Abstract The lip-splitting approach enables excellent access to all areas of the mouth and pharynx to remove tumors; however, traditional lower lip-splitting incisions produce an unsatisfactory scar. To achieve better functional and aesthetic results, we used a Z-shaped incision and compared the functional and aesthetic outcomes of the straight and Z-shaped incisions. Sixty patients who fulfilled the inclusion criteria were randomly divided into two groups and underwent lip-splitting between March 2021 and September 2023. Eventually, 77 patients were reviewed within 6 months and evaluated using the lip function assessment scale, patient and observer scar assessment scale, naïve observer scar assessment scale, and a clinical examination. The Z-shaped incision group performed better in terms of the lip pout movement at 3 months and in the subjective overall opinion, color, irregularity, and pigmentation at 6 months. The Z-shaped incision group had a lower incidence of notched vermilion. In conclusion, Z-shaped lower lip-splitting incisions have better functional and aesthetic outcomes than traditional straight incisions. ObjectiveThis study aimed to explore the impact of exercise training modes on sensory and motor-related cortex excitability using functional near-infrared spectroscopy technology (fNIRS) and reveal specific cortical effects.Materials and methodsTwenty participants with no known health conditions took part in a study involving passive, active, and resistance tasks facilitated by an upper-limb robot, using a block design. The participants wore functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) devices throughout the experiment to monitor changes in cortical blood oxygen levels during the tasks. The fNIRS optode coverage primarily targeted key areas of the brain cortex, including the primary motor cortex (M1), primary somatosensory cortex (S1), supplementary motor area (SMA), and premotor cortex (PMC) on both hemispheres. The study evaluated cortical activation areas, intensity, and lateralization values.ResultsPassive movement primarily activates M1 and part of S1, while active movement mainly activates contralateral M1 and S1. Resistance training activates brain regions in both hemispheres, including contralateral M1, S1, SMA, and PMC, as well as ipsilateral M1, S1, SMA, and PMC. Resistance movement also activates the ipsilateral sensorimotor cortex (S1, SMA, PMC) more than active or passive movement. Active movement has higher contralateral activation in M1 compared to passive movement. Resistance and active movements increase brain activity more than passive movement. Different movements activate various cortical areas equally on both sides, but lateralization differs. The correlation between lateralization of brain regions is significant in the right cortex but not in the left cortex during three movement patterns.ConclusionAll types of exercise boost motor cortex excitability, but resistance exercise activates both sides of the motor cortex more extensively. The PMC is crucial for intense workouts. The right cortex shows better coordination during motor tasks than the left. fNIRS findings can help determine the length of treatment sessions.

The implementation of the provincial geo-hazard risk survey in China holds significant guiding importance in assessing disaster risks on a large scale and across different regions. Taking the Pearl River Delta (PRD) in Guangdong Province as a case study, characterized by a highly developed economy and dense population yet facing challenges from geo-hazard, this study utilizes the risk assessment system for geo-hazard along with a substantial dataset on hidden dangers. The hazardousness levels, vulnerability, and overall risk are evaluated by applying the risk matrix method, Weighted Informativeness method, and grey correlation analysis method. The results indicate that: (1) The level of hazardousness posed by geo-hazards in the PRD is typically more pronounced in the central and eastern areas, while it is lower in the western regions. The severity of geo-hazards is primarily influenced by rainfall factors, while there is no direct correlation between slope factors and the occurrence of geo-hazards. The relationship between altitude and the likelihood of geo-hazards typically indicates that higher altitudes pose a greater risk. However, this pattern does not hold for the PRD; (2) The susceptibility to geo-hazard in the PRD is intricately linked to the level of regional economic advancement, with areas of medium to high vulnerability predominantly clustered around Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and Dongguan; (3) The likelihood of geo-hazard in the PRD, with a higher risk observed in the central part and lower risk in the surrounding areas, displaying a radial distribution pattern. Rainfall patterns and the level of economic development in the region significantly influence the assessment of geo-hazard risks in the PRD.

