The supersaturation of sodium aluminate solution in the production of sandy alumina is a pre-requisite for agglomeration and is affected by the caustic sodium concentration and the Na2O/Al2O3 molecular ratio. Experiments carried out to investigate the agglomeration process during seeded precipitation showed that supersaturation of the liquor decreased with increasing caustic sodium concentration, resulting in reduced precipitation ratio and lower particle size of the agglomerate.
