The new type of EAS array consisting of EN-detectors possesses the ability to discriminate the composition of cosmic rays. At the Yangbajing Cosmic Ray Observatory, the PRISMA-16-YBJ array has been running for three years. We installed 16 so-called "sand cubes" with one cubic meter size, and compared the data obtained by placing PRISMA-16-YBJ on and away from the sand cubes to study the influence of target material, which is a major environmental factor, on the performance of the array. The origin of cosmic rays can be deciphered by accurately measuring the components and energy spectrum in the knee region. Study of Extensive air shower (EAS) relies on information provided by secondary high energy hadrons, which generate evaporation neutrons when they interact with matter in the environment. In the early 21st century, the electron–neutron detector (EN-detector) was developed at the Institute for Nuclear Research of the Russian Academy of Science (INR RAS). The PRImary Spectrum Measurement Array (PRISMA) project was introduced to enhance the array capabilities of cosmic ray composition separation and improve measurement accuracy. Within the framework of Chinese–Russian cooperation, at the Large High Altitude Air Shower Observatory (LHAASO) at Mt. Haizi (4400 m a.s.l.) in Daocheng, Sichuan province, China, a proposal was launched to establish the EN-Detector Array (ENDA) composed of 400 detectors in area of 10000 m to measure cosmic rays up to 300 PeV. In China, in 2018, a cluster, having 16 EN-detectors, was built at Tibet University (TU, 3700 m a.s.l.) in Lhasa, Tibet, to test specification of the array, and later it was moved to the Yangbajing (YBJ) Cosmic Ray Observatory (4300 m a.s.l.) in Tibet. Since 2019, another cluster so called ENDA-16 has started running at LHAASO, and here we give the first result of thermal neutron distribution. After gaining experience from these previous works, in April 2023, we successfully extended ENDA to ENDA-64 composed of 64 EN-detectors in area of 1000 m at LHAASO to measure cosmic rays from 400 TeV to 20 PeV. Here we describe installation and running status of ENDA-64 and present first results of thermal neutron distributions at different locations and hybrid detection of cosmic ray by using ENDA and LHAASO. Integration of the genetic and metabolic fingerprinting can provide a new approach to differentiate similar Traditional Chinese Medical (TCM) materials. Two leguminous plants, Mojia Huangqi and Menggu Huangqi, are important medical herbs and share great similarities in morphology, chemical constituent, and genomic DNA sequence. The taxonomy of Mojia Huangqi and Menggu Huangqi has been debated for more than 50 years and discrimination of TCM materials directly affects the pharmacological and clinical effects. AFLP based genetic fingerprinting and GC–TOF/MS-based metabolic fingerprinting were used to successfully discriminate the two species. The results of AFLP supported the opinion that Menggu Huangqi was a variant of Mojia Huangqi. The metabolic fingerprinting showed growth locations have greater impacts on the metabolite composition and quantity than the genotypes (cultivated versus wild) in Menggu Huangqi. The difference of some soluble sugars, fatty acids, proline, and polyamine reflected plant adaptation to different growth environments. Using multivariate and univariate statistical analysis, three AFLP markers and eight metabolites were identified as candidate DNA and metabolic markers to distinguish the two herb materials. The correlation network between AFLP markers and metabolites revealed a complex correlation network, which indicated the special metabolic pathways and the regulation networks of Huangqi. Abstract: The level fusion component of a pipeline defect assessment system is introduced. It is invalid when dealing with conflicted level probabilities. Several fusion methods are analyzed briefly and a new approach is proposed. It can dispose conflicted level probabilities efficiently and get reasonable results by weighted averaging the probabilities before combining them with D-S combination rule. The weights are calculated based on the reliabilities of the assessment models and judge matrixes. The efficiency of the new approach is validated by combining several groups of conflicted level probabilities obtained from an experimental system. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Photocatalytic degradation is one of the most promising emerging technologies for environmental pollution control. However, the preparation of efficient, low-cost photocatalysts still faces many challenges. TiO2 is a widely available and inexpensive photocatalyst material, but improving its catalytic degradation performance has posed a significant challenge due to its shortcomings, such as the easy recombination of its photogenerated electron–hole pairs and its difficulty in absorbing visible light. The construction of homogeneous heterojunctions is an effective means to enhance the photocatalytic performances of photocatalysts. In this study, a TiO2(B)/TiO2(A) homogeneous heterojunction composite photocatalyst (with B and A denoting bronze and anatase phases, respectively) was successfully constructed in situ. Although the construction of homogeneous heterojunctions did not improve the light absorption performance of the material, its photocatalytic degradation performance was substantially enhanced. This was due to the suppression of the recombination of photogenerated electron–hole pairs and the enhancement of the carrier mobility. The photocatalytic ability of the TiO2(B)/TiO2(A) homogeneous heterojunction composite photocatalyst was up to three times higher than that of raw TiO2 (pure anatase TiO2). [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

By accurate measurement of components and energy spectrum in the knee region, problem of origin of cosmic ray can be solved. In one extensive air shower (EAS), high energy hadrons, which constitute the EAS skeleton as G.T. Zatsepin called it, carry important information for multi-parameter correlation studies. The nuclear reaction between hadrons and matter in the surrounding environment produces a large number of evaporation neutrons, moderating to thermal neutrons. At the beginning of the 21th century, a new technology, electron–neutron detector (EN-detector) was designed at Institute for Nuclear Research of Russian Academy of Science (INR RAS), and the PRImary Spectrum Measurement Array (PRISMA) project was proposed to reinforce array capability of cosmic ray composition separation and then improve measurement accuracy of cosmic ray components and energy spectrum. Besides, EN-detectors can be used for continuous environmental thermal neutron flux monitoring and its variation study is needed not only for EAS experiment background estimation but also for geophysical applications (e.g., earthquakes, thunderstorms, radioactive aerosol control, etc.) and solar activity study (e.g., solar flares, Forbush effects, etc.). Under the Chinese–Russian cooperation, we put forward to build so called EN-Detector Array (ENDA) at high altitude in China. At YangBaJing Hybrid Array (YBJHA, 4300 m a.s.l.) and at Large High Altitude Air Shower Observatory (LHAASO, 4410 m a.s.l.), two clusters of ENDA were built individually and all have obtained coincident events with the local arrays. In the near future, we plan to extend ENDA to ENDA-64 with array area of 1000 m inside LHAASO to study the knee region of the light components (H and He). Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) has become the most common chronic liver disease, along with the prevalence of obesity and metabolic syndrome. Non-alcoholic fatty liver will progress to non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), NASH-related liver fibrosis and liver cirrhosis, and even hepatocellular carcinoma. Accurate assessment and early intervention are conducive to clinical burden reduction and disease control. Although being the "golden standard" for diagnosing NAFLD, the clinical application of liver biopsy is limited due to well-known limitations and significant complications. Serological testing, as a noninvasive method, has been well-recognized among researchers and clinicians. The understanding of the pros and cons and the application ranges of various methods and indexes is helpful for clinical applications, including providing more diagnosis approaches, improving diagnosis power, relieving pain of patients, and saving medical resources. Ground extensive air shower experiment is powerless for detecting cosmic ray particles of tens-GeV energy in the GRBs (Gamma Ray Burst) so far, because of its threshold energy. The experimental altitude needs to be increased in order to achieve more effective observation. In this study a water Cherenkov detector prototype based on the single-particle counting technology was constructed to detect GRBs at an altitude of 3,650 m. The preliminary test results show that the detector made in this study has stable performance and can detect cosmic rays. If it is placed at an altitude of approximately 5,200 m, the GRBs with tens-GeV of energy can hopefully be detected. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The measurement of thermal neutrons generated by cosmic ray extensive air showers (EAS) on the Earth's surface provides a new method for studying the composition and energy of cosmic rays with energy in the so-called "knee" region. Given the success of the PRISMA-YBJ array, a new type of thermal neutron detector array was installed at the high-altitude cosmic ray observatory in Yangbajing, Tibet. The array consists of 16 EN-detectors and utilizes a new type scintillator based on a compound alloy of ZnS(Ag) and B2O3 with natural boron.
