Background/Objectives: This study aims to systematize the ability to use ROE to assess rhinoplasty outcomes in surgical approaches. Methods: The PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science databases were searched for the following terms: "rhinoplasty and outcome" OR "prognosis" OR "outcomes" OR "satisfaction" OR "quality of life" OR QoL "rhinoplasty outcome evaluation". The timeframe of the included studies is from 2011 to May 2024. Ultimately, 17 papers were included in the conducted meta-analysis of ROE scores between pre- and post-treatment data. Results The mean value of the pre-treatment ROE score was 33.50 with a CI of 29.46 to 37.53 (p < 0.001), while the post-treatment ROE was 69.60 with a CI of 63.07 to 76.14 (t ≤ 6 months). At t = 12 months it was 80.25 with a CI of 75.79 to 84.70 (p < 0.001). The mean difference between pre-treatment and post-treatment scores (t ≤ 6 months) was −36.31 with a CI of −40.93 to −31.69. The mean difference between pre-treatment and post-treatment scores for 6 m < t ≤ 12 m was −47.36 with a CI of −53.89 to −40.83. Conclusions: The result was statistically significant (p < 0.001). Background: Bimaxillary surgeries (BiMax) are an essential part of the craniomaxillofacial specialty. The osteotomies and subsequent spatial rearrangement of the maxilla and the mandible enable the correction of facial deformities, asymmetry, and malocclusion. Moreover, the movements performed during the procedure affect the morphology of surrounding soft tissues, including the upper airway (UA). Objectives: The objective of this study was to radiologically assess the potential volumetric alterations of the UA in the supine position at various intervals following BiMax advancement surgeries. Methods: A group of 31 patients who underwent BiMax advancement surgery were included in the study. Medical computed tomography (CT) of the head and neck region was performed 2 weeks preoperatively, 1 day postoperatively, and 6 months postoperatively. The UA volumes were calculated and analyzed based on the acquired Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM) files using different software applications. The sella-nasion-A point (SNA) and sella-nasion-B point (SNB) angles were evaluated to measure the achieved maxillomandibular advancement. Results: When comparing the volume of the UA before surgery, post-surgery, and 6 months post-surgery, the p-value was <0.001, indicating statistically significant differences in UA volume between the successive examinations. A statistically significant difference was found between UA volume before surgery and 6 months post-surgery and between UA volume after surgery and 6 months post-surgery, with the obtained p-values being <0.001 and 0.001, respectively. A significantly larger UA volume was observed 6 months post-surgery (mean ± SD: 27.3 ± 7.3) compared to the volume before surgery (mean ± SD: 22.2 ± 6.4), as well as 6 months post-surgery compared to the volume assessed shortly after surgery (mean ± SD: 24.2 ± 7.3). Conclusions: BiMax advancement surgeries result in the significant enlargement of the UA. The volume of the UA does not diminish immediately following the procedure and is not constant; it increases significantly during the postoperative observation period. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Endodontic disease with formation of periapical lesions (PALs) is one of the most common causes of chronic odontogenic sinusitis (ODS). It requires close collaboration between otolaryngologists and dentists, but the best sequence of management is still unknown. The aim of the present study is to clarify how radiological characteristics of teeth with PALs and previous root-canal treatment (RCT) influence the clinical evolution of the disease and to define the predictive value of its radiological and endoscopic features in determining the need for further surgical intervention. A total of 68 symptomatic patients with ODS with PALs were included in the study. The evaluation was performed by an otolaryngologist and a dentist based on a medical interview, nasal endoscopy, cold pulp testing and tomography images. Patients were prospectively followed for at least 12 months, during which nasal steroids, saline irrigations and RCT were administered. The criteria of disease improvement were: decrease of symptoms, healed sinonasal mucosa in endoscopy and radiological resolution of periapical radiolucency and sinus inflammation. Results showed that 9 (13%) patients improved after conservative treatment and 59 (87%) required further surgical intervention. Patients who improved after medical treatment and RCT were younger (p = 0.043) and had a greater distance from the top of the periapical lesion to the maxillary sinus' floor (p = 0.003). When expansion of PALs and bone destruction toward the maxillary sinus was observed on radiological imaging (p = 0.041), and when more than one tooth root was affected (p = 0.004), patients were more likely to require surgical intervention. In conclusion, the more roots that are affected and the closer the top of the PAL is to the maxillary sinus' floor, the greater the possibility of medical treatment and RCT failure. When the bone destruction extends into the maxillary sinus, patients eventually require both tooth extraction and FESS in order to resolve ODS completely. