7. The rationality about the assumption that the signal and decoy states are indistinguishable in decoy-state quantum key distribution

Abstract

Decoy-state quantum key distribution (QKD) has become the most efficient method to resist the photon-number-splitting (PNS) attack and estimate the secure key rate. The decoy-state method has many assumptions, among which a critical one is that an eavesdropper (Eve) cannot distinguish between the signal and decoy states. However, a rigorous proof of the rationality about this assumption is not yet available so far. In fact, due to the difference of photon-number probability distribution between the signal and decoy states, Eve is able to distinguish the two states with a certain probability. In this work, we adopt the Bayesian decision to distinguish the signal and decoy states in one-decoy-state QKD, and perform different PNS attack strategies for the two states according to the previous decision. The numerical simulations indicate that the attack effect is not obvious or even failed. Thus, it is reasonable to assume that the signal and decoy states are indistinguishable in decoy-state QKD. In addition, we also provide the method to set the intensities of signal and decoy states properly, which can not only reduce the preparation cost and improve the communication efficiency, but also avoid the attack from Eve using the intensity difference between the signal and decoy states., Comment: Even Eve can distinguish signal state from decoy state by the Bayesian decision, the yield of signal state and decoy state is still the same only if the photon number is the same. 11. A new method controlling the error probability for detecting the photon-number-splitting attack in the decoy-state quantum key distribution

Abstract

The existing decoy-state quantum key distribution (QKD) beating photon-number-splitting (PNS) attack provides a more accurate method to estimate secure key rate, while it still considers that only single-photon pulses can generate secure keys in any case. However, multiphoton pulses can also generate secure keys if we can confirm that there is no attack. In this paper, under the null hypothesis of no PNS attack, we first determine whether there is an attack or not by retrieving the missing information of the existing decoy-state protocols, extract a Cauchy distribution statistic, and further provide a detection method and the Type I error probability. If the result is judged to be an attack, we can use the existing decoy-state method and the GLLP formula to estimate secure key rate. Otherwise, all pulses received including both single-photon pulses and multiphoton pulses, can be used to generate the keys and we give the secure key rate in this case. Finally, the associated experiments we performed (i.e., the significance level is $5\%$) show the correctness of our method., Comment: In the partial PNS attack, Eve can make the over gain of signal state and decoy state equal to those in normal case and does not increase error rate. Abstract

Single-molecule magnets (SMMs) are promising elements for quantum informatics. In the presence of strong magnetic anisotropy, they exhibit magnetization blocking - a magnetic memory effect at the level of a single molecule. Recent studies have shown that the SMM performance scales with the height of magnetization blocking barrier. By employing molecular engineering this can be significantly modified, remaining independent from other external factors such as magnetic field. Taking advantage of hyperfine coupling of electronic and nuclear spins further enhances their functionality, however, a poor understanding of relaxation mechanisms in such SMMs limits the exploitation of nuclear-spin molecular qubits. Here we report the opening discovery of field-dependent oscillation of the magnetization blocking barrier in a new holmium metallacrown magnet driven by the switch of relaxation mechanisms involving hyperfine interaction. Single-crystal magnetic hysteresis measurements combined with first-principles calculations reveal an activated temperature dependence of magnetic relaxation dominated either by incoherent quantum tunneling of magnetization at anti-crossing points of exchange-hyperfine states or by Orbach-like processes at crossing points. We demonstrate that these relaxation mechanisms can be consecutively switched on and off by increasing the external field, which paves a way for manipulating the magnetization dynamics of SMMs using hyperfine interaction., Comment: 6 pages, 4 figures

Abstract

In order to study the the effect of laser quenching power on the microstructure and wear resistance of the 0Cr13Ni4Mo stainless steel of hydraulic mechinery flow passage component, semiconductor lasers with a laser quenching power of 2.5 kW, 3.0 kW, 3.5 kW respectively were used for surface quenching. The microhardness tester, impact toughness tester, friction and wear tester, and scanning electron microscope were used to analyze and test the microhardness, impact toughness and wear resistance of the three resulting quenched layers. By observing the wear microstructure of the coating, the wear mechanism of the coating was analyzed. Results showed that the microhardness, impact toughness and wear resistance of the laser quenched layer all increased with the rising of laser quenching power. The wear mechanism of the quenched layer was mainly adhesive wear. In general, laser quenching could improve the wear resistance of 0Cr13Ni4Mo stainless steel significantly and it had a prospect of wide application.

39. Research on time-division multiplexing for error correction and privacy amplification in post-processing of quantum key distribution.

Abstract

The post-processing of quantum key distribution mainly includes error correction and privacy amplification. The error correction algorithms and privacy amplification methods used in the existing quantum key distribution are completely unrelated. Based on the principle of correspondence between error-correcting codes and hash function families, we proposed the idea of time-division multiplexing for error correction and privacy amplification for the first time. That is to say, through the common error correction algorithms and their corresponding hash function families or the common hash function families and their corresponding error-correcting codes, error correction and privacy amplification can be realized by time-division multiplexing with the same set of devices. In addition, we tested the idea from the perspective of error correction and privacy amplification, respectively. The analysis results show that the existing error correction algorithms and their corresponding hash function families or the common privacy amplification methods and their corresponding error-correcting codes cannot realize time-division multiplexing for error correction and privacy amplification temporarily. However, according to the principle of correspondence between error-correcting codes and hash function families, the idea of time-division multiplexing is possible. Moreover, the research on time-division multiplexing for error correction and privacy amplification has some practical significance. Once the idea of time-division multiplexing is realized, it will further reduce the calculation and storage cost of the post-processing process, reduce the deployment cost of quantum key distribution, and help to remote the practical engineering of quantum key distribution. 40. Highly Efficient Electrosynthesis of Urea from CO2 and Nitrate by a Metal–Organic Framework with Dual Active Sites.

Abstract

Electrosynthesis of urea from CO2 and NO3− is a sustainable alternative to energy‐intensive industrial processes. The main challenge hindering the progress of this technology lies in the development of advanced electrocatalysts that efficiently utilize abundant, low‐cost CO2 and nitrogen sources to yield urea with both high Faradaic efficiency (FE) and current density. In this work, we designed and prepared a new two‐dimensional metal–organic framework (MOF), namely PcNi−Fe−O, constructed by nickel‐phthalocyanine (NiPc) ligands and square‐planar FeO4 nodes, as the electrocatalyst for urea electrosynthesis. PcNi−Fe−O exhibits remarkable performance to yield urea at a high current density of 10.1 mA cm−2 with a high FE(urea) of 54.1 % in a neutral aqueous solution, surpassing those of most reported electrocatalysts. No obvious performance degradation was observed over 20 hours of continuous operation at the current density of 10.1 mA cm−2. By expanding the electrode area to 25 cm2 and operating for 8 hours, we obtained 0.164 g of high‐purity urea, underscoring its potential for industrial applications. Mechanism study unveiled the enhanced performance might be ascribed to the synergistic interaction between NiPc and FeO4 sites. Specifically, NH3 produced at the FeO4 site can efficiently migrate and couple with the *NHCOOH intermediate adsorbed on the urea‐producing site (NiPc). This synergistic effect results in a lower energy barrier for C−N bond formation than those of the reported catalysts with single active sites. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