The Tsinghua University–Ma Huateng Telescopes for Survey (TMTS) started to monitor the LAMOST plates in 2020, leading to the discovery of numerous short-period eclipsing binaries, peculiar pulsators, flare stars, and other variable objects. Here, we present the uninterrupted light curves for a sample of 64 cataclysmic variables (CVs) observed/discovered using the TMTS during its first three-year observations, and we introduce new CVs and new light-variation periods (from known CVs) revealed through the TMTS observations. Thanks to the high-cadence observations of TMTS, diverse light variations, including superhumps, quasi-periodic oscillations, large-amplitude orbital modulations, and rotational modulations, are able to be detected in our CV samples, providing key observational clues for understanding the fast-developing physical processes in various CVs. All of these short-timescale light-curve features help further classify the subtypes of CV systems. We highlight the light-curve features observed in our CV sample and discuss further implications of minute-cadence light curves for CV identifications and classifications. Moreover, we examine the Hα emission lines in the spectra from our nonmagnetic CV samples (i.e., dwarf novae and nova-like subclasses) and find that the distribution of Hα emission strength shows significant differences between the sources with orbital periods above and below the period gap, which agrees with the trend seen from the SDSS nonmagnetic CV sample.

Abstract Resection of oral and maxillofacial tumors is often accompanied by the inferior alveolar nerve neurectomy, resulting in abnormal sensation in lower lip. It is generally believed that spontaneous sensory recovery in this nerve injury is difficult. However, during our follow-up, patients with inferior alveolar nerve sacrifice showed different degrees of lower lip sensory recovery. In this study, a prospective cohort study was conducted to demonstrate this phenomenon and analyze the factors influencing sensory recovery. A mental nerve transection model of Thy1-YFP mice and tissue clearing technique were used to explore possible mechanisms in this process. Gene silencing and overexpression experiments were then conducted to detect the changes in cell morphology and molecular markers. In our follow-up, 75% of patients with unilateral inferior alveolar nerve neurectomy had complete sensory recovery of the lower lip 12 months postoperatively. Patients with younger age, malignant tumors, and preservation of ipsilateral buccal and lingual nerves had a shorter recovery time. The buccal nerve collateral sprouting compensation was observed in the lower lip tissue of Thy1-YFP mice. ApoD was demonstrated to be involved in axon growth and peripheral nerve sensory recovery in the animal model. TGF-β inhibited the expression of STAT3 and the transcription of ApoD in Schwann cells through Zfp423. Overall, after sacrificing the inferior alveolar nerve, the collateral compensation of the ipsilateral buccal nerve could innervate the sensation. And this process was regulated by TGF-β-Zfp423-ApoD pathway.

In this paper, we first preprocessed the user’s shopping behavior data, set the prediction goal, constructed the features of the user’s online purchasing behavior prediction model, and classified and selected the constructed features based on the SVM-RFE algorithm. Then, on the basis of the fuzzy neural network algorithm of fuzzy theory, the network purchasing behavior prediction model was constructed by combining the assessment indexes of the prediction model results as well as the 5-fold cross-validation method. Finally, the evaluation results of the prediction model are examined and compared with common prediction algorithms to confirm the performance of the algorithm in this paper. The results show that the average relative error of model training can reach 0.013, and the absolute error with the actual value ranges between [0.01, 0.06]. On the same test set, the F1 value of the prediction model in this paper is between [0.88, 0.91], and the F1 value of the algorithm on each test set has a small difference of only 0.03, and the F1 value of the other prediction models has a maximum difference of 0.09. The prediction model constructed in this paper has a good prediction effect and robustness.

Abstract Background The failure of novel therapies effective in preclinical animal models largely reflects the fact that current models do not really mimic the pathological/therapeutic features of glioblastoma (GBM), in which the most effective temozolomide chemoradiotherapy (RT/TMZ) regimen can only slightly extend survival. How to improve RT/TMZ efficacy remains a major challenge in clinic. Methods Syngeneic G422TN-GBM model mice were subject to RT/TMZ, surgery, piperlongumine (PL), αPD1, glutathione. Metabolomics or transcriptomics data from G422TN-GBM and human GBM were used for gene enrichment analysis and estimation of ROS generation/scavenging balance, oxidative stress damage, inflammation and immune cell infiltration. Overall survival, bioluminescent imaging, immunohistochemistry, and immunofluorescence staining were used to examine therapeutic efficacy and mechanisms of action. Results Here we identified that glutathione metabolism was most significantly altered in metabolomics analysis upon RT/TMZ therapies in a truly refractory and reliable mouse triple-negative GBM (G422TN) preclinical model. Consistently, ROS generators/scavengers were highly dysregulated in both G422TN-tumor and human GBM. The ROS-inducer PL synergized surgery/TMZ, surgery/RT/TMZ or RT/TMZ to achieve long-term survival (LTS) in G422TN-mice, but only one LTS-mouse from RT/TMZ/PL therapy passed the rechallenging phase (immune cure). Furthermore, the immunotherapy of RT/TMZ/PL plus anti-PD-1 antibody (αPD1) doubled LTS (50%) and immune-cured (25%) mice. Glutathione completely abolished PL-synergistic effects. Mechanistically, ROS reduction was associated with RT/TMZ-resistance. PL restored ROS level (mainly via reversing Duox2/Gpx2), activated oxidative stress/inflammation/immune responses signature genes, reduced cancer cell proliferation/invasion, increased apoptosis and CD3+/CD4+/CD8+ T-lymphocytes in G422TN-tumor on the basis of RT/TMZ regimen. Conclusion Our findings demonstrate that PL reverses RT/TMZ-reduced ROS and synergistically resets tumor microenvironment to cure GBM. RT/TMZ/PL or RT/TMZ/PL/αPD1 exacts effective immune cure in refractory GBM, deserving a priority for clinical trials.

