Renal interstitial fibrosis is an important mechanism in the progression of chronic kidney disease (CKD) to end-stage kidney disease. However, we lack specific treatments to slow or halt renal fibrosis. Ribosome profiling identified upregulation of a secreted micropeptide, C4orf48 (Cf48), in mouse diabetic nephropathy. Cf48 RNA and protein levels were upregulated in tubular epithelial cells in human and experimental CKD. Serum Cf48 levels were increased in human CKD and correlated with loss of kidney function, increasing CKD stage, and the degree of active interstitial fibrosis. Cf48 overexpression in mice accelerated renal fibrosis, while Cf48 gene deletion or knockdown by antisense oligonucleotides significantly reduced renal fibrosis in CKD models. In vitro, recombinant Cf48 (rCf48) enhanced TGF-[beta]1- induced fibrotic responses in renal fibroblasts and epithelial cells independently of Smad3 phosphorylation. Cellular uptake of Cf48 and its profibrotic response in fibroblasts operated via the transferrin receptor. RNA immunoprecipitation- sequencing identified Cf48 binding to mRNA of genes involved in the fibrotic response, including Serpine1, Acta2, Ccn2, and Col4a1. rCf48 binds to the 3'UTR of Serpine1 and increases mRNA half-life. Fluorescence intensity ratio (FIR) technology is compulsorily needed in non-contact rare-earth luminescent temperature sensors. Here, we present Er/Yb:Y3Al5O12 phosphors synthesized via a high-temperature solid-state reaction method. The crystal structure, microstructure, up-conversion luminescence, and energy transfer between the two ions have been comprehensively analyzed. Under 980-nm excitation, the samples exhibited four distinct transition bands at 475 nm, 525 nm, 546 nm, and 664 nm. The quantum efficiency reached 12.14%. Utilizing the thermally coupled level of I525/I546 as a basis for analysis yields a maximum relative sensitivity of 1.05% K−1. We observed that the spectral color coordinates varied linearly with temperature within a specific range, suggesting its potential application as a means of temperature measurement. Furthermore, employing the non-thermally coupled levels of I546/I475 for temperature measurement results in an impressive maximum absolute sensitivity of 8.05% K−1, nearly 24 times higher than that achieved through thermally coupled levels alone. The temperature resolution of the synthetic material is basically less than 0.3 K with high thermal stability. Background and Aim: Lipid metabolism disorder is the primary feature of numerous refractory chronic diseases. Fatty acid oxidation, an essential aerobic biological process, is closely related to the progression of NAFLD. The forkhead transcription factor FOXO1 has been reported to play an important role in lipid metabolism. However, the molecular mechanism through which FOXO1 regulates fatty acid oxidation remains unclear. Methods: Transcriptomic analysis was performed to examine the cellular expression profile to determine the functional role of FOXO1 in HepG2 cells with palmitic acid (PA)‐induced lipid accumulation. FOXO1‐binding motifs at the promoter region of aldehyde dehydrogenase 1 family member L2 (ALDH1L2) were predicted via bioinformatic analysis and confirmed via luciferase reporter assay. Overexpression of ALDH1L2 was induced to recover the impaired fatty acid oxidation in FOXO1‐knockout cells. Results: Knockout of FOXO1 aggravated lipid deposition in hepatic cells. Transcriptomic profiling revealed that knockout of FOXO1 increased the expression of genes associated with fatty acid synthesis but decreased the expression of carnitine palmitoyltransferase1a (CPT1α) and adipose triglyceride lipase (ATGL), which contribute to fatty acid oxidation. Mechanistically, FOXO1 was identified as a transcription factor of ALDH1L2. Knockout of FOXO1 significantly decreased the protein expression of ALDH1L2 and CPT1α in vitro and in vivo. Furthermore, overexpression of ALDH1L2 restored fatty acid oxidation in FOXO1‐knockout cells. Objectives: The relationship between the middle temporal (MTG) and occipital cortices in post‐lingually deaf (PLD) individuals is unclear. This study aimed to investigate changes in the MTG and occipital cortices excitability and their effects on the occipital cortex in individuals with PLD after receiving a cochlear implant (CI). Methods: Twenty‐six individuals with severe‐to‐profound binaural sensorineural PLD were assessed clinically. Nine individuals had received a unilateral cochlear implant over 6 months, while 17 had not. Brodmann area 19 (BA19, extra‐striate occipital cortex) and MTG (auditory‐related area of cortex) were selected as regions of interest. The excitability of the ROI was observed and compared in the surgery and no‐surgery groups by functional near‐infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) in the resting state, and correlations between connectivity of the MTG and occipital cortex, and as well as the duration of time that had elapsed following CI surgery, were investigated. Results: fNIRS revealed enhanced global cortical connectivity in the BA19 and MTG on the operative side (p < 0.05) and the connectivity between BA19 and the MTG also increased (p < 0.05). The connectivity between the MTG and BA19 was positively correlated with the duration of cochlear implantation, as was the case for BA18. Conclusion: There was evidence for remodeling of the cerebral cortex: increased excitability was observed in the MTG and BA19, and their connectivity was enhanced, indicating a synergistic effect. The rapid progress in biomedical imaging technology has generated considerable interest in new non-invasive photoacoustic endoscopy imaging techniques. This emerging technology offers significant benefits, including high spectral specificity, strong tissue penetration, and real-time multidimensional high-resolution imaging capabilities, which enhance clinical diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer. This paper delivers a thorough review of current prostate cancer screening techniques, the core principles of photoacoustic endoscopy imaging, and the latest research on its use in detecting prostate cancer.
