Given the limited and scattered data on nursing students' behavioral intentions regarding interprofessional collaboration and the factors influencing them, there is a need for comprehensive, theory-driven research on the topic from nursing students' perspectives. Using a theoretical framework provided by the theory of planned behavior, this study aimed to evaluate the behavioral intentions of Polish nursing students regarding interprofessional collaboration, including their attitudes, subjective norms, and perceived behavioral control. Sixteen nursing students participated in semi-structured interviews. Data were collected on the MS Teams application between February and May 2022 using a thematic guide created following manuals dedicated to the theory. They were thematically analyzed by two researchers using Atlas.ti Software. The results showed that students' attitudes were mostly positive. The benefits of interprofessional collaboration included positive patient outcomes, exchange of mutual knowledge and expertise, comfort, and improved work atmosphere. The risks originating from human-dependent factors were viewed as a negative aspect. The relevant groups of people influencing their subjective norms comprised nursing community representatives, other medical professionals, patients, and members of society. Perceived behavioral control aspects covered the work organization, lack of incentives for collaboration, atmosphere and habits prevailing in the workplace, and insufficient practical experience and knowledge regarding collaboration. To conclude, although positive attitudes expressed by nursing students seem to constitute a positive predictor of their involvement in interprofessional collaboration, relevant decision-makers should address negative feelings and aspects identified during this study.

Genome editing by homology directed repair (HDR) is leveraged to precisely modify the genome of therapeutically relevant hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells (HSPCs). Here, we present a new approach to increasing the frequency of HDR in human HSPCs by the delivery of an inhibitor of 53BP1 (named i53) as a recombinant peptide. We show that the use of i53 peptide effectively increases the frequency of HDR-mediated genome editing at a variety of therapeutically relevant loci in HSPCs as well as other primary human cell types. We show that incorporating the use of i53 recombinant protein allows high frequencies of HDR while lowering the amounts of AAV6 needed by 8-fold. HDR edited HSPCs were capable of long-term and bi-lineage hematopoietic reconstitution in NSG mice, suggesting that i53 recombinant protein might be safely integrated into the standard CRISPR/AAV6-mediated genome editing protocol to gain greater numbers of edited cells for transplantation of clinically meaningful cell populations.

Abstract The low-bias current–voltage technique was utilized to study charge transport in single-stranded DNA (ssDNA), assessing the method’s effectiveness for future studies aimed at estimating the degree of mutation or DNA damage. In the paper, we showed that charge carrier transfer processes in ssDNA can be precisely monitored using low-bias currents. We used negative differential resistance and the Fowler-Nordheim model to differentiate the charge transport mechanisms observed in a device composed of gold electrode-thiol-ssDNA junctions. It was possible to distinguish the processes at the two junctions (Au/thiol and thiol/DNA) due to their distinct current–voltage characteristics. We observed positive charge carrier tunneling, which we attribute to oxidation and reduction processes in the nucleobases of the ssDNA. Our results suggest that even minor changes in DNA chains can be accurately detected using the described methodology.

The aim of the research was to determine the possibility of producing and using layered composites made of aluminum and magnesium alloys Al1050-AZ31-Al1050. The use of layered composites often results from economic conditions. The work analyzed the current research, technological and production potential, as well as selected microstructural phenomena occurring in the tested multilayer materials and the effects of the rolling process. The material for the study was obtained using the explosion welding technology, one of the few enabling universal joining of often difficult-to-weld metals. The rolling process was carried out on a semi-industrial duo rolling mill with a roller diameter of Ø300 mm. The composite input material for the rolling process was heated to a temperature of 380°C. The effect of the rolling process on the distribution of metal pressure forces on the rolls, the geometric parameters and the microstructural changes occurring in the plastically formed layered composite were analysed, and the energy gain from using a structure in which the currently used aluminium components were replaced with the tested composite was estimated.

This article analyzes the community of patrons of the Internet radio station Radio 357, based on 13 in-depth interviews with the station’s listeners and a former station employee. Material from the online forum of the studied community is also analyzed. The text aims to present the members of a radio community who became involved in financing a new Internet radio station through online fundraising. An attempt is made to explain the listeners’ motivations for their unique scale of involvement in this new media initiative. The research questions relate to the characteristics of the Radio 357 audience community and the role that radio plays for them. The foundations built by many years of participation around the former station and the sense of injustice intensified by its symbolic collapse became the driving forces to fight for the continuation of their previously cultivated radio practices and traditions, already incorporated within the new station.

