- Abstract
The purpose of this atlas is to illustrate how to achieve reliable diagnoses when confronted by the different abnormalities, or “disease patterns”, that may be visualized on CT scans of the chest. The task of pattern recognition has been greatly facilitated by the advent of high-technology CT such as helical and multidetector CT (MDCT) and dual-energy CT (DECT), and the focus of the book is very much on the role of state-of-the-art MDCT. A wide range of disease patterns and distributions are covered, with emphasis on the typical imaging characteristics of the various focal and diffuse lung diseases. In addition, clinical information relevant to differential diagnosis is provided and the underlying gross and microscopic pathology is depicted, permitting CT–pathology correlation. The entire information relevant to each disease pattern is also tabulated for ease of reference. This book will be an invaluable handy tool that will enable the reader to quickly and easily reach a diagnosis appropriate to the pattern of lung abnormality identified on CT scans. And in this second edition, some more signs and several new diseases and their pattern have been developed and updated. They will be provided with imaging, clinical relevance and CT-pathology correlation. Moreover, the chapters and disease patterns in their order of presentation shall be somewhat changed for readers'easy legibility and understanding.

- Abstract
Deep Learning for Chest Radiographs enumerates different strategies implemented by the authors for designing an efficient convolution neural network-based computer-aided classification (CAC) system for binary classification of chest radiographs into'Normal'and'Pneumonia.'Pneumonia is an infectious disease mostly caused by a bacteria or a virus. The prime targets of this infectious disease are children below the age of 5 and adults above the age of 65, mostly due to their poor immunity and lower rates of recovery. Globally, pneumonia has prevalent footprints and kills more children as compared to any other immunity-based disease, causing up to 15% of child deaths per year, especially in developing countries. Out of all the available imaging modalities, such as computed tomography, radiography or X-ray, magnetic resonance imaging, ultrasound, and so on, chest radiographs are most widely used for differential diagnosis between Normal and Pneumonia. In the CAC system designs implemented in this book, a total of 200 chest radiograph images consisting of 100 Normal images and 100 Pneumonia images have been used. These chest radiographs are augmented using geometric transformations, such as rotation, translation, and flipping, to increase the size of the dataset for efficient training of the Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs). A total of 12 experiments were conducted for the binary classification of chest radiographs into Normal and Pneumonia. It also includes in-depth implementation strategies of exhaustive experimentation carried out using transfer learning-based approaches with decision fusion, deep feature extraction, feature selection, feature dimensionality reduction, and machine learning-based classifiers for implementation of end-to-end CNN-based CAC system designs, lightweight CNN-based CAC system designs, and hybrid CAC system designs for chest radiographs. This book is a valuable resource for academicians, researchers, clinicians, postgraduate and graduate students in medical imaging, CAC, computer-aided diagnosis, computer science and engineering, electrical and electronics engineering, biomedical engineering, bioinformatics, bioengineering, and professionals from the IT industry. - Provides insights into the theory, algorithms, implementation, and application of deep-learning techniques for medical images such as transfer learning using pretrained CNNs, series networks, directed acyclic graph networks, lightweight CNN models, deep feature extraction, and conventional machine learning approaches for feature selection, feature dimensionality reduction, and classification using support vector machine, neuro-fuzzy classifiers - Covers the various augmentation techniques that can be used with medical images and the CNN-based CAC system designs for binary classification of medical images focusing on chest radiographs - Investigates the development of an optimal CAC system design with deep feature extraction and classification of chest radiographs by comparing the performance of 12 different CAC system designs

- Abstract
Chest x-rays are among the most difficult plain film to report. This helpful book combines a simple introduction to the basics of chest x-ray reporting with a good number of sample cases, including actual radiographs. The book begins with the anatomy of the chest x-ray, as visualised on the posterior anterior and lateral images. This is followed by a short chapter on having a systematic approach when reporting chest x-rays, then the silhouette sign as described by Felson, then chapters on consolidation and collapse, heart failure, tumours, lung nodules, chest trauma, positioning of tubes, lines and pacemakers, chronic chest conditions and tuberculosis. Finally, there is a chapter that includes 60 cases for the reader to review. Today, many different healthcare professionals are involved in reviewing chest x-rays. This book will therefore be useful for advanced nurse practitioners, accident and emergency practitioners, and major trauma practitioners, as well as trainee radiologists, radiographers, trainee reporting radiographers and junior medics.

