigated the oxidation behavior of SiNx thin films, particularly when deposited on two different types of substrates: rigid silicon (Si) and flexible polyethylene terephthalate (PET) films. A thorough microstructural analysis of the SiNx films reveals their detailed morphological and compositional characteristics, enabling a comparison between the SiNx/Si and SiNx/PET films. This study further investigates the impacts of high-temperature and humidity exposure on SiNx thin films, systematically elucidating the degradation behaviors and underlying mechanisms. The structural evolution during SiNx film oxidation is illustrated at the nanoscale, and the factors contributing to the oxidation were analyzed. This study deepens our understanding of the interplay between oxidation processes and the unique environmental conditions of substrates, offering insights into enhancing the stability and reliability of these materials. Abstract

Abstract: We investigated the effect of a Nb2O5 blocking layer formed through the sol–gel method introduced to a titanium metal foil electrode in a flexible dye sensitized solar cell. The blocking layer formed directly on the working electrode physically separates the working electrode from the electrolyte, and prevents back transfer of electrons from the electrode to the electrolyte. The gel processing conditions (sol reaction time) and heat treatment temperature used in formation of the Nb2O5 blocking layer have been shown to affect the performance of the dye sensitized solar cell and optimal values of these parameters have been determined. A sol reaction time of 45 min and heat treatment temperature of 550 °C has been observed to result in optimal cell performance (η = 6.185%, J sc = 13.233 mA/cm2, V oc = 0.672 V, ff = 0.694). Introduction of an Nb2O5 blocking layer enhances solar cell efficiency by 39.7%, which is much greater than the increase of 24.6% observed in a similar cell containing a TiO2 blocking layer under standard illumination conditions. The results obtained via Nb2O5 have been observed to be superior to those obtained via a TiO2 blocking layer. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract

A South Korean law passed on July 14, 1994, has created a new Patent Court to review the appeals from the Korean Industrial Property Office. This is part of the Korean National Assembly's efforts to consolidate its intellectual property laws. The Patent Court will start functioning from March 1, 1998. Despite criticisms it is expected that the Patent Court will help refine Korean intellectual property law. Other amendments to the laws and related developments are discussed.

Abstract

This article reports that domain names in Korea dispute reforms. Early decisions on domain names in Korea have provided rights owners with mixed results. But tae-Yeon Cho and Ik-Hyun Seo of Cho& amp; Partners in Seoul argue that new laws will be more effective in deterring cybersquatters. It was only a few years ago that domain name disputes were still a novelty in Korea. The new provision prohibits the registration, possession, transfer or use of a domain name by one who does not have legitimate rights to it, where the domain name is identical or similar to another's name, trade name, trade mark or indication that is widely recognized in Korea, where the purposes of the registrant are listed in the article.