Abstract Apical membrane antigen-1 (AMA1) is a conserved malarial vaccine candidate essential for the formation of tight junctions with the rhoptry neck protein (RON) complex, enabling Plasmodium parasites to invade human erythrocytes, hepatocytes, and mosquito salivary glands. Despite its critical role, extensive surface polymorphisms in AMA1 have led to strain-specific protection, limiting the success of AMA1-based interventions beyond initial clinical trials. Here, we identify an i-body, a humanised single-domain antibody-like molecule that recognises a conserved pan-species conformational epitope in AMA1 with low nanomolar affinity and inhibits the binding of the RON2 ligand to AMA1. Structural characterisation indicates that the WD34 i-body epitope spans the centre of the conserved hydrophobic cleft in AMA1, where interacting residues are highly conserved among all Plasmodium species. Furthermore, we show that WD34 inhibits merozoite invasion of erythrocytes by multiple Plasmodium species and hepatocyte invasion by P. falciparum sporozoites. Despite a short half-life in mouse serum, we demonstrate that WD34 transiently suppressed P. berghei infections in female BALB/c mice. Our work describes the first pan-species AMA1 biologic with inhibitory activity against multiple life-cycle stages of Plasmodium. With improved pharmacokinetic characteristics, WD34 could be a potential immunotherapy against multiple species of Plasmodium.

Abstract Background Engagement and partnership with consumers and communities throughout research processes produces high quality research meeting community needs and promoting translation of research into improved policy and practice. Partnership is critical in research involving Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people (First Nations Peoples) to ensure cultural safety. We present lessons from the design, implementation and progress of the National Health and Medical Research Council funded INtravenous iron polymaltose for First Nations Australian patients with high FERRitin levels on hemodialysis (INFERR) clinical trial. Main body The trial was designed to understand the benefits and harms of iron therapy in First Nations Australians on haemodialysis with anaemia and hyperferritinaemia. The lack of evidence for treatment was discussed with patients who were potential participants. A key element ensuring safe conduct of the INFERR trial was the establishment of the Indigenous Reference Groups (IRGs) comprising of dialysis patients based in the Top End of Australia and Central Australia. Two IRGs were needed based on advice from First Nations communities and researchers/academics on the project regarding local cultural differences and approaches to trial conduct. The IRGs underpin culturally safe trial conduct by providing input into study materials and translating study findings into effective messages and policies for First Nations dialysis patients. Throughout the trial conduct, the IRGs’ role has developed to provide key mechanisms for advice and guidance regarding research conduct both in this study and more broadly. Support provided to the IRGs by trial First Nations Research Officers and independent First Nations researchers/academics who simplify research concepts is critical. The IRGs have developed feedback documents and processes to participants, stakeholders, and the renal units. They guarantee culturally safe advice for embedding findings from the trial into clinical practice guidelines ensuring evidence-based approaches in managing anaemia in haemodialysis patients with hyperferritinaemia. Conclusion Active consumer and community partnership is critical in research conduct to ensure research impact. Strong partnership with consumers in the INFERR clinical trial has demonstrated that First Nations Consumers will engage in research they understand, that addresses health priorities for them and where they feel respected, listened to, and empowered to achieve change.

Pharmaceutically active compounds are the most widely produced and consumed consumer products that pose a substantial threat to the environment and living organisms owing to their pharmacokinetics, side effects, and contraindications. In this study, the degradation of chloroquine (CQ), a popular antimalarial and recently proposed COVID-19 drug, was investigated under electron beam (EB) irradiation of aqueous solutions. Both the hydroxyl radical and hydrated electron generated in the radiolysis of water contribute to the degradation of CQ in aqueous solution. The overall removal efficiency for 125 mg·L-1 of the CQ solution under EB treatment is reported to be >80% at neutral pH at a maximum irradiation dose of 7 kGy. Removal efficiency is further favored by acidic and slightly alkaline conditions where reactions with hydroxyl radicals and hydrated electrons are favored, respectively. Additionally, increments in the applied dose resulted in the increased removal efficiency for the same concentration of CQ. Conversely, the removal efficiency decreased with increasing concentration of CQ at the same irradiation dose. The initial solution pH, applied irradiation dose, and initial pollutant concentration play an important role in the EB-induced degradation of CQ by influencing the available oxidizing and reducing species. The chemical oxygen demand (COD) and total organic carbon (TOC) were not significantly decreased during the treatment process and indicated the formation of organic byproducts, which were not further degraded under the current experimental conditions.