Background/purpose: Analysis of endoplasmic reticulum stress (ERS)-related long noncoding RNAs (LncRNAs) may enable prognostic stratification in patients with head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC). This study aimed to comprehensively analyze the ERS-related LncRNAs signature and its effects on the prognosis, tumorigenesis, and tumor immune microenvironment in HNSCC. Materials and methods: The transcriptome data of HNSCC were obtained from TCGA. Least absolute shrinkage selection operator algorithm, and multivariate Cox regression were used to screen LncRNAs for the signature construction. Somatic mutation, gene enrichment, and immune infiltration analyses were further performed. Results: 458 ERS-related LncRNAs were identified and 55 of which were correlated with HNSCC prognosis. Ten ERS-related LncRNAs were selected to establish a risk prediction signature. Owing to the high power consumption and limited control precision of traditional hydraulic drive winch systems, this study proposes hydraulic and electric-type energy recovery systems. The accumulator used in the hydraulic type has low energy density, which makes it difficult to store a large amount of energy. Meanwhile, the electric motor/generator used in the electric type cannot solve the secondary slip because of oil leakage, which leads to low controllability and high-power consumption under near-zero speed and high torque conditions. Thus, based on electric construction machinery with high-pressure, energy-dense electric energy storage units, this study proposes an electro-hydraulic composite drive winch and energy recovery system and control strategy for mobile cranes. Considering the good control characteristics of the electric motor/generator and the high-power density of the hydraulic accumulator, this hydroelectric composite drive and energy recovery system may solve the secondary sliding challenge and ensure large torque output at near-zero speed. A simulation model of the mobile crane is established to verify the feasibility of the proposed system and control strategy. The research results showed that the system is more efficient at recovering energy when the weight is lowered by a greater distance.

Abstract DNA methylation pattern in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) remains poorly described. This study aimed to perform a genome-wide integrated analysis of the transcriptome and methylome and assess the efficacy of their prognostic signature model in patients with OSCC. We analyzed transcriptome and methylome data from 391 OSCC samples and 41 adjacent normal samples. A total of 8074 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) and 10,084 differentially expressed CpGs (DMCpGs) were identified. Then 241 DEGs with DMCpGs were identified. Background There is commonly a discrepancy between conference abstracts and published article abstracts in prosthodontic randomized controlled trials (RCTs), which may mislead the scholars those attend conferences. Objective To identify the characteristics predicting inconsistency between conference abstracts and published article abstracts in prosthodontic RCTs. Methods The conference abstracts of prosthodontic RCTs presented at the IADR general sessions from 2002 to 2015 were searched. Electronic searches of MEDLINE, EMBASE, the Cochrane Library, and Google Scholar databases were conducted to match full-text publications for conference abstracts. Two investigators extracted basic characteristics and assessed the consistency and reporting quality independently and in duplicate. The linear regression model was used to analyze the predictors of inconsistency. Results A total of 147 conference abstracts were matched with published articles. Results for the secondary outcome measure, Statistical analysis, and precision measure were less than 50% consistent, and even nearly 5% of the studies had opposite conclusions. Multiple linear regression analysis showed that three factors were correlated with lower inconsistency, including continent of origin (p = 0.011), presentation type (p = 0.017), and difference in reporting quality (p = 0.013). Conclusion Conference attendees should cautiously treat the findings of the conference abstracts. Researchers should improve the precision of the information delivered at conferences. We recommend the authors of RCTs to explain the primary difference between conference abstracts and article abstracts.

