Abstract

Ninu (greater bilby, Macrotis lagotis) are desert-dwelling, culturally and ecologically important marsupials. In collaboration with Indigenous rangers and conservation managers, we generated the Ninu chromosome-level genome assembly (3.66 Gbp) and genome sequences for the extinct Yallara (lesser bilby, Macrotis leucura). We developed and tested a scat single-nucleotide polymorphism panel to inform current and future conservation actions, undertake ecological assessments and improve our understanding of Ninu genetic diversity in managed and wild populations. We also assessed the beneficial impact of translocations in the metapopulation (N = 363 Ninu). Resequenced genomes (temperate Ninu, 6; semi-arid Ninu, 6; and Yallara, 4) revealed two major population crashes during global cooling events for both species and differences in Ninu genes involved in anatomical and metabolic pathways. Despite their 45-year captive history, Ninu have fewer long runs of homozygosity than other larger mammals, which may be attributable to their boom-bust life history. Here we investigated the unique Ninu biology using 12 tissue transcriptomes revealing expression of all 115 conserved eutherian chorioallantoic placentation genes in the uterus, an XY1Y2 sex chromosome system and olfactory receptor gene expansions. Together, we demonstrate the holistic value of genomics in improving key conservation actions, understanding unique biological traits and developing tools for Indigenous rangers to monitor remote wild populations.

Abstract

We present the results of a beam test conducted on a telescope using the JadePix-3 pixel sensor, developed with TowerJazz 180 nm CMOS imaging technology. The telescope is composed of five planes, each equipped with a JadePix-3 sensor with pitches of 26 um x 16 um and 23.11 um x 16 um. In addition, it features an FPGA-based synchronous readout system. The telescope underwent testing using an electron beam with energy ranging from 4 to 6 GeV. At an electron energy of 5.4 GeV, the telescope demonstrated superior spatial resolutions of 2.6 and 2.3 um in two dimensions. By designating the central plane as the device under test, we evaluated the JadePix-3 sensor's spatial resolutions as 5.2 and 4.6 um in two dimensions, achieving a detection efficiency of over 99%.

Abstract

Substituting rubber particles for a portion of the standard coarse aggregates in concrete is regarded as a sustainable solution for tackling the issue of waste-tires disposal. In order to assess the structural performance of rubber concrete (RC), many studies have been conducted on the proportions, mechanical properties, curing conditions, usages, and serviceability performance of the material over the decades. This review systematically summarizes the mechanical properties (e.g., static and dynamic), testing method, and durability of RC, emphasizing its dynamic characteristics from the perspectives of material and component. The inclusion of rubber particles weakens the static properties of the concrete, while the low module of inherent rubbers improves the concrete dynamic properties, such as low stiffness degradation, high strain-rate sensitivity, excellent energy dissipations, and good ductility. With the increase in the strain rate, the improvement in energy absorption and ductility of the RC (0 to 30%) can increase to 110% and 80%, respectively. Concrete with a rubber volume fraction of less than 30% enhances both mechanical and long-term environmental performances. Moreover, RC shows good fire resistance, permeability, and freeze–thaw behavior; however, further research is needed to understand its constitutive model and the synergistic effects of additional materials.

Abstract

ObjectiveThis study aimed to provide references for the demonstration and guiding effects of food safety demonstration city creation， quantitative assessment， and empirical research on the social co-governance level of food safety risks in Zhejiang Province by analyzing the fuzzy analytic hierarchy process.MethodsA comprehensive evaluation index system and its weight coefficient was established through literature research， the Delphi method， and an analytic hierarchy process combined with the national and local food safety demonstration city standards. Subsequently， experts were invited to assess and score application materials based on the fuzzy synthesis method； then， the results of social co-governance could be quantized.ResultsThe food safety social co-governance evaluation index system developed contained four primary indices， 12 secondary indices， and 34 tertiary indices. According to the weight sort， local governments and enterprises were still the two principal parts of regional food security. Public and other social groups were explored in the collaborative governance as the third party forces. In addition， local governments， enterprises， new media， guilds， and the public should strengthen the party and the government should have a co-responsibility and guarantee resources， obtain certificates， and perform self-inspections following the law， and monitor and report public opinion information， assist high-quality local industry development， and participate in supervision through multiple channels. Although the overall level of food safety social co-governance was at the “very good” level， the internal indicators still differed within the three co-created cities. The main weak link was social coordination， which was at a “good” level.ConclusionThe index system can fit the need for the evaluation of food safety social co-governance. Hence， it has practical application value in the establishment and guiding effects of food safety demonstration cities.

