Magnetic Barkhausen noise (MBN) technology is widely used to reveal the microscopic mechanism of magnetomechanical phenomena, but the morphological transition induced by tension has not yet been confirmed by experimental measurements. Here, we report a novel effect on the morphology transition of MBN signals due to tensile stress with pre-introduced strain. We present a power-law relation between the critical stress for the morphology transition and the degree of pre-introduced strain, highlighting the strong correlation between plastic deformation and MBN response. Through comprehensive microscopic simulations, we reveal that dislocations localized in regions with distinct densities trigger different MBN avalanches, thereby leading to a bimodal morphology of the MBN signal. Upon reloading, an effective field introduced by stress promotes the realignment of the magnetic domains, thereby resulting in the formation of a unimodal morphology of the MBN signal. Our unprecedented findings provide valuable insights into the correlation between deformation and MBN signal response, thereby opening a new avenue for designing and optimizing ferromagnetic materials with tailored magnetic behavior. The elastic mechanical behaviour of materials is very important to the design and service safety evaluation of mechanical load components. In order to accurately measure the elastic mechanical behaviour of metal structures with a non-destructive testing way, a dual-mode bulk-wave electromagnetic acoustic transducer (EMAT) is developed for both ultrasonic longitudinal wave and shear wave measurement. The elastic modulus and Poisson's ratio of metals are directly obtained with the velocities of the longitudinal and shear waves. In order to improve the efficiency of electromagnetic acoustic transducer, the electromagnetic acoustic parameters were characterised and optimised by numerical simulation. The results show that the developed dual-mode EMAT can successfully excite and receive longitudinal and shear waves, and the elastic modulus and Poisson's ratio of different materials (copper, aluminium and steel) obtained through experiments using the developed dual-mode EMAT are very close to the reference values. Nondestructive testing (NDT) for damage in thermal barrier coatings (TBCs) is significant for the safety guarantee of gas turbine blades. As a new NDT technology, electromagnetic acoustic transducer (EMAT) is widely applied for NDT of conductive structural components due to its advantages of coupling-free and high adaptability. In this paper, numerical simulations are conducted to study the wave propagation and interaction with delamination defects in TBCs inspected with a Rayleigh wave EMAT of the Lorentz force mechanism. Based on the numerical results, the wave structure in TBC, wave conversion at delamination defect, time domain EMAT signals, and its B-scan images are evaluated and the feasibility of Rayleigh wave EMAT to inspect delamination in TBCs was theoretically clarified. In this paper, an efficient numerical scheme and corresponding fast solver are proposed and implemented for rapid and high-accuracy numerical calculation of the motion-induced eddy current testing (MIECT) forward problems. First, inspired by the time-domain numerical formulation of the MIECT problem, a DFT-based numerical scheme in the frequency-domain was proposed through DFT of the transient excitation magnetic field signals at conductor surface caused by the moving permanent magnet of the MIECT probe. Second, a fast-forward simulator was implemented by further improving the existing Ar code for single-frequency ECT problem and adopting databases approach using the unflawed field information solved and stored a priori. As the key of the fast simulation of the MIECT signal perturbed by defects, a scheme to calculate the pickup signal perturbations was proposed and validated based on the reciprocity theorem. Finally, the validity of the numerical schemes and corresponding fast-forward solver was verified through comparing simulation results with experimental signal. Compared with the full analysis domain methods, the fast simulator can save computational burden up to 1000 times on the premise of not affecting the numerical precision, which enables its being adopted in the inverse analysis of MIECT signals for defect sizing.