In this study, an integrated system of winch driving and potential energy recovery using a four-quadrant pump was proposed, aimed at the large amount of recoverable gravitational potential energy in a winch system. The proposed system changed the original open system into a closed-structure part, using a four-quadrant pump to drive the winch, and an open-structure part, using an open hydraulic pump to balance torque. The closed-structure and open-structure parts were coaxial, and connected with the engine through the transfer case, which was able to make full use of the four-quadrant pump characteristics. It was able to achieve flow regeneration when the weight was lowered, and to achieve direct use of gravitational potential energy. The AMESim model of the original and proposed systems was further established according to a working characteristics analysis of the energy consumption of the winch-driving system. The simulation results verified that the proposed system kept good controllability while recovering potential energy. An experimental prototype was built; the test results showed that, compared with the original winch system, the proposed system increased lifting speed and reduced fuel consumption significantly. Additionally, diesel consumption was reduced by 87% in the descending process.

This study was to explore the therapeutic effect and mechanism of puerarin (PUE) combined with PEGylated nanoparticles on a rat cerebral infarction cell model. In this context, PEG-PLGA/PUE nanoparticles were prepared by the thin-film hydration method, and the toxicity of PEG-PLGA/PUE nanoparticles to brain capillary endothelial cell (BCEC) was detected by MTT. The BCEC/TF cell model was obtained by induction of BCEC cells with TNF-α. The BCEC/TF cell model was identified by immunofluorescence; the protein expression was detected by western blotting; the expression level of miR-424 in cells was measured by RT-qPCR; the targeting relationship between miR-424 and PDCD4 was confirmed by dual-luciferase reporter assay. We found that PEG-PLGA/PUE nanoparticles prepared by the thin-film hydration method had uniform particle size, regular shape, and good stability and were not toxic to cells. The vWF was widely expressed in the cytoplasm in BCECs. The BCEC/TF cell model was obtained after TNF-α treatment, and tissue factor (TF) was widely expressed on the cell membrane of BCEC/TF cells. Furthermore, it was observed that the PEG-PLGA/PUE nanoparticles showed better therapeutic effect on the BCEC/TF cell model than PUE. PEG-PLGA/PUE nanoparticles and PUE inhibited the expression of PDCD4 protein by increasing the expression of miR-424 in BCEC/TF cells. In summary, the therapeutic effect of PEG-PLGA/PUE nanoparticles on the in vitro cell model of cerebral infarction is better than that of PUE. Moreover, PEG-PLGA/PUE inhibits the expression of PDCD4 protein by lowering the expression level of miR-424 in cells, thereby reducing the hazard of cerebral infarction.

Reliable dynamic mechanical properties of high nitrogen steels are necessary for the design and assessment of armor structures subject to impact and blast. A series of experiments, based on Hopkinson bar techniques, were conducted and described in this study. The dynamic compression, tensile and shear properties of high nitrogen steel had been tested, and the stress-strain curves under high strain rates were obtained. The results have been showed as follows: High nitrogen steel has a remarkable strain rate strengthening effect. Compared to the static curves, the constitutive curves of dynamic tension and compression move upper. The dynamic compressive yield strength of high nitrogen steel increases first and then decreases with the increase of strain rate, and the yield strength varies in the range of 1465–1549 MPa within the range of 1147–2042 s−1 strain rate; The tensile strength of high nitrogen steel increases with the increase of strain rate. When the strain rate is greater than 1341 s−1, the tensile strength will not increase and the curve tends to be gentle. The pure shear yield strength of the high nitrogen steel is above 800 MPa. Landslides (generally including debris flows) seriously threaten life and property. Studies on landslide risk are of great significance for regional disaster prevention and mitigation. In this study, the grid of 1 km ×1 km was selected as the assessment unit to exhibit the spatial distribution of landslide risk in China. With the support of Geographic Information System (GIS) technique, the combined model of certainty factor model (CF) and logistic regression model (LR) was applied to assess the landslide hazard, Liu’s method was used to evaluate the landslide vulnerability, and the product of hazard multiplied by vulnerability was used to represent the landslide risk. The spatial patterns of the hazard, vulnerability and risk of landslides were displayed on the national scale of China. The results indicated that the high hazard zones are commonly distributed in the south of Yangtze River, especially the very high hazard zones are concentrated in the southwest of China. The high vulnerability zones are mainly distributed in the eastern coastal cities with developed economy and dense population. The distributional pattern of landslide risk is approximately divided by Heihe-Tengchong population density line. The west of the line is mainly distributed low risk areas; whereas the east of the line contains moderate and high risk areas. The classes of very low, low, moderate, high and very high risk areas account for 40.51%, 18.34%, 33.86%, 7.28% and 0.01% of the total area respectively. The macro-scale regional assessment is needed in China, which may benefit the top design of landslide risk reduction and territorial functional zoning.

