1. Low-temperature copper etching via reactions with Cl2 and PEt3 under ultrahigh vacuum conditions

Abstract

The adsorption and desorption behavior of PEt3 on copper and chlorinated copper surfaces under ultrahigh vaccum (UHV) conditions is investigated. Infrared experiments are performed in a diffusion pumped vacuum system wherein irradiated copper single crystal samples are subjected to reactive scattering and temperature programmed desorption analyses. The necessary measurements are then obtained by Auger electron spectroscopy. Results show that copper can be dry etched by reaction with Cl2 and PEt3 under UHV conditions.

Abstract

The use of radiation controlled chemical etching and chemical vapor deposition in the formation of copper patterns on poly(tetrafluoroethylene) was investigated. The results showed that the Cu films were continuous and featured a resistivity of 4 microohms centimeter. In addition, the films exhibited high purity. The use of radiation controlled etching and chemical vapor deposition allowed films as small as 35 micrometers to be produced.

3. The availability of local services and its impact on community cohesion in rural areas: Evidence from the English countryside.

Abstract

This paper investigates how the availability of services and amenities influences levels of community cohesion in rural England. Specifically, we measure levels of community cohesion in selected rural parishes between two points of time (2000 and 2010) using an index of indicators based on the presence or absence of retailers and amenities. Results of this analysis provide empirical evidence that the presence of facilities and services has a considerable impact on residents in rural areas, suggesting a significant relationship between the presence of small retailers and social engagement in the English countryside. We discuss these findings with regard to policies and initiatives that could enhance the positive impact that services and amenities operating within villages and rural hamlets have on local communities. 25. Single-Source MOCVD of Fe/Sn Alloy Thin Films

Abstract

Two organometallic compounds containing an Fe−Sn bond, CpFe(CO)2(SnMe3) (Cp:  η5-cyclopentadienyl) and cis-Fe(CO)4(SnMe3)2, have been used as single-source low-pressure CVD precursors to grow Fe/Sn alloy thin films at 300−420 °C. Deposited films were characterized by various surface analytical techniques. Electron probe microanalyses show that Fe and Sn elements are evenly distributed in the films. X-ray powder diffraction patterns indicate that these are polycrystalline films. Polycrystalline FeSn films have been successfully prepared from CpFe(CO)2(SnMe3) with the deposition rates of 78−175 Å/min. The films composed of FeSn2 phase with a minor constituent of FeSn were obtained by using cis-Fe(CO)4(SnMe3)2 as precursor and the deposition rates were 130−330 Å/min.

Abstract

Novel silver alkyne complexes of the empirical formula [(hfac)Ag]nL, where hfac = 1,1,1,5,5,5-hexafluoro-2,4-pentanedionato and n = 1 for L = diphenylacetylene (1) and bis(trimethylsilyl)acetylene (2) and n = 2 for L = 2-butyne (3), 2-hexyne (4), 3-hexyne (5), and 4-octyne (6), were prepared from reactions of Ag2O with hfacH in the presence of the corresponding alkynes. X-ray single-crystal diffraction analyses reveal that compound 1 is a mononuclear silver complex with a coordination number of 3 and compound 6 is a tetranuclear silver species in which each silver atom is four-coordinate.

Abstract

New silver complexes of alkenes of empirical formula (β-diketonato)Ag(VTES), where β-diketonato = 1,1,1,5,5,5-hexafluoro-2,4-pentanedionato (hfac) (1), 1,1,1-trifluoro-2,4-pentanedionato (tfac) (2), and 2,2-dimethyl-6,6,7,7,8,8,8-heptafluoro-3,5-octanedionato (fod) (3) and VTES = vinyltriethylsilane, were prepared from reactions of Ag2O with β-diketones in the presence of VTES. All compounds were characterized by elemental analyses and 1H, 13C, and 19F NMR and IR spectra. The crystal structure of compound 3 determined by X-ray diffraction analysis showed a dimeric silver species with coordination of the C&dbd;C double bond of VTES, two oxygen atoms of a chelating fod ligand, and the methine C atom of another fod in the solid state. Hot-wall chemical vapor deposition experiments revealed that compound 1 is suitable as a precursor to deposit pure silver films in the temperature range 160−280 °C.
