Power capacitor device is a widely used reactive power compensation equipment in power transmission and distribution system which can easily have internal fault and therefore affects the safe operation of the power system. An intelligent non-destructive testing (I-NDT) method based on ICT is proposed to test the quality of power capacitors automatically in this study. The internal structure of power capacitors would be scanned by the ICT device and then defects could be recognized by the SSD algorithm. Moreover, the data data augmentation algorithm is used to extend the image set to improve the stability and accuracy of the trained SSD model.

In this study, a multi-grid sampling multi-scale (MGSMS) method is proposed by coupling with finite element (FEM), extended finite element (XFEM) and molecular dynamics (MD) methods.Crack is studied comprehensively from microscopic initiations to macroscopic propagation by MGSMS method. In order to establish the coupling relationship between macroscopic and microscopic model, multi-grid FEM is used to transmit the macroscopic displacement boundary conditions to the atomic model and the multi-grid XFEM is used to feedback the microscopic crack initiations to the macroscopic model. Moreover, an image recognition based crack extracting method is proposed to extract the crack coordinate from the MD result files of efficiently and the Latin hypercube sampling method is used to reduce the computational cost of MD. Numerical results show that MGSMS method can be used to calculate micro-crack initiations and transmit it to the macro-crack model. A representative volume element (RVE) based multi-scale method is proposed to investigate the mechanism of fatigue crack propagation by the molecular dynamics (MD) and the extended finite element methods(XFEM) in this study. An atomic model of carbon steel plate is built to study the behavior of fatigue crack at the micro scale by MD method. Then the RVE model for fatigue crack propagation should be built by fitting the data which was obtained from the MD result with the Paris law model. Moreover, the effect of micro-structural defects including interstitial atoms, vacancies have also been considered in this study. The results indicate that the micro-structural defects can deeply influence the values of Paris law constants and the life of the specimen can be evaluated by the proposed method.

In this study, the crack propagation of the pre-cracked mono-crystal nickel with the voids and inclusions has been investigated by molecular dynamics simulations. Different sizes of voids, inclusions and materials of inclusions are used to fully study the effect of the voids and inclusions during the crack propagation process. The dislocations evolution, stress distribution and crack length are analyzed as the associated mechanical properties. The results indicate that the voids and inclusions can change the path of crack propagation of the pre-cracked mono-crystal nickel. Moreover, the results show that the voids and inclusions can lead a better resistance to plastic deformation of the mono-crystal and the inclusions can make the system more difficult to fracture.

This study proposed a closed loop image aided optimization (CLIAO) method to improve the quality of deposition during the cold spray process. Some recent research shows that the quality of deposition measured by flattening ratio of the bonded particle is associated with impact velocity, angle and particle size. Therefore, the original idea of CLIAO is to improve the quality of deposition by obtaining the maximum flattening ratio which is extracted from the molecular dynamics (MD) simulation snapshots directly. To complete this strategy, a Python script is suggested to generate the required snapshots from result files automatically and the image processing technique is used to evaluate the flattening ratio from the snapshots. Moreover, three optimization methods including surrogate optimization (Efficient Global Optimization) and heuristic algorithms (Particle Swarm Optimization, Different Evolution algorithm) are engaged. Then a back propagation neural network (BPNN) is used to accelerate the process of optimization, where the BPNN is used to build the meta-model instead of the forward calculation. The optimization result demonstrates that all the above methods can obtain the acceptable solution. An Iterative Reanalysis Approximation (IRA) is integrated with the Moving Morphable Components (MMCs) based topology optimization (IRA-MMC) in this study. Compared with other classical topology optimization methods, the Finite Element (FE) based solver is replaced with the suggested IRA method. In this way, the expensive computational cost can be significantly saved by several nested iterations. The optimization of linearly elastic planar structures is constructed by the MMC, the specifically geometric parameters of which are taken as design variables to acquire explicitly geometric boundary. In the suggested algorithm, a hybrid optimizer based on the Method of Moving Asymptotes (MMA) approach and the Globally Convergent version of the Method of Moving Asymptotes (GCMMA) is suggested to improve convergence ratio and avoid local optimum. A controllable crack propagation (CCP) strategy is suggested. It is well known that crack always leads the failure by crossing the critical domain in engineering structure. Therefore, the CCP method is proposed to control the crack to propagate along the specified path, which is away from the critical domain. To complete this strategy, two optimization methods are engaged. Firstly, a back propagation neural network (BPNN) assisted particle swarm optimization (PSO) is suggested. In this method, to improve the efficiency of CCP, the BPNN is used to build the metamodel instead of the forward evaluation. Secondly, the popular PSO is used. Considering the optimization iteration is a time consuming process, an efficient reanalysis based extended finite element methods (X-FEM) is used to substitute the complete X-FEM solver to calculate the crack propagation path. Moreover, an adaptive subdomain partition strategy is suggested to improve the fitting accuracy between real crack and specified paths. Several typical numerical examples demonstrate that both optimization methods can carry out the CCP. This study suggests a fast computational method for crack propagation, which is based on the extended finite element method (X-FEM). It is well known that the X-FEM might be the most popular numerical method for crack propagation. However, with the increase of complexity of the given problem, the size of FE model and the number of iterative steps are increased correspondingly. To improve the efficiency of X-FEM, an efficient computational method termed decomposed updating reanalysis (DUR) method is suggested. For most of X-FEM simulation procedures, the change of each iterative step is small and it will only lead a local change of stiffness matrix. Therefore, the DUR method is proposed to predict the modified response by only calculating the changed part of equilibrium equations. Compared with other fast computational methods, the distinctive characteristic of the proposed method is to update the modified stiffness matrix with a local updating strategy, which only the changed part of stiffness matrix needs to be updated. To verify the performance of the DUR method, several typical numerical examples have been analyzed and the results demonstrate that this method is a highly efficient method with high accuracy., Comment: 22 figures, 6 tables

This study presents a meshless-based local reanalysis (MLR) method. The purpose of this study is to extend reanalysis methods to the Kriging interpolation meshless method due to its high efficiency. In this study, two reanalysis methods: combined approximations CA) and indirect factorization updating (IFU) methods are utilized. Considering the computational cost of meshless methods, the reanalysis method improves the efficiency of the full meshless method significantly. Compared with finite element method (FEM)-based reanalysis methods, the main superiority of meshless-based reanalysis method is to break the limitation of mesh connection. The meshless-based reanalysis is much easier to obtain the stiffness matrix even for solving the mesh distortion problems. However, compared with the FEM-based reanalysis method, the critical challenge is to use much more nodes in the influence domain due to high order interpolation. Therefore, a local reanalysis method which only needs to calculate the local stiffness matrix in the influence domain is suggested to improve the efficiency further.