Hydroxychloroquine (HCQ), a 4-amino quinoline derivative, has antimalarial and anti-inflammatory activity and was most recently proposed in the treatment of SARS-COVID-19. Its pharmacokinetics and toxic side effects necessitate the monitoring of its presence in the environment and its removal from wastewater. In this study, HCQ was removed from an aqueous solution with a removal efficiency of between 80% and 90% under electron beam (EB) irradiation. The degradation of HCQ was propagated by reactions involving both the hydroxyl radical and aqueous electron. The degradation was observed to follow a pseudo-first-order kinetic reaction. The applied radiation dose, pH, and initial HCQ concentration were influential in the degradation efficiency under EB irradiation. Acidic and alkaline pH favored the removal of HCQ under EB irradiation. Even though the initial HCQ was successfully degraded, it was not completely mineralized. The TOC and chemical oxygen demand (COD) remained at a relatively stable level following EB irradiation of the aqueous solutions. This is attributed to the formation of other organic compounds that were not degraded under the investigated experimental conditions.

# Background Advanced neuromuscular training prepares patients with anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) for sport participation. Return-to-sport testing often includes single-leg hop tests, yet combining motor and cognitive tasks (i.e., dual-task) might reveal neurocognitive reliance. # Purpose/Hypothesis This study examined changes in performance on visuomotor reactions tests and single-leg hop tests following advanced neuromuscular training in patients with ACLR. The hypothesis was that performance would improve less on reaction tests than on single-leg hop tests. # Study Design Quasi experimental, Pretest-Posttest # Methods Twenty-five patients with ACLR (11 males) completed 10 sessions of advanced neuromuscular training and pre-and post-training testing. Reaction tests outcomes were from a platform and visual display. The double-leg reaction test involved touching target dots with either leg for 20 seconds; correct touches and errors were recorded. The single-leg reaction test involved hopping on the test leg to 10 target dots; hop time and errors were recorded. Single-leg hop tests included forward, triple, crossover triple, and timed hop; limb symmetry index was recorded. Effect sizes were calculated for corrected touches on the double-leg reaction test, surgical side hop time on the single-leg reaction test, and surgical side hop distance or time on single-leg hop tests. # Results Correct touches on the double-leg reaction test significantly increased from pre- to post-training (20.4 +/- 4.3 vs. 23.9 +/- 2.8, p 0.05). Cohens d effect sizes in descending order was single-leg hop tests (d=0.9 to 1.3), double-leg reaction test (d=0.9), and single-leg reaction test (d=0.5). # Conclusion Motor performance improved after advanced neuromuscular training, but the effect size was less on visuomotor reaction tests than single-leg hop tests. The results suggest persistence of neurocognitive reliance after ACLR and a need for more dual-task challenges in training. # Level of Evidence 3

The paper presents the results of an experimental study of the friction weldability of Titanium Grade 2 with ultrafine-grained (UFG) microstructure obtained by hydrostatic extrusion and rotary swaging (HE+RS). High-speed friction welding with different rotational speed (n) values was used as a joining method. The best properties were obtained for n=7000 rpm. Metallographic observations confirmed the formation of a continuous friction joint with a changed microstructure of the base material in the thermal-mechanical affected zone (TMAZ) and a friction weld (FW). The results of the mechanical properties showed the greatest decrease in hardness in the TMAZ. The friction welded joint had an 18 % lower tensile strength value than initial state UFG Titanium Grade 2 after the HE+RS process (with UTS=1050 MPa).