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: Usually the symptoms presented in odontogenic sinusitis do not differ from chronic sinusitis of other origin. However, odontogenic sinusitis is considered as an independent disease which requires specific diagnostic approach and treatment. Aim: The aim of the study is to define the main symptoms of odontogenic rhinosinusitis with periapical lesions and its impact on the quality of life. Material and methods: The SNOT-22 and OHIP-14 questionnaires were distributed among 26 symptomatic patients suffering from odontogenic sinusitis with periapical lesions in the teeth that remain in close contact with the maxillary sinus floor. Data was collected by means of an interview and standard examination performed by an otolaryngologist and a maxillofacial surgeon. The symptoms were also objectified using nasal endoscopy and radiological studies. The acquired data was statistically analyzed. Results: The total OHIP-14 score was 14.7 ± 11.3, whereas the total SNOT-22 score was 44.6 ± 18.8. Women scored significantly higher in the total SNOT-22 score as well as domains concerning nasal symptoms, quality of sleep, and emotional symptoms. The answers given in similar items were comparable between both questionnaires. Conclusions: Properly diagnosed odontogenic sinusitis (OS) with periapical lesions (PAL) will improve the quality of healthcare and spare the patients inadequate procedures. Standard examination should include a unified and validated questionnaire concerning both sinonasal and oral symptoms. Painful aching in the mouth and discomfort during eating might help to identify the OS with PAL during a medical interview and help both ENT (ear-nose-throat) specialists and dentists to establish proper patient-oriented diagnosis and treatment. Retromolar foramen (RMF) is small external orifice of the retromolar canal (RMC), located in the retromolar region of the mandible. Knowledge about the location of the retromolar foramen and the route of the retromolar canal within the mandible is significant for clinical practice due to a high risk of injury during oral and caniomaxillofacial surgery. In this study, the authors analysed 100 cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) scans of the modern people's retromolar region and 26 scans of samples from the medieval population. Additionally, 74 retromolar regions of the medieval people were examined macroscopically. The statistical analysis showed a correlation between the frequency of RMC occurrence and bone thickness on the medial surface of the retromolar canal. Also it was proven that the results of the RMF identification based on macroscopic examination of the bone may be falsely negative or positive and it is caused by destruction caused by resting in soil. &lt;br&gt;&lt;b&gt;Introduction:&lt;/b&gt; In recent years, there has been a steady increase in the incidence of tongue cancer. Rapid asymptomatic growth, early metastases, and crossing lymphatic drainage of the tongue reduce the chances of successful therapy. The presence of metastases in cervical lymph nodes is also an important prognostic factor.&lt;/br&gt; &lt;br&gt;&lt;b&gt;Aim:&lt;/b&gt; The aim of the study is a retrospective analysis of the incidence of unilateral and bilateral metastases within the cervical lymphatic system in patients with unilateral tongue cancer that does not cross the midline.&lt;/br&gt; &lt;br&gt;&lt;b&gt;Materials and methods:&lt;/b&gt; A retrospective study of a group of patients hospitalized and treated for malignant tongue cancers at the Clinical Ward of Cranio-Maxillo-Facial Surgery of the Department of Otolaryngology and Laryngological Oncology of the Military Institute of Medicine-National Research Institute in Warsaw in 2012-2023. As many as 106 patients treated for unilateral tongue cancer that has not crossed the midline were selected, who also underwent unilateral or bilateral cervical lymphadenectomy, apart from primary tumor resection and reconstruction. The analysis was based on the medical records of the patients, results of imaging and histopathological examinations, and surgical procedure protocols.&lt;/br&gt; &lt;br&gt;&lt;b&gt;Results:&lt;/b&gt; In a group of 106 patients with unilateral tongue cancer, in whom the cancer did not cross the midline, 47 patients underwent unilateral lymphadenectomy, of which 16 had lymph node metastases. Bilateral lymph node removal was performed in 59 patients. In 26 cases metastases were detected only in ipsilateral lymph nodes, and in 13 cases metastases were found in contralateral lymph nodes. Among 106 patients, occult metastases were detected in 21 patients.&lt;/br&gt; &lt;br&gt;&lt;b&gt;Conclusions:&lt;/b&gt; Due to the crossing of the lymphatic drainage of the tongue, which allows for the possibility of contralateral metastases, and the impact of the operation on oncological efficacy, it is reasonable to perform bilateral cervical lymphadenectomy.&lt;/br&gt.

Face cancer is one of the most common skin tumors and because of its locations is usually early diagnosed. In spite of this a lot of recurrence after surgical treatment are observed. It is caused a lack of proper margins in sequence of limitation excision because of esthetic and functional reasons. The recurrence of skin cancer primarily localized in periocular region and infiltrating intraorbital, ethmoidal and nasal tissues demand extensive and injurious surgical procedures. The authors present their experience in diagnostic and treatment patients with recurrent cancers infiltrating of ethmoid-orbito-nasal complex.