The effect of projectile nose shape on the ballistic performance of the ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) composite was studied through experiments and simulations. Eight projectiles such as conical, flat, hemispherical, and ogival nose projectiles were used in this study. The deformation process, failure mechanisms, and the specific energy absorption (SEA) ability were systematically investigated for analyzing the ballistic responses on the projectile and the UHMWPE composite. The results showed that the projectile nose shape could invoke different penetration mechanisms on the composite. The sharper nose projectile tended to shear through the laminate, causing localized damage zone on the composite. For the blunt nose projectile penetration, the primary deformation features were the combination of shear plugging, tensile deformation, and large area delamination. The maximum value of specific energy absorption (SEA) was 290 J/(kg/m2) for the flat nose projectile penetration, about 3.8 times higher than that for the 30° conical nose projectile. Furthermore, a ballistic resistance analytical model was built based on the cavity expansion theory to predict the energy absorption ability of the UHMWPE composite. The model exhibited a good match between the ballistic resistance curves in simulations with the SEA ability of the UHMWPE composite in experiments.

Heavy forklifts that are widely used in ports and stations have large gravitational potential energy at the lowering of the boom. As concerning the large rated power level, the engine is still the main power source for the heavy forklifts. With the increasingly stringent emissions regulations, the electric heavy forklift becomes an important choice. The structure and the working mode of an electric heavy forklift are introduced. Additionally the schematic of double hydraulic motor-generators is adopted to regenerate the potential energy when the boom is descending. The judge rule of the working mode and control strategy are analyzed. A test rig of a prototype electric heavy forklift is established. Control mode discrimination of potential energy regeneration, the control performance and the influence factors on regeneration efficiency are tested based on the test rig. The experimental results show that the discrimination method of the working mode of the proposed double hydraulic motor-generators with a potential energy regeneration system for potential energy is feasible. The descending of the lifting cylinder is consistent with the handle. The forklift can obtain the good following ability. Although the lifting cylinder descends at low velocity, the velocity is stable and the fluctuation of the rodless chamber pressure is within 0.1 MPa. With the increase of the load mass and descending velocity, the regeneration efficiency increases accordingly. The maximum efficiency is up to 74%. Hence, the proposed potential energy regeneration system is feasible and potential energy regeneration system does not affect the control performance of the boom.

The velocity of the free-piston assembly (FPA) of the hydraulic free-piston engine (HFPE) is very high, which is up to 10 m/s. In order to avoid the collision of the FPA to the cylinder head when the FPA moves towards the dead centres, the cushioning device must be involved. A cushioning structure which combines the sidestep-shape cushion and flute-shape cushion is proposed according to the working principle of the HFPE. The mathematical model of the cushioning is set up, and key parameters are obtained. AMESim is employed to analyse the cushioning process and the influence of the key parameters on the cushioning process. The optimised parameters are obtained according to the simulation. The test rig is established to verify the effectiveness of the cushioning structure according to the optimised parameters. The experiment results show that the proposed cushioning structure is reliable. The maximum pressure during the cushioning process is 19 MPa, and cushioning time is 12 ms. The cushioning structure has little influence on the starting process of HFPE.

This study was designed to explore the protective effect of D4F, an apoA-I mimetic peptide, on oxidized LDL (ox-LDL)-induced endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress-CCAAT/enhancer-binding protein (C/EBP) homologous protein (CHOP) pathway-mediated apoptosis in macrophages. Our results showed that treating apoE knockout mice with D4F decreased the serum ox-LDL level and apoptosis in atherosclerotic lesions with concomitant downregulation of cluster of differentiation 36 (CD36) and inhibition of ER stress. In vitro, D4F inhibited macrophage-derived foam cell formation. Furthermore, like ER stress inhibitor 4-phenylbutyric acid (PBA), D4F inhibited ox-LDL- or tunicamycin (TM, an ER stress inducer)-induced reduction in cell viability and increase in lactate dehydrogenase leakage, caspase-3 activation, and apoptosis. Additionally, like PBA, D4F inhibited ox-LDL- or TM-induced activation of ER stress response as assessed by the reduced nuclear translocation of activating transcription factor 6 and the decreased phosphorylation of protein kinase-like ER kinase and eukaryotic translation initiation factor 2α, as well as the downregulation of glucose-regulated protein 78 and CHOP. Moreover, D4F mitigated ox-LDL uptake by macrophages and CD36 upregulation induced by ox-LDL or TM. These data indicate that D4F can alleviate the formation and apoptosis of macrophage-derived foam cells by suppressing CD36-mediated ox-LDL uptake and subsequent activation of the ER stress-CHOP pathway.