23. The Reasonable Crowd: Towards evidence-based and interpretable models of driving behavior

Abstract

Autonomous vehicles must balance a complex set of objectives. There is no consensus on how they should do so, nor on a model for specifying a desired driving behavior. We created a dataset to help address some of these questions in a limited operating domain. The data consists of 92 traffic scenarios, with multiple ways of traversing each scenario. Multiple annotators expressed their preference between pairs of scenario traversals. We used the data to compare an instance of a rulebook, carefully hand-crafted independently of the dataset, with several interpretable machine learning models such as Bayesian networks, decision trees, and logistic regression trained on the dataset. To compare driving behavior, these models use scores indicating by how much different scenario traversals violate each of 14 driving rules. The rules are interpretable and designed by subject-matter experts. First, we found that these rules were enough for these models to achieve a high classification accuracy on the dataset. Second, we found that the rulebook provides high interpretability without excessively sacrificing performance. Third, the data pointed to possible improvements in the rulebook and the rules, and to potential new rules. Fourth, we explored the interpretability vs performance trade-off by also training non-interpretable models such as a random forest. 30. Fair Multi-party Machine Learning -- a Game Theoretic approach

Abstract

High performance machine learning models have become highly dependent on the availability of large quantity and quality of training data. To achieve this, various central agencies such as the government have suggested for different data providers to pool their data together to learn a unified predictive model, which performs better. However, these providers are usually profit-driven and would only agree to participate inthe data sharing process if the process is deemed both profitable and fair for themselves. Due to the lack of existing literature, it is unclear whether a fair and stable outcome is possible in such data sharing processes. Hence, we wish to investigate the outcomes surrounding these scenarios and study if data providers would even agree to collaborate in the first place. Tapping on cooperative game concepts in Game Theory, we introduce the data sharing process between a group of agents as a new class of cooperative games with modified definition of stability and fairness. Abstract

The rock bolting construction equipment is an important part of the complete set of bolt support technology in coal roadway, which directly affects the speed and quality of rock bolting. After a long period of development, China's coal mines have developed various forms of rock bolting equipment, including single bolter, mobile bolter, roadheader bolter, bolter miner, bolter conveyor and straddle bolter. This paper systematically analyzes the development history, technical performance, technical parameters, applicable conditions and latest development of six kinds of rock bolting construction equipment. The single bolter is light, flexible and mature in technology, forming a series of products, which are widely used. The onboard bolter can be integrated on different platforms to form a variety of integrated construction equipment. The mobile bolter has formed a variety of models from two arms to nine arms. It can closely follow the heading equipment, work alternately with the heading equipment, and complete the rock bolting construction with multi-arm cooperation and multi-arm parallel operation. The onboard bolter is equipped on the cantilever roadheader, and various types of roadheader bolters are developed, realizing two functions of heading and bolt construction. The bolter miner has realized localization. The bolter miner with forward moveable bolting platform, shield type bolter miner and bolter miner with the integration of drilling and bolting are developed. The bolter conveyor from two arms to seven arms and the ten-arm straddle bolter are developed. The rock bolting, heading and transportation have been carried out in different zones. This paper introduces the technology and equipment of rock bolting with the integration of drilling and bolting. They include bolt with the integration of drilling and bolting, pump-injected anchoring agent, onboard bolter with the integration of drilling and bolting, drill box, rock bolt bin, anchoring agent pump-injection system and intelligent control system. The traditional six-step rock bolt construction process is simplified into one continuous process. It realizes the automatic operation of 'one key rock bolting', significantly improving the speed and automation degree of rock bolting. The paper points out the development trend of rock bolting construction equipment in coal roadway. The trend includes following aspects: the digital intelligent bolt onboard bolter, onboard bolter positioning, pose self-adjustment and multi-onboard bolter collaborative control technology; the optimization of bolt (cable) structure and materials, upgrading of anchor grouting materials and improvement of construction equipment; the environmental dynamic sensing and stability discrimination of surrounding rock with heading; the fault diagnosis technology of rock bolting construction equipment and the online monitoring of roadway surrounding rock deformation and bolt load; establishing a big data platform to realize automation and intelligenitization of rock bolting.