- Abstract

- Abstract

- Abstract
Prior to the virtual atomic explosion of medical knowledge, at a time when communica tion was very much slower, a medical book, to be authoritative and believable, had to be written by a very knowledgable, and, per force, usually quite senior person. The choice of texts was limited and tended to be dominated by a few'classic'(a phrase not quite synonymous with dogma). Following the information explosion, the scenario is quite different. Not only is there a geometric progression in the quantity and speed of devel opment of new medical knowledge, but also this development is occurring at very dif ferent rates in different countries. This is particularly true in medical imaging. The result is that it is now virtually impossible to produce a'single author'book that can cover the field or even a subdivi sion of it. This absolute requirement for multiple authors has in turn created the need for a new type of editor/author who must be multinational in approach, have a uniquely informed appreciation of what is going on in medical imaging research throughout the entire world and possess the depth of personal knowledge and experience to judge cor rectly what work is the most rigorous and likely to have the greatest impact.

- Abstract
Diagnostic imaging is an essential component in the evaluation of the patient with known or suspected respiratory tract disease. While chest radiography continues to serve as the primary tool for imaging the chest, advances in computed tomography (CT) have led to a variety of applications such as high-resolution CT (HRCT), advanced 3-D airway imaging, and image-guided procedures. The aim of this book is to deliver a clinically-oriented approach to pulmonary imaging. Each chapter of the book will provide an organized approach to the different facets of imaging of specific clinical scenarios, focusing on strengths and weaknesses of available imaging tests. High quality examples of typical imaging findings of specific conditions will supplement the text. The target readers include practicing internists, pulmonologists, thoracic surgeons, and primary care practitioners. Other readers will include respiratory care therapists and medical students. The proposed cohort of authors represents experts in the field of thoracic radiology. These authors have experience in thoracic radiology and medical writing, each will deliver a high-quality chapter meeting the aims and scope of this book while addressing the target audience. Aside from the first three chapters, which are introductory materials, each author will be invited to select a clinician with whom they work closely to serve as a co-author in order to provide a chapter that maintains the clinical orientation of this book.

- Abstract
The purpose of this series of volumes is to present a comprehensive view of the complications that result from the use of acceptable diagnostic and therapeutic proce dures. Individual volumes will deal with iatrogenic complications involving (I) the alimentary system, (2) the urinary system, (3) the respiratory and cardiac systems, (4) the skeletal system and (5) the pediatric patient. The term iatrogenic, derived from two Greek words, means physician-induced. Originally, it applied only to psychiatric disorders generated in the patient by autosug gestion, based on misinterpretation of the doctor's attitude and comments. As clinically used, it now pertains to the inadvertent side-effects and complications created in the course of diagnosis and treatment. The classic categories of disease have included: (1) congenital and developmental, (2) traumatic, (3) infectious and inflammatory, (4) metabolic, (5) neoplastic, and (6) degenerative. To these must be added, however, iatrogenic disorders-a major, although generally unacknowledged, source of illness. While great advances in medical care in both diagnosis and therapy have been accom few decades, many are at times associated with certain side-effects plished in the past and risks which may result in distress equal to or greater than the basic condition. Iatrogenic complications, which may be referred to as'diseases of medical progress,'have become a new dimension in the causation of human disease.

