14. Lymph node metastases in middle and upper mediastinum of Siewert type II adenocarcinoma: A real‐world retrospective study.

Abstract

Objective: To explore whether the upper and/or middle mediastinal nodes (UMMN) should be dissected in Siewert type II adenocarcinoma (AC) according to the incidence of lymph node metastasis. Additionally, to investigate the association between the length of esophageal involvement (LEI) and the UMMN metastases. Methods: A cohort with Siewert type II AC who were operated on by a surgical team that routinely treated esophagogastric junction (EGJ) tumors with esophagectomy and extended lymphadenectomy were assessed retrospectively. The primary endpoint of the research was the metastasis rate of UMMN. Results: A total of 94 patients with EGJ tumor from July 2018 to September 2022 were enrolled. Station 106recR (6.4%, 6/94) was the only station among upper mediastinal nodes (UMN) that presented positive nodes. Middle mediastinal nodes (MMN) metastases of station 107, 109 and station 108 were 2.1% (2/94) and 5.0% (4/80), respectively. Among the 11 patients with MMN or UMN metastases, 63.6% (7/11) had lesser than seven metastatic nodes, and 54.5% (6/11) had a pathological N stage ≤2. LEI >3 cm (p = 0.042) showed a higher risk for MMN metastases in univariable logistic analysis. However, no independent risk factor for mediastinal node metastases was detected. Conclusion: This study demonstrated that the incidence of positive MMN and UMN is relatively low in resectable Siewert type II AC, which indicated that it is not necessary to perform a routine dissection upon these stations. LEI >3 cm might be associated with higher risk for mediastinal node metastasis. Certain patients could benefit from extended lymphadenectomy since most of the patients with positive MMN or UMN have a limited number of metastatic nodes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Increased rates of ribosome biogenesis have been recognized as hallmarks of many cancers and are associated with poor prognosis. Using a CRISPR synergistic activation mediator (SAM) system library targeting 89 ribosomal proteins (RPs) to screen for the most oncogenic functional RPs in human esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC), we found that high expression of RPS15 correlates with malignant phenotype and poor prognosis of ESCC. Gain and loss of function models revealed that RPS15 promotes ESCC cell metastasis and proliferation, both in vitro and in vivo. Mechanistic investigations demonstrated that RPS15 interacts with the K homology domain of insulin-like growth factor 2 mRNA-binding protein 1 (IGF2BP1), which recognizes and directly binds the 3′-UTR of MKK6 and MAPK14 mRNA in an m6A-dependent manner, and promotes translation of core p38 MAPK pathway proteins. By combining targeted drug virtual screening and functional assays, we found that folic acid showed a therapeutic effect on ESCC by targeting RPS15, which was augmented by the combination with cisplatin. Inhibition of RPS15 by folic acid, IGF2BP1 ablation, or SB203580 treatment were able to suppress ESCC metastasis and proliferation via the p38 MAPK signaling pathway. Thus, RPS15 promotes ESCC progression via the p38 MAPK pathway and RPS15 inhibitors may serve as potential anti-ESCC drugs. © 2023, The Author(s).

25. Delocalizing electron distribution in thermally activated delayed fluorophors for high-efficiency and long-lifetime blue electroluminescence

Abstract

Blue thermally activated delayed fluorescent emitters are promising for the next generation of organic light-emitting diodes, yet their performance still cannot meet the requirements for commercialization. Here we establish a design rule for highly efficient and stable thermally activated delayed fluorescent emitters by introducing an auxiliary acceptor that could delocalize electron distributions, enhancing molecular stability in both the negative polaron and triplet excited state, while also accelerating triplet-to-singlet up-conversion and singlet radiative processes simultaneously. Proof-of-concept thermally activated delayed fluorescent compounds, based on a multi-carbazole-benzonitrile structure, exhibit near-unity photoluminescent quantum yields, short-lived delays and improved photoluminescent and electroluminescent stabilities. A deep-blue organic light-emitting diode using one of these molecules as a sensitizer for a multi-resonance emitter achieves a remarkable time to 95% of initial luminance of 221 h at an initial luminance of 1,000 cd m−2, a maximum external quantum efficiency of 30.8% and Commission Internationale de l’Eclairage coordinates of (0.14, 0.17).

Abstract

All-polymer solar cells (all-PSCs) have achieved impressive progress in photovoltaic performance and stabilities recently. However, their power conversion efficiencies (PCEs) still trail that of small-molecular acceptor-based organic solar cells (>19%) mainly because of the inferior fill factor (FF). Herein, a combined homo hydrocarbon solvent and sequential deposition (SD) strategy is presented to boost the FF of rigid all-PSCs to 77.7% and achieve a superior PCE of 17.7% with excellent stability, which is among the highest efficiencies reported for all-PSCs thus far. Meanwhile, a remarkable PCE of 14.5% is realized for flexible all-PSCs with outstanding mechanical stability. The blend film morphologies measurements suggest that the SD method enables the formation of an ideal pseudo-bilayer film with bicontinuous interdigitated structure and ordered polymer packing. The numerical simulation result indicates that the FF enhancement mainly results from the efficient exciton diffusion dynamics, increased carrier mobilities, and more balanced electron/hole mobility ratio induced by the developed SD method. This is also confirmed by the FF loss analysis, which manifests that the reduced series resistance and increased shunt resistance are the main reasons for the reduction of FF loss. This work provides a promising strategy to fabricate highly efficient and stable all-PSCs to promote their future development and practical manufacturing. © 2022 Wiley-VCH GmbH.

Abstract

In order to overcome the shortcomings of the existing single terminal leakage protection methods, the leakage protection technology based on multi-terminal information should be studied. Based on the analysis of the characteristics of singlephase leakage faults in low-voltage distribution lines, a leakage protection method based on double terminal residual current sudden changes is proposed in this paper, which uses the amplitudes of the double-terminal residual current sudden changes of the protected section as the protection criteria. The protection will act when the double terminal criteria both meet the requirements of their respective setting thresholds. The realization processes and performances of the method are given in the paper. The double terminal residual current information of the protected section is comprehensively utilized by this method, which can effectively eliminate the influence of unbalanced leakage current of line during normal operation and other factors, reduce protection maloperation and improve the utilization rate of protection. It doesn't need multi-level protection delay coordination and has fast action speed; and it has low setting thresholds and high sensitivity. The effectiveness of the method is verified by MATLAB simulation.
