- Abstract
The book has been written in a simplified manner. It covers 102 common pediatric signs and symptoms. Each sign and symptom is elaborated methodologically. It starts with a short introduction which includes the meaning of sign and symptom, prevalence in practice, common points to be covered during collecting information from parents, analysis of data and probable etiology. Common causes for each sign and symptom are enlisted. They are arranged in the sequence of seeing on the practice to highlight their clinical importance and not grouped as system wise. The most common causes are kept first, then less common and rare ones at the last. Very rare causes are not included in the list to maintain the interest of the reader and to avoid undue length of the manuscript. Plenty of tables and clinical photographs are included for easy retrieval of information and good visual impression. Most of clinical photographs are of our own patients.

- Abstract
The management of glenohumeral arthritis in the young patient remains a challenging problem for the treating clinician. The activity demands seen in such patient populations require a unique understanding of what the goals of treatment are to ensure satisfied and sustainable outcomes. In addition, younger patients have a longer life expectancy and more active lifestyles, which can negatively impact the longevity of arthroplasty implants that are traditionally used in the older patient population. As such, the discovery and implementation of novel and anatomy preserving techniques continue to evolve to meet the demand of younger patients without compromising their outcomes. This practical text serves to educate the treating clinician on how to recognize and categorize glenohumeral osteoarthritis in young patients and offers insight into the various operative and non-operative treatment options. Opening chapters examine the prevalence and burden, etiology and evaluation of the condition, followed by chapters discussing the current non-invasive and non-operative approaches to treatment, such as injection therapy. The main complement of chapters are detailed descriptions of surgical approaches, from arthroscopy and cartilage reconstruction to total and reverse shoulder arthroplasty, stemless approaches and arthrodesis. A final chapter expands on future management strategies. Radiographs and intraoperative photos are provided to enhance the text.Presenting the state of the art for this increasingly common condition, Glenohumeral Osteoarthritis in the Young Patient is an ideal resource for orthopedic surgeons and sports medicine specialists alike.

- Abstract
Before birth through young adulthood there is a wide range of health issues that affect our children, such as general childhood illnesses, eating and obesity, accidents and injuries, and particular stages of life, such as teenage independence. Child health and pediatrics focus on the well-being of children from conception through adolescence, but human development is a life span issue, so research in childhood does not stop with the end of adolescence, but we need a long-term and life long study to observe and understand the development process. It is not enough to survive, we also need to strive for well-being and transform our globe to a better place to live in and grow and transform our children. In this Yearbook you will find information about health, education, leadership and other relevant issues important for childhood and adolescence.

- Abstract
This authoritative handbook, with its clear, concise descriptions of the important features of many common infectious diseases, will serve as a valuable guide for medical students and physicians in general paediatric practice. The authors'aim throughout has been to provide details of the usual clinical picture, the management, and the preventive or control measures widely accepted in these common infections. Tey have emphasized differential diagnosis, comparing the principal infectious diseases, particularly those with a specific rash, to other diseases with similar features, in an effort to clarify some of the essential differential diagnostic points in these diseases. Dr. Anglin and Dr. Shusterman have collaborated with Dr. Silverthorne in preparing this revision, which contains important new sections on virus infections and on ocular diseases. When the first edition of this book was published in 1958, Acta Paediatrica wrote: ‘Dr. Silverthorne…has intended this concise but complete volume for the use of medical students and general practitioners. Compact in its format, and easily read, it will make a useful and valuable addition to any medical library….Particular mention should be made of the section dealing with infections in the newborn period. This rather large area is admirably well condensed, and the important points in diagnosis and management are forcefully brought out. Although not intended as a textbook it should prove exceedingly useful as a guide to the physician who daily sees the conditions which comprise its contents.'

- Abstract
Just a few decades ago, children born with significant congenital anomalies or genetic and metabolic diseases perished at an early age, and very few survived into their teens and even less into adulthood. Congenital heart disease, major errors in metabolism, cancer, cystic fibrosis and many other major diseases were fatal. Because of this, many physicians in adult primary care did not have the opportunity to see patients with these problems and thus were unable to learn how to care for them. With major advancements in medical knowledge, technology, imaging techniques, surgical skills and pharmaceutical products (as well as prosthetic devices), many of these patients now live much longer lives and sometimes even survive to the average life expectancy. With that, a new medical care challenge has been created and we have to take a life span approach.

- Abstract
Good health and medical care in childhood and adolescence are essential for the ability to neutralize health threats later in life and to extend longevity. Thus, pediatric diseases, diagnostics and treatment justifiably draw ever increasing attention. The book highlights recent advances and innovations in gastroesophageal ailments, often missed in children, respiratory infections, and in genetically determined immune malfunctions such as familial hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis, known as a cytokine storm, renal vasculitis, or thyroid and growth anomalies. Functional genomics has become part of genetic counseling aimed at early diagnosis and treatment of chromosomal aberrations underlying congenital malformations. Deeper insights into childhood morbidity require identification of the pathways and biological processes most affected which could become drug targets. This book is dedicated to practical aspects of multifactorial disease processes of young age. It will be of interest to pediatricians, family doctors, and clinical researchers.

- Abstract
In the year 2010, the new “International Journal of Child and Adolescent Health†was begun under the auspices of the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development in Israel, in collaboration with Nova Science Publishers in New York, in order to facilitate an outlet for peer-reviewed papers in the areas of both child and adolescent health and human development. The editors hoped that there would be an international interest in such a new journal, and they hoped to receive good-quality reviews and original papers in these areas. This in fact happened, and in this yearbook they have gathered papers from the year 2011. This book discusses recent advances in child and adolescent health with research findings published in the year 2011.
