This study proposed novel designs for achieving self-centering (SC) behavior using superelastic shape memory alloy (SMA) buckling-restrained plates (BRPs). Compared with previous studies relying on small-diameter SMA bars, this study employed large-dimensional SMA plates that could provide sufficient strength for real construction projects. The design concept and configurations of SMA-BRPs were first introduced. Corresponding tests were then conducted. Three specimens were tested, including one that was unsatisfactory and two that were acceptable. Based on the initial examination of the behavior and failure mode of the unsatisfactory trial specimen, the corresponding modifications were made to achieve the improved performance of two acceptable specimens. Subsequently, the hysteresis and SC behaviors, energy dissipation capacity, and yielding strength degradation of the two acceptable specimens were investigated. Both specimens exhibited high-quality flag-shaped behaviors in their tension–compression cycles, with their strengths reaching around 200 kN under tension and more than 310 kN under compression, representing one of the largest strength values shown by a single SMA element in the literature. Asymmetric behavior was observed under tensile and compressive loadings, primarily due to the asymmetric behavior of the SMA base material, high-mode inelastic buckling under compression and friction between the SMA core plate and buckling-restraining device. After the tests, finite element models were developed to obtain an in-depth understanding of the detailed behavior of SMA-BRPs. The studies showed that SMA-BRPs successfully achieved the SC buckling-restraining design target. This paper investigates a steel moment resisting frame (MRF) with a novel type of self‐centering (SC) base isolators, wherein superelastic shape memory alloy (SMA) U‐shaped dampers (SMAUDs) work as core components. A two‐story steel MRF model equipped with two SMAUD‐based isolators was designed and built in the laboratory, and a series of shake table tests were conducted to examine the dynamic behavior and seismic performance of the frame. Throughout all the tests, no interventions, such as repair or replacement of frame or isolator members, were done. Shake table test results demonstrated that the SMAUD‐based isolators could withstand multiple strong earthquakes with stable SC behavior. The utilization of SMAUD‐based isolators provided effective protection for the frame, enabling it to restore its original position with minimal structural damage. A numerical model of the tested steel MRF with SMAUD‐based isolators was also built. The results obtained from the numerical analyses agreed with those of the shake table tests satisfactorily. A comparative study of the seismic performance between the MRF with SMAUD‐based isolators and the MRF with traditional steel U‐shaped damper‐based isolators was also conducted in the shake table tests. The results showed that SMAUD‐based isolators not only inherit the isolation function of conventional isolators to protect the frame but also possess an SC ability to eliminate residual isolator deformation effectively. This study proposed a novel type of self-centering (SC) timber beam–column connection utilizing shape memory alloy (SMA) bars and investigated its cyclic behavior through experimental and numerical studies. In this SC connection, anchor bars consisting of SMA bars, steel bars, and couplers were utilized to connect the beam and column and achieve SC and energy dissipation capabilities. The configuration of the SC timber beam–column connection and material properties of the SMA bars were first introduced. The cyclic behavior of the SC timber beam–column connection was systematically investigated through experimental and numerical studies. A series of cyclic loading tests were conducted on the SC timber beam–column connection to evaluate its stiffness, SC, and energy dissipation capabilities, and the effect of multiearthquake loading. A detailed finite element model of the timber connection was also built and validated using the experimental results. Results indicated that the timber connection could exhibit a desirable flag-shaped hysteretic behavior, indicating favorable SC and moderate energy dissipation capabilities. The connection remained functional without any repair work after experiencing two consecutive cyclic loads up to 4% drift ratios, demonstrating its potential to withstand multiple seismic events. Exoristobia philippinensis (Hymenoptera: Encyrtidae) is a worldwide parasitic wasp. This work presents the mitochondrial genome (mitogenome) of E. philippinensis for the first time. The complete mitochondrial genome of E. philippinensis was sequenced and annotated, which was 15,751 bp in length, and encoded 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 22 transfer RNA genes (tRNAs), and two ribosomal RNA genes (rRNAs). All 13 PCGs were initiated by the ATN (ATG, ATT, and ATA) codon, terminated with the stop codon TAA except for ND1 which ends with TAG. Phylogenetic analysis showed that E. philippinensis has a sister relationship with the genus Lamennaisia. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

It is clear that the advantages of fibre glass-reinforced plastics surpass those of steel, but the failure analysis of composite structures is much more complex than that of isotropic materials as composite materials may fail in a variety of ways. In order to simulate the damage and fracture of bolted joints of fibre reinforced composite, the bond-based peridynamic method suitable for elastic, brittle and anisotropic characteristics of composite material is used. The peridynamic model for composite laminate is validated by the finite element method. Then a peridynamic program of composite damage is applied to calculating the damage of bolted joint structure and the damage propagation process and failure mode of the structure is obtained.
