Abstract

Services of personalized TTS systems for the Mandarin-speaking speech impaired are rarely mentioned. Taiwan started the VoiceBanking project in 2020, aiming to build a complete set of services to deliver personalized Mandarin TTS systems to amyotrophic lateral sclerosis patients. This paper reports the corpus design, corpus recording, data purging and correction for the corpus, and evaluations of the developed personalized TTS systems, for the VoiceBanking project. The developed corpus is named after the VoiceBank-2023 speech corpus because of its release year. The corpus contains 29.78 hours of utterances with prompts of short paragraphs and common phrases spoken by 111 native Mandarin speakers. The corpus is labeled with information about gender, degree of speech impairment, types of users, transcription, SNRs, and speaking rates. The VoiceBank-2023 is available by request for non-commercial use and welcomes all parties to join the VoiceBanking project to improve the services for the speech impaired., Comment: submitted to 26th International Conference of the ORIENTAL-COCOSDA

24. Option Pricing via Multi-path Autoregressive Monte Carlo Approach

Abstract

The pricing of financial derivatives, which requires massive calculations and close-to-real-time operations under many trading and arbitrage scenarios, were largely infeasible in the past. However, with the advancement of modern computing, the efficiency has substantially improved. In this work, we propose and design a multi-path option pricing approach via autoregression (AR) process and Monte Carlo Simulations (MCS). Our approach learns and incorporates the price characteristics into AR process, and re-generates the price paths for options. We apply our approach to price weekly options underlying Taiwan Stock Exchange Capitalization Weighted Stock Index (TAIEX) and compare the results with prior practiced models, e.g., Black-Scholes-Merton and Binomial Tree. 26. Dynamical diversity of pulsating solitons in a fiber laser

Abstract

Pulsating behavior is a universal phenomenon in versatile fields. In nonlinear dissipative systems, the solitons could also pulsate under proper conditions and show many interesting dynamics. However, the pulsation dynamics is generally concerned with single soliton case. Herein, by utilizing real-time spectroscopy technique, namely, dispersive Fourier-transform (DFT), we reveal the versatile categories of pulsating solitons in a fiber laser. In particular, the weak to strong explosive behaviors of pulsating soliton, as well as the rogue wave generation during explosions were observed. Moreover, the concept of soliton pulsation was extended to the multi-soliton case. It is found that the simultaneous pulsation of energy, separation and relative phase difference could be observed for solitons inside the molecule, while the pulsations of each individual in multi-soliton bunch could be regular or irregular. These findings would further enrich the ultrafast dynamics of dissipative solitons in nonlinear optical systems.

Abstract

Residual pump peak in fiber-based supercontinuum, as a general phenomenon, limits its practical application. We report a novel supercontinuum generation (SCG) in a conventional highly nonlinear fiber (HNLF) through multiple coherent pump technique, which eliminates the residual pump peak existed in conventional SCG. The multiple coherent pump technique is realized by double bound-state solitons achieved from a homemade modelocked fiber laser. We further compare the SCGs pumped by conventional bound-state soliton and single soliton. It confirms that the effective elimination of the residual pump peak in supercontinuum owes to higher transferring efficiency of the pump energy to new generated frequencies in the multiple coherent pump scheme. The use of multiple coherent pump scheme, i.e., double bound-state solitons, provides a new, simple and promising method to obtain flat supercontinuum source., Comment: 8 pages,5 figures

32. A Scaffolding Assembly Deficiency Detection System with Deep Learning and Augmented Reality

Abstract

Scaffoldings play a critical role as temporary structures in supporting construction processes. Accidents at construction sites frequently stem from issues related to scaffoldings, including insufficient support caused by deviations from the construction design, insecure rod connections, or absence of cross-bracing, which result in uneven loading and potential collapse, leading to casualties. This research introduces a novel approach employing deep learning (i.e., YOLO v5) and augmented reality (AR), termed the scaffolding assembly deficiency detection system (SADDS), designed to aid field inspectors in discerning deficiencies within scaffolding assemblies. Inspectors have the flexibility to utilize SADDS through various devices, such as video cameras, mobile phones, or AR goggles, for the automated identification of deficiencies in scaffolding assemblies. The conducted test yielded satisfactory results, with a mean average precision of 0.89 and individual precision values of 0.96, 0.82, 0.90, and 0.89 for qualified frames and frames with the missing cross-tie rod, missing lower-tie rod, and missing footboard deficiencies, respectively. Subsequent field tests conducted at two construction sites demonstrated improved system performance compared to the training test. Furthermore, the advantages and disadvantages of employing mobile phones and AR goggles were discussed, elucidating certain limitations of the SADDS system, such as self-occlusion and efficiency issues.

43. Appropriateness of Sildenafil Prescribing in Pulmonary Hypertension with Valvular Heart Disease: A Single Centre Study

Abstract

Oral sildenafil has proven efficacy in pulmonary hypertension in current clinical practice. However, there is a research gap in sildenafil prescribing among patients with valvular heart disease (VHD) and pulmonary hypertension (PH) in Malaysia. This study aimed to determine the appropriateness of sildenafil prescribing and rehospitalization rate in patients with corrected VHD and PH. This is a retrospective descriptive study using universal sampling with a calculated sampling size of 123. Patients who were diagnosed with VHD and PH in Hospital Serdang were recruited from 2014 - 2018. Patients' demographic and clinical characteristics were retrieved from Electronic Hospital Information System (eHIS) and recorded using a pre-designed data collection form. Appropriateness prescribing of sildenafil included appropriate dose(20mg to 80mg three times daily) and duration(total of eight weeks of sildenafil treatment that started before and continued after surgery). Rehospitalization is defined as any hospitalization within six months after surgery. Data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. From 123 patients (44.7% male, 55.3% female), 41% (n=51) and 61.8%(n=76) received appropriate dose and duration of Sildenafil respectively. Rehospitalization rate within six months after valve surgery was 55.3%(n=68). Univariate analysis showed that patients more than 65 years old (p=0.039), atrial fibrillation (AF) (p=0.04) and female (p=0.002) received appropriate prescribing of sildenafil. Only female patients and patients with AF were the predictors of appropriate prescribing of sildenafil. The role of sildenafil in VHD and PH remains unclear and needs further research in different perspectives such as short term and long-term duration with different doses.