# Background The seated wall angel (SWA) is an intervention to improve upper quarter mobility but has not been described as a clinical test with scoring. # Hypothesis/ Purpose To explore the clinical utility of the SWA as a test with scoring. The authors hypothesized that SWA test scores would be lower on the injured than uninjured side, improve over time, and show stronger association with patient-reported shoulder function than shoulder mobility tests. # Study Design Prospective cohort. # Methods Patients diagnosed with anterior shoulder instability and referred to physical therapy participated. Testing occurred after physical therapy examination (initial) and six weeks later (follow-up). Rehabilitation was not controlled. Testing included clinical tests (SWA, passive shoulder external rotation range of motion, total arc of motion) and patient-reported outcomes including the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons Standardized Shoulder Assessment Form, (ASES) and the Western Ontario Shoulder Instability Index (WOSI). The SWA test was scored 0 to 3 points bilaterally based on number of body contacts with the wall (i.e., elbows and fingertips, posterior fingers, posterior forearm). Passive range of motion was measured with a standard goniometer. SWA scores were compared between sides at initial testing and compared between testing timepoints on the injured side. Associations among injured side clinical test values and patient-reported outcome scores were examined. # Results Mean (SD) SWA score on the injured side was significantly lower than the uninjured side at initial testing \[1.6 (1.0) vs 2.2 (1.1), p = 0.045] and significantly increased at follow-up testing \[2.4 (1.0), p = 0.041]. Only SWA test score was significantly correlated with ASES (r=0.597) and WOSI (r=-0.648) scores at initial testing, and SWA test score was significantly correlated with WOSI score at follow-up testing (r=-0.611). # Conclusions The clinical utility of the SWA test is supported by distinguishing the injured and uninjured sides and having stronger associations with patient-reported shoulder function than shoulder mobility tests.

Side-channel attacks on elliptic curve cryptography (ECC) often assume a white-box attacker who has detailed knowledge of the implementation choices taken by the target implementation. Due to the complex and layered nature of ECC, there are many choices that a developer makes to obtain a functional and interoperable implementation. These include the curve model, coordinate system, addition formulas, and the scalar multiplier, or lower-level details such as the finite-field multiplication algorithm. This creates a gap between the attack requirements and a real-world attacker that often only has black-box access to the target – i.e., has no access to the source code nor knowledge of specific implementation choices made. Yet, when the gap is closed, even real-world implementations of ECC succumb to side-channel attacks, as evidenced by attacks such as TPM-Fail, Minerva, the Side Journey to Titan, or TPMScan [MSE+20; JSS+20; RLM+21; SDB+24]. We study this gap by first analyzing open-source ECC libraries for insight into realworld implementation choices. We then examine the space of all ECC implementations combinatorially. Finally, we present a set of novel methods for automated reverse engineering of black-box ECC implementations and release a documented and usable open-source toolkit for side-channel analysis of ECC called pyecsca. Our methods turn attacks around: instead of attempting to recover the private key, they attempt to recover the implementation configuration given control over the private and public inputs. We evaluate them on two simulation levels and study the effect of noise on their performance. Our methods are able to 1) reverse-engineer the scalar multiplication algorithm completely and 2) infer significant information about the coordinate system and addition formulas used in a target implementation. Furthermore, they can bypass coordinate and curve randomization countermeasures.

Mechanically-alloyed CoCrFeNi high entropy alloys (MA-HEAs) show better mechanical properties than as-cast HEAs. However, the limited amount of powder milled in one-milling cycle creates a challenge in larger-scale applications. The low ball-to-powder ratio (BPR) milling used to increase powder yield resulted in the formation of Cr-rich second phases in the face-centered cubic matrix. To overcome the above issues, in this work, with a low BPR of 5:1, four different processes were analyzed: quicker milling intervals, higher milling speed, and the pre-alloying of Cr and Ni. All parameters mentioned before were used and tested together in the fourth sample. Samples were consolidated by spark plasma sintering technique. Microstructural characterization was made on a Scanning Electron Microscope equipped with EDS and EBSD detectors and a Transmission Electron Microscope. X-ray diffraction was employed to develop the structural evolution of powders sintered and annealed samples. The global hardness was measured using microhardness tests, while the nanohardness tests helped us correlate the evolution of secondary phases with their mechanical properties. The results show that pre-alloying elements with the lowest diffusion coefficient before the main milling process might be an attractive strategy to improve productivity and optimize microstructure without limiting the efficiency of low BPR MA-HEAs. The results described below demonstrate the promising perspective for the implementation of powder metallurgy techniques in a mass scale production as low BPR is essential for numerous applications like aerospace industry, car engines and medicine, where improved productivity of powder mixing is mandatory.