The chest X-ray (CXR) or chest radiograph remains the most commonly ordered imaging study in medicine, yet paradoxically is often the most complex to learn, recall, and master effective and accurate interpretation. The chest radiograph includes all thoracic anatomy and provides a high yield, given the low cost and single source. This guide presents a structured lexicon for use by readers to reproducibly describe radiographic abnormalities of the chest detected on plain film CXRs. The lexicon is designed to provide readers with clinically significant differentiation of abnormalities detected. The content is structured to relate specific combinations of distinct radiographic findings to classes/groupings of pathological etiologies of those findings. Recognizing the individual findings and identifying their combination or lack of combination with other individual findings allows readers to create effective differential diagnoses that can then be further evaluated using other imaging procedures and/or non-radiographic clinical information. The book includes hundreds of images, including radiographs, CTs, graphics, and analogous models to help teach otherwise complex processes and radiographic principles.

- Abstract
Chest Radiology: Plain Film Patterns and Differential Diagnoses, 6th Edition, by James C Reed, MD, provides expert guidance on interpretation of the most often seen radiologic patterns of chest disease. The new edition continues to emphasize pattern recognition on plain film -- with correlative CT, MR and other important modalities included where appropriate. Each pattern is introduced with radiographs followed by a series of questions, tables of differential diagnosis, and discussions of the most likely diseases to present with such a pattern. The discussion sections emphasize the importance of clinical correlation to narrow down the differential diagnosis, and what follow-up tests are indicated to definitively confirm a diagnosis. New high-quality digital images and updated questions enhance the latest edition of this trusted reference.Get all you need to know about the fundamentals of plain film chest radiology as well as CT, MR, and other important modalities. Overcome clinical challenges with guidance about the pitfalls of plain film radiography, and indications for CT, HRCT, biopsy, and other procedures. Use comparative image study to master pattern recognition and improve your understanding of the correlation between findings on plain film, CT, MR, and more. See imaging findings as they appear in practice and discern subtle nuances found in new, high-quality digital images. Test your knowledge with illustrated case studies and quizzes featuring newly written questions that address the challenges seen in practice today.

- Abstract
Translated into over a dozen languages, this book has been widely praised for making interpretation of the chest X-ray as simple as possible. It describes the range of conditions likely to be encountered on the wards and guides the doctor through the process of examining and interpreting the film based on the appearance of the abnormality shown. It then assists the doctor in determining the nature of the abnormality and points the clinician towards a possible differential diagnosis. It covers the common radiological problems the junior doctors are faced with starting with the appearance of the film, e.g. showing generalised shadowing or a coin lesion. It gives advice on how to examine an X-ray, how to check its technical quality and how to identify where the lesion is. All the X-rays are accompanied by a simple line diagram outlining where the abnormality is.Covers the full range of common radiological problems.Includes valuable advice on how to examine an X-ray.Assists the doctor in determining the nature of the abnormality.Points the clinician towards a possible differential diagnosis. Now presented in two-colour to enhance the appearance of the text.New material includes an introduction to thoracic CT scanning indicating the usefulness of these scans where appropriate.

- Abstract
Chest X-Ray in Clinical Practice brings a deeper understanding of chest x-rays to the forefront, enabling doctors to make confident and accurate diagnoses across a range of medical situations. The principles and practice of acquisition of the chest X-ray are discussed, raising awareness of technical factors that may limit the extent of interpretation, to ensure that doctors-in-training take every precaution in avoiding the common ‘pitfalls'of misinterpretation. The chest radiograph is a very commonly requested examination and it is probably the hardest plain film to interpret correctly. Accurate interpretation can greatly influence patient management in the acute setting. It is, however, often performed out of hours with interpretation undertaken by relatively junior members of staff, frequently with no senior radiological advice available. Chest X-Ray in Clinical Practice concentrates on conditions commonly diagnosed in an acute setting, with special attention drawn to those areas of the image that are often overlooked. Whilst the main focus is upon the plain film, the increasing use of CT is recognised. Providing content in a user friendly, logical structure and layout, this book gives the reader a reliable framework for chest x-ray interpretation. With 130 high quality annotated digital images, which assist reader to recognise common and important abnormalities, Chest X-Ray in Clinical Practice also provides key learning points in each chapter, consolidating the reader's understanding, and consequently acting as a quick reference tool for all junior doctors.