Industrial hemp is a non-wood fiber material that can be used for papermaking due to a high yield of hemp raw material and high-quality physical properties of its pulp. Hemp is already used as a raw material for papermaking and other industrial productions. The chemical composition of hemp root bast (HRB) was analyzed. HRBs were pulped using a soda-anthraquinone (Soda-AQ) process and bleached with oxygen (O), chlorine dioxide (D), and alkali (E) using the bleaching sequence OD0ED1. The results showed that HRB can be a suitable raw material for papermaking; the HRB pulp had a high viscosity (893 mL g-1) and brightness (85.52% ISO-brightness).

To reduce the energy consumption and emissions of the hydraulic excavator, a two-level idle speed control system with a hydraulic accumulator for the construction machinery is proposed to reduce the energy consumption and improve the control performance of the actuator when the idle mode is cancelled. The structure and working principle are analyzed. The hydraulic accumulator (HA) is used to store the energy, which can provide backup pressured fluid when the idle mode is cancelled. Then, a method of how to set the pressure differential between the hydraulic accumulator and the load is proposed and the control law is discussed. The test rig is built. The experimental result shows that the idle speed can be switched among the first idle speed, the second idle speed and the normal speed automatically. Though the idle speed in the novel system can be reduced more than that in the conventional automatic idle speed control system (AISCS), the proposed system can still build the actuator pressure more quickly when the idle mode is cancelled. When compared to the system without the idle speed control, the energy saving of the proposed system is about 67%. The proposed two-level idle speed control system with a HA can achieve a high energy efficiency and a good control performance.

This paper establishes a GIS-based system of vulnerability assessment to landslide hazard for Lushan earthquake-stricken areas. By taking these areas as the study area and ArcGIS 9.3 Software as the platform; with GIS Grid Technology and adopting Contributing Weight Overlay Model, we extract 6 vulnerability assessment indexes including population, economic, and road densities, building and forestland coverage, and landslide hazard affected areas. Besides, it compiles vulnerability zoning maps to landslide hazard by means of Natural Breaks Classification. The results show that the high, middle, and low vulnerability zones occupy 17.93%, 61.54%, and 20.53% of the total area respectively. The vulnerability level is positively correlated with the former four indexes; while negatively with the forest coverage. The distribution of landslide hazard affected areas is closely correlated to the intensity of human engineering activities. Contrasted with the field survey ones, the GIS-based zoning results of vulnerability to landslide hazard basically correspond with the actual situation of Lushan earthquake-stricken areas, and can thus be applied in guiding the post-disaster restoration and construction, settlement relocation, and population distribution readjustment.

Relief valves are widely used in industrial machinery. Due to the outlet of the relief valve being connected to the tank, the pressure drop of the relief valve is frequently equal to the inlet pressure. Accordingly, the energy loss of the relief valve is very high in some cases and this will worsen with an increase in the rated pressure of the hydraulic system. In order to overcome the disadvantage of overflow energy loss in a relief valve, a hydraulic energy regeneration unit (HERU) is connected to the outlet of the relief valve to decrease the pressure drop between the inlet and outlet of the relief valve. The overflow loss, which is characterized by the pressure drop, can be reduced accordingly. The approach is to convert the overflow energy loss in hydraulic form and allow for release when needed. The configuration and working principle of the relief valve with HERU is introduced in this present study. The mathematical model is established to obtain the factors influencing the stability of the relief valve. The working pressure of the hydraulic accumulator (HA) is explored. Furthermore, the control process of the operating state of the HA is scheduled to decide whether to regenerate the energy via the HERU. The software AMESim is utilized to analyze the performance and characteristics of the relief valve with HERU. Following this, the test rig is built and used to verify the effectiveness of the proposed relief valve with HERU. The experimental results show that the relief valve with the HERU connected to its outlet can still achieve better pressure-regulating characteristics. The energy regeneration efficiency saved by the HA is up to 83.6%, with a higher pre-charge pressure of the HA. This indicates that the proposed structure of the relief valve with HERU can achieve a better performance and higher regeneration efficiency.