Abstract Background Bloodstream infections (BSIs) are a life-threatening acute medical condition and current diagnostics for BSIs suffer from long turnaround time (TAT). Here we show the validation of a rapid detection-analysis platform (RDAP) for the diagnosis of BSIs performed on clinical blood samples Methods The validation was performed on a cohort of 59 clinical blood samples, including positive culture samples, which indicated confirmed bloodstream infections, and negative culture samples. The bacteria in the positive culture samples included Gram-positive and Gram-negative pathogenic species. RDAP is based on an electrochemical sandwich immunoassay with voltage-controlled signal amplification, which provides an ultra-low limit of detection (4 CFU/mL), allowing the platform to detect and identify bacteria without requiring culture and perform phenotypic antibiotic susceptibility testing (AST) with only 1–2 h of antibiotic exposure. The preliminary diagnostic performance of RDAP was compared with that of standard commercial diagnostic technologies. Results Using a typical clinical microbiology laboratory diagnostic workflow that involved sample culture, agar plating, bacteria identification using matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization time-of-flight (MALDI TOF) mass spectrometry, and AST using MicroScan as a clinical diagnostic reference, RDAP showed diagnostic accuracy of 93.3% and 95.4% for detection-identification and AST, respectively. However, RDAP provided results at least 15 h faster. Conclusions This study shows the preliminary feasibility of using RDAP to rapidly diagnose BSIs, including AST. Limitations and potential mitigation strategies for clinical translation of the present RDAP prototype are discussed. The results of this clinical feasibility study indicate an approach to provide near real-time diagnostic information for clinicians to significantly enhance the treatment outcome of BSIs.

Despite decades of progress in providing breast cancer patients with the most effective treatment methods, successful management of triple-negative subtype of this neoplasm remains an unmet need of oncology. Molecular heterogeneity, immunological evasion mechanisms and genomic instability all contribute to this cancer’s troubling picture. Nevertheless, there have been substantial advances in exploration of the molecular landscape and innovative therapy of this entity. Discovery of molecular subtypes of triple-negative breast cancer has led to better understanding of the pathophysiological basis of the disease and gives hope for highly demanded personalized therapies. Work on targeted treatments is underway, including anti-Trop-2 antibodies, as well as PARP and PD-1/PD-L1 inhibitors. Efficacy of these drugs often relies on the presence of specific molecular targets; therefore there is a need for fast, affordable, and widely available molecular analysis methods. There is still a long road ahead, but with each discovery researchers are getting closer to making the diagnosis of triple-negative breast cancer less dire for the patient, with more effective tools at hand for the therapeutic team.

ABSTRACTWe evaluated the vaccine effectiveness (VE) of two doses of recombinant zoster vaccine (RZV) against herpes zoster (HZ) and postherpetic neuralgia (PHN) in Chinese adults at Kaiser Permanente Southern California (KPSC). Chinese KPSC members were identified based on self-reported ethnicity or self-reported preferred spoken/written language. Those aged ≥50 years who received two doses of RZV 4 weeks to ≤ 6 months apart were matched 1:4 to RZV unvaccinated Chinese members and followed through June 2022; second doses were accrued 6/1/2018–12/31/2020. We estimated incidence and adjusted hazard ratios (aHRs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) comparing outcomes (HZ and PHN). Adjusted VE (%) was calculated as (1−aHR)×100. 3978 RZV vaccinated Chinese members were matched to 15,912 RZV unvaccinated Chinese members. The incidence per 1000 person-years (95% CI) of HZ in the vaccinated group was 1.5 (0.9–2.5) and 10.9 (9.8–12.1) in the unvaccinated group; aHR (95% CI) was 0.12 (0.07–0.21). Adjusted VE (95% CI) was 87.6% (78.9–92.7) against HZ. We identified 0 PHN cases in the vaccinated group and 19 in the unvaccinated group. Among Chinese adults aged ≥50 years, two doses of RZV provided substantial protection against HZ and PHN supporting the real-world effectiveness of the vaccine in this population.

Abstract Objectives Emergency department (ED) crowding negatively affects patient care, but the effect on resident education has been difficult to quantify. We aimed to describe the relationship between ED crowding and residents’ ability to meet point‐of‐care ultrasound (POCUS) education goals. Methods We retrospectively reviewed medical records from November 2021 to June 2023 at an academic level 1 trauma center, where emergency medicine residents complete longitudinal POCUS scanning shifts throughout 3 years of training. Residents are expected to complete ≥14 scans per scanning shift. We assessed whether completing the goal POCUS scans on a scanning shift (success: ≥14 scans, near‐success: 10‒13, failure:
