Abstract

An improved method for measuring and potentially monitoring surface particle size using satellite multispectral VNIR-SWIR-TIR ASTER TIR imagery was successfully tested for the Mu Us Desert to Loess Plateau region of China. The remote sensing results were validated against field sample data and published work. This work has implications for establishing a new mineral-based Earth Observation indicator for quantitative monitoring process of desertification.

39. Fabrication and characterization of BaCe0.8Y0.2O2.9-Ce0.85Sm0.15O1.925composite electrolytes for IT-SOFCs

Abstract

The BaCe0.8Y0.2O2.9-Ce0.85Sm0.15O1.925composite electrolytes were prepared with BaCe0.8Y0.2O2.9(BCY) and Ce0.85Sm0.15O1.925(SDC). The SDC and BCY powders were mixed in the weight ratio of 95:5, 85:15, and 75:25, respectively (named as BS95, BS85, and BS75). Because of the composite effect between the SDC and BCY phases, the BS95 and BS85 exhibit improved conductivity compared with the pure SDC and BCY. The conductivity of BS95 is higher than that of BS85, indicating that the composite effect of BS95 is greater than that of BS85. Nevertheless, the composite effect in BS75 does not exist. Hence, we conclude that the composite effect in the BCY-SDC composites will decrease with the increase of the amount of BCY and even disappear when the amount of BCY exceeds a certain value. In our case, the optimum composition of the composite electrolyte is 95 wt% SDC and 5 wt% BCY. The BS95 has the highest conductivity (σt= 0.07808 S cm−1, at 800 °C) and the fuel cell based on the BS95 shows the best performance (the maximum power density reaches as high as 526 mw cm−2at 750 °C). The encouraging results suggest that the BCY-SDC composites are the very promising electrolyte materials for IT-SOFCs.

Abstract

Abstract: To obtain 1064nm/532nm/660nm three wavelength lasers operating simultaneously or singly, a novel LD side-pumped Nd3+:YAG laser system with acousto-optic Q-switched and nonlinear frequency conversion technologies was investigated. When the three wavelength lasers output singly and the Pumping power was 103W, 1064nm laser was 14.5W and the green and red lasers reached 4.7W and 1.6W, respectively, at the repetition rate of 10.5kHz and 11.5kHz. When they worked simultaneously, the red, green and infrared lasers were obtained with the output power distribution of 1.0W at 660nm, 4.3W at 532nm and 10.1W at 1064nm, and the instability was less than 2% within 3h. 41. 589-nm yellow laser generation by intra-cavity sum-frequency mixing in a T-shaped Nd:YAG laser cavity

Abstract

To obtain high power 589-nm yellow laser, a T-shaped thermal-insensitive cavity is designed. The optimal power ratio of 1064- and 1319-nm beams is considered and the fundamental spot size distribution from the output mirror to the two laser rods are calculated and simulated, respectively. As a result, a 589-nm yellow laser with the average output power of 5.7 W is obtained in the experiment when the total pumping power is 695 W. The optical-to-optical conversion efficiency from the fundamental waves to the sum frequency generation is about 15.2% and the pulse width is 150 ns at the repetition rate of 18 kHz. The instability of the yellow laser is also measured, which is less than 2% within 3 h. The beam quality factors are M<sup>2</sup><sub>x</sub>=4.96 and M<sup>2</sup><sub>y</sub>= 5.08.
